I'm going in soon for hernia repair. Glad to see this video saw another of some guy who said the pain was unbearable. Of course that was 8 years ago. I'm sure much progress has been made.
I had outpatient, abdominal, laparoscopic, incisional hernia repair surgery, with mesh, yesterday morning, at a reputable hospital, by a reputable surgeon. After surgery, they administered a local block, that they said would help keep the pain reduced for two to three days. I was also given an RX for pain meds to be taken orally, at home. I took a nap and slept two hours past time for 2nd dose of oral pain meds. I woke up at 4 a.m., and when I tried to raise up the remaining few inches to get on my feet, out of a lift chair, I was moaning, crying, and holding my breath, because it hurt so badly! The pain is horrible beyond belief! (And I have a very high level of pain tolerance!) Not trying to scare anyone, but this one week pain recovery is BS, unless it is for a different type of hernia repair surgery! Tip: Do everything you are able to do, before surgery, to strengthen your legs and arms. You are going to depend on them!
I hope so. I had my right side done about 8 years ago (open surgery), and for the first couple of days, I could barely make it to the bathroom, the pain was so bad. (I had stopped taking the prescription pain meds, because they weren't doing any good.) Then I discovered the trick of putting lots of ice on the area, to numb it, prior to getting out of bed. This made the pain bearable. I was able walk around fairly comfortably, un-iced, after about a week. I should mention that I was with an HMO at the time, and didn't have the luxury of choosing a specialist/ surgeon. It looks like I may have to get the opposite side done now, so I'm hoping materials and techniques have improved.
11 days after open mesh inguinal hernia repair simultaneous with open repair of an old, small umbilical hernia (no mesh was needed). Pain was never bad, I would just call it discomfort. They gave me strong pain pills which I never took -- I took Ibuprofen 3 times daily and am still taking it but probably dont need to anymore. I am still uncomfortable walking around standing especially after sitting. But it gets a little better every day. I hope I can return to strength training by 8 weeks and do not have a recurrence since I had mesh.
I have also inguinal hernia open surgery 11 days ago but pain is continue while when I sleep I feel comfortable but but when I sit or walking around then I feel discomfort. I want to know how much time taken to heel this pain. Plz reply me 💋🙏🙏
@@iftekharmumtaz I am told it varies. And also that 15% will feel chronic pain requiring medical intervention to include innervation or medication. I am now six weeks out of surgery and feel very little pain at all and only feel tight in that area when standing after siting and sometimes feel pulling in the hernia area. In fact it feels a little like I still have a hernia sometimes but I don't, it's just the sutures and mesh feeling like I have some balled up socks down there. The surgeon told me to expect that for some time and that I will always feel small little zaps of pain that dont hurt but are just short fast reminders that I have mesh down there that wont be a problem. At day 47 I dont feel pain just tightness. I think your pain will likely be gone by the third week. By the six month point, patients should not feel pain anymore but if chronic pain persists after six months then they should see their surgeon again for follow up. At two weeks out of surgery I began walking daily on a treadmill, starting slowly and building up. Now I am walking 50 minutes a day at 3.5 mph and 2% incline and feel fine. Today I went to the grocery store and carried a large bag of heavy groceries around and it started to bother me so I got a cart. We must start back gradually to exercise especially strength training. Be sure to stay mobile for healing. The blood flow is good. The pain should slowly recede over the next few months. I hope you feel better soon and am quite sure you will.
@@vijaygupta815 10 months after hernia repair surgery with mesh and I am now feeling 70% better than I did. One thing I have done is to walk straight up. For months I walked hunched forward due to tightness and pulling feeling in lower pelvis and inner thigh. Once I started walking and standing straight up I stretched out the tissue and feel better.
Quite interesting and informative. Addresses a variety of doubts often bother the minds of those undergone different surgical procedures for hernia, regarding resumption of their routine activities.
Thank you for this information sharing. After my inguinal groin hernia surgery. Open surgery, I felt not much pain the first day. Second day was aching just took Acetaminophen walked around house, took out garbage and rested. After 9, days went to buy a new battery for my truck.Today is day 12. Hoping to have a careful normal day doing light chores.
