The more I watch of this stuff, the more I'm sad, that there were no arcades where I grew up in the 90ies 😭 I only knew them from movies and always wanted to be at one. Even now I don't know of any in my country
You can just make one by buying off arcade machines, or if you're on a budget just customize sticks and attach them to boards or a computer running MAME.
And here I am, the one person who uses the Wii mote and Nunchuck for Smash. Why? _Because it's the controller I grew up with, and am comfortable with!_
I tried using Arcade sticks to play fighting games, but it just did not feel right to me. Nowadays I use gamepads. I usually use a Switch Pro Controller (Xenoblade 2 version), Hori Fighting Commander series pads, etc for fighting games (and others). Just use whatever controller that is comfortable to you.
Hey, I'm new to all of this. But I've played fighting games on keyboards for the longest. Are keyboards allowed? Also, am I allowed to set up my own button configuration or is it assigned to me? Thank you
The Holy Schois it obviously depends on where you're at, but in an actual competitive tournament anything that can be used to play fighting games can be used.
+Fernando Martin What makes Commander 4 special for me is the ability to use 8 action buttons with the right hand and the use the left hand solely for directional input. It's like an arcade stick on a pad :-P
The Neo Geo Pocket Color had a controls that haven't really been replicated on anything else, and that's a shame, because it's a really interesting design. Instead of a d-pad, it used a miniature thumb stick with microswitches. This makes it both fluid and definite. If you get an opportunity to play SNK vs. Capcom: The Match of the Millennium on one, do so, and you'll see what I mean.
It's actually the most brilliant stick ever! All the precision of a dpad but really easy to pull off the z-movements for dragon punches. Just such brilliant design!
I have been wondering why haven't anyone mentioned saturn pad, it has all the basic controls for fighting games. abc and xyz for l,m,h punch/kick, and two shoulder buttons for l+m+h. I don't know why people buy razer raion or the madcatz fightpad, they are literally saturn pad with modern design, yet they cost like $80. You can get usb saturn pad for like $10.
Keyboard warrior here. Always amused me how people say you can't win with a keyboard, then go around and moan about how hitbox is OP even though it's pretty much just an expensive keyboard.
+Roy Bread - I find it funny that using anything but an arcade-stick for fighting-games gets you mocked. Hitbox and keyboards "magically" get rid of difficult execution barriers and pad just makes execution "too difficult," to play any fighter.
Personally I think when it comes to fighting games a keyboard offers the most control But since I grew up playing primarily xbox, I mainly just use a xbox controller
I found this channel like an hour ago, well the music, the content and everything, damn man I can't even concentrate on the video while thinking about the quality of the thing Im watching. So classy. Daaamn. You have my eternal graditude for making that classy content.
I just recently picked up keyboard as a method for playing guilty gear since i grew up playing games on pc and i'm surprised how natural it feels. As long as you make sure the key mapping fits you, the motions feel way more natural than they ever have before
Absolutely zero information on what makes a fighting stick great, how it relates to fighting games or a comparison between a stick and a pad and which has advantages over the other and why.
It also depends on which SF character u choose. Different characters have different advantages or disadvantages to using or not using a gamepad controller vs a joystick.
as much as i love happ (& the memories) all my fightcades are sanwa/seimitsu buttons- sanwa with the appropriate gate requires far less force to trigger inputs imo
After being salty and losing a domestic Street Fighter Tournament final with my cousin’s, I just sat down to watch this, only to find out that Arcade Sticks just weren’t for me. Flash forward about 3 months. And I played with a control pad. And guess who just kikokened there way to the top! Thanks Gerald!
Finally switched to a fight stick and I enjoy it. I got used to it quickly, I was surprised. It is a bit loud so no playing while people are napping. If you are considering one get the square style joystick it's easier to stick low block.
Most of smash 4 patch were actually pretty competitive, fixing stronger characters and helping the lower tiers save for a few that did not get the chance. Not to mention bringing back DI and changing shields to make them a bit less safe overall which are changes that almost had no effect on the casual players.
A good proof that you don't know anything you're talking about if you can't even remember a major change like the one done to shield. They also made perfect shield harder, in addition to making normal shields less safe. Probably for the casuals too. They never changed Greninja counter either, even more bullshit. Corrin counter had no reason to be that much better than any other counter, casual play or not that was a dumb choice and they nerfed it . Very few characters made viable by buffs? Marth & lucina, Mewtwo, Luigi, Geninja (yes, he has way more buffs than nerfs, you're welcome), Dk, Bowser, Meta-knight, and probably more. Characters like Shulk, Charizard, Falco,Link,Ike, etc were unplayable at release and had so many buffs they are now pretty decent .. Who got the most nerfs? Ho right, top tiers in competitive. ZSS win rate on casual is very low. Guess what? Yeah, nerfed. Bayo, Cloud, Sheik, a few (too) small one for Rosa, Diddy, Luigi (to be buffed again, probably because the casual cried for combo they couldn't pull out anyway,I guess) .. TLDR : You are full of shit and putting Corrin counter as an example (while she had many nerfs actually, since they found her too strong after release, nothing weird to tone her town a bit) or changes that did not happen like greninja counter does not help your case. Good day.
I’m a d-pad warrior, quick little story, in Daly City California there was a game store called videots or something like that and it was like a mom and pop rental store except all video games. Street fighter 2 turbo had been recently out and had gained some experience on techs such as zoning and picking up patterns and countering, anyway there was a no older dude like in his mid twenties and I was like 14 maybe. Anyway i would jump up and Hurricane kick over him and i noticed my recover time from a light Hurricane kick mid air was fast so after landing on the other side of him i would dragon punch immediately and would usually hit him. He was getting mad and said hold on I’ll be right back I’m going to get my sticks. Came back with an arcade stick and kept playing and i was still beating him. I’m over 40 now with a ps2 controller to usb playing mc2 on ps3. Still fun when i encounter my adversaries, I enjoy getting a win and upsetting their win streak. Right now I’m using the hori fighting commander it’s pretty cool
I always used a pad through and through, but a while ago I decided to try out a basic Hori mini fightstick for PS4. It wasn't as difficult to get used to as I thought, and there were some inputs and motions that I found surprisingly easier to do. On the other hand, there were some that were definitely harder, so I really do think it just comes down to what you're comfortable with.
Tfw I'll have to make my own fight stick because finding one with the buttons on the left is a pain and a half. ...And I also want to throw some directional keys into it.
I have been playing Tekken Tag 2 with a 360 circle pad, and I had been using it for a few years, I got to a pretty high rank with the pad, of course I have been using shameless tactics such as spamming, grabs, and repetitive move usage, but I think it's okay, as long as I improve more into my combos I'll use less of them. The stick... well, I hadn't played a lot of matches there, I have been using it only in arcades, but I can guess say it's like the pad, but move move-y, where the pad you kinda stay in one place.
The best way to play in my opinion is to simply rig up about 18 vape box mods, all vape geek aegis legends which all control different controller macros. So if you wanna move around then you take hits out of each box mod 🤙🤙🤙
I love fighting games but mannn i suck using an arcade stick it’s embarrassing to find a fighting game at a local arcade and stinking despite having played the game a ton on console with a pad
I really don't like the PlayStation controller, why should the d pad take up more room than and be above the joystick? Also I don't like that the d pad is 4 separate buttons rather than a cross.

