Without referencing any spoilers, In regards to the narrative of the comic book universe this story exists in, Alioth is one of the most powerful temporal beings in Marvel Comics. Even beings who control time and rule over different eras fear it. It serves as a barrier, preventing access to hidden truths beyond its domain. Whatever is beyond "the void" is unknown because Alioth devours anything that attempts to reach it. When something or someone is touched by Alioth, it doesn’t just destroy them, it erases them from existence, including entire timelines, dimensions, and realities. Alioth’s domain is outside of normal time. It exists in a realm of discarded timelines and forgotten histories, consuming anything that strays too far into its territory. In regards to the meta-narrative, related to comic book artists' propensity to retcon and change characters' backstories or entire histories of comic book universes, Alioth represents something more than just an in-universe force of destruction. It is, in many ways, a symbol of editorial resets-a manifestation of the way comic book continuity is constantly rewritten, erased, and reshaped over time. Just as Alioth consumes timelines, entire story arcs and character histories in comics are often discarded, rewritten, or pruned to make way for new creative directions. Alioth’s presence reinforces the idea that nothing in a comic book universe is truly permanent. Even seemingly established histories can be undone, much like how alternate realities and timelines in Marvel Comics are erased or rewritten. In this sense, Alioth is not just a cosmic being-it is a narrative device, a representation of the unseen forces that determine which stories remain part of continuity and which are left behind in the void of forgotten lore. This is exemplified by the perfect and fantastic Chris Evans in his reportrayal of Johnny Storm from the Fantastic Four in Deadpool Vs. Wolverine, but I think the entire concept has been laid bare pretty well by the time you've read this comment lmao. So the next time a beloved element is ignored in favor of something new, you can consider it another victim of Alioth's hunger.
