Followed this video for a trouble free removal and install of my 2006 Jeep Wrangler ball joints. Went with the Dana/ Spicer parts and changed the axle u-joint while I was at it. Thanks for making these videos!
Just fyi. I bought the spicer ball joints from Amazon. They had the etching and everything went well. Thanks for your video. I put ball joints in freezer before install also.
Thanks for the info on the knurled ball joints. I prefer Moog and get just about all my parts from Rock Auto. I just looked and they only had the replacements that were knurled or offered caster and camber adjustment making these more expensive. A couple of then were also knurled. I will be getting Spicer from now on unless the knuckle is worn. If you have money to burn, check out the American Iron ball joint deletes that use a spherical bearing. Very salty. I would also suggest using Never Seize on the press fit. Never Seize will not cause it to become loose. It will make it easier to install and it will also help prevent rust between the surface of the stud and the tapered hole of the knuckle. I have called Never Seize , spoke to a technician and he said that press fits are an excellent place for it's application.
Very good instruction. Thank you. However, I'm having a hard time finding rental ball joint kits or even the HF kit that has the off set adaptor for Jeeps? Any other advice or tips for these lessor ball joint kits? TIA
Most auto parts stores in my area normally have them but you have to ask for it. I would call around until you find one. Not sure about the HF stuff...might be able to order the adapter.
I'm having the hardest time finding this offset 4 wheel drive adapter for my 2013 Jeep Wrangler. Is there a kit model number or can ya steer me in the right direction?
Hard to answer that question..... If you live in the rust belt, it would be far more difficult. If you've changed them before, you'll be quicker than a first timer. If everything goes well, then probably 1-2 hours. But rarely does everything go well.
Great video as always! I am going with the teraflex but they offer them without knurls now. Would you happen to have the part number for the press you used? I see some for like $140 online with alot of pieces but not sure if have slanted adapter for c gussets. Thank bro!
Part numbers have changed over the years. The press I use is OTC. I would search their website and determine which is best for your needs. The next time I'm out in the shop, I'll look at the 4x4 part to see if it has a number on it.
Hello… one of my upper ball joints the grease zerk broke off. I drove it around after they changed my ball joints and noticed it wasn’t there anymore. Is this a big issue?!
No. Even if it was broken off you can get the rest of it out fairly easy. The sell replacement zerks. It only becomes an issue if you don't ever lube it.
One comment, put a few drops of light machine oil on the ball joint tool ACME press threads. Easier to remove the ball joints and keeps tool in good shape for years to come...
It takes time to build a channel and get sound figured out. I encourage you to try it! It's a lot harder than you think unless you dump a lot of money in it right off the bat. My later videos are certainly better.

Thank you, very easy to follow and understand. Can't believe I never did this myself before and I'm 51.

Should you put anti seize or grease on the outside of the ball joint before installing? Or is it better do install dry
I add a thin layer of grease.

Search OTC 7894. You can go to OTC website too.
How long does this job take to do all four ball joints on the Jeep Wrangler

Well it took me 5 hours and I just got one installed. I did extract all 4 of course. I'm still needing to install the other 3
