Gaming on the PS1 from 1996-2000 was for me the height of video games. It was the Golden Age of gaming. The mount rushmore of PS 1 (FF7, Resident Evil 1-3, Metal Gear Solid, Tomb Raider 1- 3, and Tekken 3) There are so many games just outside of the top 5 that are too many to mention (Parasite Eve, Tony Hawk, Crash Bandicoot, Castlevania, Gran Turismo, Twisted Metal 2, Bust a Groove, Time Crisis, Madden, Grand Theft Auto, FF Tactics, Tenchu, Vagrant Story, Xenogears, etc, etc. If you were a teenager at this time and loved video games, you probably spent hundreds of hours of gaming on these games alone.
If I'm not mistaken, Tekken 3 was the very first Tekken game I've ever played. I don't remember much about it, except two endings. @@Kickinthescience Tekken 5 intro isn’t as Iconic because its a newer title and not as popular as Tekken 3. Plus take into consideration that graphical leap it made the series (games in general). Doesn’t make the tekken 5 intro any less great obviously. Its my favorite one.
This is the game that got Tekken on the map, going from very solid and fun in the first two entries into one of the biggest fighting franchises of all time. This is one of my favorite games of all time and is still fantastic to play today.
Tekken 1 and 2 were already the best selling fighting games on Playstation. It was already on the map unless you were tunnel visioned to Japan and the dying Arcade industry.
Jin’s theme in this game will forever be my most favorite track that identifies the character. And that freaking mocap opening man, that beat just sticks in your head.
I spent countless, and I mean countless hours playing this as a kid with my brother and uncle. It's the game that's responsible for my love of fighting games. It's been a long time since I played a Tekken game though, looking forward to getting back into them with Tekken eight!
@@nehemiahpouncey3607 Ogre was absorbing Heihachi's Life/Fighting force to become True Ogre. Ogre essentially absorbs the fighting spirit of people and let's just say Heihachi has ALOT of that, so it was enough for Ogre to transform.
Tekken 3 was a game changer, it introduced 3 dimensional side step as well as quick roll, spring up roll attack, quicker ground attack moves, and more emphasis on counters and juggling.
In high school, there was a videogame club. There was Mortal Kombat 9, X and 11, Smash Bros Brawl, Call of Duty, Naruto Storm and a Playstation Slim with a collection of games Tekken 3 included. Whenever people played Tekken 3, students there always picked Yoshimitsu or Eddie Gordo, I always picked Jin.
Eddy Gordo got me into capoeira when I was a child and I had Tekken 6 on PSP. It unironically change the course of my life in ways I'm forever grateful for
I’m always reluctant to relive the good old days by playing an old game, because it often turns out to be not as good as you remember it. Not in the case of Tekken 3, though!! It cannot be stressed enough how smooth and crisp this game is for its age!!! Yes, Tekken 2 was cool and had good vibes, but man.. Tekken 3 just _feels so good_ to play. Everything about how the characters move and respond to your controls, how they’re animated so smoothly and naturally, how they clash with each other.. You can *feel* every hit you land, and they really count as well. (Much more hp in newer games)
Tekken came into it's own with Tekken 3 and still plays great to this day, unlike Tekken 2. 1998-2000 was a great era with Tekken 3 on the PS1 and TTT in the arcades.
This video hurts to watch😢 I had this game when I was very young and the competitive scene is really cool. I even learned later that my favorite character (King) was one of, if not the most, hype characters in the game. Sadly I never ever learned how to play, never beat the game, and probably never played it with anyone else. Completely missed out when It was just within reach.
"Eddy was the reason many people learned Capoeira exists." Preach dood. I had no idea a man could fight like that with his body until tekken.....and I loved it.
My uncle used to live with us for a few years and he had a PS1. Upon introducing me to FF7, Tomb Raider, and Resident Evil, he also had Tekken 1 and 2 and I loved those. He eventually bought Tekken 3 and I remember borrowing it from him for a long time. I was never good at the game, but absolutely loved it!
I didn't have Tekken 3 as a kid sadly and wow did I miss out on a franchise that's just amazing. Despite that I first played Tekken at a friend's house and it was Tekken 5 and just hated it. It took me until very recently when I started to watch and learn Tekken 7 that I realized how good the series is
I will forever be Howarang man. This game came out when I was in highschool and he encouraged me to learn Tai Kwon do. And i really like how he was Jin's rival for a while afterwards
That's what's missing in current iterations of Tekken. There's no character specific stages and music. Tekken 2s Law, Paul and Kazuya's arranged themes still hold a special place in my heart after all these years.
