I've said it before but i looooove how you guys show the versatility of gel and glitter. They truly are a match made in heaven and you can do so much with them. Hello I thought we are never supposed to build with base
She did thin layers making her skeleton with base and built with build pink. Base is still a hard gel. Sometimes for designs reasons like today she used base and some may prefer to work with the consistency of the other hard gels like the thicker clear sculpture or the thinner ones like base, build, build pink or flex. Still all had gels with base on the nail bed after prep and protein bond for the best adhesion. I’ve used build pink the whole way through after base. Hope this helps.

Correct, you don't want to build the whole nail or anything thick with base gel, but using it to sculpt a thin free edge and as a thin inbetween later for dimensional art is completely fine.
Karen also says she usually only does this for smile lines and typically uses clear sculptor for the free edge when doing other types of clear hard gel nails.

@youngnailsinc ok makes sense I went back to the video to see why she opted to use base to create the free edge but she didn't specify guess it was just her preference
@@raya74 she was making a smile line so she wanted the skeleton to be very thin. If it’s too high in some places from the thicker gel when you’re doing a white free edge for pink and whites you don’t want a shadow to poke through on the high pound of the clear gel underneath. Hope that clears it up. Might not have mattered too much for this design but she probably didn’t want her foils to end up too high to avoid filing them out and make a see through spot either. Hope that helps clear it up a little
