Working on a 1974 Dart with a 318, auto. Someone put a Summit 4v intake and Edelbrock carb, but okie rigged the cable setup, and no kickdown installed. This video is amazing for giving me ideas to fix it without having to source hard to find, and expensive parts, thank you!
I think you just saved my 76 cordoba thanks, I change the moter and transmission and I also disassembled the moter to clean it and change rod bearings and such. Who knew the linkage would be what stumped me
Answered my problem. 81 RC with 360. Took off the old wore out carb and threw on a older Holley 600. Didn’t want to pay for fancy Lokar cables so glad I found your page and will be following.
You the MAN! I'm going to a 4 barra on my 318 D150, and this helps tremendously! My goal is to spend the least amount possible on it to try and get it into the 13's at high altitude.
Very informative thanx, so many car forum gurus say this can't be done easily. Stating that using 2bbl kickdown linkage on a 4 bbl application requires complex fabrication, so yall just better buy Lokar cable kits. I'm not saying those kits may not be very good too. But this conversion don't look to difficult from where I'm sitting...lol
Thanks for watching! Yes, I've done this more than I care to remember.. LOL. Common sense and make sure nothing sticks or binds and it works flawlessly. Even now both of my Duster and our Drag Truck are using the 2bbl linkage on 4bbls.
I did a four barrel intake and edelbrock carb on my 318, the kick down linkage bracket doesn’t even come close to being activated by the throttle, can I just make another one and drill two holes one on each end at the appropriate length to make it work? Or does it have to be able to slide? I can do what you did with the bolts if needed
You can try just drilling two holes, but you'll want some form of adjustment I'd think. Main thing is that it has ZERO chance of pinning the throttle wide open. Other than that, I'm all about creating and making it work !
What I figured I’d do was make the holes just big enough that there is a little play to hopefully avoid sticking throttle, I just didn’t know if it had to be able to slide back-and-forth but I can’t see a reason myself why my idea won’t work, I’ll give it a shot and see how it turns out, I love being creative, it’s helped me a lot
Not as much stuff spinning. I gutted my 87 Plymouth 318 from the AC, Air pump, hoses, all that stuff, condensers and what not and it runs smoother, quieter and better pull than having to run all those accessories.
@318willrun Thank you, the reason I ask is that I have a 225 slant 6 that I want to paint back to its original blue color, was your spray can high temperature?
@@318willrun It can really be a bitch and bigger yet if you have to eliminater the EGR and put the delete plate on for a 1986 Dodge w250 what a nightmare finding the right stuff or have to make.
@@raymondromero4558 It is all very very sad. I see Elderbrack has a chines knock off really cheap. I wonder if it is the same as we got. I might give it a try for me 1970 Chevy 350 pickup. Of course that will not be until the summer as I am in Alaska and no garage.LOL
OR you can buy all the RIGHT parts. and they will BOLT right on. and TOSS the holley carb and use a carter carb. you cobbled up the slot. i can see you have NO idea what that slot is for.

I've done this many times I like how it becomes an art form just coming up with work arounds.... great video!

Did you end up doing this? How did it work?
I did the same thing on my 1976 Dodge D100 5.2L , I just bent the bracket with a crescent wrench works really good.

Thanks! I hope you reach your goal!
this is exactly what I'm trying to do next week lol ill be watching this very close and having it on my iPad next to me while I do my swap
Great vid, exactly the info I was searching for. Way to get er done bud..
Never thought to put an extra bolt between the kickdown 😂. I’ll do this tomorrow for sure!
The proper bracket is available through classic industries cheap. It will look more “finished”

I guess complex fabrication is a stud with a bunch of nuts on it if this is complex for someone I don't think they should be working on cars
Ive got a 70s f body it ant got the screw style turnbuckle on the kick down ant sure how to adjust it now I'm just ust to turning it and ur done
some move at the carburetor, some at the pivot by the back of the intake, some by the linkage underneath. But they always adjust.
Worked for the spacer
Hey there, I'm a member on A bodies also. I will be running a thermoquad with two barrel linkage. Does this apply to the wider thermoquad?
yes, I've done it. Just look and be a little bit creative and you'll be ok.
@@318willrun thanks a bunch man. Truly

What's the bolt on the kickdown rod do .thanks
pushes the kickdown all the way back. Not enough threads to lengthen it to what I needed, so the bolt eats up the slack.
Motor cycle chain link
Do you have to adjust kick down cable after thank you in advance ps I have a Edelbrock carb
yes, the kickdown linkage will have to be adjusted after the carb swap
If you have a smog 318 and take the smog off why is it so much qwiet now?

I know this has nothing to do with the video but, What is the paint is that on there?
Not sure I understand what you are asking ?
@318willrun no worries, just wondering about the blue paint on the block
