Things you need to be a car salesman; a great people person; an unbelievable work ethic and hustle; the will to keep pushing and selling no matter how many cars you have sold. I will never be satisfied with a number, not 30, not 40, not 100 car sold per month I will never be satisfied, always pushing more out! Also need to be a very smooth charismatic person. Do this; he will make $10,000 and more per month
that's true if you're selling regular cars. If you're in the luxury car business, less work, but more time spent with the same client, more commissions, and a crap load of extra cash with accessories. Your clients become friends basically, unlike with regular cars. With luxury cars you do activities with your clients, like rides with hotels and dinners, etc. Way more fun.
I'm terrible at sales, as well as any form of social interaction in general. That said, I've realized that sales is a massive part of overall success in every aspect of life. I am an aspiring entrepreneur, and need money in order to pursue my plan, so my goal is much larger than simply working a job in sales. As much as I will hate it, I absolutely have to improve myself, especially regarding my ability to sell something. I'm stepping out of my comfort zone that I have otherwise stayed inside of for the last five years. Wish me luck.
Reading your post I wouldent assume you weren't a people person. You type as if you're personable. Not overly prideful, but knowing you can do it. I'd say go for it

I feel like I'm good with people I've sold roofs and remodeling work before and did very well. I'm just afraid of not making it selling cars and being left out in the cold. I think I just need to learn more before I make a leap
I’m from the UK, going into used car sales next month, two of my good friends own the company and offered me a sales role. Your videos have helped me get some knowledge together before my first day - thank you
I’m trying to get into the automotive industry because my sister in law is a service advisor for a Hyundai dealership and she said it’s a very good work environment, just recently applied to a dealership near me and did my background check, wish me luck
I'm just going to join the biggest car company in the United Kingdom and came across your video. I have career based on sales but it was production based sales although I view myself as a good sales professional I do appreciate honest opinions such as yours. Thank you for sharing the truth about what I am about to encounter. I do have a family that I do want to spend as much time as I can with but I also need to provide for them so hopefully I can maintain a good balance. Once again thanks for the honest opinions.
I am with the luxury car sales, which is interesting, a lot of things are opposites compared to regular cars. For instance, when you sell luxury cars, you DO NOT want to tell everyone about it and never brag about it, because the people that can afford it will think you're pathetic. Best is to let them find out, by selectively and respectfully, lead a conversation, to a point where eventually you'll be asked about what it is you do, and only then, you vaguely answer, so let them keep fishing, and suddenly if you mention your brand, you suddenly got them hooked and a lot of attention. Also, with luxury cars you don't need to sell as many at all, and more importantly, you make a crap ton of cash with accessories. I mean, first of all people can easily afford extras, they want to have a unique experience and that's another good one. True about Saturdays, I am not a people person (the reason why luxury cars sales is fantastic!, less people !), so I love taking Mondays off when car sales is pretty much non-existent. I hate Saturdays, too many people everywhere. Also, regular car salesmen mostly bad luxury sales persons because their sales pitch is imprinted into them, luxury car clients are different. They don't pretend to be smarter, richer and better than you, they don't even think of that, so you won't need to kiss-ass at all, there's mutual respect right there since they already know they're richer (generally speaking), and what they want is a new unique toy and your job is to feed them what they want to hear because they're in there most of the time because they want to buy a new toy ! Also, the 30-50 calls a day is reduced to like 10-15 tops ! Your clients basically become your friends with luxury cars, so they keep coming back, do random visits, it is amazing because you also do car expeditions with them, like small tours, with fine dining, music, and so on, you bond with your clients. Respectfully, I could never even think of selling Toyotas etc, great cars (I drive one myself), but I can't deal with clients that think I am some lowlife and all they care about is the cheapest price possible. I take my hat off to you all that can handle those and especially, omg, extra hats off to all second hand junker car dealers, good lord, you guys should be able to retire with 50 years of age with full pension. Also, with luxury cars no head butting with co-workers. Trained receptionists assign clients to you often, a big numbers of clients are returning customers and their friends, recommended by buyers, and so forth, people will approach you way more without you even knowing who they are until they let you know.
@@carsunlocked Personally, from your videos you'd make a good luxury salesperson for sure, if you ever have the chance to get into it I highly recommend it. It is, definitely, less work, which is a big pro. However, you have to be more than just a "salesguy", my clients have my personal phone-number, for instance, I have dual-citizen ship and when I go to my home country, I ask my client-friends if they need me to get them something (I mean, they could easily order it, but you get what I mean). Our clients basically when they are bored at times come to our showroom just to sit down, talk, have some coffee, or even compete with the Video-Gaming arcades we set up, haha (omg, they love that!). The best is, they talk to you with respect, they are looking for a unique car, not who offers them the cheapest possible prices, which is less time waste for you, more motivational but again, you're also the first they call if they're not happy with something, and not the maintenance department, hah, but personally, I like that interaction! It is not uncommon for you to go help them (in extreme rare occasions) tow a car on a Sunday (coordinate it for them), get to the dealership same day and give them a replacement, until you get things figured out, and figured out fast I might add, they do have a limit to patience in terms of if they are being ignored.

