Dude! This video is exactly what i’ve been looking for; a aussie, 7 months in europe, living off of one bag. they only difference between me and you is i’ll still be a minor when i leave, i’m leaving in the first half of the year, and i’m an solo traveler haha! i’ve been looking at the osprey fairview (womens) 40L pack too so it’s so fulfilling to see someone else giving a tour of how they’re using it in exactly the same way! cheers mate.
Very Well done. We ( married couple 70s) have visited over 90 countries - and more to come - with a similar set up including using the Farpoint 40 and Osprey Daylite Plus. 8 kg in main and 3 kg in daypack. Since we want to have capability of not being noticeable in a 5 star location we confine ourselves to having black tops and pants and our walking shoes are all black. Easy to maintain clean and a classic look that goes anywhere. We do not look completely out of place anywhere. We are also big fans of merino wool and use that wherever possible. We also carry a. complete medical kit knowing it is inevitable to get sick i.e. stuff we are famikiar with in cold meds; ibuprofen; immodium; tums etc.
great video! i have been thinking about to ditch my suitcases and to go with a carry on bag. all these packing skills/advise you given in the video is useful!
Great video mate. I bought an Osprey Farpoint today from Paddy Pallin in Perth comparing to Porter 46 I wish the Farpoint had a front admin section and a nicer laptop sleeve with seperate sleeve for iPad. Cheers
Cheers, Don! Yeah it seems they’ve gone pretty minimal on the organisation of the bag. I’ve found this to be it’s best and worst feature… only having the main compartment, laptop sleeve and tiny top zip pocket means there’s nowhere to conveniently stow small items you want to get to easily. However, this means the main compartment is really spacious and I can fit more stuff with my own packing cubes. Bit of a trade off but works for me since I always carry my waist pack across my chest for smaller items. Paddy Pallin in Perth is a great store and I’m there often! Safe travels
Great video, just a tip from my husband travelling carry on, the Kmart microfibre undies are great for travelling :) I just bought a small case 38L and only 2kg, I am excited to use it :)
Thank you :) I’ve got some microfibres Uniqlo undies and I agree, microfibre is great for travelling. Good luck with your new case, 38L and 2kg sounds perfect for carry on
Loved the video, but how the heck do you manage with just four t-shirts? I sometimes have to use three per day and I have a separate one to sleep in. Do you do laundry every one or two days?
Love this bag. I have an older version from a few years ago. Glad to see they moved the laptop pocket to the back. In the older version it's in the front and doesn't provide protection. Something I would add to the list is a pair of earplugs for sleeping.
Having it at the back is a great call, not worried about damaging my laptop at all. Yes, definitely! I realised I needed them after the first night sleeping at a busy hostel
Good video! However, take into account that the Farpoint 40 is too big as a carry on in most, if not all, the European low cost airlines like Ryanair,Easyjet, etc. One of the problem s is that it has a rigid frame. Also notice that many airlines limit the weight of the pack and not only the size. Airlines are more strict in Europe than in the US, but ticket prices are much lower as well. Good look with the trip!
@@BeforeWeExpireWow that's good, because I have never been able to take my old farpoint 40 into Ryanair even half full :-( I mean, for free. Maybe the new model is smaller or looks smaller. I will give it a try.
@@TheZarkosan you definitely can’t take it as a personal item (under your seat) but I’ve had no issues with paying extra for an overhead cabin bag and bringing it on. Still better than checking it in!
No good on easy jet now they have lowered the sizes again for free carry on,you can pay but i like a free bag,i have now brought the osprey daylight travel 26l expandable to 32l
Beautiful! My only (totally not judgemental) thoughts are to get a wide mouth water bottle so you can clean it, and that you can downsize the number of clothing items in favour of wearing one outfit & storing a spare and then hitting the thrift shops when you need something new, also, a pair of minimalist sandals instead of flip flops to wear when your feet are aching at the end of the day but you want to go out to get food or stroll the town a bit (something with a back strap … waaaay more comfy, still compact/light). We use the Xero sandals. Have an amazing time! I backpacked Europe with my two little kids using a 40L pack (and they had little day packs). It made logistics so much easier not being weighed down by anything more.