The more I watch of this stuff, the more I'm sad, that there were no arcades where I grew up in the 90ies 😭 I only knew them from movies and always wanted to be at one. Even now I don't know of any in my country
Your missing out BIG time
@@Bartman36SeasonsStrong Please stop making him sadder, man.
@@nope1959
No
You can just make one by buying off arcade machines, or if you're on a budget just customize sticks and attach them to boards or a computer running MAME.
Round 1 arcades are pretty solid. There's a back half with plenty of Japanese rhythm and fighting game cabinets.
That feel when you realize even the Simpsons version is too old for you.
Lol
And here I am, the one person who uses the Wii mote and Nunchuck for Smash.
Why?
_Because it's the controller I grew up with, and am comfortable with!_
I grew up playing with that too, but I rather have just the wii remote without the nunchuck. Still, I respect your opinion.
Thanks.
Yeah, I've triedusing just the Wii-mote, and I'm not very good at it, but I'm sure it's not the controller's fault. I'm just not used to it.
I'm prety sure ScAtt uses the Wiimote + Nunchuck. There are actually some inputs that are easier with it.
Nizondo Yeah, they mention it in the PGR v2 video. Also, *insert smashbox joke*
You aren't the only one
*I wanna see someone win with a Time Crisis PS1 Gun controller.*

