In our never ending quest to find cooperation wherever we go, the two of us are always on the hunt for games that encourage co-op. Benefits with Friends is our answer to the games that won't let you play together without working for it. In this series our goal will be to see if bringing a friend along makes or breaks a game. What we're most excited about is that it gives us the opportunity to revisit games like RimWorld, and hopefully find out whether RimWorld with Friends has it's Benefits.

Just turning games into multiplayer instead of finding coop is such a great idea
It’s a lot harder then most people think, most games have to be completely reconstructed from the ground up in order to get good multiplayer going in it. Thankfully tho people have been crafting multiplayer injectors that just make the whole process easier

Eyyy, so cool to hear you both are checking out some multiplayer mods now! With how much you both really enjoyed Slime Rancher, I would like to mention again just how fun and revitalizing it was for me to player the Slime Rancher Multiplayer mod (SRMP). Hope to see how much you both enjoy it as well!
Wierd thing with Rimworld is that there are multiple multiplayer mods, one is a CO-OP like style as if it were LAN where you are all in the same colony (Also I think you can designate certain pawns to be under your control only? Don't quote me on that)
Then there's another Multiplayer Mod which lets you have multiple player controlled colony's that can interact and what not (very neat)
Ah I don't know what mod, but there was a mod I'm pretty sure that allowed you to set up certain work policy's to be used at certain times during the day, so you can have colonists work on different things through-out the day.

Idk if it's a seperate mod, but u can have two separate colonies as well. With 8 people, u can just have 4 different colonies where a pair work in each of them
Yeah it's the same mod. You just need to send a caravan with half the people once you land. You can use dev mode to speed up the caravan, then you can be neighbors! Fun to watch each others map squares

Absolutely. While you can technically play Souls games together through summoning, the Seamless Coop mod for Elden Ring is so much better.

I am so insanely excited for this series it looks like so much fun!
I like the idea of using the RimWorld multiplayer mod to do an 8-player or so Hardcore run (no recruiting new colonists), assuming there's a content creator with that many friends who will follow the rules, similar to the group Minecraft hardcore playthroughs that are around, but much more likely to die eventually, more of an endurance test really. Or maybe a 'semi-competitive' game where two teams have one half of the map and have to deal with what happens there, though you'd probably want another mod to halve the raid sizes in that case.

One thing fun, me and my friend do. Is try making a colony but each of your pawns has its zone set to half the map, so each of you has "your own" colony but it's the same map and restricted areas set the border. Then you can play with each other, all while having your colonists do the task you assigned. Idk an idea

From one gamer couple to another: You two *NEED* to try Morrowind Multiplayer if you haven't already. Me and my Fiance have had a RIOT running around Vvardenfell together, causing all sorts of mischief as she gets absolutely CLOBBERED on Skooma and I'm forced to trek behind her as she breaks the game at Mach 12.
You 2 should have a Phogs Date Night, pretty awesome game to play together (Day 9 of asking).
I think this would be a lot cooler if each person had their own individual group of people except you work together with your individual groups.

I still wish the imperial guard mods didn't die.
My favorite biome is boreal forest in the mountains. The short growing season makes the first winter pretty intense, but I love having my frozen mountain fortress with greenhouses and hydroponics to keep my little pawns going.
Always glad to see this game getting more love and love the husky army.

It's been 2 months so you'd likely not see this, but.
There's another version of the Multiplayer mod called "Rimworld Together", that allows you to play at your own settlement (Yes, you can still visit eachother).
The problem with Rimworld Multiplayer mod is that it isn't compatible with most mods. And when somebody asks me how many mods I usually use, I don't let this person finish its sentence and just answer "YES"

I wonder if there would be a setting so one person can control a single pawn, and take the Colonist building aspect into a whole new level. Now you're really part of a community.
Revisiting slime rancher but with multiplayer would be really cool! Subnautica too :)
a good way to play "coop" rimworld is by starting with double the pawns/characters and splitting the map in half with the allowed areas so your pawns stick to your side and theirs to their side or maybe make some communal areas to have your split colonies mix, and in case of events and emergencies you can help each other still
Day one of asking for a Rain World date night (of which does have coop but I’m pretty sure only in the dlc or maybe a mod)
It’s so weird seeing people genuinely enjoying this game without 200+ QoL mods and the dlcs
Y'all should try Skyrim Together (a multiplayer mod for Skyrim)
The open world mod is also great to “play” with friends
for animals that listen and follow rules see excessively trained advanced animals like dogs and polar bears you can set an allowed area in the newest versions of rimworld anything past 1.1 1.2 you should look into building a nice barn the animals can use the new animal flap to enter and exit a the barn as they like making ideaologies that revere farming into a much more viable play through now making that legendary "This world is mine" run far more fun or with the right mods i guess you could open a jarassic park on the rim just watch out for those solar flares pretty sure that was the original storyline for the original movie 😀 but honestly with the number of mods for r
Rimworld you can turn the game into just about anything you feel like from a mad scientist out to destroy the world with home made nuclear weapons launched ICBM style to a bunch of wayfairing wizards trying to keep the rims population of demons down to superhuman psycasters with a more indepth way of learning psycasting and meditation happening on the go to building a colony off the rails by setting up a few simple things a mobile research pack and setup camp creates caravan camping spots that are small explorable / able to be ran around in and built in not to mention vehicles are now a thing on the rim and i dont mean SRTS i mean full on vehicles that can be driven tile to tile and used as a caravan not to mention they will use the vehicles for long range trips on the same map so yeah make the rim your home with a few mods it may not seem like it at first but kids are a heck of a super soldier program XD
with good use of zones you can build colonies together on the same map.

For the navigation people, you could just have him navigate his person, you navigate yours, and assign other colonists to one of you. Instead of having both of you trying to navigate all of them

People still can play on diferent parts of the world map and sent resources trough drop pods
This is why I like building robots and mods that let me build robots, so i can get them to haul and clean while my colonists build and such. Or vice versa if the robots are better than the colonists.
Hey just letting you know you can create a custom scenario and add more pawns
Or even build additional settlements
would it work to make a seperate colony? so each would have their own maybe next to each other so you can quickly send each other resources, fighters etc?
i love rimworld, i play with my bf, he takes care of building and defenses and i take care of pawns
