I had laparoscopic umbilical hernia repair last week. I was glad they went that route, because once they were inside they were able to see another hernia and was able to fix that as well. I don’t think they would’ve been able to find that second one if it was one w/ an open surgery.

Hello Doctor, I went with umbilical hernia open surgery. After I have come home, I can see some discharge where stitches are done. I went back to the doctor and he said since I’m obese discharge is due to fat melting and coming out as there is possibility it didn’t come out completely from the suction pipe which was placed before. He opened one stitch so it will come out and asked every two days to come for dressing and he said it will heal itself. Is it right? Please confirm.

So with the open approach LMA can be used since being paralyzed isn't required, is that right? Also, wouldn't chance of being unable to urinate afterward would be less if not paralyzed for surgery?

If you have time for taking rest go for open
      Or else laparoscopic
Recently I have done in open

I had my inguinal hernia repaired about a year ago. after .... Yes 9 months! A bulge appeared next to the old one! Doctor says surgery not performed correct. So now need Recurrence surgery. Recurrence hernia repair is more complex that normal hernia OP! Because of scarring, it cannot be repaired original area. Surgery has to be done laparoscopic. Also, under general anesthesia. whereas before spinal injection. because I am 82 years old, I had many tests. all was clear except I was told I am "High risk blood clots" so prescribed blood thinner medication for 3 months. Hernia's can be dangerous if not treated! If it traps tissue in the intestines, and blocks of blood supply.... your a goner!
