@@teebob21 Given the fact that Smurf and Adam often brainstorm things together and Adam praises Smurf often on streams, I doubt its possible to say who comes to the some idea first.
The idea of having a pawn after taking lethal damage, desperately crawling on the floor while bleeding everywhere hoping to reach safety and yet still respecting door policies is hilarious
6k+ hours here. I've used all of these techniques to great effect, but I still learned an extra trick or two in almost every segment. Shooting through a hallway to kill the ship chunk was particularly good, and that fort you built for the ambush segment looked absolutely sick. Excellent video and I'll definitely be checking out the rest.
I hadn't thought of this 180° FOV door peek technique. This is amazing. Best way for a solo pawn to defend against many many threats, without using too much juggling and killboxes.
Love your guide. Been thinking of making one myself because there seemed to be a void where combat is concerned. Heard about you while watching adam and have been enjoying your content greatly. High quality video. Keep it up 🎉
This is a great video! Just earned a sub. It's easy to understand, straight to the point, entertaining, and these are some legit strategies. Keep it up!
I've looked for this kinda depth tutorial content for RimWorld for so long - thank you. I'm gonna name my current psycast/melee nerd "Mortal Smurph" in your honor. He's a cannibal 🌈🍖
Thanks to your latest playwright I knew the Fog Of War plus Improved AI mod and started to play like that for all my games, I also tend to play really hard mod combinations and sometimes I lose control of the situation, so I really loved this video, really helpful!
I heavily rely on kiting when playing a pollution heavy map with pollution stimulus rimworlders. That +20% move speed basically gives my whole colony fast running perk and I can just pot shot over and over again through the whole map.
Fantastic stuff Smurph. I definitely didn't know about the stagger bit. Just as an aside, will you ever do a weapons guide? There exist some around but none are math and tactical heavy like your stuff.
You should look into the chair peek mechanics I keep hearing about. Something about chairs changes combat some how or so I hear but I can't find a good resource on what is exactly happening or how to make it work.
What is unclear about the demonstration in the video? What is there to look into? As shown 1 minute into the video, a colonist can lean on an adjacent stool to have an alternate angle shot in the same way they could lean against a wall in front of them.
It's low-key annoying that we can never have long lasting long range battles since they always rush you. It would be cool if it would be like real battles that last longer but they keep their distance.
Well, I always using ambush technique when I only have melee folks in early game, also abusing line of sight to repeatedly pepper centipede with emp slug is fun.
Does the held-open door still cause ballooning if you have something to cause collision before the enemies reach your colonists, such as an unpowered turret?
You can use kitting on thrumbos very funny If you are finished with your base, you can Double wall then have an outer single wall to buy time for breaches in large colonies etc
What weapon are you using and what door material? Some doors fire too slowly for some doors. Try it with something like an autopistol in a stone door first. Then work towards slower weapons and faster doors.
@@MortalSmurph this playthrough is early on so I only have bolt action rifles and wooden doors. Do I have it right: you tell a pawn to move into the doorway, then draft/undraft when the door opens but before they move into the doorway?
I really dislike using most of these 'cheese' tacitcs / mechanics. While it's perfectly legal as a singleplayer to do so, it just feels wrong to do imho. If all your doing is tricking the AI to avoid taking damage because the AI mechanics are dumb, are you really playing the game or just tricking yourself into thinking you're playing a game on high difficulty? That's not really strategy, it's really just AI exploitation. Why not just play on a lower difficulty where you won't need to do any of these shenanigans to survive and just have them have interesting shootouts instead? That said, of course everyone should play as they want. If this gives you joy, more power to you. I just think we often think of ourselves as better merely for playing on a higher difficulty but then debase our experiences with AI exploitation that it trivializes the difficulty increase. Lastly this is a very good video that shows all the abilities you can use in a situation. Your videos are very well made and have high quality. Well done mate! New sub and like for you :) hope your channel grows!
@@lucapagano3685 you also need skill to type shit on a keyboard. Still doesn't make you a piano player. This doesn't work in reality. People play with mods and even if they didn't, your base layout wouldn't be like this otherwise you wouldn't be able to win the final battle
@@MortalSmurph since you get raided every 6 days with cassandra and the raiders destroy everything outside and set fire to your crops, could you do number 1? Much better to peek around your door and shoot with the shotgun, then fall back inside. By the time you have multiple colonists with guns, your wealth would be too high and raids too strong for your strategy to work. Double wall is such a good plan.
For the double wall tech you could also have a few random walls outside the base with roofs. They may att the wall and have a roof fall on them