I have 4 going onto 5 years of dealership experience but in service department. I’ve always wanted to go into sales. Giving myself until the end of today to apply and your video helped with what I should expect and what I need to know for the job. Appreciate it 100%!
I was in service. It's very fun if you work sales from the service in same dealership as you already have customer base and volume and have other advisors give you referrals. Also it helps because you can go to finance and insurance selling warranties and other products. I haven't had much luck as I was an advisor at other brands and dealers but the organization and productivity of a service advisor can be very good to use as a car salesman.
I’ve been in the service department at a dealership for about a year and a half and about to start my sales job tomorrow, can’t wait to see how it goes
Seeing this video after I got offered a job at a Volkswagen dealer. They received 7 cars yesterday and by the middle of the day they were already sold. It’s crazy
Im 22 years old, will be 23 in April. Been really thinking about moving to sales. I’ve been working for O’Reilly Auto Parts going on 4 years on November. Hey guys, I didn’t realize I had so many replies. I’m actually working at a GMC/Buick/Chevrolet/Cadillac dealership now. I currently wholesale parts, and 100% commissioned based. I’m actually not a car salesman, but getting into the dealership world is a big leap and I 100% recommend it if you can. Not all dealerships are going to be the same, but finding that right one might be the kicker, but I promise once your in a good space, the dealership world is definitely a big step and the way to go financially. There are so many open doors, rather that be in sales or service. It has been one of my best life decisions yet. And again I highly, highly recommend it. I get to talk to salesman/woman all day and help there customers with accessories or car part needs, and getting to learn service part of things by working beside awesome service writers. Again I just turned 24yr old this year. And I’m super excited to see what’s next. If you are willing to put in the work and time to learn. I believe anyone can do it. I believe in everyone reading this right now and is one the border to making that next life leap. Just do it, don’t wait. You got this!!! Be used to being comfortable in the most uncomfortable. One year later and i can say I’m probably the happiest I have ever been. Im a father to a 4 year old daughter and “work in progress” Husband.
I lost my business due to Covid and have been running around since trying all kinds of things. Sadly, this has costed me a couple of extra physical moves, lots of undue stress and about 35K in losses in the process. I even went and got a CDL license but driving is just too boring for me. At sixty years old, none of this is any fun. Next up: Investigating the car/truck sales option. I put this off for a long time due to the negative stigma and because I just assume most dealerships are crooked to one extent or another (despite their oft claims of integrity). I know I can do this, I just want to be with the right people and place to do it. I'm meeting up with my 1st dealership soon and I'm going to be very blunt about my concerns and intentions with them. Hopefully this will weed out the places where I won't fit it and help me find the place where I will. Thanks for the information. I'lll watch a few more videos from you. If they are as helpful as this one that should help prepare me for much of what I'll face if I do take the long term plunge into car sales.
I'm a 19 yr old car guy who has nothing else to do and has worked at a car wash for the past 2 and a half years working everything from interior cleaning to pre prep before it goes through the wash as well as a cashier and always been pushed by the wash to sell the higher end washes and speak on the phone with people. I've always been good at customer service and always loved cars so i'm working on getting a salesman job to start a career and become an adult I can be proud of.
Thanks bro! I'm looking to transition from retail to working as a car salesman. Very informative video which gives me a solid perspective on what to expect. Subbed!
you the man good luck let me know how I can assist you if you have any questions while you make your transition. I am doing more training videos as we speak! happy selling Logan
Hey man I don’t normally comment but thanks for the pep talk, I’m heavily on the fence of becoming a car salesman, I’ve worked at Americas for 4 years and it’s taught me how to work hard and honestly, and I like a challenge, hopefully I can get in and learn many new things, great video btw
Great and informative video! Yes! I’ve made my career in the sales industry by building relationships, marketing myself/my products, and working hard, just like you said. This would be a great video for younger folks (high school/college) to see so they learn how to hustle and work hard!👍👍. Plus you could be a model, they should pay you extra to be in their ads!!👍👍😀👀
