People in villages may be a bit reserved towards foreigners, especially with darker skin tones as many of them probably have never seen someone like you just strolling through the village + they often see in the news how *certain* foreigners behave in Germany, France or Britain. But if you show them that you are polite, speak the language(even the slang phrases), you are excited about the culture, everything is fine.

The gentleman was very nice! I hope you sent him the photos xD Hope you're enjoying your stay in Moravia. The lollipop thing is used in lowlands to pump water, the ball on top is a water reservoir.
Correct, it's a water tower used to increase water pressure since there's no place to put a raised ground reservior. Water is pumped in there to increase water pressure in your faucets. It's usually not needed in hilly regions, such as where I live (Karlovy Vary redion), as there is usually a river running through a valley that can be used for a reservoir for drinking water which is high enough for the water pressure to be sufficient. Not to say there aren't any here, they're just not as common. Just a more detailed infodump.
André, I would say that Czechs are reserved towards foreigners only at the very beginning, they don't know what to expect from them. But if you don't show off to them and you try to speak at least a little Czech, you become their favourite very quickly. I have a weekendhouse in a similar tiny shithole to Špičky. Some time ago a French student (with dark skin) came there for the holidays. He spoke Czech quite well, having lived in Prague for three years. A few days later, the locals were literally fighting to nvite him home for dinner or to the pub for a beer. That's how it is with Czech racism and xenophobia. Enjoy your life, dude!
Czechs, slovaka, polish - we are like this 😂 But if u go typical balkan countries they will call you "my brother" and give you an alcohol after few minutes of talking 😂
So true, especially when it comes to older folks-those over 70, that is. They may be racist or xenophobic, but that’s often because they’ve never met any foreigners-not even Germans or Austrians. As a well-traveled person of Czech origin, raised in places like Austria and Canada, I find it shocking how little has changed in some villages since the Middle Ages. It’s like time stood still. Being a history buff, I know that in the Middle Ages, you’d be in serious trouble for doing what Andre does. What I mean is, that life on a Czech village has not changed much. And so, these older people may express prejudice even towards each other because the only "foreigners" they’ve ever encountered are the ones on TV. But when a real visitor comes, they become incredibly curious-asking questions, observing from a distance. And if the visitor happens to speak Czech, they’ll invite them into their homes, share drinks, and eagerly offer a long history lesson about the area. Since cities generally feel more isolated but get more attention from foreigners, people tend to stay within their own social bubbles, which keeps them stuck in a racist or xenophobic mindset. It's not customary in cities to invite strangers over, which only reinforces this isolation. However, younger people-my generation, Gen Z-are typically exposed to foreigners from a young age, breaking this unfortunate cycle. But thats not the case everywhere too (It really depends on your environment).

The fire departments in these smaller villages usually operate on a voluntary basis. The volunteers usually train as teenagers for free and become a part of the voluntary fire brigade once they finish training
This is exactly why I'm watching you. Thanks to these interactions with warm-hearted people, it always improves my mood and faith in Czech society. If someone treats people nicely like you do, it comes back. I work in a non-profit organization with foreigners (refugees) and I encounter really horrible stories about how some Czechs treat them very often, so it makes me happy to see that it's not always and everywhere. Thank you for these videos where you go to villages that even most Czechs have never heard of and interact with the people there, looking for chickens and slivovice!
not sure if it was already mentioned here, but the movie with Jamaican bobsleigh which the guy in the end mentions is Cool Runnings (1993) - in czech called Kokosy na sněhu (Coconuts on the snow) quite a cult classic of czech TV, with ton of legendary quotes.
As a Moravian, more importantly Czech, I must admire how amazing your pronunciation of the letter Ř is! As for the other pronunciations, it's not the best, but we still understand!! Thank you for spreading the know about my home country. 💜
So I went to youtube after pretty tough day at work and now in recommended videos I see our organist in thumbnal(I live in the village next to Špičky and he also plays at our church ). Imagine my surprise, first I thought it is only someone who looks like him, but when I heard you were in Špičky I knew it must be him. Your video is so funny and beautiful and it made my day, thank you so much. Also people in Špičky do not use train so much because of the fact the train station is so far and also it is dangerous to walk after that road especially that crossroad when you have to cross the main road, there is pretty heavy traffic and lots of people driving really fast. So most of the people I know in Špičky are driving their cars or they use the bus which has bus station in the village, not that bus stop at that dangerous crossroad because that bus stop is for buses which dont stop at the top of the hill in the village. It is for long distance buses mainly. And not many people use that bus stop according to my knowledge, but I am not local only neighbour so maybe I am wrong. Anyway thanks for your video it was really good and your enthusiasm for hens is simply beautiful.