haha you used the fchamp getting owned clip
+Nunix #Justice
+Nunix That's Nico right there serving Justice.
I tried using Arcade sticks to play fighting games, but it just did not feel right to me. Nowadays I use gamepads. I usually use a Switch Pro Controller (Xenoblade 2 version), Hori Fighting Commander series pads, etc for fighting games (and others).
Just use whatever controller that is comfortable to you.
ima go win evo with some wired bannana's wish me luck :P
No Name lol thnx
Nahh mate, DK bongo's is where it's at for the Smash 4
lol k
also gonna do it for wired bannaners for analog sticks ima main akuma gen and t hawk or cammy too. :P
With a controller like that, you won't need luck.
keyboard users where you atttt
Hey, I'm new to all of this. But I've played fighting games on keyboards for the longest. Are keyboards allowed? Also, am I allowed to set up my own button configuration or is it assigned to me? Thank you
The Holy Schois it obviously depends on where you're at, but in an actual competitive tournament anything that can be used to play fighting games can be used.

here, tho only with Smash flash.

i use the stirring wheel for fighting games. i win every time
as much as it breaks my heart but due to my disability i am retiring from using controllers to play street fighter v and switching to a fight stick

Hori Fighting Commander 4 here!
Same
+Fernando Martin Same, love it.
+Fernando Martin What makes Commander 4 special for me is the ability to use 8 action buttons with the right hand and the use the left hand solely for directional input. It's like an arcade stick on a pad :-P
pad is amazing
How is the durability of these? I'm thinking on getting one soon.
"aNd YoUrE nOt UsInG oNe Of ThEsE" - someone actually wins EVO with a steering wheel.
???
Dualshock all day. Never ever blame your equipment. If you disagree, look up a player who goes by BrolyLegs and come back to me.
+Theyungcity23 Check out NOM4D too, the dude has a nasty Laura and he plays with his fucking face.
+Theyungcity23 cant use DS3 because my fingers keep moving the stick when playing on the d-pad :(
Theyungcity23 Perfect shield drops. Shit don’t exist without a good controller.
Just such brilliant design!
pretty sure that the neo geo cd has a controller like that
Sega Saturn, perfection.
Sega Saturn controller is my favourite for fighting games
Personally I think when it comes to fighting games a keyboard offers the most control
But since I grew up playing primarily xbox, I mainly just use a xbox controller
I find keyboard hard to use, the inputs need to be very precise, in brawlhalla at least.
I usually just beat the living shit out if my opponent then take and use their controller.
As long as you make sure the key mapping fits you, the motions feel way more natural than they ever have before
I'll have to give it a try!
Pshh didnt say anything about Gamecube controllers
the ending
+super koopa 64 (IRBS) no there is not
blazing knights or should i say after the ending. plus he doesn't need to say anything, what other controler is there

