Great videos guys, firstly being a knife guy in the UK SUCKS! 😕can I also ask could you state when a knife is ambidextrous so many great knives don’t cater for lefties.
Microteck is a waste of money. I own 4(unfortunately) and while they are very nicely made, they have a special screw head and will not sell the tool. If you have a broken spring or need to do any maintenance, you have to send the knife to the company. And, by the way, they will not return your knive to you unless you are military or police. I live in a state that allows civilians to own and carry OTFs (AK) and Microteck will not return my knife if I send it to them for repair. Because of possible damage to the knife and inevitable spring failure I am afraid to carry or use these knives at all. I also own a Benchmade Infidel and it is a great knife. However, because of the button location and jimping, it very quickly rubs a hole in the pants pocket. I damaged two pairs of work jeans before I stopped carrying it. So far, my favorite EDC has been the Ravencrest Tactical. Although it is heavy (that's one of the things I like about it) it is very tough. And it came with a extra spring along with the tool to disassemble it(it's just a Torx). I also bought a couple of different style blades that I can put in it.

A wristwatch, pen, a torch and a knife has always been my everyday carry since I was 15 years old. I can't count how many times a good, sharp knife has saved my day. I grew up in the Philippines and there wasn't a lot of places to shop for beautiful knives like these. All i had was a couple balisongs from Batangas and a few pocket knives with cheap steels. Now that I'm in Canada, I was hoping to carry on my love for knives and to level up my collection. But then I found out about the stupid knife laws here. I found this amazing channel in search of a knife that's legal in Canada. I don't know if you can tell me what knives are considered 'legal' that can cross the border, cause every time I watch your videos, I'm dying to get my hands on the knives you feature. This has turned into a rant. Anyway, great contents guys. More power to you. Love Blade HQ!
bbnguyen92 Imagine a knife that is like the lower of a bolt action rifle. Pull the trigger and the blade goes out. Pull the bolt back and it recharges. It’d be cool but not practical
Seems like they are about the getting the knife out and ready to go. Looks liek they still function the same to deploy, so good for protection, but very inconvenient if this is the only knife you carry.

This is a knife a rich business man buys his boss for Christmas, that's about it. the annoying part of the design aside from 400 year old bamboo (wow so rare, bamboo!) is the fact that the entire advantage to an OTF is it can be double edged, if its single edged, it can be a side folder since the blade side is covered! at least put a saw blade on the back AMIRITE?

Indeed. Really really want a Microtech. Always as a kid I wanted a Benchmade but my tastes have refined. Also Microtech charges premium prices, not inflated pretentious ones. Should we really have to pay 500-1000 for a benchmade otf. If they want to sell gold plated knives with artisan engraving for hose priced that's fine by me. I respect it as a work of art as an artist/designer myself. But the pragmatic ones (the tactical class denoted to police/military utilitarian application like the Infidel costs an exorbitant amount) The infidel (coolest looking one) has the activating mechanism it a far sillier place. I imagine most would switch their grip after firing it so you can hold it like you would a Microtech from the start. Benchmade has a Phaeton model (highly borrowing from Microtech in design) that has the activator in the same place. It is twice the price, like exactly and yet Microtech is universally agreed to be the best when it comes to OTFs. Along with the fact their brand integrity in the court ofpublic opinion is unwavering from what I've seen. Can't find a vid dogging on Microtechs easily. Opposite is true for Benchmades, a single youtube search will yield plenty: those with stupid complaints and those with valid ones. I've never owned either but I've followed Benchmade for like a decade, finding them via my early teen obsession of butterfly knives, youtube clearly told me the Bechmade model 42 was king of the hill and it looked the part in how it flipped and the testimonies that followed with its durability and lifespane. Fairly certain it is the most beloved knife they ever made. Only one I'd spend half a grand on. Too bad I can't.
i have always and will always carry a lightning otf. as a mechanic there are a ton of times when i need a blade while one hand is busy, its cheap enough where i can buy 4 and not cry when i break a tip off or inevitably give one away to someone who thinks its just awesome. they are rugged and hold up well to abuse too. im not a knife addict like most of you guys, but this is one that i wont go without.