Consider this. Disco was popular 20 years before Tekken 3 came out. It’s now been 27 years since Tekken 3 was released. Playing Tekken 3 is now comparable to dressing up as Tiger Jackson and hitting up a disco club in the 90s.
I think this was my first ‘favorite game.’ I remember making my grandpa take me to Toys R Us to get it, and staring at the case for the entire 30 min car ride home. I’ve put thousands of hours into it, and still play to this day. It never gets old!
Tekken 3 was 1st Tekken game I played 24 years ago. I also played Syphon Filter 1-3. Now I remember owning Resident Evil 2 & 3 and Dino Crisis in 2000. You have cool video.
It's so heartening to watch you talk about Tekken's legacy. Tekken 3 was the most played arcade game here in India, for at least a decade. Followed by only Street Fighter perhaps, which was popular before Tekken 3 came out. This game really defined so many people's childhoods, including mine. We dumped so many coins into this game, and then some. Everything about this game was perfect, the music, the vibe, the character movement, the sidestepping, the ending cutscenes, this game was truly a masterpiece. 🙌
Something I found really cool was the rivalry between Jin and Hwoarang. Me and my best friend picked a side and that became our main and created a friendly rivalry between us in Tekken that stands to this day. It all started here with Tekken 3.
I remember my cousin was going to college and he gave me his PS1 that came with Tekken 3 and at the time I was only playing Smash 64, booted up T3 and it changed by life forever. A robot samurai in a fighting game? Badass! Have always loved Tekken over any other fighting game series, this game changed many lives in the 90’s man
I never owned Tekken 3 until 2019. However, I do remember playing it at my cousins house. And I thought it was so damn cool. Jin was my favorite character just because of his design, and he is still my favorite. While he does play differently compared to his Tekken 3 and Tag Tournament counterparts, he is still fun to play now. That being said, Tekken 3 just holds up so well. It is still as fun as it was back then. Maybe more fun that it was back then. I love Tekken 3, and it will stand as my favorite fighting game on the PS1. Aside from Capcom VS SNK.
Out of the two Tekken 2 will always be my favorie just because of the vibes, the opening the music, and the fact it's the first game I've ever player. That being said, Tekken 3 is an undeniably better game and one of the best games of all time in my opinion. Revolutionary is what it was.
I genuinely love your honesty and humble perspective here. Tekken 2 was revolutionary in it’s own right. And as so many other fighting games that were big sequels, Tekken 2 was the revolutionary but Tekken 3 was the quintessential mainstream blockbuster title that really made it’s mark in the video game history. But it wouldn’t be what it was without Tekken 2. I don’t know you, but gamers like you are the most important players of these games. You were lucky enough to grow up on Tekken 2 but also love fighting games to recognize that Tekken 3 put the genre as well as the franchise on the map for the world. That being said, the fact Tekken 2 is your past and your experience makes you the OG that gave birth with others to Tekken 3. Salute and respect, brother
I agree completely. Tekken 2’s vibes, aesthetics, music and story is unmatched (except for Tekken 4) but Tekken 3 was the first game that actually felt great to play. It shed the stiffness and jank the first two games had.
Tekken 2 might play way better than 1, but Tekken 3 still plays way better than 2 also. As a person who started with 2, I get upset how much 2 is just looked over but DAMN is Tekken 3 just such top to bottom perfection. Max has a point that the cast gets less B-Tier with its extended cast too.
Tekken 2 and 3 are such an amazing progression. Where Tekken 2 laid the foundation Tekken 3 was the pinnacle of it. It's easy to understate how big a deal Tekken 2 was at the time of its release, and at the same time Tekken 3's influence and staying power now is undeniable. You can liken Tekken 2 to Street Fighter 2 and likewise liken Tekken 3 to Third Strike in that sense.
@@lightup6751 This only applies if you like the characters. I hated tekken 3 without kaz and skipped 4 -5 and 6 because i thought tekken was done beyond the tag games. Characters are not just functions.
I, to this day, can remember the opening with Hwoarang. The music, the visuals, and the gameplay, it's all spectacular. It's what got me to play tekken.
This one one of the first fighting games I played. Ogre caused many controller throws and rage quits. Man this game started my love for fighting games.
