Jake, you have given me some good suggestions but I found out that I can actually try the XT2s on in person at a local shop and that is a huge plus so I am thinking about giving them a go. Do you think they would be a good transition from a Reebook nano for an all-around training shoe for someone with wide feet (forefoot is my wide point)? I've got Xero 360s and I do like them, but I can't handle them for more than about 30 minutes at a go, yet. I just need a little more stack height for now. As an aside, the barefoot transition is going SLOW. Zero drop isn't an issue but stack height of less than about 11mm gets to me. Lunas Origens casually and Jim Green BFAR with 3mm veg tan insole added (the bare leather lasting board was killing my socks) are things I can wear all day every day. On the trails or in town, it doesn't matter. But they have a higher stack height and some firm but existent cushion. My 360's, not so much! Anyway, thank you. Nike Free Metcon 5 or Nano X3/Nano X4 could be great options to look into! Keep in mind, good cross-training shoes will typically fall a little short for longer runs
@@thatfitfriendin my country Nano X3 is cheaper like half the price of Metcon 5 ... are there any big difference that i should buy the Metcon one or just cop the Nano X3 instead?
I know you said the nano 2 are good for wider feet, but are they good for heavy lifting? Also you said the nano 3 work heavy lifting but are they good for wider feet?
Not necessarily, but I use most of the shoes I review for longer dog walks to assess comfort, breathability, and durability. Those walks generally are 1-3 miles in length depending on the day. Each week, I try to accumulate 10-20 miles of walking in different models. It's a nice easy and passive way to further assess daily wear functionality! Which shoes are you thinking about and maybe I can shed some context?
Hi Jake! Just tried on the Rad one I bought from rogue. I feel it is a bit narrow in mid-shoe area or very stiff there and so it like pressures my feet arches kinda inwards and upwards and causes light pain there. I have narrow feet so the toe box feels fine and true to size fit and the heel does not slip at all, unlike what happened with the nano X3. I had the same problem/pressure in the arches with nike Free metcon I tried a year ago. Any advice? The trainers I use the last 2 years is Asics kayano and I do a basic gym machine workout routine and some free weights, squats, pull ups push ups, lunges, bench etc.
Hmm...I'd give the RAD a little more time break in if you don't feel like returning them. Another option to explore could be the Adidas Dropset Trainer 2. You can prob find them on sale and they may have a sole construction that aligns with your foot anatomy here.
@@thatfitfriend Yes I really liked the look and all around purpose of the Rad one but it really caused me some arch pain after the first time trying them on and doing some light dumbbell exercises. I mostly realized it after the workout. Do you find the Rads to have aggressive mid-foot taper compared to other training pairs?? I m worried that I might not be very tolerant to that kind of mid-foot taper since the Nike free metcon caused me exactly the same discomfort. It's like having a sensitivity right at the arch even though I'm not flat footed.!
Hey Jake, I'm having a bit of a dilemma and could really use your advice. I'm stuck between choosing the Nike Metcon 9 and the UA Tribase Regin 5 shoes. They're both around the same price point, but I'm not sure which one is the better option for me. I've heard good things about both, but I'm really looking for something that offers great support and durability for my cross training workouts. Which one do you think is better? Thanks for your help!
I currently use Altra HIIT XT. I love them. But they don’t make them anymore. They were replaced by Altra Solstice XT2. I was going to get the Altra Solstice XT2, but I’ve seen so many bad reviews about Altra shoes now. Durability issues, the sole coming off after only a few months, etc. So what other shoe can I use that has near zero drop and wide toe box? Any suggestions?
RADs are tremendously good for crossfit. So far my fav. I've had the Haze Trainers and loved them too, but I didn't think they lasted as long as other shoes.
I love the nano 2.0 but the bottom falls apart within a month. They need to fix the sole design. I purchased shoe glue because of how hard it is to find a good wide CrossFit shoe with zero drop. How does Altra compare to it?
Thanks for the great content! The best Reebok n x3 more like narrow fit alternative would be the rad one, the adidas dropset or the strike mvmt ? All around gym shoe usage
