Age 36 . Electively opted for a bilateral inguinal hernia surgery done 3 days ago by the laparoscopic mesh repair TEP method. Right side 2cm and left side was 1.8 cm. Things I considered and asked before the surgery: 1. Must definitely opt a good surgeon with good years of experience doing laparoscopic surgeries. 2. Ask what quality of mesh is being used, recurrence rates and complications associated with it. 3. Ask what experiences has the doctor had with other patients. 4. What experience does the doctor have dealing with complications from the mesh? My recovery process till now: At Hospital -Day- 0 (night after the surgery) : Since it was performed under general anesthesia , it sort of wears off in a couple of hours and the pain kicks in. Pain was bearable but I couldn't get any sleep the whole night, I was not able to lie on my left side which is my common sleeping position. At Hospital- Day-1 : Pain had subsided slightly. They did give me pain killers so it wasn't much to go through. Could get out of bed & take a short walk. Will feel a sting while you cough or sneeze, recommend you to hold a soft pillow and brace it against your abdomen to soothen the pain. You might get your airways irritated due to the way anesthesia was given, the nurse came in with nebulizers to clear your lungs twice a day. Had a catheter inserted, not a good feeling. Was concerned about the pain when someone tries to remove it the next day. Discharged from the hospital in the evening Day-2 : Pain had subsided a lot. Nurses continued to give me painkillers. Catheter was removed, no pain but a slight burning sensation for a second. I was able to get up and pee, experienced no pain while urinating. There will be slight discomfort because of the inserted catheter. I was constantly told to be up on my feet and take short walks. Left home at 5PM , make sure you get someone to drive you home, I don't think I could have driven home myself. Watch those speed bumps and ask the person to be cautious while driving you home, initial weeks are the most crucial. Day-3 : At home: Slept well. Minimal pain. Walking around in the house normally doing regular chores. Complications are less than 5% . 1-5% = 95% HOPE! 95% Positivity. I had severe preoperative stress because this was my first main surgery ,I was very nervous and I was training since I was 18 years old, I did not take a weeks break from the gym, felt totally downhearted. Looking forward to complete 3 months of rehab and get back to the gym and start from baseline. God Bless! We Fall We Rise

Sir i had an laproscopic gallbladder operation in 2016. Now i have a small epigastric hernia of size 6mm there. Rarely i feel subtle discomfort or pain in that area. So how long should i delay my surgery now?
Well, the leading textbooks in Surgery, i.e. Schwartz Principles and Sabiston, do not support what you've said. Inguinal hernias make 75% of all hernias -- and provided they are asymptomatic or minimally symptomatic, they can be managed conservatively by watchful waiting. There is no difference in the pain or quality of life in observation vs surgery groups. Those who eventually elected surgical repair did it because of emerging pain. At least 20% of asymptomatic/minimally symptomatic patients will never need surgery. By delaying surgery one delays its complications too. At the same time, given the data from large trials, cited in the textbooks, incarceration/strangulation events are rare, from 0.3% to 4.5%. These figures equal the complication rates after surgical repair.
you did not mention the difference between male/female. I am under the understanding that inguinal canal hernias in females should always be repaired not postponed?

You must read the hernia chapter in Schwartz Principles of Surgery. It is available on the internet as a pdf, 10th or 11th edition. In minimally symptomatic patients watchful waiting is a valid option. Patients elected to have surgery if pain developed, which prevented them from doing their normal daily activities. The complication rates in the waiting group are low, 1,8 per 1000 patient years, and although 80% of patients eventually went for an operation, 20% will never need surgery.