Agreed! I’ve been on the hunt for a better wide mouth water bottle and also have found I could have brought 1 or 2 less tops. I’m still loving my flip flops but definitely can see the benefits of something with more support. That’s awesome that you were able to get by with a 40L and kids! Gives me ideas for the future :)
Great video. We travel a lot and practice much of what you recommended. The only suggestion I have is to replace your flip flops with the toe piece to ones with just the top strap. I took ones like you have and my partner took the no toe type and when it was cool out he could wear socks in his and I couldn’t. Lesson learned. And no we didn’t wear socks and flip flops in public. 😊
Thank you :) I’ve found that I can sort of loosen my socks so that I can wear them around the toe part, and the worst part is that I do wear them in public! haha
Excellent!! As a longtime hiker, this is just my style! I only add a couple of bras, hair ties and very minimal cosmetics. I notice this vid is 4 mo old and nothing since, but new here so wondering if you’ll be waiting to post after your trip is over?
It’s definitely the best way to go, the lighter the better! I’ve found it so hard to edit anything while travelling Europe, there’s so much to do in every place! I have kept up with recording things as I go so hopefully I’ll get something uploaded soon or when I get home in January
Thank you RUclips algorithm for bringing me here. I will copy and paste your set up. Thanks for the awesome video! You have just saved me time and money haha
I have been filming the entire trip but I haven’t had time to edit yet! Will be home in a month and will have plenty of time then. Currently on a train from Berlin to Munich and loving Germany :)
Great video and plenty of detail! My question is where can I find a waist pack this small? I just find it very convenient to be smaller and under cover!
thank you so much!! this has been super super helpful :) i'm heading off on my own trip in about a month! really looking forward to your future videos :)
Nice! 2 questions: 1. Can you use this as a habdbag for all airlines instead of a checkin bag? 2. Does it also have a space to put an extra pair of shoes in?
Just came across your video and found it very helpful. I checked your channel for videos about the trip itself but couldn’t find newer uploads since this one. Will you be posting them here or on another channel?
Thank you for sharing your traveling set up. I love that it can all fit into the Osprey. If you ever wanted to ditch the eye mask for a more multi-use piece of gear, I highly suggest a buff. It can be your eye mask, dust mask, sweat band, small towel, pillow cover, etc. Great video! Thank you for sharing.😊
I always find it very weird sounding when people say "my partner". It sounds detached, expendable, non-loving, even confusing because usually it's gay people using this word . Just say wife or girlfriend, fiancée etc. That said, great video.
I had to chrck in bag and wanted to carry on ended up in cdmx 14 days with no money given by airline ! Will try to travel lighter but from Uk need my meds ltop and the plugs are heavier! I had to leave equivalent of case of winter stuff behind as just needed extra items like really thick winter jacket puffa wasnt enough plus summer stuff tech..
Mate, great video thanks for sharing. Just to follow up below for the Blundstone 500s'...how have you found them in summer over there getting around? Looking forward to any EU update videos!
Thanks mate! Yeah the Blundstones have been great. They’re super comfy and work well in any condition which is really handy in Europe since the weather can vary so much. We’ve had days in Scotland where it’s started bright and sunny and then ended rainy and muddy, which is where I think a pair of sneakers wouldn’t hold up as well.
fantastic fucking video. Love the display of every category on the table, that made it very easy to follow along. I will be using this video as a guide, thank you sir.
Great video. Lots of cool stuff. Which waist pack do you use for your phone, wallet, and passport? It would be awesome to link to the products in your list.
Thank you! The waist pack was a gift and it has no branding on it unfortunately, so I'm not sure where its from. I will update the description to include links to all of the other gear. Cheers for the tip :)
Hello! thanks for the video. I leave for Italy for two weeks in two weeks... Can you give a bit of info on that daypack you showed at the end? I may need something like that.....
I'm 60 years old with 40 years of travel. I have 65 countries completed. I too have that same Osprey pack. I used it once for 11 months of travel. Just do laundry.