I carry a Ravencrest Tactical for the exact same reason! I like the I can replace the blade for cheap (picked up a half dozen during one of their big sales for $15 apiece!). I'll have to check out Lightning OTFs, never heard of them.
Hey man. The lightening is definitely not something I would buy (don’t like OTF in general) but if you found something you like and works that’s sick dude. Always great to hear about people’s blades that have served them well. Awesome reading your post.
I can't be the only person who is paranoid about OTF knives accidentally opening while in your pocket, can I? That's basically the only reason I haven't bought one yet.
They're designed so they don't fully extend and lock if they hit resistance when opening. Besides, they require a decent amount of force to open, especially double action.
Not many for that price point I would just go with a ravencrest for a little over $100 and it comes with a lifetime warranty or you can just get the spare parts yourself but if anything ever goes wrong literally nothing will make the warranty go away so you will have a knife for life that is a great build
honest to god yes you can for microtech at least, there are torture test videos of people using them like a nail and hammering them through a 2x4 and then pulling them out and they are just fine.
when they were talking about the Hawk and they said, "two," i thought for the only millisecond i've ever considered in my life, in regards to buying an expensive knife, "wow. okay, i might actually pay $200 for that one. i like that a lot!" then they said, "G." yeah, i'll stick w my $30 Lightning with the exact same basic parts. i'll cut, hammer out, and heat treat my own damn steel for 2-3 thousand dollars... idk what's costing that much... is the blade made of real kryptonite or something? can this knife cleave dragon's scale, like Erdrick's sword?
Thay should have had the Cobratec CTK-1 in medium as a good entry level OTF. I just picked one up and I'm not disappointed. Plenty of reviews to see for your self. My next one will be one that was not featured in this video. It's the Guardian Tactical Recon 40.
The AKC F-16 segment at the 9:00 mark... a collision of "all you need" vs. salesmen awkwardly struggle to save face whilst pushing a $300 knife. Zack keeping it real. :D
How dependable are OTF knives? Yes they look cool and tactical but do they work well being worked? Not talking about taking them out into the woods and beating on them but for every day use maybe in dirty conditions with dust etc
Thirty two hundred bucks and I got to recharge it that's like my Ferrari spider had to get out and f****** manually pull the top down... I bet those are flying off the shelf
The guys making the Hawke Deadlock would make mint if they made the knives in the Microtech and Benchmade price range. $2000 ??? No way. I can buy a real nice handgun or rifle for that.
Bought one a few months ago, it won't retract all the way if I hold it upside down, very sluggish. I know I can send it in and they will fix it. But for a 400 dollar knife, I was disappointed.
That god damned thing was single action!? I didn't watch the description after I heard the price! For $3,200 bucks that thing better wash my car and walk my dog!
I have one of the MicroTech Storm Trooper series and just picked up the Benchmade Infidel. The MicroTech has a heavier trigger and more snap while the Benchmade feels lighter. Both are razor sharp but of the two I prefer the Infidel as it feels better in my hand.
There isn't a spring for each direction, that wouldn't work because you'd have to have one spring able to over power the other in each direction. Obviously can't have that work both ways. There are two springs, but in parallel for added oomph. The way it works is there is a sliding frame that stretches the spring in whatever direction you want it to go and when it reaches a strong enough pull, it reaches and trips a lever to allow the blade to slide.