Three months before I had surgery for umbilical hernia and two months after surgery I noticed recurring of my belly button. Done scan and found hernia back. Dr advised to undergo Lap surgery again but am not in confidence again to go thru general anaesthesia etc. Dr can I postpone for next 6 months. I am not feeling pain . Just belly button protruding.
I`m 64 and should`ve had laprascopic Hernia Surgery (belly button area) two days ago here in Bavaria (Germany). I canceled the night before after having watched a couple of your videos and after carefully considering the pros and cons of such an operation in my individual case. I`ve had this particular hernia for about 6 years now without ever having had any pain or complications . Not once. Besides my age I also am adipose, which (according to you) poses a higher risk of having a recurrence , not to mention all the other side effects that could follow. So I`m asking myself: Why should I take this risk of a hernia surgery (and maybe more than one) when I've been perfectly fine all these years ? Yes, bowel strangulation is often cited, but what is the percentage of this risk ? The leading professor in Germany on Hernias says it's minimal (around 4-6 %) of all hernia cases.
I get u bro, but look it like this - if were talking about the statistics, its more likely to have some unexpected event and hurt urself really bad beacuse of that hernia, than to have complications. I had umbilical for 6 years also, and i tought its just an umbilical hernia. Turns out, its a ventral hernia that u can see in that place, but its actually much larger under the muscles. So i did the surgery 5 days ago, unfortunately with a classic inscision cuz laparascopic was 3x expencive, i have a large scar and this recovery is a fuuuucking pain in the ass. But you know what? I also now have 10x15 mesh inside me thats stronger that that tissue u have inside u anyway. So yeah, it could be complicated, but u have to understand that u WILL have to do it one day, better on time :))
Oh, especially now when i saw the year count...that tissue will become weaker and weaker, and if u have the money PLEASE take the laprascopic repair, im 30 years old and i was really struggling with the open surgery, cant imagine someone 2x older to go through that man...
My two year old son underwent surgery for pyloric stenosis but he has an incisional hernia. The doctor told that there would be surgery later to repair the hernia. Someone tell me will this surgery be risky?
My brother have one big as a basketball but they are saying in the Bahamas his heart is low so they keep trying to get his heart back up to do the surgery some doctors say he needs it now some saying he have to wait any body can help 😢
I heard a lot of people telling to postpone it....but what to do with the pain and discomfort. ? ..im getting tired of taking pain killers every day....................what are your thoughts....

Thank you for this video. I have a question I am hoping the Doctor or someone following this channel can answer. I had a CT scan of my abdomen about 2 weeks ago due to severe right flank pain. I was told there was no hernia, no mass, no infection, etc. Basically the doctor told me they did not see anything that would be causing my right flank pain. However, as I was reading through the overall CT scan results a couple of days ago, I saw there was a note in the FINDINGS section under EXTRA-ABDOMINAL SOFT TISSUES that states "Small fat-containing umbilical hernia". The doctor at the ER (where I had the CT scan) never said anything about this hernia, she told me there was no evidence of a hernia at all. Then I had an appointment 3 days ago with a Family doctor that saw the note for the umbilical hernia, but all she said was that this would not be the cause of my flank pain. Nothing was mentioned about getting this repaired at all, never mind waiting any amount of time. I have been having the right flank pain for over 7 weeks now, and no one can tell me why. I have had 2 CT scans (first without, then with contrast), an MRI and multiple doctors examining my right flank and abdomen with palpitations checking for a mass or abnormality with no findings of anything that would cause my pain. This pain is every day, all day as long as I am either standing or sitting. The only time the pain goes away is when I lay on my back. After 10 to 15 minutes on my back, the pain is completely gone. So, my question is does this hernia need to be repaired with surgery as soon as possible?
I suggest you go to see Dr. Kedrick MacArthur, 21 st Century Surgical Associates, Ft. Myers, Fl. He was the only surgeon to review my ct scsn and mri from vietnam, and fiexed my 6th reccurent groin hernia. You are being told nonsense as they want the hole to get larger, then operate. Big mistake. Do you sew the small hole up on your shirt, or di you wait for the hole to get larger? You repair it when it is small.