A very nice video. I think you could still take less. For example, you don’t need 6 underpants when 3 would do. Get used to washing out your undies in the sink nightly.
I love the Farpoint so far and would definitely choose it again. From what I’ve seen about the Sojourn Porter 46 - it looks like a Farpoint 40 with more packing compartments, thicker sidewalls for protection and a less supportive backpack frame. So I guess it really depends on your preference. I love the simplicity of the Farpoint 40 and the harness is unreal but you might find the porter more suited to you :)
Love this video! I am heading to Europe in a couple day and so much of my set up is inspired by this. Thanks a lot! Only thing I’ll say is don’t let the Americans get to you. They’re thongs not flip flops 😂
I'm 66 years old and love travelling with my Osprey 40litre Fairview (the women's equivalent of your Farpoint). With the women's version the harness is narrower and shorter to fit a smaller stature, and is the most comfortable pack I've ever carried. I wear my puffer jacket onto the plane, then shove it into a soft bag and use it as my travel pillow. It helps me sleep like a baby on flights.
Curious, I'm female, thin, 64, 5'6" with a short torso (17"), and thought that even the women's version of the bag might be too long for me. Is there enough adjustment possible? It looks comfy. I'm hard to fit. I currently wear a Goruck (only 18" long). But it's a heavy sucker. Great video!
@@seechangenyc280 Thank you! The latest Fairview and Farpoint bags have a lot of adjustment in them but I would definitely find a store with stock to try one on
@@seechangenyc280 I'm 5'1" with a long torso, but that probably makes us a similar torso length. My Fairview fits me just fine. The guy in the shop adjusted everything to fit me.
I see that you have a lot of experience with this type of backpacks, I would like to know if the FairView 40 can be adapted in the part of facing the backpack FARPOINT® | FAIRVIEW® TRAVEL DAYPACK (purchased separately) and so you can have a model similar to the backpack Osprey Fairview 55 Travel Pack - Women's tks for your help
with your Osprey backpack, did you manage to fly OK with RyanAir (or other budget airlines?). Because the backpack itself is 23cm in depth and the maximum is 20cm for most
got the atmos 50l wich is a bit more comfy and roomy my trick is to remove the top lid and put it with my daypack with computer and heavy stuff i also don't carry a jacket but windbreaker and merinos
Thanks for sharing! Great review and intro! May I ask if it is possible to fit into Ryanair / Easyjet's luggage check box? I have a Osprey Kestrel 38L, and the back hard support material is too long 55-60cm to fit in, and not foldable.
Aqwsome bag. So hard to find videos if oacking lists that weigh in the high 20lbs range. I cant seem to get my list below 30lbs and thinn im doing something wrong.
Thanks for the quick response mate. This might fit the bill. One shoe for wandering around cities, very occasionally in the bush, and then dusting off to wear out to a nice-ish place fro dinner.
Great video, thank you! Which particular Blundstone's are these if I may ask? Wondered if you remembered the exact series/number of them as they look the right balance of chunk/smart. Thanks!
Nice video but I think you might end up being suprised by handlugage. A lot of companies changed their rules, and it is allowed just 1 piece of luggage of around 7 or 8 kg. And needs to be put under your chair. Bigger items or small suitcases are charged
Is that your laptop under the packing cube at 11:06? Why is it not in the laptop compartment? This bag fits so much I was wondering if it could fit multiclimate trips like Peru for the hot amazon and cold mountains, seems like it can :D I wish the ID pocket on the flap that goes over the shoulder and waist strap was closeable, would be a perfect place for tha airtag. How come your laptop compartment has 2 lockable zips and mine that just arrived today has only 1 zip..
That’s just the laptop sleeve I have for when I take the laptop out and about, my laptop lives in the back compartment. Definitely can do multi-climate trips with ease! I agree, that would be a great place for the AirTag and hopefully they’ll do that in their next design. Not sure why yours only has 1, maybe it’s a slightly different model.. Cheers for the comment :)
Great list! Being from Europe and traveling here also for several months with not a lot in always struggling with how to bring warm winter boots (which jugging by the amount of your layers might be an issue for you as well). Looking forward to the after list. Also: try taking trains between bigger cities, e.g. Berlin, stop in Amsterdam, end in Paris. You will see a lot more from Europe by train!
