    10 pullups/chin-ups (strict form, not those kipping ones) = significant challenge for average males. 20 pushups = pretty doable for most adult males; compared to pullups, you are moving significantly less weight with bigger muscles. 10 dips (full depth w good form) = solid challenge for most guys.
    These standards are very uneven. I know plenty of men who can't do a single pull up. I hardly know any guy who can't do two pushups .

    • @steven-fury
      @steven-fury Месяц назад +2

      lol not really. I could do 10 pull ups in elementary school. And as got older, 20 pull ups became normal

    • @a0kca1p
      @a0kca1p Месяц назад +14

      Child strength is different due to differing strength-to-weight ratios for various movements and body development through puberty. Even so, 10 strict pullups is still rare in elementary school .
      But anyway, Mike Thurston was specifically talking about adult men, and there is plentiful evidence based on large samples showing that doing ten good pullups is MUCH harder for most people than doing 20 good pushups. As an example, check out the Secret Service fitness test standards. For a 20-29yo male, doing 37 pushups in one minute would be graded as "very poor" and put you in the worst category in the test. On the flip side, doing just 11 pullups WITH NO TIME LIMIT AND BEING ALLOWED TO LET GO AS OFTEN AS NEEDED will put you in the highest category of "Excellent".

      It seems to me that pushups vary a lot in difficulty by the strictness of technique, but can be counted as pushups even with "meh" technique so the numbers can be deceiving when that is not taken into account. You can double or triple the number you can do just by "cheats" like resting your body on the ground between each one, not keeping your pelvis high, "bouncing" up using your whole posterior chain as a spring, dropping down with a lack of control, etc etc.

    Mike Thurston actually had a hair transplant (and I think some micro-pigmentation): he covered that in the past in a video vlog, and his insecurity about it! It was probably one of the most useful things he ever did, as it got a lot of attention at the time outside of fitness YT - because here was this nearly perfect looking dude who was dealing with this major insecurity alot of us deal with. He was essentially bringing awareness to it when alot of influencers were hiding it; so even in Mikes case, there is truth to the old adage that 'No One Is Perfect'! 👍

    Before Mike turned into an 'influencer' he was actually a personal trainer, in my hometown. So his technique has always been very good, and he even competed when he was younger. That being said theres no doubt he's on ped's, no shame in that, but he does lie to his audience. Also he's gone down the route of selling lifestyle courses, to rich assholes who pay upwards of 20,000 dollars to go and stay and be on his course for a few days, again no judgement but the 'influencer' lifestyle is obviously a very affluent one if you can con people into buying your courses.

My daughter goes to a great private school and is safe and cost if living is great here. I get more value for my money here. Dubai is what you make it, it's a blank canvas. Not doing the "Pulsing from the bottom" is a very good advice in general. A few years ago, I dislocated my shoulder, tore off my long biceps tendon and damaged the humeral head, just because of explosive strength when doing a downward lat pull with a little too much weight for my own good. The snapping sound is something you never forget.

      @Asto508 25 дней назад

      @@nickgodfrey1148 It was a chest expander with supposedly ~75kg strength, so roughly about my body weight when fully expanded, nothing too fancy, unless you are as stupid as me. :)
      I now have 6 carbon anchors in my shoulder for life and the surgeon who put them in as well as my physical therapist afterwards were both surprised how I even managed to do this.
      I have mild kyphosis and hypermobility in the shoulders, so that probably contributed to it somehow.
      The best part is that they didn't even know the tendon was torn off before they cut me open because in the MRI they could only see the ligament being ripped off partially from the upper socket part.
      Anyway, it took about 2 months until I could remove the big shoulder orthosis which had to be on 24/7.
      Then it took another few months to restore some muscles and regain some movement and then another 2 years until I was somewhat pain free when doing normal every day movements.
      Naturally, I took it very easy with any weight exercises over the years, so after almost 10 years and I'm still not fully pain-free and have "trust" issues, but I'll keep on trying to regain full movability. :)
      tl;dr
      Be careful