Especially Zangief's 360 and 720 on keyboard 🥲
as much as i love happ (& the memories)
all my fightcades are sanwa/seimitsu buttons-
sanwa with the appropriate gate requires far less force to trigger inputs imo
bruh im using a membrain keyboard and im kicking ass lamo
:0
Pffff get on my level I can beat a whole evo with Rollin rock
After being salty and losing a domestic Street Fighter Tournament final with my cousin’s, I just sat down to watch this, only to find out that Arcade Sticks just weren’t for me. Flash forward about 3 months. And I played with a control pad. And guess who just kikokened there way to the top! Thanks Gerald!
ps1 pad is the best
0:09 Do some people really play SFV on wheels out there ?
with zangief, full circles all day.
That's actually SFIV.
Finally switched to a fight stick and I enjoy it. I got used to it quickly, I was surprised. It is a bit loud so no playing while people are napping. If you are considering one get the square style joystick it's easier to stick low block.
That GC controller clip you slipped in at the very last second XD
I use a Guitar hero controller when I'm feeling risky.
That’s some cool art for your profile where is it from?
7:26 not aging well lmao
i was gonna say that LMAO
I like to think the GameCube remote is one of most creative considering that it was never designed to be played at a super competitive level
+GamingMadness242 Kinda like how Smash was never designed to be played competitively
Chris Tweten it's sad that a game never designed to be played technically is way more technical than most fighting games now a days
And you think SF2 was designed to be competitive? If so, think again.
Good day.
Who still have a ps1 controller
RealLife Master I have two of them
Wolf O'Donnell I do as well
I do...for some reason since I never have a Ps1 xd
We need a new one with the rise of hitbox!
Jokes on you, I'm a quadriplegic, so I don't use any controllers
+Stroose Music
o no.
U know why we use pad. ITS BECAUSE ITS CHEAP
For real lmao. $80 isn't so bad when it's compared to $200
**This**
I’m a d-pad warrior, quick little story, in Daly City California there was a game store called videots or something like that and it was like a mom and pop rental store except all video games.
This video got Drifted away.
Let's be honest, some fucker out there RIGHT NOW is trying to git gud atTekken using only a Dance Mat.
Tfw I'll have to make my own fight stick because finding one with the buttons on the left is a pain and a half.
...And I also want to throw some directional keys into it.
Yo gimme an update. Let's see how it turned out.
Ayo how'd that go?
GameCube Controller for MELEE BABYYYYYYYYYY
I have been playing Tekken Tag 2 with a 360 circle pad, and I had been using it for a few years, I got to a pretty high rank with the pad, of course I have been using shameless tactics such as spamming, grabs, and repetitive move usage, but I think it's okay, as long as I improve more into my combos I'll use less of them. The stick... well, I hadn't played a lot of matches there, I have been using it only in arcades, but I can guess say it's like the pad, but move move-y, where the pad you kinda stay in one place.

"And you`re not using one of these." -> Initial T: "Hold my beer"
What we learned: Harness the power of comfort.
I'm going to win EVO using my phone's touch screen pad. It'll be epic.
I use a keyboard for fighting
The best way to play in my opinion is to simply rig up about 18 vape box mods, all vape geek aegis legends which all control different controller macros. So if you wanna move around then you take hits out of each box mod 🤙🤙🤙
what a friggin plan.
I love fighting games but mannn i suck using an arcade stick it’s embarrassing to find a fighting game at a local arcade and stinking despite having played the game a ton on console with a pad
Dualshock 4 controller all the way.
The 2 way joystick is the best!
I really don't like the PlayStation controller, why should the d pad take up more room than and be above the joystick?
Also I don't like that the d pad is 4 separate buttons rather than a cross.
Ardainian Soldier The D-pad is a depressed cross. If it were separate, it would have an action like a keyboard.
@@sampleentry5253 aww, hope it gets better soon
next capcom cup winner will use a mouse.
BobZ how about a power glove
I personally prefer using sticks, but for some fighters, such as soul calibur, I prefer using a pad. It just depends on the game, really.
A Ps1 controller setup is all I need to play Tekken 7.
Right?? Because who uses the analog sticks anyway?
@@inSotherable I end up using DPAD anyway.
@@nunyaasher7402 for me, using the joystick makes me mess up directions so i dont use it
