    1:03:00 really interesting anecdote - I had a similar experience when I first started out as a total novice with stronglifts 5x5, eventually stalled, and then read on the internet that I should switch to SS LP 3x5 ("it's just better bro") and suddenly my lifts went up again. For about two weeks, lol. Then I was completely stuck.
    In the end I discovered BBM through the SS LP so in retrospect I'm glad it went that way.

    Tom's right. I ran the Texas Method for a minute, and quit as soon as I had my second nightmare about volume day. Training has been infinitely more fun since.

      @blue5896 5 лет назад

      I had a similar experience, but only with the volume day. I loved intensity day. Volume day was always fucking brutal though. My answer was to mix volume/light/heavy across the week (volume press on wednesday, cleans on friday). That worked for a while, but it was still too much fatigue for the result obtained.

    Hey! Damn amazing Q&A. This time you were talking more about hypertrophy and getting jacked, which is amazing, and you mentioned: volume should go up over time. So how do you know when and how much you should increase it ? For example: you do 12 sets for legs for 12 weeks, when would you “up the dose?” Thanks! Love your content, guys.

    • @Worlds.Strongest.Mauro10
      @Worlds.Strongest.Mauro10 5 лет назад +1

      Well generally, I would assume that BBM doesn't make people just "do legs", but after about 2-3 weeks, you should be able to tell if something is working or not.

    • @adomasjasiukenas1425
      @adomasjasiukenas1425 5 лет назад

      The leg example was just a bro joke, like Jordan gave one in the Q and A but I think it is hard to tell if things are not working because of the volume. The hardest part for me is to know how and when to increase it, cause not doing enough is stressing, also, doing too much is. So to clear things up, my question is:
      How long can you grow without increasing the volume?

    • @benjamingroves1703
      @benjamingroves1703 4 года назад

      @@adomasjasiukenas1425 My take on what he's saying is if you're using some subjective rating, such as RPE, and you're recording work outs, you'll see it on the page, for example:
      Programme says to squat a top set of 5@ RPE 9. Three weeks ago in your log that was 160kg... however last 2 weeks you've done 5 reps of 160, and it felt like you could have probably hit 2 or 3 more (you got stronger, cool)... it's time to up the weight... when you get to the point where after 2-3 weeks that stress with the same weight isn't decreasing and 5 reps at that same weight is consistently still REP 9 (you're not getting stronger, no cool)... roll the weight back a touch, up the volume.

    As a follow up to the coaching question. Any tips on becoming a coach for aspiring coaches. For those who follow your methodology and framework, is there any worth to a US starting strength accreditation while y’all build to a certification?

    • @BlargeMan
      @BlargeMan 5 лет назад

      Absolutely, the SS coach accreditation is extremely valuable and more recognizable than a BBM accreditation. BBM may introduce a better certification program eventually, but for now, the SS certification is more widely recognized and respected. So my answer would be to get both.

    What is barbell medicine's rationale for using a prowler for conditioning work?

    • @BarbellMedicine
      @BarbellMedicine  5 лет назад +8

      William Welsh we don’t recommend a prowler over any other type of conditioning unless you like it. The sole exception would be sprints, as many people can’t do sprints at high intensities without unnecessary injury risk. That said, the prowler is one of many potential conditioning modalities.

    • @getoffmeow

      basically however long it takes you to change the weights, from what I remember

    • @benjamingroves1703
      @benjamingroves1703 4 года назад

      Yeah, as you're warming up dissipating fatigue between sets probably isn't too much of a concern. 'Rest' while changing the weight has been the advice from these guys.
      If you're building up to working sets of 4@7; 4@8; and 4@9, I personally just do sets of 4 all the way up, keep adding weight with minimal rest periods until I hit the level of stress for that first working set i.e. until I hit 4@7. Then include appropriate rest periods during the work sets. You could add in rest periods, but the 'stress goal' for the first work set is still the same i.e. 4@7... it'll just take more minutes to get there. More time to get the same result doesn't seem to be the BBM way.

    I'm just trying to get a better idea of Jordan's opinion, because I'm a little confused right now. To clarify, is he A) of the opinion that any discrepancy in representation of women in strength sports is solely the result of societal pressures. B) Is he speaking about strength training in general, or in elite level performance (because I think the arguments diverge here a bit), and C)what is his opinion of the role of personal choice (selection) in determining demographics participation in an activity.

      Are you worried about it purely for aesthetic/physique purposes or for performance?
      Either way, I wouldn't really worry about it unless you're finding progress in lifts you care about is compromised... Which would be pretty unusual
      Carry on training, almost certainly you'll find your neck/upper traps get more jacked along with the rest of your body without the need to specifically target your neck.

    "They" (women) are not less competitive, but their competition among equals, among other women, is less spectacular, but FOR WOMEN it is good....
    The issue is that the best MAN in anything is the best PERSON, the best HUMAN, in that thing or competition, but the best WOMAN in anything is just the best AMONG WOMEN, and whatever the event of competition is, there is a MAN better than her....
    in the olympics the QUALIFYING time for track and field for MEN is the BEST record for WOMEN. In other words a man has to be almost as fast as the best woman JUST TO QUALIFY for his event.
    This is the issue, so "they" can blame biology for that.

      TheMostGodless SinfulBastard I disagree entirely with this, especially outside athletics, which is not what was being discussed. However, even in international sports there are a handful of events where the best person (via record) is a woman. Please retract your comments

      I didn't intend for this to be a punch to the gut to women, I thought I was stating FACTS from what I read, but I am open to possibly being mistaken and to correct myself. But I cannot do it just because you say it, as much as I respect your knowledge base.

      As I said, I amend my comment, and I stand corrected... point taken.
      I was not aware ultra endurance swimming's TIME world-record or olympic record was held by a woman... I mainly checked the track and field and weight lifting, and all more commonly held sports' records... I didn't check for example any sport, like sand volleyball where there are women's and men's divisions, plus that is a team sport... still I stand corrected, since I don't know ALL the many competitions in the olympics... archery is a weird example though, but I take it.
      I'm not married to any and anyone opinion or idea if it can be shown I am wrong. I don't think you made a very strong point with those examples but I did generalised a bit too much.

      .....what?
      Absolutely ridiculous. Arguments like this also importantly completely fail to take into account social differences between men and women.
      Like the FACT that we live in a society where women are responsible for an overwhelming amount of the (unpaid) domestic duties and are thus less capable of pursuing Activites like sports - especially women in lower socio-economic strata - further decreasing the range of genetically gifted women able to compete in sports

      @@wilconwel if there is less viewership how can there be the same amount of oportunity? the oportunity is proportional. it is FAIR. however if you want "equal" opportunities for women (in absolute terms), then you actually advocate for preferential treatment.