Hi, this video was really informative but I’m still a bit lost in regard to deciding on a pair to buy so I was wondering if you could give me some specific recommendations. I run a couple of times a week (about 2-3 miles) may use the shoes for walking/daily use I weight lift at the gym multiple days a week (about 6 months) I also supinate to some extent Thankyou!!!
Hey - Thank you for checking out the video! Totally understandable. As you wear more models it actually get easier to navigate the overwhelming amount of options out there. My top two recs would be: -Reebok Nano X3 -RAD ONE RAD ONE will be a little more expensive, but they're super solid if you don't mind the price and navigating the smaller drops!
Most shoes will work plenty fine for those needs! I wouldn't stress that too much and go with an option that has a colorway/price that aligns with your needs.
How would you compare the rad ones width to the metcons 7? The 7 I own now and find them really comfortable In width I just bought the 8’s and there super narrow for my feet
I ordered the Reebok nano x4 but the size was just way too small, then ordered half a size bigger and it was too big lol. any suggestions on just a good overall training shoe, metcon 9 seems good but I dont rope climb and hate the design of the metcon 9 with the rope guard full up
Dropset Trainer 2 / Mizuno TS 01 / UA TriBase Reign 6 all will work well, imo, especially if it's for sessions to train for hockey where you'll be explosive + lifting. I used to play growing up, too!
It's on my to-do. I want to bring a DPT friend in for that one so they can talk about PF and also working on it. Feel like that could be a cool video to talk shoes and educate!
Thank you for the review! I’ve been looking for a shoe that can handle my workouts (2-4 miles running + weightlifting around 220 lbs) but as I am a student I don’t really have the option to buy several high-end shoes for different usages. From what you’re describing the Cloud X3 or the nanox3 could be good options. Do they sound good for my usage or do you have any other recommendations? I have a neutral foot. Thank you!
Altra, buttttt that model is sub-par for heavy training/CrossFit. If the latter are in your performance asks then the Nano 2.0 or BP Savage 1 would be good options!
Hi Jake, loved the video but I'm still confused! I'm into lifting (5x/week) and running 5k (2x/week). I'm looking for something comfortable that I can sometimes wear for daily wear too. I have a neutral foot. I used to have project rock 2 but the days I used them for daily wear all day, my feet and ankles hurt a lot. Maybe because of the 8mm heel to toe drop? What would you recommend for my needs? Thank you!
Haha, it's an overwhelming process - you're not alone! If your lifting isn't crazy heavy, then I'd look into the Nike Free Metcon 5. The Reebok Nano X3 and UA TriBase Reign 5 can also be good options to explore!
Have you tried the wide version of the Tyr CXT-1 trainers yet? If so, how do they fair? I have a wide foot and have been debating those since they have a wide fit now. I’ve been rocking the BP Savage 1s, Hazes, and RAD 1s for a while.
Different types of shoes. Barefoot shoes =/= cross-training shoes! I’ll have a nest barefoot shoes video coming out eventually with a CrossFit section.
Hi from Ireland Jake. Love the video but still not sure could you maybe offer an opinion? Weight train 3 times a week currently (trying to add in more around the kids!) I was looking at UA PR6 Nano x3 or Metcons, I’ve to buy online as my shops are useless so trying to make sure I am confident in my decision 😂 I’ll add in small amount of cardio just for lung health nothing major Thanks!
Hey! I would opt for the Nano X3 over the PR 6 or latest Metcons. PR 6 can feel heavy and clunky and the Metcons are "meh" for cardio. Hope that helps!
It’s funny how much the “CrossFit” shoe has changed. Comparing my Metcon 4 with my Nano x3, the Metcon is more than half an inch wider. Nanos are considered the wide option these days. My toes are cramped in the Nano (except the Froning cos it’s stretchy). Tribase Reign is wider and doesn’t feel like I’m borrowing my wife’s heels. I think the BP Savage1 is the correct direction. Back to basics.
Classic pendulum swings in fitness and product. I’m really hoping the over engineering of models like the Nano and Metcon ease up & start to get refined or that more companies like BP stick with that simplistic ideology. Bummed the BP came out after this video was shot ffs 😂
@@thatfitfriend Me too mate. What I loved about the first 4 Nanos & Metcons is that you kinda forgot you were wearing them. They just kept you stable, gave you support & grip and protected your feet.
@@PrimalPetersen this x 1,000. Would be funny if Nike brought back the Met 4 to compare its sales to the 9. Feel like folks would be like, “ohhh, we had it good”.