I’m 17 years old. This is something I’m looking into because I love cars. I’m more into trucks but you know what I’m saying. I think this is a career I’d enjoy, and not be miserable in. I have taught myself so much from scratch about cars. And I have the discipline and drive to get long hours in and sell cars. This is the first vid I watched from you, and I’m gonna check out the rest of ur channel. Alreayd subscribed. I’m hoping if I start looking into this, learning, and preparing now while I’m going into my senior year of highschool, I can become a successful car salesman. Or salesperson wtver.
I just got a part time sales job at carmax. My end all be all goal is to move to mercedes/audi/bmw though. I think i’ll see how this pans out if i like it, use what i learn and just show up and pitch myself to one of the gm’s at those other dealers
Ive been in the Army for half a decade, ive been looking into sales and I think skills the Army taught me would be very helpful. Im confident, stay calm under stress, used to crappy hours, im fit, and ive learned how to make friends with pretty much anyone. Plus, I was stationed in Germany and fell in love with BMWs ever since, and the end-goal would be to sell BMWs. Thanks for the tips!
Chris, what do you think of the future of the automotive industry and car dealerships in general? Is the industry really in threat of dying? Or will automotive sales jobs continue to flourish?
Been really putting thought into this industry its something I saw myself in for the long run but what’s the formula? Your vid was all the info I needed thank you sir!👊🏼
That’s creepy This video basically answered every question that’s bouncing round in my head I have a background in phone sales I’m going for an interview in a Nissan dealership Don’t know that much about cars This was so beneficial Thanks so much!
It's a very good job if you know what to do, but also it varies from dealership to dealership. Structure, pay plan, demographics, brand, management and other factors make a big difference. I worked in 3 dealerships, the first one was horrible, managers with no integrity, dishonest sales people and brand that only attract the worse customers, I stayed for 8 months and barely made any money. The second dealership had excellent structure, training, professionalism, integrity, excellent reputation with the community, pay plan was ok but due to low margin and high volume you couldn't make enough money, just reasonable but not great. My third and last dealership is family owned and it was great for 10 years, excellent pay plan, good honest owners, took great care of its employees and I made great money averaging 18 to 22 cars per month, 3 years ago another company took over and fortunately they didn't change too much, just a few perks we had they got rid of but kept a similar pay plan so my income didn't get affected as much. Car business is very different depending on what dealership and brand you work.
thanks so much for watching great insight from someone with a lot of experience. And yes the management and dealership plays a big role in your success
im 18, i got an oppurtinity at honda with a family member and I feel like i can really thrive in this environment because i really love cars and i feel like if I can learn the numbers part of selling cars and being more comfortable talking to people, I think i can do pretty well. any more tips i should take in if you have any? thank you on such a informative video!
Can you do a video about time management? Just started as a car salesman and can't seem to even have time to go to the gym and even eat properly and on time. Thanks
Really thinking about getting into car sales myself. I actually work for a car manufacturer right now, but I am wanting to be a closer to family at this point. I already work pretty demanding hours as is, so that’s no big deal. I have had retail experience before, so I feel like I know how to talk to people, at the very least I’m polite, friendly, and honest (at least so I think), but kind of afraid to make that jump.
@@curtiserecacho1401 moved closer to family, still at the manufacturer job, it’s at toyota. I did apply for dealerships but never got a response. Once my wife finishes school I might try for something different
thanks my friend. I guess it depends on the reputation of the pre owned dealership. Often the brand of a franchise ads credibility, loyalty and trust from the consumer. Most pre owned dealers need time to build this reputation and if not done correctly they can establish a negative reputation to the public
Do you have a video of how your phone call process works, what do you say, how do you even know who to call? Is it like telemarketing or something? I'm brand new to this and I'm considering doing it. I’m 19 fresh out of high school. I have a little sales experience, but nothing with cars. I just got the job. Need to come back and sign some papers first
How do you decide who to call when making cold calls? How do you get your leads? Do you read off of a phone book? I’m trying to absorb as much knowledge as I possibly can . Thanks
hey my friend typically your dealership will have acrm system that can provide a list of people to call here is another video going into detail about it ruclips.net/video/lejDcTZqOdc/видео.html
Always look for a company that thinks and take care of their employees..Working crazy hours is just going to burn you out..Stay away from those dealers..There are dealerships that respect the time of the employees..You can always make more money ..You can't buy time

