Pain management is now a huge issue with surgeons. Too many doctors are afraid to treat patients properly over them " losing" their license. Very sad how many people end up not only in serious pain but those that end up dying. A lot of people end up buying painkillers off the street or getting them from a friend then end up dying from fentanyl poisoning. This doctor is spitting facts.

Agreed. Everything has a good and bad side. However, that doesn't mean that people going through anal surgery need to suffer without adequate pain medication! It's absolutely necessary to control pain, but even more necessary is close and careful care from the surgeons doing these surgeries with very difficult recoveries!!! I'm a patient too and I want doctors/surgeons that will take care of me!!

@@Ltfhjkjggj - On the first day after surgery, I experienced no pain for 14 hours. However, I woke up the next day at 4 am with horrible pain. I immediately took pain medicine, and it took 15 minutes to kick in. Later, I took the next pain medication after 6 hours. The following pain episode occurred after 5 hours, prompting me to call the doctor. The doctor advised me to take pain medication every 5 hours instead of 6. The best way to manage the pain was sitting in a hot water bathtub every 4 hours, alongside pain medication, which was a significant help.
On the 9th day post-surgery, I completely stopped pain medication and started taking ibuprofen and Tylenol every 6-8 hours. Thankfully, the pain is now gone. I noticed that pain medicine caused difficulty in urination, with my pee stopping for 12 hours at one point. Fortunately, a call to the doctor suggested sitting in a bathtub with hot water, providing significant relief after 15 minutes and allowing my pee to flow normally. In conclusion, I believe the hemorrhoid surgery was worth it for a better, happier life. Thank you all for reading.
To minimize pain, fill your bathtub with 2 feet of hot water (up to your waist level while sitting inside) and sit there for 20 minutes. This provides significant relief from pain. During the first 5 days post-surgery, I sat in hot water every 2-3 hours.

I thought I had a internal hemorrhoids that when I went to the emergency the attending doctor made a cut to open the wound. I regret going to the emergency, the pain was horrible and gives me external hemorrhoid. I should have wait for it to subside. She prescribed an Ibuprofen for pain, did not help! It was suffering for two weeks! It was the most painful thing I ever experienced.
After that, I went to private proctologist who gave me a proper diagnosis. It was polyps and external hemorrhoids. I signed up for laser surgery. I had a fissurectomy. Had a sedation and local anesthesia. The surgery lasted for about 30 minutes, when I woke up, I can walk, I don't feel any pain. Took a cab going home. The next day I had a check up. He prescribed me for inflammation 1 pill for 3 days, half for another three days, and quarter for last three days.
It was great. I didn't take any pain killer. After one week, I feel great. It only bothers me after I BM, two weeks after it was healed 😊
So I'm happy! I guess i paid for comfort in private, 24hrs emergency contact to my procto after the surgery, they call for follow up how am after few days.. Cost me 2700€ but it's a wise choice!

TMI - but yeah RUN. Especially when you don’t have a BM for 6 days after drinking the prep, you need those pain meds for the first one. I had 4 days worth, I used the first 3 days and skipped the 4th &5th so I had something for the 6th day. I lived in the bathtub. Which they also fail to mention. Sitz is not enough as it gets too cold too fast. The hot water in the tub made the pain disappear. It was worse than kidney stones and 2 months later every movement burns because of bile salts. Oh and they don’t tell you that while it’s healing and the stitches are in place that side doesn’t relax so
If you forget your Metamucil, pray you aren’t going to pass out while going. Hope you enjoyed my Ted talk.

I plan to continue fasting for at least 3 more days and then switch to bone broth fast. I needed to lose some weight amyway, so allowing my body time to heal sounds much better than putting food through an open wound.

I had an anal fistula surgery July 5, 2023. The first 2.5 weeks was painful, more painful after a bowel movement! I was giving 20 oxy’s, I only took one every 6 hours, along with 1000 mg Tyenol (500 mg capsules). This combination worked extremely well for pain management! I had 9 pills left, as I decided to switch to Tylenol only after that point. My surgeon was a little weird, but after I scheduled a follow-up 2 weeks after, due to the amount of puss still occurring, he seemed to be in better spirits. Its healing nicely, its been a month now, still had drainage, but definitely had taper down as it starts to heal.

totally agree. i had a hemorrhoid banding. before the procedure i want to make sure i can get back to work and i ask them they said yes i can get back to work so i did my hemorrhoid banding. they didn’t educate of what will like after the procedure. i regret having the procedure afterwards. right away the feeling somewhat strange like you want to urinate but having difficulty urinating and also the feeling of passing stool. its like my butt is telling me that i have to go to the bathroom. 2nd day my hemorrhoids became worse its swollen and painful and having difficulty to pass stool. having frequent bowel movements which make it worse and painful to the point that its bleeding. its been my 6th day now after the procedure and I’m suffering from pain and discomfort. i keep calling them and asking for help no prescription drugs to at least give comfort fir my situation. they just told me if experiencing pain and bleeding go to the emergency. this is the reason i found your channel i keep on searching the internet to educate me on how to manage the pain and take care of my hemorrhoid. what diet i should i have etc.

On the other end of it it’s better to be in a little pain than to get hooked on pain killers. It’s an estimated 3% to 19% of people who take prescription pain medications develop an addiction to them. We have nearly 100,000 Americans dying from opioid addiction each year. It’s good to switch to over the counters sooner than treat opioids as a dependable savior. I personally know more than one person who had opioids destroy their life and it started with doctor prescriptions and not street drugs. Seeing someone die of street drugs according to statistics forgets the part of their story where years earlier they started liking opioids too much after surgery.
