I recently purchased an Exocet Stormtrooper (thought it looked badass) although I’m still waiting on it in the mail lol (I’m not in Cali btw I’m case you were wondering). I already own a regular Ultratech which was my first MT and I’ve been in love with it ever since I got it. It’s just not the most suitable for edc in my opinion because of how long it is and I find it somewhat challenging to put other important things in my pocket when it’s there. The knife bulges out quite a bit when I attempt to do so. I’ll basically only take it with me if mostly I’m doing some heavier duty work that requires me to cut shit around the house or my job (I carry it pretty often at my job bc it requires a bunch of cutting lol). ANYWAY I was torn between the mini Troodon and the Exocet for true everyday carry like at all times and I decided on the exocet because of how flat/skinny it is and the fact that I can put many other things in my pocket without it getting all cramped up even when it’s clipped to into my pocket. Super exited for it to come lmao
i have both knives (though with the dagger blade) and the exocet is easily my fav. it feels much more substantial than the mini troodon, it's also easier to deploy, the mini troodon offers not enough grip for bigger hands.
I wish they offered the exocet with a standard pocket clip instead of the money clip. I would prefer the wide, flat chasis of the exocet but have no interest in my pocket knife doubling as a money clip.
They are cheaper than the larger ones when comparing to current retail prices. The larger Troodons used to retail for $300 back in 2010 - 2015 but those prices have since increased to $355 to $400 now.
Most likely because the mini ones require specialized machining and sizing. The Cali legal knives are also made in limited runs compared to the regular size knives, so that is also a factor in why they cost nearly the same as a full-size Microtech. I'd say it's only worth it if you live in a state (Cali or otherwise), with knife restrictions and you REALLY want a OTF. I'm out of California and I have two Exocets and and 1 Microtech UTX-70 CA S/E. I think it was 110% worth it for these since you can't legally carry a full-size here. To my surprise, even California knife laws are more lax compared to many other places. Many states don't even let you carry these sub 2-inch OTF's, so I feel lucky despite California being bass ackwards regarding every other law.
I just don't understand the exocet. Who wants to show their money and credit cards to everyone around when they want to use a knife? And who wants to take out a knife every time they want to take out money? Too thick to be a money clip anyway, at that point might as well carry a wallet. The Mini Troodon makes a lot more sense. But to me, if they made a UTX-60 or whatever it would take to bring a 2 inch blade to the Ultratech line would fit in a jean 5th pocket and become their best selling model in CA. Mini Troodon is still an excellent choice. Hope they start making them with more color and blade options (and make enough of them).
Got one in merlot thought it would be worse but despite it's shape it's pretty ergonomic and I must say that the action is somehow smoother on the exocets than the ultratechs however they are both gems and worth the money in my opinion
What you don't understand is irrelevant just like you are irrelevant this series has already made Microtech $20M unlike you we are all glad they made it

I really hope they'll make the mini troodon with other blade shapes !!!
There should be an S/E and D/E option I'm sure
Another great review! When will you be getting these back in stock? I really the like Signature Series Damascus model.
I don't believe we are getting any damascus blades but are expecting more Mini Troodons this week in stonewash like in the video.
I can settle for Stonewash (and save some $ over the Damascus).
The Troodon Minis are really small, but cool!

Very accurate; the handle on the exocet is much easier to hold if you don't mind the wider body.

Why do these mini ones seem to cost the same as the larger ones?

That's what she said
Cuz....
Microtech

yeet!
Can someone tell me what the Exocet is for? I cannot see a practical use for this... I'll wait
Honestly, it’s a glorified box cutter. Still a cool novelty though.

They make a UTX-70 California edition

I must say though I never use the money clip it's a bit dumb I just shove it in my pocket
What you don't understand is irrelevant just like you are irrelevant this series has already made Microtech $20M unlike you we are all glad they made it
Exocet is a cash grab. Consumer: I need that one in my collection! Microtech: 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