really great overview. it’s very thorough. i currently use the Xero 350 for the gym and running 🏃♂️. i find it to be most good. however, some downsides. while the top of the toe box is very durable, the front of the toe box is pretty crappy. not to mention, the back of the heel is pretty crappy too. for weightlifting 🏋️♀️, it was initially more difficult to get under the bar while doing clean & jerk or snatch, but the body adapted to it. it not so good at agility workouts. it’s also not so good at functional. pulling and pushing sleds always feel it’s gonna come off. it’s pretty crap on a mtn bike with flat pedals. The pedals digs into the feet will pedaling. it’s truly awful going of jumps and dropouts. it’s more ok’ish on a spin bike. overall, I really like it for the gym and running 🏃♀️.
Hi Jake - Love your content. As someone from Europe, the three options for women's shoes are not very widely available in stores here. Wonder what you'd recommend between Nike metcon 9, Adidas superset 2, Reebok nano x3, and under armour tribase reign 5. These brands are easier to get my hands on! My main issues with training (predominantly individual gym workouts, 4 X a week & a very very very occasional CrossFit class) are that I lack depths with (free weight) squats - which I unfortunately now avoid but they get slightly better once I put my heels on weights, and I tend to "forward fold" less. Sometimes my forefoot wants to come off ground so not a huge fan of a small/floating toe box. Wondering if higher heel to toe drop helps with this, in addition to the never ending hip flexibility and ankle mobility exercises 😅. I don't do heavy weightlifting by the way, and I always do some sort of cardio pre or post work out, just warm up. I own a pair of running shoes for the approx. 2 times a month I go outside for a longer run. The second thing is some instability with unilateral work on the lower body. Hope you can share some thoughts! 😁😁😁
I'd go with the Nano X3 or Dropset Trainer 2. 1) They'll have higher heel-to-toe drops (7mm and 6mm, respectively) which could help translate to better squat mechanics regarding needing a little heel elevation for you. 2) Nano X3 will be slightly better for runnability, but the Dropset Trainer 2 works fine for intervals and sprints. I'd pass on the Metcon 9 because it's sub-par for $150 and the TriBase Reign 5 because its lower 2mm drop likely wouldn't feed well into your current needs.
All my trainers are in this video and I got because of your reviews Haze Trainer, Rad One, X3, and Ballistic Trainer Mid All great for different reasons If I had to pick one it would be the Rad One, I just wish it was a little wider, but not too bad with loosened laces at the mid foot Maybe in the RAD Two one day Awesome vid Jake as always
How about a women’s stability shoe for women for aerobics/ training No one has a great sneaker anymore Bring back the Nike cross’s trainers from the early 90s Total junk today- I’ve tried most of the overpriced sneakers--- not everyone runs- the companies haven’t figured that out yet
I agree! If you like Nike and want a budget option, give the Flex Control 4 a try. I've been enjoying those a lot! The RAD ONE could also be worth exploring if you're down to spend a bit more.
@@jeannetteryals6180 They should! Have a bit of arch to them. The Nike Free Metcon 5 would be a more premium option to explore. May be able to find them on sale, too!
Lol. Just go through box basics… Much better customer experience and return policies. We learned this lesson the hard way. Also, I love them, lol, I’m not going to not recommend something I like when there’s a better work around.
Modern fitness shoes are fugly. Change my mind. Remember the nanos up until after 6s and the metcons up to the 3s. This is clearly a matrix attack to brainwash us into liking ugly things from modern usic, fashion, and shoes lol.
No offense against you specifically. We all have be positive with what’s only available to work with and this is only what available to consumers nowadays. Your content has no issues, I’m just talking about the shoes.
@@jace3504 no, I know and I hear you. I’m not taking any personal offense here. I love more refined training shoes like the Metcon 4/Nano 2/4, buttttt, I know that’s not how everyone feels so I try not to insert taste preferences into comment/responses. I think of the beginner that’s finally getting into training and buys something like a Nano X3 then gets down or second guesses their decision based on comments like this. If they like em, let it rip and keep training if they feel good in what they’re rocking. Everyone will find their way towards what’s best for em.