How are you now? I see it's been a year since it's done. Did you start with weight training or something like that? Do you feel any kind of pain if you are engaged in physical activities most part of the day?
Hi, Im doing well now. No problems, Only weights I do are curls, and triceps over head press. No pain now. Sex was one week later. No problems. Are you getting surgery ?@@anuragoesarcastic
I had open surgery for a hernia earlier this year,I was back working in three days ,I'm a plumber so had to take it a bit easy for a few days but the operation was a great success,I had to go private not NHS as I would probably had to wait a a couple of years

I’m on Day 3 of recovery. I’m already completely off pain medicine. Don’t be scared, friends. I’m 43, in good health but nothing special. I had a right side inguinal hernia mesh repair - and during my examination my surgeon detected a weakness on the left too, so he meshed that preemptively. All done in one operation, laparoscopically. My right hernia was slightly higher up compared to the average inguinal, I’m told, but I can’t say whether that really effected my comfort after the operation. Day 1 is rough - but not unbearable. No need to be worried. I didn’t even need the opioid painkillers. I stuck to a Tylenol + Aleve combo. Icing is a must. I did 20-30mins on/off for the first 2 days. Helped a lot. Remember to ice your balls too - they swell. I iced in bed right before sleeping, but didn’t do it again until the morning. I had help, but I kept ice packs in a small cooler by the couch, and in another small cooler by the bed for convenience anyway. Also, get up and walk around the room for a few of the 20mins phases when you’re not icing yourself - walking sooner rather than later has speeded up my recovery significantly. Seriously, do it Day 1. Diet is super important: you really, really don’t want to get constipated from the painkillers. So for 2 days BEFORE the operation, I ate vegan/vegetarian meals with high fiber. The afternoon/evening after my surgery, I only drank plain chicken broth (just liquid) with a little fiber powder in it, with salt and herbs, and a handful of saltine crackers. Felt SO GOOD after the pre-surgery fasting. Also has a nice dose of protein in it, which helps. Day 2, I upgraded to lentil soup with crackers and some peanut butter on wholewheat toast. Felt AMAZING. I read someone’s advice not to over-hydrate immediately after surgery until you’ve peed. Apparently there’s a risk of the bladder not waking up immediately after surgery, so by drinking too much too fast, they needed to go to the ER to get a catheter. So I did drink some water in the recovery room, but was cautious at home until I peed the first time. I started taking stool softeners the evening of the operation, and took them again in the morning and evening of Day 2. I also drank a cup of Smooth Move tea each day. Day 1, I lay down propped up when I wasn’t up and walking. Day 2, I made myself to sit in a regular chair to get myself ready to sit on the toilet. I had my first bowel movement in the evening of on Day 2, without giving myself an enema, thankfully. However, I had some home ones on hand just in case. Likewise, I had Milk of Magnesia on standby, but so far haven’t needed it. In short: hydration + lentil soup + stool softeners is a winner. I’m on Day 3 now. Trying not to get cocky, but I managed to shower fairly comfortably this morning and I’m off pain meds completely. A couple of other handy bits: I was very lucky: my surgeon gave me ‘mobile blood clot prevention’ things that are basically compression socks that have a little motor that squeezes your calf every minute or so. I wore them while I was sleeping and I think they’ve been a good addition. But even if you don’t get those, regular compression socks will also do the trick, no doubt. Also, after my intubation my throat was quite sore and I often had to cough, which is very painful. A throat numbing spray was a great help. If you have people taking care of you, make sure they take Covid tests and don’t have a regular cough/cold - you definitely don’t want to be coughing or sneezing during your recovery. And that’s everything so far! I was so grateful for the accounts and advice I found in places like this, so this is me thanking all you strangers and paying it forward. Truly, don’t be scared - it’s been nowhere near as bad as I feared - you can do it, friends! Power up!!
So my question is this that I am living in 3rd floor so if I do surgery how can I claim the stairs or using the stairs for the first day of my operation, is there any idea here plz
