#KnivesOut Игры
Daniel Craig looked like he was having more fun here than the entirety of Spectre. That southern drawl is beyond hammy
XD I loved Daniel Craig using that southern fried accent. He is two steps shy of being in a KFC commercial.
If Hercule Poirot sounded like Foghorn Leghorn.
I was hoping after the spoiler card Bob would just go, "So the butler did it."
Ssssssss......
Seriously, this movie's crazy-good! It's like if Agatha Christie wrote Arrested Development
ECL28E That sentence makes me want to see it even more now.
I haven't seen Arrested Development but I like Agatha Christie anything so...yeah, I'll see it.
@@katherinealvarez9216 I highly recommend it (Arrested Development. The first three seasons, at least) It's available on Netflix and it's a laugh-and-a-half!
Perfect description!
The great twist in this movie is the fact that the killer is the most obvious possible choice. So obvious that I never once suspected him. Because it was like, "No, it can't be him. He's the biggest douchebag in the room, that'd be TOO obvious."
I loved it, especially with Daniel Craig and Chris Evans chewing so much scenery.
Just got out of the movie myself. I was expecting more of a traditional whodunit, and that’s not quite what I got. The film is less about solving the crime than it is about dealing with the fallout of the crime.
Edit: Still, I had a lot of fun with it. It’s nice seeing an ensemble cast ham it up with characters like this.
Chris Wood I love a good ensemble picture. Man what a fun time.
I would've loved more scenery in this movie, but by the time the actors were done chewing it there was none left.
So basically a movie version of Columbo? sounds cool
I caught it immediately in the theater. "Ooh... they're doing the Columbo thing!"
That's what I thought! I loved watching Columbo so much.
Southern James Bond versus Evil Captain America. Story... summarized!
Fucking spoiler idiot
Knives Out is so, so good! I went into the theater in a mildly bad mood, but once the movie got going my mood brightened because I was having so much fun! I won't say much, because it would be a crime to spoil any of the film, but the swerve the movie made knocked my socks off! And I have to say Chris Evens was fantastic! I was expecting to see Cap whenever he was onscreen, but the way Evens played Ransom made me forget all about Captain America.
See this movie!
I have no idea how they would do it, but Benoit Blanc and Brannaugh's Poirot need a team up movie
The movie is good? Jeeze spoilers...
It's a movie?! Jeeze, spoilers man!
Speaking of seeing things just because an actor is in it, I'll watch anything with Don Johnson in it. Seriously underated actor.
The more I think about this movie, the better it becomes in my mind. It's easily my favorite movie this year.
Yes. Better than Endgame.
I went back and forth about the two and Endgame is a truly special experience but this is the better movie
Saw it last night, I liked it alot
Same, very funny
After all that, with very little negative criticism, and you end up with only 7 out of 10?
Sounds like this movie does a take on the Hitchcock bomb under the table idea.
I saw it last night. I liked it. However, I think there is a tipping point in making characters likeable; where doing too much goes to actually making them unlikable. I'm not saying that the film quite gets as far as there with Ana de Armas, but it definitely feels like we don't reach that point as a matter of physical restraint than of organic limitations. The family themselves are awesome, and I don't think there has yet been a more clear representation of modern photo-typical America to date.
Go check it out, if only because more movies like this should exist.
It's lowkey fascinating that the concept of "so good it's bad" keeps coming up in media criticism of late.
I'd never really thought on it before, but now I can't stop thinking on it.
@@jessielefey Not really what I was saying. It's not about "good" or "bad", although I'd say this film is good.
It's just that when you have a character that is _too_ groomed, you can go beyond establishing empathy and actually make them feel dissociative.
Sounds like a movie of "the westing house". I used to really love that book.
Paused and came back after watching the movie. Glad I did, no major spoilers but it was better going in more blank about it. Loved it and my short description would be "Agatha Christie merged with a 40s noir but funny"
So Daniel Craig's channeling Culumbo? I could get on board with this.
Just saw this and enjoyed it. The best summary I can give is that Daniel Craig is a noir detective stuck in a cozy mystery.
I loved it. It's very 'Rian Johnson'. His knowledge of genre and film really shine. Sometimes it's clever twisting of conventions, sometimes it's framing a shot in a corny referential way (like when a characters face is blacked out by the blinds, except for a bar of light across her eyes). There's often a clumsy touch to it, like he's an over-zealous film school student wanting to show off every trick he knows (though that's less of the case here compared to Looper or Brick), but it comes across as earnest enough in its passion for film history. It gives me the feeling there's many little touches in there I'm not even picking up on. Can't wait to see which genre Johnson takes on next.