Yeah hopefully my current boots will work but we might have to hire some in the really cold places. I agree trains have been an amazing way to see the European countrysides!
Great video! It’s really helpful since I am also planning to travel to Europe for a month! It would be really helpful to me if there is a female version minimalist packing list too!

I see that you have a lot of experience with this type of backpacks, I would like to know if the FairView 40 can be adapted in the part of facing the backpack FARPOINT® | FAIRVIEW® TRAVEL DAYPACK (purchased separately)
and so you can have a model similar to the backpack Osprey Fairview 55 Travel Pack - Women's tks for your help
I would add a pair of lightweight gloves.
Yes, definitely will need to add some when we get to the colder countries :)
Wow, nice setup!!
Thanks mate!
with your Osprey backpack, did you manage to fly OK with RyanAir (or other budget airlines?). Because the backpack itself is 23cm in depth and the maximum is 20cm for most
Hey, where is the 'waist pack' from? Great video!
Cheers! I’m not sure unfortunately, it’s just a generic one I found at home haha
My tiny travel essentials are
A hero clip carabiner so my bags aren’t getting dirty on the floor
Tini 2 ti flashlight
Titanium spork
Packable bag
Great list! I’ll have to steal a few of your ideas :)
he has both a daypack and a plastic (laundry) bag which he could also use for something else. Plus packing cubes which can be repurposed.
got the atmos 50l wich is a bit more comfy and roomy my trick is to remove the top lid and put it with my daypack with computer and heavy stuff i also don't carry a jacket but windbreaker and merinos
Excellent video!
Thank you!
Thanks for the video p. Very useful tips. Can I ask what brand are those boots? Thanks again.
Cheers! They are Blundstone 500s, very comfortable and durable Aussie boots
Thanks!
Thanks mate! They’re Blundstone #510
@@BeforeWeExpire Awesome, many thanks 👍
They should do a farpoint in a smaller 30l
Yeah definitely could get away with a smaller bag
Nice video but I think you might end up being suprised by handlugage. A lot of companies changed their rules, and it is allowed just 1 piece of luggage of around 7 or 8 kg. And needs to be put under your chair. Bigger items or small suitcases are charged
Yeah you are right they definitely have tightened up a lot! I’ll mostly be flying with Ryanair who have a good cabin bag allowance thankfully
I’ve got the same bag I don’t know how you fit so much
Packing cubes are your best friend
Thanks for such an informative video!
Cheers!
Nice video 4/4/2024. Would love a follow up
You should always have some moisturizer with you. Taking care of your skin with some moisturizer is the least you can do.
Very true, gotta stay moist
Thanks for the vid! do you have a link to the travel adapters and charger? thanks
Thanks for watching :) the travel adapters are generic ones and the charger is a Belkin BoostCharge Pro 4-Port GaN Charger 108W
What's the weight of the backpack full ?, please, that's the most important if your travelling light and minimal , for carry on 😊
I'd be hiding that second gear bag if I was walking through those budget flights
Haha, they are very strict!
I can’t ! I just can’t ! I’m not that frugal while traveling: I love souvenirs and gifts . Cheers all the way from Austin Texas . Claudia
Not buying souvenirs has been the hardest part for me! Howdy from Glasgow :)
Dude….nice packing job.
Thanks mate!
I really like bright color interior, helps see things, what exterior color is best to get the bright interior color ??
The bright interior was great. I think all Osprey bags have the bright interior
Do you still like that pack... after the trip?
Great video! It’s really helpful since I am also planning to travel to Europe for a month! It would be really helpful to me if there is a female version minimalist packing list too!
Thank you! My partner is also going to make a packing video so stay tuned for that :)
Remember your floss! 🎉🎉🎉
You sound like my dentist haha