I will visit Orlando in the next week!
I don't know of any stores that carry them, unfortunately!
APL Techloom Tracer or On Cloud X 3 or On Cloud Shift? I do light running on roads, boxing, plyometrics. All outdoors except for boxing. Rain or shine.
Cloud X 3! Cloudtec would break down too quickly in rain, imo

Kindly suggest me a shoe that goes easy on my feet and yet be firm enough so I train carefree ,
I am mostly doing cardio workouts and some strength training as I have only started my journey to get fit
Kindly someone help and suggest something for me
Altra Solstice XT 3!
hey im trying to find a shoe for normal exercises in the gym aswell as a running shoe when doing cardio. Any reccomendations?
Nike Free Metcon 5 or Nano X3/Nano X4 could be great options to look into! Keep in mind, good cross-training shoes will typically fall a little short for longer runs
@@thatfitfriendin my country Nano X3 is cheaper like half the price of Metcon 5 ... are there any big difference that i should buy the Metcon one or just cop the Nano X3 instead?
@@mon5ter651 I'd go Nano :)
I know you said the nano 2 are good for wider feet, but are they good for heavy lifting? Also you said the nano 3 work heavy lifting but are they good for wider feet?
Yeah, the Nano 2 are solid!
Nano 2 is wider than Nano X3 and a bit better for lifting, imo.
Dear Jake ! Which shoe is best for playing football ( oops! It’s soccer in US) especially on turf?
Do you want a training shoe or go for something like a Samba? Those can work great for training, too!
Great stuff. Do you have any reviews specifically for long walking several times per week or should we just refer to your running-specific reviews?
Not necessarily, but I use most of the shoes I review for longer dog walks to assess comfort, breathability, and durability. Those walks generally are 1-3 miles in length depending on the day. Each week, I try to accumulate 10-20 miles of walking in different models. It's a nice easy and passive way to further assess daily wear functionality!
Which shoes are you thinking about and maybe I can shed some context?
@@thatfitfriend I was thinking of something like a Hoka or Altra as a dedicated “walking for cardio” shoe
Hi, help me choose the best shoes for the gym:
Nike mc trainer 2 vs Reebok nanoflex tr 2.0 vs adidas trainer v
Thank you very much!
Nanoflex 2.0!
can you suggest shoe for lifting and for somewhat casual wear .
Haze Trainer, TriBase Reign 6, and CXT-1 Trainer all work well, imo!
Nike Free Metcon 5 can be great if you don't need the most stability.
Hey Jake,
I'm having a bit of a dilemma and could really use your advice.

Topo Athletic ST-5!
A thumbs up just for your time efficiency tip at the beginning of video ❤
Ayy, I hate wasting my time and I'm glad I can save you time with my content, too! Thank you
RADs are tremendously good for crossfit. So far my fav. I've had the Haze Trainers and loved them too, but I didn't think they lasted as long as other shoes.
Feels! Wish the RAD were a smidge wider, tho
Honestly, all of those models will work great. I'd cop the pair that works best appearance/price wise for you!