One year later and i can say I’m probably the happiest I have ever been. Im a father to a 4 year old daughter and “work in progress” Husband.
As a guy also in car sales this video breaks it down well. Cheers.
you the man good luck selling
No way!!! Chris literally sold me my first car back in the day. Got me a premium deal and really looked out for me lol 🙏🏾
heyyy feel free to pop in and say hi brother
If they are as helpful as this one that should help prepare me for much of what I'll face if I do take the long term plunge into car sales.
hey glad this video was helpful to you!
Great advice! Basically throwing all my pervious sales experience away and relearn everything.
Thanks so much don't hesitate to watch my sales training playlist
I'm a 19 yr old car guy who has nothing else to do and has worked at a car wash for the past 2 and a half years working everything from interior cleaning to pre prep before it goes through the wash as well as a cashier and always been pushed by the wash to sell the higher end washes and speak on the phone with people. I've always been good at customer service and always loved cars so i'm working on getting a salesman job to start a career and become an adult I can be proud of.
get er done my friend!
Was washing cars at a dealership, then being a porter, then a mechanic. Got the opportunity to start selling cars last month. I’m wishing for the best

Great and informative video! Yes! I’ve made my career in the sales industry by building relationships, marketing myself/my products, and working hard, just like you said. This would be a great video for younger folks (high school/college) to see so they learn how to hustle and work hard!👍👍. Plus you could be a model, they should pay you extra to be in their ads!!👍👍😀👀

hey glad I could help you my friend

Well everyone will always need cars. I dont aee the job going anywhere in the next 15 years. The role just might change a bit

How’s it going?
Awesome ! I have an Interview this Friday for GMC hopefully I nail it
how did it go ?
I also started selling phone! Now I’m looking for an auto sales job!!

Atta boy your customer service will come in handy
Really thinking about getting into car sales myself. I actually work for a car manufacturer right now, but I am wanting to be a closer to family at this point. I already work pretty demanding hours as is, so that’s no big deal. I have had retail experience before, so I feel like I know how to talk to people, at the very least I’m polite, friendly, and honest (at least so I think), but kind of afraid to make that jump.
hey don't be scare my friend you might just love the business
How you doing now? Are you in sales?
@@curtiserecacho1401 moved closer to family, still at the manufacturer job, it’s at toyota. I did apply for dealerships but never got a response. Once my wife finishes school I might try for something different

@@carsunlocked I watched it before my exam and I passed with 93%
@@carsunlocked Could you please suggest if used car dealerships are better than franchise dealerships?
thanks my friend. I guess it depends on the reputation of the pre owned dealership. Often the brand of a franchise ads credibility, loyalty and trust from the consumer. Most pre owned dealers need time to build this reputation and if not done correctly they can establish a negative reputation to the public
@@carsunlocked Thanks for the reply❤️

Always look for a company that thinks and take care of their employees..Working crazy hours is just going to burn you out..Stay away from those dealers..There are dealerships that respect the time of the employees..You can always make more money ..You can't buy time
thats a great way to look at it thanks for commenting

What concerns me more is the scheduling, i go to alot of concerts as my personal life enjoyment, you think if i mention this to my future managers letting them know in advanced if i can leave a little earlier to attend my events
would not recommend that during the interview process. Concerts are not the dealerships priority
Nailed it. Great video man