André by zasloužil ochutnávku domácí tlačenky pěkně s octem a cibulí. To je úplně jinej level, než tlačenka z Coopu. Btw André, Špičková školka doesn't mean it is kindergarten in Špičky village. It is pun. It means: Super kindergarten :)
You need to cut white onion and sprinkle vinegar on tlačenka, eat it with onion, salt, and bread, try it sometimes, then it tastes completely different, you will be surprised guaranteed. 😁
Hi André, if you ever find yourself in northern Bohemia, let me know. We can explore the beauty of "The North", and accommodation won't be a problem either. I'm a native of Jablonec/Liberec region, so I'd love to show off where I live. There's more than plenty to explore here. I can also show you that in the middle of a city with over 45k+ people, there can be beautiful landscapes and places to look at. Htchhiking in Czechia is done by sticking out your thumb and trying to look as friendly as possible. ;) Also, when it comes to pedestrian movement on roads, there are many rules. The most important one is: if you're walking on a road without a sidewalk, always walk on the side where the cars are coming towards you. If you're on the side without a sidewalk, try to avoid all cars by stepping into the side (It's not a law, but all sensible people do it this way) So, you're doing it absolutely right. little bit of klowlage on end: - alcohol from apples (Jablka), it's called Jablkovice. or Jabkovice, no Slivovice (Slivovice is form plums) - Obecní dům" in Czech usually refers to a historic or significant building that serves as a center for cultural and social events, often managed by the local government. - Špičková školka is a great homonym. It means "top-notch" (špičková/špičkové/špičkový) just as well as kindergarten in the village of Špička - důkaz globálního oteplování = evidence of global warming -
André, you're amazing, I just had to say that first. There was a plenty of signs near the abandoned village, if you see ''soukromý pozemek'' it means private property (mentioning this now so you won't get in trouble in your travels) Also if you remove Š from Špičky, you'll end up with pičky, and that means cunts, in a more playful manner, but still offensive. We grow apples because it requires little to no maitenance and we can make ''štrůdl''. The reason why you see so much wood stockpiled, is that it's cheaper to heat up the house with wood rather than electric heating. ('cause you buy the amount for cheap for 3 years, basically.) Fun fact, Jednota is actually called Unity in english, they were here since 1850. That bug what attacked you when enjoying your deserved tlačenka is not ''včely'' but probably ''vosy'' that means wasps. (I despise those beings with every fiber of my body) Tlačenka ''reminds me of cat food'' couldn't say it any better André :D ''Důkaz globalního oteplování'' means Proof of Global Warming, makes it even funnier. That random tower you reffered to as a lollipop (that was hillarious André :D) is actually a water tower. Czech barbecue is usally called ''grilovačka'', or if the pig was slain the very day, It's called ''zabijačka'' (zabít as to kill, and ačka is just a derivate from grilo *vačka* ) Fire brigades in villages are most of the time volunteers. Safe travels André!
Tlačenka…. Hmmmm…. This is like..reminds me cat food 😭🤣☠️😅 to je borec 😅😅😅 A o Špičce se mi bude nejspíš i zdát!

