Our Beach Resort NIGHTMARE

- Our dream of renovating a paradise beach resort in Belize quickly turned into a nightmare situation when the entire coast of Belize got pounded by a huge mass of sargassum, a seaweed that has gotten completely out of control as a result of global warming. The consequences were staggering - a horrible smell, nearly impossible to clean up, and toxic fumes that make anyone that breaths it in feel sick.
Without knowing how bad the problem would remain, and subsequent contract issues that prevented us from closing on the property, we packed up all our bags and left with our four kids without knowing where we would go. It was a very challenging time for us with so much uncertainty, but time has a way of healing all wounds and there were better things ahead for us.
So stressful but stoked how everything has turned out.
For sure!
Talk about resilient- one day at time keep on keeping on
Thank you! We couldn't have known how great it would turn out in the end.
Could of open a Sargassum smoothie shop. LOL
I think I just threw up a little in my mouth. Haha
It's obviously seasonal and runs the entire Mesoamerican reef system from cancun to Guatemala. This is why I bought on the west side of the island, the bay side.
So smart! We have definitely talked about that.
This makes me cry!
I cry every time I watch it. It takes me right back to those emotions. Such a challenging time.
I have been buying property in Belize since 2003. Unless you visit and go a few times to learn about the locals do not buy. I only buy land in corazol now as most of Belize is a sh@t hole. I would never buy on the islands you can never find competent workers there and everything costs 10x to build. Everything is built cheap and is falling apart
We'll have to check Corazol out for sure!
Sounds like you dodged a bullet honestly - just imagine if that contract had gone through or you lost a bunch of earnest money.
Yes, we're definitely grateful things worked out the way they did!
