This game is just so incredibly nostalgic for me, I remember switching on my PS2 and just spending hours playing in front of my TV. The intro cinematic is one of the best ones in the Tekken franchise and the soundtrack is still the GOAT.

But I did see plenty of people have videos and interviews where they say he's the singer, so it sounds like he just got screwed out of his credit?

T5 just aged so well. For a game that game out early 2004. There's so much love put in the game, the music is in my opinion is some of the best in the series. Ground Zero funk is super underrated and honestly is the perfect OST for the Mishima/kazama feud. Jinpachi is still the best final boss cause he actually was an interesting character, giving more insight into mishimas past.
The main thing that I appericate about this game is the roster. There was a decent amount. They brought back legacy characters (tag tournament is more a fan service scenario) and made them fun to play with.

Something that many people doesn't know is that after the failure of Tekken 4, Harada left Namco....
He took the failure of Tekken 4 personally because it affected the salaries of his colleagues and employees.
Until one of Harada's ex bosses convinced him to return to create Tekken 5
Harada put all his efforts to make the ultimate Tekken game.

One thing that i always like to point out when talking T5 is how it did everything right and managed to be the success it is despite all odds. It came after a failure both commercial and in public perception with T4, and did so in an era where other FGs were IN THE GUTTER after the golden era of the 90's. Neither SF nor KoF were doing well, MK was doing OK in its 3D era and only VF could be considered a success, but in the mid 2000's T5 was a powerhouse

This is the one we’ve waited for. I’ve been playing this the past couple weeks and this was by far the most complete entry In the series. I remember being a child, now I’m a man with a wife and a son who’s a sophomore and another who’s 9.
No matter what….this is the entry that always acts as a portal to relive those days where you were a carefree child with not a care in the world for that small moment.

I didn't start with T5, but it's THE most nostalgic game for me right next to Tag. I don't even know why, I'm just super fond of it. I remember the opening, the character interactions which were sometimes weird, the music, and of course, being super hyped once it was upgraded to Dark Resurrection because it brought back Armor King and hot damn I loved it. It was basically all I played on my PSP. Literally the only fighting game on a portable console that I could actually play just for fun. Man, this game is a gem. It had the right amount of goofy and serious, and when I think of Tekken and its tone as a series, this is it. T5 just perfected it. Also, yes. Yes it did have Bowling. On the PSP. I played a ton of that too lmao. Also introduced Ghost Battle and sending and downloading ghosts before T8.

Tekken 5 was my first foray into playing fighting games competitively. I had a dorm mate who was incredibly skilled with Steve Fox, and we played so many sets together that I eventually rose to his level with my Bryan Fury. We went and played small tournaments at an arcade in Biloxi (right before Katrina), and I loved it. Whenever I find a Tekken 5 arcade machine, I just have to play it. Legendary game.
Also, Moonlit Wilderness. Best fighting game BGM of all time.

My first tekken was tekken 2 as a kid. I would just play casually along with 3. Then i bought 4 and played that casually as well, it wasnt until tekken 5 DR that i took tekken seriously and learned a lot. Prior to t5 i thought just knowing the 10 hits combos made you good, tekken 5 molded me and to me it's still the greatest tekken of all time. The characters, the boss which is still the best final boss in tekken history despites frustrating players (his theme was also the greatest), the addition of online play and character customization, the soundtrack, the gameplay, tekken 5 is undefeated.

A little late, but I just gotta say. This game saved me... It sounds weird. I was 13. Going through some really bad and depressing stages. It all hit me at once. I was failing school, trying to fit in somewhere, was getting into petty and pointless fights, arguing with everyone even though I was wrong. It was bad. But this game. Really saved me. I bought this game with my own money, from mowing lawns and getting allowance in March of 2005. Saved up enough money and decided to buy this game. And it helped me through those rough stages. Instead of fighting in real life, I was taking my aggression out on virtual characters. I did eventually start passing my classes, maybe that had nothing to do with Tekken 5, but in so many ways this game helped me. All-time favorite Tekken game.

I hate the fact that the only time Namco tried to do something fresh and risky with Tekken 4, it had such a huge backlash, that after success of T5 they refused to ever change anything at all and the rest of the games feel like T5.2, T5.3 etc. Even "get ready for the next battle" screens are still the same 20 years after.

The gameplay felt more realistic too. Call me a boomer but I liked the chippy jabby fights rather than jugglefests T8 pushes for. T8 plays more like MVC2, fun game but not what I play Tekken for. I totally get they have to innovative and mix it up, Tekken 7 had a good balance I feel but T8 really rubs me the wrong way. I wanted to try learn Paul but he looks like a creepy crackhead now with a Karen haircut. Law having nunchucks is a cool idea but the excessive amout of chains and the roids are just over the top stupid. Yes Tekken has always had over the top stuff in it but the characters felt relatively grounded save like 4 wacky characters.

Then one of the sitter’s teenage son walks in with his friends and a PS2. You’re a good noodle, so you get to hang with the big kids and you’re blessed to witness Tekken 5 for the first time. From that day forward every time he brings his ps2 you and him play for hours. You then convince your dad to get the game for yourself but, you forgot you don’t own a memory card.