Ayyy love to hear it!
Hi, this video was really informative but I’m still a bit lost in regard to deciding on a pair to buy so I was wondering if you could give me some specific recommendations.
I run a couple of times a week (about 2-3 miles)
may use the shoes for walking/daily use
I weight lift at the gym multiple days a week (about 6 months)
I also supinate to some extent
Thankyou!!!
Hey - Thank you for checking out the video! Totally understandable. As you wear more models it actually get easier to navigate the overwhelming amount of options out there.
My top two recs would be:
-Reebok Nano X3
-RAD ONE
RAD ONE will be a little more expensive, but they're super solid if you don't mind the price and navigating the smaller drops!
I usually only run a mile on the treadmill and spend the next 2 hours lifitng, would the dropset 2s be good? Those are the ones I'm looking at buying.
They’d be fine if you’re a forefoot/midfoot runner!
hi jake, which one is best for burpee jump?
Born Primitive Savage 1, Reebok Nano X3, or UA TriBase Reign 5 would be solid!
Any thoughts on best trainers for arch support?
Inov-8 F-Lite G 300, Adidas Dropset Trainer 2, and Nike Free Metcon 5 can be good option to experiment with!
I have the reebok nano 2.0 and the toe box is perfect for my foot, how would you compare the toe box of the savage 1 to the reebook 2.0?
Similar! Think you'd love them, imo!
Thank you so much for existiiiing! I rely on you in terms of getting new shoes especially that I now workout. Thank you! 🎉🫶🏻✨
Let’s gooo! Love hearing that. And thank you as well
What shoes have a 4mm heel drop? Looking for a new shoe coming from Reebok nano x
I’d look into the new Born Primitive Savage 1!
What shoe you can recommend for calisthenics
Most shoes will work plenty fine for those needs! I wouldn't stress that too much and go with an option that has a colorway/price that aligns with your needs.
How would you compare the rad ones width to the metcons 7? The 7 I own now and find them really comfortable In width I just bought the 8’s and there super narrow for my feet
The RAD would likely feel closer to the 8, imo!
From the under armour and adidas pair for gym what should I chose as a beginner working mostly on weightlifting with a little cardio
Either or should be fine! I wouldn't stress that too much. As a beginner, you'll also learn what you like more so as you go!
Rad One Or x3 adventure ? CrossFit/functional training garage and gym ?
RAD ONE if you can grab a pair!
Hi Jake did you find that the Altra Solstice XT2 true to size? Thanks!
I did, but note, sizing can sometimes be a little diff for men/women depending on the company's last construction. TTS is a safe call, tho, I feel.
What shoe is that blurred out in the thumbnail???
RAD ONE
Hey man. I want to let you know you have a really cool channel. I'm really into this sneaker videos.
Ay, thank you and thanks for giving the channel a chance!
Please share a video of training shoes for plantar faciitis people. I couldn’t find one for this problem.
It's on my to-do. I want to bring a DPT friend in for that one so they can talk about PF and also working on it.

Thank you!
I'd go Nano X3! Will give you more support for lifting/bodyweight. Cloud X 3 may be too plush for this context, imo
is dropset 2 better than dropset 1?
I think so! Some do like the 1 better but I think it’s a smaller pop that feels that way!
i got dropset 1 at a 50% discount 😀@@thatfitfriend
What do you think about nano x4 ?
Have a lot of content on them :)
Reebok nano or altra solstice- which is more wide in toe box? Altra?
Altra, buttttt that model is sub-par for heavy training/CrossFit. If the latter are in your performance asks then the Nano 2.0 or BP Savage 1 would be good options!
I'm really liking my dropset trainer 2's, still waiting on my free metcon 5's to arrive.
Love hearing it!
Can you still get the Altra Solstice XT 2? I thought it was discontinued.
May be, but there are still a lot of sizes left so I kept em in for this year!
Great Greattt Really Greattttttt work dude keep this up