Doctors love surgery when it isn't always necessary.
Surgery might not be necessary. But I had a belly button surgery as my stomach was coming out the front of it
Been a bloody nightmare since the operation
You might be right but I didn't want to live another 20/30 years how I was
Did I do the right thing?
Can you weight lift with haitus hernia plz reply
@@hassan-zb8zn yes but a support strap is advisable. I have no problem with the hiatus hernia
what sexual posistion, also having an inguinal hernia and indulging in hardcore sex, is it right to do so ?
@@Nonegiven14582you mentioned being a "bloody nightmare since the operation". I hope you are dong better now. 12 years ago I had inguinal hernia surgery. That was fine and Im glad I had it. Today I found out I have an umbilical hernia, so as David Coverdale sang, here we go again.
Had a hernia when I was younger ,wore a truss belt ,eventually testicles returned to normal size without surgery, lucked out.
Really???
Hello Sir
Do u do surgeries in Bangalore
Hello Doctor l want ask some question about insicinal harnia are you here
What advice would you give to someone like me who has been training for a marathon and has been diagnosed with an inguinal hernia? Can I continue running if the pain or discomfort is minimal? Also, this is now my 11th hernia. I’ve had open repairs and robotic repairs. I don’t know why this keeps happening and I’m hopeful to put this behind me. Thank you
Holy shit...and im here bragging about having 2 hernias only in the past 15 years...Did they put a mesh on every one?
Does 1.2 cm inguinal hernia requires surgery?
For herina mesh is compulsory are with mesh also can do ..bcs my mom having small herina ..so plz suggeste me ..
Mene right side hernia ki surgery ki hai .... Ab left side bhi inguinal hernia develop ho raha hai.....😢😢😢
Doctor I want to know one thing.
Which part of the body is cut in an inguinal hernia surgery - belly button or groin?
I had inguinal groin hernia surgery 2 weeks ago. I have 4 small cuts in my stomach including the belly button. I preferred that instead of cutting right into the hernia.

I have been identified with hiactus hernia and the food gets stuck in esophagus like chapati while eating is it going to well after surgery for ever as I am 38 yes and now I can't consume chili powder masalas etc it burps immediately and burns with heat burn and sweating after meal
I have a hiatal hernia and I have been coughing nonstop. I’m thinking about getting the surgery. I also have major constipation.
What do you think?

Doctor
Is there any risk of death in an inguinal hernia surgery?
Not at all ..Its not at all complex and my father who is 75 year old had gone through the surgery for both inguinal and umbilical (belly button hernia) with Dr.ParthaSarathy and it was such a speedy recovery which we could not imagine at his age.He is the best doctor whom you can blindly trust and go ahead please
No
probably not. but lets put it this way. some folks are saying 'dont delay..just go do it". surgeries go wrong quite often. so if it isnt bothering you, wait...find a really good place to get it done....but dont rush imo. do non mesh if you can.
Hi doctor ..my surgeon has postpone and next apoiment in 3 months..becos I have hypes semplex and some lympnodes at gorin..any suggestion ..pls?

I’m not a doctor, but I’d advise you to go see a gastroenterologist instead of waiting for some RUclips doctor to respond.

a slipped disc is, i believe, the same thing as a ruptured disc (in the spine) and the hernias discussed in the video are muscle-tear hernias on the abdomen.

I was told by my doctor its a watch and wait if I want it done it will cost me thousands
I'm in the same boat as you. Small left side scrotal hernia thankfully no pain with it.
Watch and wait is a valid option in minimally symptomatic inguinal hernias.

I waited 1 yr to get a surgery , but it was starting to hurt everyday after work, but now iam 1 week after surgery i regret it , it fuckn hurts , feels like iam being stabbed in the sac lol
Do you regret having the surgery? Or waiting to have surgery? Is the pain followed by the surgical procedure? Was the pain you've described present prior to your surgery?
Thank You.
Update?
Yes
I suggest you go to see Dr. Kedrick MacArthur, 21 st Century Surgical Associates, Ft. Myers, Fl. He was the only surgeon to review my ct scsn and mri from vietnam, and fiexed my 6th reccurent groin hernia. You are being told nonsense as they want the hole to get larger, then operate. Big mistake. Do you sew the small hole up on your shirt, or di you wait for the hole to get larger? You repair it when it is small.
Does hernia make one penis to be small?
