Metcon 8 - I am new to working out and have recently started going to the gym for overall fitness. I have flat feet, and I'm wondering if this is beneficial for me?
If you're lifting heavier, then you'd prob be best off in a Metcon 9. The heel isn't too bad for sprints since you'll be primarily on the forefoot and if I'm running in them I'll typically save them for sprints/short intervals for that reason
Hi Jake! Thanks for the review. I am looking for shoes for Orange theory. Good for running on treadmill, squats and some weights lifting. Can you please suggest anything? Thanks!
I do a lot of jump ropes and it’s so tough to get a shoe for this purpose. I more tilted towards the Nike Air Zoom TR 1. Which would you suggest? Thanks Oh awesome review too 👍🏽
Hi Jake, I have done my deltoid surgery in my ankle and my ankle feels instable during small runs and workout. Could you recommend me a shoe with great ankle stability and comfort for short runs and workout?
For sure! What were you wearing before? IMO, a Dropset Trainer 2/nano X4/TYR CXT-Trainer/NOBULL Trainer+ could be decent options. They have pretty rigid boots
@@thatfitfriend I was using asics tiger runner and not actual gym shoes or running shoes. Thank you for your feedback, will check our recommendations and let you know.
I think you are biased towards Metcon 9. They are really uncomfortable. They don't have the cushion at all. The major issue is that the center of the shoe is too tight. My foot arch was in so much pain. Free Metcon 5 has good cushion vise and overall comfort but is not durable. Its shoe lace loop came out very quickly while walking down a rock mountain. I have the utterly opposite feel for Metcon 9 compared to you, and I bought them after watching your video.
I don’t like the Metcon 9, lol, especially compared to other training shoes. Nike, in general, has fallen off over the last two years - but when compared to other Nike trainers it is the best in certain verticals… Why would you use the Free Metcon for walking down a rock mountain? It’s not for that 😂 Metcon 9 ain’t for everyone and I say that a lot in all of my Metcon 9 reviews. They’re the “best” for lifting and CrossFit compared to the other models, though. Also, different folks will interpret shoes differently - it’s normal that sometimes we may not align on a model’s fit, all part of the nuance of shoes
Got a metcon 8. It was on sale for 46 dollars out the door. Jake recommend me metcon or 5. I used it for the gym.. I don't run much and am not strong to lift over 200 lbs. But once i put on the 8... I knew that other then walking and running, I don't want any air under nearby my foot because of stability. I used an asics as an eveything shoe...the one that doesn't seemed to have air underneath but i really love the stability feel and to me it is comfortable...j won't use it for all day walking or running ...
what about in court shoes like the Nike Phantom GX 2 Club IC Low-Top Football Shoes, clearly states football shoes but they look like they'd be good shoes for lifting weights
For the gym: *Romaleo 4* for squats *Metcon 8* for everything else (except extended running) Some days I'm lazy and just use the Metcons for squats and deads (and standing OHP, where stability is especially important), and they're always so stable and comfy. Such a well constructed and sturdy shoe, too. Plus the brown sole colourway is great for that retro look.
Also Jake, just to say a big thank you for always taking the time to reply. I've left a few questions on your reviews and you have always replied. I really appreciate it and I'm sure others do too. 🇬🇧🤜💥
@@chalky7319 I do, too. Maybe they’ll build out something better this year. I just hope the air zoom tr 1 didn’t replace them. Of course, I don’t get reviewers who don’t reply to comments. It’s the least I can do for you choosing to spend your time watching my content. Thank you 🤝
@@thatfitfriend Thanks I knew I made the right choice with the metcon 5, I like how stable it is during lifts and flexible enough for other gym activities.
I'd go Nike Metcon 9 if you're doing CrossFit. If you're not rope climbing or doing handstand push-ups in CF, then the Free Metcon can be a great lightweight option!
Great video ✌🏻❤Hello , love your work, can you please advise me between ths 2 shoes, Puma fuse 2.0 vs nike mc trainer 2 Confused between these 2, pls reply if possible
I have a question about the size of the Free Metcon 5. My normal shoe size is 8.5(26.5cm) and the upper of the Free Metcon 5 feels tight. In this case, should I go a half size larger? The Air Zoom TR 1 is sized fine at 8.5.
Hey Jake, im wondering if you could give me advice on a shoe or shoes that would be tood with custom orthotics. I have a low arch and my feet pronate. I haven't gotten any orthotics or insoles yet but I'm looking into zero drop hybrid trainers or maybe even barefoot cross trainers. I currently wear Nike Free Run 2108 for training and short runs and i wear Nike Pegasus 38 and 39 for long days on my feet at work and walking. Ive looked at some shoes you posted about and I'm wondering if these would still work if I put custom orthotics or insoles in them I'm interested in: Vimana Str/ke mvnt haze trainer and hybrid trainer Vivo barefoot Xero Shoes Reebok Nano X versions Inov8 Oncloud 1hund Aerolux Lems Altra Solstice XT 2 So far I havent tried any of these but just going based off your recommendations Also, do you think Pegasus 38 or 39 could be used as a cross trainer? I know they're running shoes but i wane to have a shoe that is balanced and that still gives good stability and holds up in different gym workouts Thanks in advance!
You could technically use them, but they’ll likely have points of limitation depending on what you’re doing. I’d look into models like Inov-8 F-Fly if you want that hybrid style training shoe. Should work with orthotics, too!
For pure gym purpose and same price, should I go with the zoom TR or the MC TR ? Not into CrossFit or running. Looking at pure low stack height and low heel drop!
Man, I'd look for an older Metcon 7/8 if it's possible to find them for a decent price. If not, I'd still go Air Zoom TR 1 despite them having a slightly higher stack height. They're just a better built shoe, imo.

I bought the zoom tr 1’s as kind of a more casual training shoe, and I’m honestly impressed with its performance and comfort.
That’s how I see them! Almost like as a hybrid option. Just filmed that vid and included them in it!

Air Zoom TR 1 would be your best bet here if you're looking into Nike specifically. The Lebron TR is also fairly bouncy. Testing those now!
Which do you think would be best for 2E wide foot? I'm just slightly wide but definitely not standard.
Nike Metcon 9 or Nike Free Metcon 6!
@@thatfitfriend truly appreciate your feedback!
How about Nike Control Flex 4?
Have a pair in the testing mix now! Stay tuned for the review