In an odd way, Knives Out gave me a similar feeling to 2013's American Hustle. Fun end of year genre flick with a massive A class cast, and everyone just seems really happy to be on set with a touch of hammy acting. It's weird how you can get an idea of the set atmosphere from the final cut. I think it could have been cut down by 20-30 minutes to keep the momentum of the mystery moving, but it was good fun regardless.
Hey. Bob. You're my favorite white Nerd Critic.
Putting in my like and my comment for the RUclips engagement algorithms but I don't want more spoilers beyond "it's good" so...yep. Can't wait for it.
Thank you, it’s good, I’ll watch it.
While having not seen the movie yet, the description makes it sound as if the movie is structured like a variation on the Columbo mystery format. So, I am definitely going to see it.
For those of you who enjoy whodunnit stories: it starts as Columbo, the middle stretch is more like Miss Fischer or Shetland, and the finale is one big "Sherlock Holmes classic"
hey thanks for the quick recommend at the beginning. I'll revisit after I've watched the movie.
Hey do a video about Netflix canceling mst3k.
Thank you very much for the warning, I will come back and watch the rest of the video next week!
i don't think the vomit thing had to do with her being latina. the way i interpreted it probably had to do with some kind of childhood trauma. either way it seemed to me like a very fun character quirk and definitely not a problem with the movie like you say.
Hey! Post credits are back! I love them
Just saw the movie last night. I agree, nothing's perfect, but I really haven't seen such a good whodunnit like this since probably Agatha Christie herself. Johnson really built a satisfying mystery, where I felt every detail really did come together and paid off nicely. Many movies that bring together such a cast tend to fail or disappoint, but like the original "Murder on the Orient Express", Rian not only got himself the name cast, but managed them incredibly well. Oh, and the movie was extremely entertaining, both funny and intriguing.
What's the music?
Just muted this video and let it play in the background until I see the movie. Thanks for the review, Bob!
Chris Pratt did it
Daniel Craig doing a Southern accent was something I never knew I'd end up enjoying.
You should see Logan Lucky.
@@oscarmccormack1611 I have. He was good in that, too.
yoooo I was waiting for this! saw it before the review but I loved it regardless.
This is not even merch, it just turns you in to a walking ad.
Like looper, did not like last Jedi but looks like this is good so with you and Mark Kermode both giving it the thumbs up I'll throw some of my british pounds at it 🙃 cheers for the spoiler free opening, ill be back later.
I've enjoyed all of Rian's work, including The Last Jedi. I'll definitely have to see this.
I am in the same camp. You will not be disappointed.
one thing, Craig is def doing a southern drawl, but it is by no means his Logan Lucky accent. there are a variety of "southern" accents (and tho I can hear the difference, I'm not good enough to know the name of the region just from listening)
Nice tees! Got one for girls, maybe with cap sleeves?
"Because everyone who's not an asshole has been rooting for Rian Johnson"
* Sigh *
Mark Chapman You can not like The Last Jedi but still be rooting for Rian Johnson to make good movies. It is only mutually exclusive to the weirdos whose hate of TLJ has mutated into some kind of personally-defining lifestyle.
I'm not sure why we're supposed to be rooting for him either. I've seen one of his movies and it sucked. Now I've seen a lot of bad movies and I don't hold a grudge against their directors, but Rian Johnson was pretty much an asshole himself when it came to dealing with the response to TLJ.
@@ressljs ... How?! He constantly talks about how great Star Wars and Star Wars fans are, often states that the more toxic assholes who bombard his Twitter every minutes of every day are just a vocal minority, and on the rare occasion he does talk back to one of the assholes who literally tell him to commit suicide, he does so in as civilized and respectful a way as possible. How exactly was he wrong in dealing with people's bull shit? If anything he demonstrates every single day with his kindness and continued love for Star Wars fans that he gets Star Wars better than his detractors do.
Well.... it's true.
@@besfpolycule8710 "and on the rare occasion he does talk back to one of the assholes who literally tell him to commit suicide, he does so in as civilized and respectful a way as possible. How exactly was he wrong in dealing with people's bull shit?"
This is not true at all. Yes, he gets a lot of unfounded abuse online, but the guy also constantly quote tweets and mocks people for politely pointing out things that don't make sense about his movie. Literally just google "Rian Johnson tweets" and you'll get a dozen examples.
Huh, sounds fun!