Have you tried the wide version of the Tyr CXT-1 trainers yet? If so, how do they fair? I have a wide foot and have been debating those since they have a wide fit now. I’ve been rocking the BP Savage 1s, Hazes, and RAD 1s for a while.
I legit just ordered a pair this week! Picked up a new pair of these, haze, and rad for a video next week.
Stay tuned on sizing analysis!
Great overview

Hi Jake, thanks for the video and all your work. Can you tell me why you didn't pick any barefoot shoes?
Different types of shoes. Barefoot shoes =/= cross-training shoes!
I’ll have a nest barefoot shoes video coming out eventually with a CrossFit section.
Very happy with my dropset 2's, the stability and grip is nuts.
Ayy! Stoked you like em'. Those are some of the main reasons I like mine, too!
Hi from Ireland Jake. Love the video but still not sure could you maybe offer an opinion?
Weight train 3 times a week currently (trying to add in more around the kids!) I was looking at UA PR6 Nano x3 or Metcons, I’ve to buy online as my shops are useless so trying to make sure I am confident in my decision 😂 I’ll add in small amount of cardio just for lung health nothing major
Thanks!
Hey! I would opt for the Nano X3 over the PR 6 or latest Metcons. PR 6 can feel heavy and clunky and the Metcons are "meh" for cardio.
Hope that helps!
Still rocking my inov8 f-lite 260v2 you recommended
Let's freakin' go! Such a solid model

Really didn’t like nano x3. I have nano 9 and I love that way more. X3 is super narrow. No good for wide toe box. Felt really uncomfortable
Yeah, the X3/X4 have gone narrower sadly. It's such a bummer for the shoe line.

@@thatfitfriend thank you for your reply
really great overview. it’s very thorough. i currently use the Xero 350 for the gym and running 🏃♂️. i find it to be most good. however, some downsides. while the top of the toe box is very durable, the front of the toe box is pretty crappy. not to mention, the back of the heel is pretty crappy too. for weightlifting 🏋️♀️, it was initially more difficult to get under the bar while doing clean & jerk or snatch, but the body adapted to it. it not so good at agility workouts. it’s also not so good at functional. pulling and pushing sleds always feel it’s gonna come off. it’s pretty crap on a mtn bike with flat pedals. The pedals digs into the feet will pedaling. it’s truly awful going of jumps and dropouts. it’s more ok’ish on a spin bike. overall, I really like it for the gym and running 🏃♀️.
I liked metcon but the problem is that it's v narrow
New Metcon 9 is wider!
i just discovered this channel and im not buying any shoes again EVER before seeing them here

😂😂 need to hire sloths then
Hi Jake - Love your content.
The best is Reebok Nano X3 Adventure
Good shoe, just super niche for a round-up
All my trainers are in this video and I got because of your reviews
Haze Trainer, Rad One, X3, and Ballistic Trainer Mid
All great for different reasons
If I had to pick one it would be the Rad One, I just wish it was a little wider, but not too bad with loosened laces at the mid foot
Maybe in the RAD Two one day
Awesome vid Jake as always
Makes my day hearing that! Feel you. If RAD came out with a wider option or more anatomical toe box we'd be cooking with gas!
Wish dropset 2 had more colors
the metcon turbo 2 dont make any top 3?
Eh. There's so niche and the drop-in mindsole can be super hit or miss. Doesn't mean they're a bad shoe, but not a top 3 for these cats, imo!
Cool
No u cool
How about a women’s stability shoe for women for aerobics/ training
No one has a great sneaker anymore
Bring back the Nike cross’s trainers from the early 90s
Total junk today- I’ve tried most of the overpriced sneakers--- not everyone runs- the companies haven’t figured that out yet
I agree!
If you like Nike and want a budget option, give the Flex Control 4 a try. I've been enjoying those a lot! The RAD ONE could also be worth exploring if you're down to spend a bit more.
@ are they good for over pronators- stability? Thanks!!
@@jeannetteryals6180 They should! Have a bit of arch to them. The Nike Free Metcon 5 would be a more premium option to explore. May be able to find them on sale, too!