Me and my older brother were so dedicated to this game back in the day. From versus mode to tekken ball we had blast with this one and we definitely got our money's worth. The relief I felt when I finally beat tekken force to unlock the last character we needed. Good times with this one. Also I don't know how many people knew this, but if you went to the save on the memory card it would give messages and little hints as to what you needed to do in the game to unlock character and other things.
Been watching u since 2011. U taught me how crouch block in UMVC3 when I didn't know tht was even a thing in fighting games. Thank u max. Another Tekken 3 banger
I’m from 1997 so I didn’t play this on ps1, when I was in elementary I would go with my mom every week to the laundromat and they had a Tekken 3 arcade machine, I was addicted to it, the soundtrack is god tier, I would play it all the time, even playing randoms and winning (my main was Hworang btw)
I really believe one reason Eddy was so popular was that only him and Xiaoyu were playable in the demo. When I got the full game, Eddy was one of the first characters I played as because of that.
So Tekken 3 like many people was my first taste of the series and it’s the only fighting game where the first character I picked up, Julia, is the one I still play to this day. This game changed my world.
Sometimes a company wakes up and makes sliced bread. This game changed the fighting game industry and they did it once more with Tekken 5, but Tekken 3…if you were there, you experienced history. Or you were just playing a really fun fighting game and had no idea it would be known to be godlike in the future. I definitely agree an HD remaster would be excellent, it could show kids today or people who never got into Tekken what the highest plateau in a fighting game looked like. Also the best design Jin ever had as well as Yoshimitsu
So many good memories playing this game back in the PS1 days :) Me and my father actively played Team Battle to see who would be "The King of Iron Fist Tournament 3" that day. 😎
This is my first game I played when I came to the states I was like 4 or 5 years old in 98. Then as I would grow I kept on running into tekken 3 arcades because they were so popular and everywhere. My dad ended up getting me tekken tag tournament which ended up being my favorite then.
What a blast from the past , tekken 3 is my fav and just brought back so many memories, also I just found your channel and currently just finished this one In your tekken series. Can’t wait to watch tekken tag and so on, love your quality and after getting and playing 8 today ! WOW how far we have come 8 is so fun. Thanks for the content legend
Tekken 3 was my first tekken game i ever played. Used to play with my dad and older brother all the time and we had a blast. Was instantly drawn to yoshimitsu since 5 year old bunga brain said "Crazy space ninja with lightsaber? im in" and have mained him ever since. Tekken Ball and Force were stupid fun too. This turned me into the fighting game nerd i am today, thanks to my old man, and i have no regrets.
Never played Tekken 3. When PS2 launched with Tekken Tag Tournament as a launch title my friend picked it up and Tekken Tag basically became our lives for awhile and neither of us had ever played any Tekken to that point yet. Watching Max's Tekken series it's clear to me how big of a stepping stone Tekken 3 was for the series to get from Tekken 2 to one of my favorites ever, Tag Tournament. Great history lessons here Max, thank you.
Tekken 3 was my first Tekken and one of the first videogames i personaly owned as kid, ever since then i was hooked on the franchise Tekken 3 was that cool.
I have the best memories of tekken 3. I remember buying the edition with the multi cd carry case and being at work and just thinking about going home to play tekken all shift long, mates coming over and having big tekken tournaments, I was a dj at the time and I remember putting some jungle vinyl on my decks while playing tekken......good old days.
I usually do not comment on youtube. But Tekken 3 was moment you simply had to be there for. Before Smartphones, before online, you had to knock on your neighbors door and come with your controller rolled up (corded of course) sit down and burn hours of this masterpiece. If you were there and fully engaged you knew that what you were playing was magic.... I will never forget Tekken 3... I was 10, been chasing this high ever since. Hopefully Tekken 8 can capture that same magic for my son that 3 did for me all those years ago!!
My favorite Tekken game to this day. I have so many fond memories playing this with friends, and we were extremely amazed by the possibilities this game had after Tekken 2. We celebrated every move that avoided the enemies attack just to launch a counter-attack, we clowned around with Yoshi, Bosko, Xiao and Gun countless times. I remember i couldnt wait to get to my friend and play with him this masterpiece every day.
I remember my brothers trying to unlock the Doctor guy in force mode. Not sure if that's how they did it or if they used a code, but I remember he had other character's moves.