Just got back from seeing this and I really enjoyed it!
Started watching the review... stopped and waited until i saw the movie to watch the rest and glad I did.
Spoiler for anyone who look’s looking: I’m pretty sure Gordon-Levitt is the detective on whatever show Marta’s sister is watching on the kitchen counter.
Well, that explains why I didn't see him in the movie, but he's in the credits.
Loved the little Star Wars drop in there. can't wait to see this one.
I didn't see this until recently, but Bob is 100% correct. Movie is good and DO NOT LOOK AT ANYTHING ELSE. Just go a long for the ride.
If you need any other sell: Foul-Mouthed Captain America.
Trigger Warning for 4:43
Dam!t Bob!! You gave me a clue and ruined the whole thing for me.
Hey Bob, please change the theme music. It’s kinda generic and boring. I know you couldn’t use the old one anymore, but get something better.
Other than that, love your work!
I really wanted to love this movie, but it was ultimately like watching a child driving a Ferrari smashing it off of wall after wall.
You disappoint me in never reviewing The Lighthouse.
I'm sure he's crushed by your withering judgment.
@@abc8722 That wasn't meant to be taken literally, but in fairness I can see why you did.
I'm not good with horror or jump scares even things like a knife nearly hitting someone and the camera turning last minute can make me feel kinda sick. Some of the footage in this make me worried about that for this one.
No spoliers obvs for the sake of the comments section but can anyone give me an idea of how much jump scaring/ people in danger is in this one?
Ryan Johnson subverted my expectations by making a movie I actually like a lot.
I wish I had more than one upvote to give this.
So funny. I mean I only heard this joke for the thousandth time, with zero change, but it's still so funny. How original you are.
Bob the missing word is comedy. Knives Out is a Comedy.
Captain America a bad guy? NOOOOOOO!
I just went to wikipedia to lookup Knifes Out. It can be spoiled there. Saved myself the price of a ticket.
This movie is smart and a great time, regardless of knowing the ending. Jeeze
Plot synopses tend to do that.
jailhouse rock
Johnson does better with original work
As someone who really liked TLJ, I agree with this.
@@katherinealvarez9216 as someone who HATED TLJ I think he should stick to these types of projects
I enjoyed Episode VIII, and I thought this was even better. I didn't really like Looper though.
@@cometmoon4485 What about TLJ did you like?

Way beyond 7. A 9.
i didn't like The Last Jedi... and that makes me an asshole? dude... sorry but that movie was objective shit with a TON of issues. you're the one who taught me when you can remove entire chunks of the movie without changing the movie it means that section was useless and shouldn't have been in there to begin with. you can remove over 40 minutes of Last Jedi without changing anything. that's just the START of the problems with that movie.
I've been a subscriber to you for 5-6 years now, but being directly called an asshole because I didn't like a problematic movie is my end point. I wish you well moviebob, but I can't support your efforts any longer.
The only site that worked is *dantasguides* so maybe you want to give it a try.
Incoming "I hate Rian Johnson" whiners.
Look at bob still shilling his heart out for Last Jedi. Give it a rest. It’s over, and that particular scene was one of the worse in the movie.
I think we just need to stop talking about it altogether. Both sides (especially the haters) have been worse than vegans in mentioning their opinions.
I just want to have fun discussions about Star Wars again!!!
That's whats depressing. Knives Out is probably one of my top 10 movies this year....and it was made by the guy who made my least liked Star Wars film.
Johnson has been making amazing films for as long as he has been directing. Brick and Looper are both master crafted examples of their genres. But he was a dire total mismatch for a mainline Star Wars film and should have made Rogue One instead.
@@aa-id7li I liked Looper until it went Terminator halfway through. But yeah, the man has skill-just not compatibility with some things necessarily.
Early
I feel like Ryan made much better comedy this time around compared to his last movie.
Rian
@@paulmartin591 my bad. English is second language and I didn't double check the spelling of his name
I was only saying because it’s a weird spelling. All good!
@@paulmartin591 no, you're right. It's on my. I actually omitted his last name because I wasn't able to check the spelling =]
1st. But on a serious note your videos are brilliant!
Yeah... Last Jedi was definitely... special.
You will like or hate this movie based solely on how much you like or hate rian johnson.
Might I suggest . . . books.
I get it. Bob liked TLJ. But he doesn’t need to bring it up every other review(exaggerating).
My mom is one of those "mystical nurturing Latina women stereotypes" that you mentioned and all I got were sandals thrown at me. If the character was an angry Latina woman she'd also be a negative stereotype to you. You can't be happy.
