Thanks for this man, i will definitely be following and watching more videos. Ive been trying to land a job as a salesman at a dealership for years but never quite sold myself to the hiring manager. Ive had quite a few job's as a mechanic and even sold cars on my own for a while. Ive tried working on myself and my social skills, changed up my appearance dressing much more professional, started wearing watches as every hiring manager ive met at dealerships does and much more. Im working super hard to get into a dealership at the moment because im between jobs and dont want to go back to my old skills / jobs but want to start a new career in this. I will be going dealer to dealer in the next few days with resumes hopefully it works out this time around.

I got the job!! Used your questions and I can tell management was very impressed and intrigued. I was informed they had never hired a car salesman that didn't already have experience in the industry, I was the first and they hired me the same day also!

Make sure to get the interviewer(s) business card to know the correct spelling of their name, phone extension and email address. I know this sounds old fashion, but an interview thank you letter being mailed right away is never a bad idea. 🙂

How was it
This is a great video! Just had my interview at a Toyota dealership. The manager seemed impressed especially with the final questions! He said he would start making calls next week & that I will be informed of a 2nd interview which won’t be with him but someone else. What can I expect from the 2nd interview??

I had an interview today and at the end when the hiring manager asked if I had any questions I used what you said and he said “wow in my 15 years in this position I’ve never had anyone ask that before”. Thank you for this I am 99 percent sure I got the job !!!!

Seriously looking into a career change after being impacted by layoffs in the tech sector a few months ago. This video series has been extremely helpful so far!
Question: I know compensation plans vary by country/province/dealership/etc. But, would you consider making a video that digs into things like "minis" and "spiffs", what they mean, how they can potentially factor into a salesman's total compensation (and how they might approach a sales strategy from month to month). Similarly, I think for true newbies (like myself), it'd be great to get a better sense of how to 'judge' dealers' compensation plans when deciding who to apply to or work with. (for example, maybe there's a few red flags that one should look out for when evaluating compensation plans. What would those be?)
I can certainly do that for you Grand Moff but have better pay plans then the empire
I have followed this step by step including at your dealership itself. (Everyone in that building treated me like an all-star) I have had many interviews and have been told I am amazing and that they would hire me if only I had experience. sadly, this has happened to me five different times. But mostly I just get ignored.

I just wanted to say thank you! I had two interviews this week and didn't perform well on the first, so I came here to prepare for the second. I followed your tips and the Sales Manager told me "I dont see why we wouldn't hire you." Needless to say, I think I got it and its the dealer who I wanted to work for. I'm happy that I went to the first interview at the place I wasn't as excited to work for though, I feel that it, along with what you had to say, helped me be better prepared for the second interview.

If got into car sales they would love me as my customers really kind person help them get into a new car even explain everything need before buying a new car. I'm sure would love my job unless whoever dealer work would be stressful know my first time working might be lost but get better.

Hey this varies as all dealerships are different. I would stick to one that is a franchise with a manufacturer vs a private used car deal. Be sure to read the dealership reviews and see how they respond to them. This should give you an idea of their priorities
How common are second or even third interviews? I have a third interview scheduled at Ford for Monday and everyone I talk to says this is unheard of.

Iam considering on leaving the Security industry and becoming a car salesman. The catch is iam turnig 54 in November. I would say my strenghts is my maturity and customer service skills. I worked the Red Carpet at the Toronto International Film Festival for 5 years. 3 famous billionairs: Galen Weston and Ted Rogers and the man who brought the Trump Tower to Toronto Alex Shnaider. @@carsunlocked At the final round they said we will contact u within 1 or 2 days, but no reply it’s been more than a week, he msged them but got no response.

If you worked at another car sales job for a short period of time , they probably will ask you why you left.