Absolutely. I adore Tekken 3. Back in the late 90s, I've never played a Tekken. I was on the Resident Evil and Final Fantasy 7 train most of the time. But I remember getting this game for my birthday in 99, and I was blown away. I've played fighting games before, but never was I this intrigued and enjoyed myself to the extent that I did playing Tekken 3. It was just a total package of style, great mechanics, and content. I still hold it up there in the top 3 Tekken games to this day.
Also the reason why the game was so popular, at least here in germany, was the demo. It featured Eddy and Xiaoyu in Versus mode and basically every toy shop had a playstation with that demo running, and a large crowd of children waiting their turn to play it.
Nothing but memories, so many good memories whenever Tekken 3 is brought up in discussion. I was introduced to video games earlier on with the NES when my father got it for his birthday from his brother but we didn't have it long. We got the PlayStation with a few games one Christmas which was unexpected. Games were Crash Bandicoot, The Game of Life and Tekken 3. The love for video games was established and the rest was history. Tekken 3 will always have a small place close to my heart because it was something that my father and I could play and bond over when I was younger. We even has a blast trying to take it to my great grandmothers house and figuring out the hook up to her old box tv later that Christmas. There, my sister, father, cousin and myself would take turns fighting each other while learning all the moves to become even better or help one another fight through to unlock each character ending. Oh boy the good ol' times.
This is the videos that I love to watch on RUclips. Knowledge, passion, good ass editing and a massive respect and love for the subject. That's why I started watching your videos dude!
I never heard of Tekken as a kid, one day after school my gma told she bought be some games from the pawn shop. I played them after my HW & one of them was Tekken 3. Tekken 8 will be day one purchase for us since my brother & I have a tradition of training with our mains & going at it for hours afterwards
This game developed my love for fighting games as a kid. Played this as a child I mean probably 5-6 years old. I got really into shooters as a teen but when MK9 dropped I thought back to this game and how much I used to love it and that game reinvigorated my love again
First Tekken I ever played. We had a PS1 at the boarding school (specifically, the recreation room of said boarding school) I went to at the time, so it was just me and my friends passing the controler to one another and play the hell out of this.
My brother and I reserved this at Toys R Us in Amarillo, TX. We didn't have a Gamestop/Funcoland/EB Games there at the time, not even in our mall. We probably spent more than $500 on this game at the arcade and almost took the game back because when you selected the character it didn't say their name. Other than that, it looked so good. We couldn't believe how well they were able to translate it from the arcade to the PS1. It is still my favorite Tekken.
I generally agree with everything you said but man, the music in Tekken 2 is pretty special as well. That's where Tekken's run on having great soundtracks started, imo. It was so different, it oozed personality and when I put it on today it zaps my ass back to 1995 instantly.
Tekken 3 created a core memory (Inside Out reference if you don't understand) because of how much an impression it left on me. I remember the day my mom's cousin's ex-husband brought over his PS1, and had a few games. My cousins and I looking for a multiplayer game to play together, and found Tekken 3. We played that thing all day, forgetting anything else. The game just looks so cool, the music was awesome, and Eddy was definitely the favorite of EVERYONE lol. We forgot about the other games completely and just couldn't stop playing this.

Tekken 3 is what pushed me to do martial arts wayyy back then.. the movement i actually tried to pull thm out sparring and in karate tourneys,, Jin moveset its IRL awesome fun do replicate..Love this game... Love Jin.. somewhat the secuels didnt land like that for me. really hopeful for tekken 8 to bring back that glory
The nostalgia of the music and sound effects. It brings me back to the feel i felt back then when i first played it.. and how life was so simple back then compared to now
The introduction of Tekken 3 is still the most iconic intro in the series.
More than Tekken 5?
@@Kickinthescience obviously
@@Kickinthescience i love 5's intro a hecking lot, but 3's vibe and atmosphere are unmatched
Best theme in Tekken period. The arcade and console OST. Jin TK3 theme is goat.
i even and consider Jin's theme is the TK3 national anthem
I don't listen often to Tekken music, but Jin's theme is the equivalent of Jotaro's theme from JoJo. It's THE track to hype you up.
I spent countless, and I mean countless hours playing this as a kid with my brother and uncle. It's the game that's responsible for my love of fighting games. It's been a long time since I played a Tekken game though, looking forward to getting back into them with Tekken eight!
This game was totally my thing back then. Just superb. Thank you max
The hype for Tekken 3 before it came out was insane and it still delivered.
🔙🔙▪️is the reason for most people picking Yoshimitsu back then 😂
Eddy Gordo: X+O x100 until you win.