God, you just HAD to put a little dig in their against people who didn’t like The Last Jedi didn’t you? I feel like as a movie reviewer you ought to understand that not liking a movie doesn’t make someone a bad person. Anyway, awesome movie, definitely go see it everyone, even if you didn’t like TLJ! Subverting expectations is a very good thing in a whodunnit movie
This was way better than Logan Lucky beacuse unlike that movie i din’t the main characters were a bunch of criminals who got way shot free but aren't att all carming enough to make that ending work😡
I actually felt sorry for the guy they robbed in that movie.
If you have you a crimmal doing bad things in a movie for purely menoytary reasons you have too be Tom Hanks as Goldthwaite Higginson Dorr, Ph.D.,-level charming to make me still route for you 😠
"This Rian Johnson movie is good."
Sure buddy. Like I'm falling for that one again.
I didn't like TLJ either(that one scene Bob showed HURT), but honestly, it was a very good movie.
@@JnEricsonx How? Was it the tensionless boring action scenes? The constant stream of terrible jokes? Finn's beat for beat retread of his character arc from 7? Poe's nonsensical incomplete character arc? Or the part where Rey disappears from the movie as soon as she's interesting?
@@LoganLS0 No I meant that Knives Out was very good.
@@JnEricsonx I'll take your word for it.
Why are you still so radical biast with Rian Johnson? This movie was great. Episode 8 wasn't. Not every director is good at everything. I don't get why an otherwise exceptionally good film critic like you always became so defensiv if even the sligthest point of politics is involved.
I'm not defensiv, you are!
@@HereComesPopoBawa I'm just annoyed to be honest. I want my pre-Trump non political biased Bob back or at least the version that doesn't showe his political statement in your face. Maybe its because I'm european and not personally involved in your overseas politics but I watch him for his good reviews and not because he has clever things to say about politics. just my opinion as a fan.
@@LuziFearon That was a needlessly long way to say "stop saying opinions I don't like" but ok.
@@RoguSpanish Quiet the opposite I might say, as I stated I value his opinion for movies very high and even if I don't agree with every review, I can see his point usually. But not when he thinks something has policital value. And thats called constructive critic so stop projecting something else into my words. Look at what I wrote not what you want me to say, I have no stakes in american society, I only care for the quality of his reviews.
@@LuziFearon Well seeing as how he never actually said anything "political" in this video and you are complaining about politics...yep, I was completely accurate in my assessment. This isn't about "politics", it can't be, there were no politics, therefore you just don't want him to say stuff you don't agree with. Unless you wanna explain to me how being a fan of Rian Johnson's movies and calling out butthurt Star Wars fanbabies for the whiny little bitch boys that they are is somehow a political stance?
This is the last chance I’m giving Movie Bob.
Edit: good.
Referencing Last Jedi as a positive for this film? Really? Well whatever, I only really like these sorts of things for the mystery so if it just tells you who did it then I'm not interested.
Did you never watch Columbo? The fun of that series was seeing how Columbo would outsmart the murderer leaning up to the big “just one more thing”.
If you like a mystery don’t dismiss this movie just yet, the movie just presents it in an interesting way.
@@GaiashKetoji Yeah I've actually got the entire series on DVD. I suppose it could work. I don't remember if the film is out here yet but I might give it a try.
Will not give money to dude who ruined Star Wars.
This isn't a George Lucas movie.
Ahhh, another horrible take from Bob.
It's going to be a good week fellas.
You got any proof to backup your claims?
@@anthonyrobles4127 Anybody who claims that anyone who doesn't like/support Rian Johnson is an asshole, is already on an uphill battle for the majority of people.
@@TheDisturbedDemons "Majority of people" good one
@@TheDisturbedDemons wait, aren't you that person who was giving Jenny Nicholson crap because she didn't care for the Joker movie?
I'm gonna go out on a limb and just say he verbally fellates Ruin and says the movie is amazing and the perfect response to TLJ haters. I'm not even gonna bother watching to confirm my prediction.
Literally none of that happens, and the fact that you said any of those words proves that your opinion isn't worth listening too.
Oh, it's a Rian Johnson movie... thanks for the warning.
That makes it a must-see really
What, you didn't like Brick, The Brothers Bloom, Looper, or the best episodes of Breaking Bad?
I will never forgive Rian.
I didn't like TLJ's direction either, but still I cannot bring myself to say it was worse than Attack of the Clones.