There is just one spring in the Ultratech, but you are correct in that the spring(s) is/are not opposing, as misstated in the video; "one in each direction." Actually, knife guys should know the difference. This is somewhat akin to an automobile expert stating that a Ford Focus has two engines, one to go forward and one for reverse. The D/A Microtech OTF's with the 'top' buttons (which is all of them, up to the new Dirac) have the spring that's suspended on a carrier and the carrier has a cam in front and in back. The spring has two hooks; there's a hook on the front and one on the back end. As the firing button slides the carrier, the spring tension increases while at the same time the cam on the carrier depresses a spring-loaded leaf lock in the knife's frame. There are two locks, one on the front at the top, and one on the rear at the bottom. When it's sufficiently depressed enough to clear the blade, the lock releases the blade, the blade is propelled by the pre-tensioned spring via one of the hooks, on either the front of the spring, or the one on the back (on the other end of the spring), depending on which direction the firing button is travelling. It's kind of like the catapult that launches aircraft off of an aircraft carrier.
I see your point but I guess on the other hand there is no metal on on any of those guns that is as high quality as some of your Bohler 390/690 and other particle steels.,
i heard from microtech, they will begin making a small batch of utx-70's in a few weeks. they just shipped out the new halo 6 to dealers this week! (I think they will also bring back the regular troodon later this year, i think, not confirmed yet).
Depends on how you use and hold it. If you are let's say an assassin and cut and stab people. You'd polly say OTF. But if you are a regular user and have more knifes than you need. Mostly for admiring and looking at them. Then OTT makes more sense.😙 just my 2€
wow just found your page , i love the otf's got a few old italian made ones but seems like these prices are really high . I would love that deadlock but cmon $2000 ? thats 4 Glocks , or one high end 1911 , or 2 decent ARs , compared to 1 knife .
You should invest into a nicer ish one at least. Lightings aren't that reliable. I never used my Lighting for hard use and it broke within about 4 months barely cut anything with it. Then I got a equivalent to lightning which is the Titan OTF. Its decent but also still cheap I've had it for about 4 months now and its still decent but hard to open with the button its very stiff still. For Christmas im investing into a Microtech Ultratech for myself its a big step up lol 30-50$ OTFs to a 309$ OTF but it'll be worth it.
I was thinking about getting an OTF knife for my job, opening boxes in a major U.S. retailer, but then I thought about how I'm sure on the first day of bringing one a customer or a manager or even a loud-mouth coworker might see it, and it would probably end up pretty badly.... As much as I would love a knife that I can effortlessly open and close in one hand while I hold a box in the other, I think the consequences would be pretty severe if/WHEN I get caught....
For $3200 I can walk around with a backpack full of guns lol

Hey man. The lightening is definitely not something I would buy (don’t like OTF in general) but if you found something you like and works that’s sick dude. Always great to hear about people’s blades that have served them well. Awesome reading your post.
lightning otf, hands down best bang for the buck. ive used mine HEAVILY for the past 3 years w/ no hiccups
Can you buy these on Amazon?
I can't be the only person who is paranoid about OTF knives accidentally opening while in your pocket, can I? That's basically the only reason I haven't bought one yet.
They're designed so they don't fully extend and lock if they hit resistance when opening. Besides, they require a decent amount of force to open, especially double action.
So.... what's the BEST double action, OTF knife for UNDER $50.00? Preferably with BLACK polymer handles.
Not many for that price point I would just go with a ravencrest for a little over $100 and it comes with a lifetime warranty or you can just get the spare parts yourself but if anything ever goes wrong literally nothing will make the warranty go away so you will have a knife for life that is a great build
5:48 That firing button looks like it was designed by a kid who plays minecraft.....
elias burgstaller yeah
elias burgstaller good warrenty though and great company
its actually very effective.
lol totally missed that, but you're right!
I wish this review answered questions that i have, like durability, could i stick it into some wood and it not break etc...
honest to god yes you can for microtech at least, there are torture test videos of people using them like a nail and hammering them through a 2x4 and then pulling them out and they are just fine.