MK1 was my first ever fighting game, but Tekken 3 made me an aficionado for life. This game’s importance can really not be understated
This video hurts to watch😢
I had this game when I was very young and the competitive scene is really cool. I even learned later that my favorite character (King) was one of, if not the most, hype characters in the game.
Sadly I never ever learned how to play, never beat the game, and probably never played it with anyone else.
Completely missed out when It was just within reach.
What a goat Game , the moves , the OST. Just pure Magic.
THIS is the Tekken that instilled my love for the series. I still remember all the rematches my brother and I ran through.
This game was my LIFE, dude. That Law stage OST will always be the favorite to me, they were straight COOKING in the studio.
That's what's missing in current iterations of Tekken. There's no character specific stages and music. Tekken 2s Law, Paul and Kazuya's arranged themes still hold a special place in my heart after all these years.
So many good stage songs, man. Jin, King, Jack, Ogre, Paul, etc
Better than yo mama’s???
I see what you did there
Consider this.
Yesss...even in ps5 and tekken 8 era we still play tekken 3 here in India...the nostalgia hits hard every time
Tekken 3, a game you can boot up until this day and it still plays that well. It’s that good and how iconic a few decades later.
Something I found really cool was the rivalry between Jin and Hwoarang. Me and my best friend picked a side and that became our main and created a friendly rivalry between us in Tekken that stands to this day. It all started here with Tekken 3.
I was reeeeally young when I played this as a child, I loved watching the endings for T3, especially Gons, letting it loop over and over.
This what brought my love for 3D fighters to crazy levels & Hwoarang will always be my favorite player can’t wait for 8
I remember my cousin was going to college and he gave me his PS1 that came with Tekken 3 and at the time I was only playing Smash 64, booted up T3 and it changed by life forever.
This is the GOAT. This is the system seller. I remember talking about this in fourth grade, and people asked "Is there a Tekken 2?"
I worked in arcades around this time and TK3 was game changing. My fav of all time is still TTT (original) but TK3 is a very close second.
Tekken 3 was my first video game and I love it. The series has a special place in my heart and it all starts here
No it wasn't ur 1st was Mario stop lying
Probably the Greatest Fighting Game ever made
I'm so glad this got me into the genre
I played Tekken 3 SO MUCH growing up. It was THE fighting game on PS1 lol
Damn this game takes me back!! Tekken 8 is taking forever to come out
So Tekken 3 like many people was my first taste of the series and it’s the only fighting game where the first character I picked up, Julia, is the one I still play to this day.
Happy 25 years to this legendary gem!
This game is one of my all time favorites.
Still, my favorite. Played the demo a ton. Best OST too imo.

This was my first fighting game and im glad it was. I dont really play a lot of fighting games nowadays but this one has a special place in my heart.
I played this game on the arcade in the gas station. Cost 25 cents if I remember in 1998. Bring back the memories.
This game was like crack as a kid. The first fighting game that made me care about fighting games.
Finally! Was waiting for T3! My entry into the series. And one of the best fighting games ever!
Back when Tekken 3 came out in the arcades, it was the only game I ever put my quarters into, at least until Tekken Tag Tournament.
This was my favorite Tekken, it just had an impact on my little mind. I had the Yoshimitsu toy with the TK3 skins. Loved it!
It blew my mind as a kid, ever since then I fell in love with fighting games & Tekken. I’ll forever be grateful for her & till this day she’s surprised my brother & I still play Tekken . Tekken 8 will be day one purchase for us since my brother & I have a tradition of training with our mains & going at it for hours afterwards
Best fighting game ever made
This game developed my love for fighting games as a kid.
Still remember going to the arcade in early ‘97 and seeing the long line of people waiting to play
Incredible memories with this game
Tekken 3 created a core memory (Inside Out reference if you don't understand) because of how much an impression it left on me. I remember the day my mom's cousin's ex-husband brought over his PS1, and had a few games. My cousins and I looking for a multiplayer game to play together, and found Tekken 3. We played that thing all day, forgetting anything else. The game just looks so cool, the music was awesome, and Eddy was definitely the favorite of EVERYONE lol. We forgot about the other games completely and just couldn't stop playing this.
Bruh when Paul got the ticket had me dying laughing as a kid
Man watching your Tekken legacy videos and a handfull of streamers for Tekken 7 is really making me consider getting 8 as my first ever Tekken keep up the good work
Great game! I’m playing all the Tekkens on original hardware before 8 comes out. Great idea! Thanks max