They need to give the editor a raise!
when they were talking about the Hawk and they said, "two," i thought for the only millisecond i've ever considered in my life, in regards to buying an expensive knife, "wow. okay, i might actually pay $200 for that one. i like that a lot!" then they said, "G."
yeah, i'll stick w my $30 Lightning with the exact same basic parts. i'll cut, hammer out, and heat treat my own damn steel for 2-3 thousand dollars... idk what's costing that much... is the blade made of real kryptonite or something? can this knife cleave dragon's scale, like Erdrick's sword?
So a 3,500 dollar knife and it's a single action,WHY!!!!????!!!
vintage
@@str0680 "vintage"
"vintage" aka old junk that is handcrafted right when u order it aparently
@@joekerr4273 I'll never own one, especially when they have a double action ya know
Thay should have had the Cobratec CTK-1 in medium as a good entry level OTF. I just picked one up and I'm not disappointed. Plenty of reviews to see for your self. My next one will be one that was not featured in this video. It's the Guardian Tactical Recon 40.
None of them are any good, just really expensive letter openers with a spring, you will always be better off with a lightsaber i highly recommend it
Its settled... I'm buying an OTF with my tax return.
Squirrel's Survival did you buy one?
Don’t buy otf they are junk and fall of the track w heavy use, get a flipper or a chris reeves knife they are reliable and quick
Dont feel bad, I just bought 2 and had never spent more than 50 bucks on a knife up until now, utx 70 and utx85 on the way woo
If u didn't buy the Deadlock u own something inferior. The Deadlock is light years ahead of ANY other OTF period!
The AKC F-16 segment at the 9:00 mark... a collision of "all you need" vs. salesmen awkwardly struggle to save face whilst pushing a $300 knife. Zack keeping it real. :D
that halo v is hideous, not beautiful. just because it's obscenely overpriced, doesn't make it nice. don't be so easily swayed.
breathe and squeeze I know right it's bulky and square looking, and for that price hell no
Really, 3k and you have to manually reset it , oof
the halo theme caught me off guard lol. you said halo 5 and i was like "haha halo 5" and then the song came on and i thought that was in my head!
I dropped my akc-f16 2 times in the water and it still fires flawlessly after 2 years of carrying it, for 50$ it’s a solid, yet simple, knife
Damn, they said $40, you paid $50, I got mine for $60, amazing knife.
2K for the dead lock.....Omg. That halo knife was cool but on the price, is that real.
I love my infidel. Best letter opener ever 😂. Hope I never have to use it for more than that.
How dependable are OTF knives? Yes they look cool and tactical but do they work well being worked? Not talking about taking them out into the woods and beating on them but for every day use maybe in dirty conditions with dust etc
$2000 for a knife? No thanks, ill stick with my $40 s&w, thank you very much
I raise you a $10 balisong that I have rebuilt twice....
Ok, I concede....
My wife would be pissed if I spent almost an entire weeks pay on a knife.
I got four sawed off shotguns for $2k. One for my wife, me, my best friend, and my best friends wife (we all live in the same house, different floors)
I could buy a frickin 308 for that price
The infidel is one of the most outrageously priced knives ever
Bought one a few months ago, it won't retract all the way if I hold it upside down, very sluggish. I know I can send it in and they will fix it. But for a 400 dollar knife, I was disappointed.
Obviously, its a benchmade.
R Langer obviously
Great OTF discussion, quite informative. Def going to have to go with the Deadlock, but for two grand I think I'll have to buy a DSA SA 58 OSW rifle 😁
Microtech ultratech mechanical tech
Anyone have the f-16?
How wiggly is the blade?
Can you actually open boxes and stuff with it or is it more of novelty?
Thanks
I don’t know why there is a $3200 OTF it doesn’t even look good and it’s single action.
This video makes me sad knowing all of these are illegal in the UK
And did that reduce crime?
sweet home Alabama
Double-action OTFs do NOT use one spring to open and another spring to close. Who are these guys that they don't understand this?
I was literally searching for an OTF comparison video a couple days ago, it's like you guys read my freakin' mind!
My heart goes to lighting otf
If the steel was worth a damn I would have gotten 5 more.
ELITELAX23 They are some great budget knives for sure.
ELITELAX23 hi
Love my Lightning. Comes sharp as hell too
I see your point but I guess on the other hand there is no metal on on any of those guns that is as high quality as some of your Bohler 390/690 and other particle steels.,
Is it true or an urban legend that a good otf would go through one quarter inch plywood ??
"They feel like a $40 OTF" ...yes, they certainly do lol
I don’t understand how the indidels are almost 500 bucks and they use d2 steel? D2 comes on a 40 dollar boker knife.
Need a UTX-70 in my life
i heard from microtech, they will begin making a small batch of utx-70's in a few weeks.
they just shipped out the new halo 6 to dealers this week!
(I think they will also bring back the regular troodon later this year, i think, not confirmed yet).
I didn't know there were that many OTF knifes period...
Chance Rogers that’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard period...
SPIN & OUT ok?
Chance Rogers hey sry my lil bro watches these he thinks he knows everything
SPIN & OUT no problem. Hopefully he grows out of that lol. Could get him into real trouble someday by someone more ornery than me haha
Chance Rogers lol sry bout that
OTF means out the front, yet all these knives come out the top. Consider my mind blown.
@Joe Blackner I have no idea what that means. I assure you that I'm not the only one.
Depends on how you use and hold it. If you are let's say an assassin and cut and stab people. You'd polly say OTF. But if you are a regular user and have more knifes than you need. Mostly for admiring and looking at them. Then OTT makes more sense.😙 just my 2€
For $3,200 it better jump out of my pocket and cut whatever I need, by itself.
wow just found your page , i love the otf's got a few old italian made ones but seems like these prices are really high . I would love that deadlock but cmon $2000 ? thats 4 Glocks , or one high end 1911 , or 2 decent ARs , compared to 1 knife .
Yeah and it doesn't even mean it's going to be quality I just means it's going to have a bunch of expensive crap put in it for no reason
Or a really cheap car
3200 id rather buy a car+horrible look of the knife and single action? broo thats the worst thing ive ever seen
o.t.v.- out the van goh. double action ear cutting paint brush.
Akc f15.....$40...wow I could get on now...
I live in crack alley and they get too close
I think there would be lucrative opening in the remake of vintage OTF knives. Say from the 1980's etc.
12:45. Hit the wrong button and you will slice someone’s cigarette in half. 🤣😂🤣
PRANKED
When they pulled the Halo 5 out I was like “did your kid make that one?” And then they said the price. That’s just silly.
Its very good quality but its single action so not useful but a decoration
Love to own a good quality otf but I’ll just stick with my lighting 🤑
You should invest into a nicer ish one at least. Lightings aren't that reliable. I never used my Lighting for hard use and it broke within about 4 months barely cut anything with it. Then I got a equivalent to lightning which is the Titan OTF. Its decent but also still cheap I've had it for about 4 months now and its still decent but hard to open with the button its very stiff still. For Christmas im investing into a Microtech Ultratech for myself its a big step up lol 30-50$ OTFs to a 309$ OTF but it'll be worth it.
No one will watch this in 2030, knives will be banned by liberals and this video will be illegal😂😂😂
Who would want a single action OTF?
I was thinking about getting an OTF knife for my job, opening boxes in a major U.S. retailer, but then I thought about how I'm sure on the first day of bringing one a customer or a manager or even a loud-mouth coworker might see it, and it would probably end up pretty badly.... As much as I would love a knife that I can effortlessly open and close in one hand while I hold a box in the other, I think the consequences would be pretty severe if/WHEN I get caught....
*"LIGHTNING" OTF DOUBLE ACTION. $30 AND WORTH EVERY PENNY.*
Yeah, for the price 300$ those knives are no more than just expensive toys for men