Tlačenka with onion, little bit of vinegar and the fresh bread is a guilty pleasure for me. But I've never tried ovar I think. He is more experienced in our traditional heart dishes than many of us are 😀
I wouldnt expect that anyone whould care about such a content, i am from Moravia as well, your czech is very good. Respect man :) And i am also glad that czech people are nice to you, that is important. Because basicly we are indeed Nation of good people. But stupid people are everywhere thats for sure. 😉
As czech person,I really like his view of point on our culture. Pretty funny to think about tlačenka, ovar and bread as a typical breakfast in our country. 😁👌 He's kinda adorable with his childish attitude about common things like apple trees and hens (slepisee) 😅 Love his videos. 🙏🍀❤️
I grew up in south Bohemia, but I already spent half of my life in Prague. But still, what makes this video so beautiful is that the guy basically starts at catastral border of a village - you'd call it county, in US. That is the reason why there is basically nothing around, till he finally reaches the village itself. And then behaviour of the seller in Jednota was strongly influenced by the fact that he was able to speak czech. Usually, these people would panic, if you'd confront them with english - language they were tought to hate when they were growing up. But if you'd show a bit and pieces of czech lang, they will melt. As for the guy and his van, that is easy - he's around his 30's or 40's, hard to tell - so he had EN at his elementary or secondary school. You made him run for his money with his EN knowledge, but he managed. That is so sweet to see - that in our country, even people in countryside do know the importance of it. The fact that you're black, green, yellow or blue won't matter to us. I personally couldn't care less how you look as long as you're human. And if you're nice to speak to, even better. These older people have soft spot exactly where that guy landed. He was something new, interesting, yet familiar (cz lang), so they moved along. I nearly envy that guy.... If he'd ran with EN only, it wouldn't be so pleasant experience compared to something he could see in bigger cities. Than 'uncle' there was also epic. I do understand why some country-side looking foreigners can love this country. It definitelly allowed me to remember why I love it myself. But I really appreciate how polite that guy is. Subscribed.
The wooden house is not a house. It's a "chata". Small recreational object in a garden or nature. Sometimes used just to store barbecue and gardening tools. Anyway, I love your video. I got a craving for tlačenka.
The fire brigades are not day to day at the village, unlike in the cities. Members of the emergency unit respond to a call from the headquarters (usually the region capital fire unit) and they rush to the garage to get set up, take the car and go to the rescue. A big part of these operations are technical help situations where we just clear the road of fallen trees. Fires are rare.
Great. You speak Czech well. Bravo. You have probably been in the Czech Republic for a long time. Yes, there are beautiful places in our country. And what about Prague. Otherwise, the people are very nice. 💯🔥🔥

''A Czech bus stop, that's right'' man I like your positive vibes, much love man, much love!!
To je frajer! Thank you kindly for visiting, I hope you met only nice people in our country! Pěkná čeština!
The fire departments in these smaller villages usually operate on a voluntary basis. The volunteers usually train as teenagers for free and become a part of the voluntary fire brigade once they finish training
,,Mam tlačenka na snídani"😁😁👍I love videos from czech moravian villages👌🙂😁andreeee😍👍😁
Mate, I love your videos! So funny! Your Czech is also very good and the interactions are hilarious. Keep them coming. Love from London!
André, you and your enthusiasm for Czech things is so adorable! I always have a good time watching your videos. Greetings from Český Krumlov!
Damn dude you rly made me chuckle😁 respect for your czech its hard language fs and very hilarious when you speak (in good way), nature is top
I could listen to your Czech whole day 😍😍🤩🤩 Omg I love you
I was just smiling, but when I heard "I wonder if they have ovar in this Jednota!" I've bursted into the laugh.
Jo, ale Martička byla dnes bez ovárku
I just love how positive this man is and how beatiful image of our country is he painting in every video🤜🤛
Jako fakt tady nemáme jabloně pouze kvůli slivovici.. 😀
Super video💜
You need to cut white onion and sprinkle vinegar on tlačenka, eat it with onion, salt, and bread, try it sometimes, then it tastes completely different, you will be surprised guaranteed. 😁
This is so lovely 🧡 Thank you for your great video and amazing positive vibes
André is such a pure soul, i am really glad for that he met really nice peopel.
Htchhiking in Czechia is done by sticking out your thumb and trying to look as friendly as possible. ;)
Also, when it comes to pedestrian movement on roads, there are many rules. The most important one is: if you're walking on a road without a sidewalk, always walk on the side where the cars are coming towards you. If you're on the side without a sidewalk, try to avoid all cars by stepping into the side (It's not a law, but all sensible people do it this way) So, you're doing it absolutely right.
little bit of klowlage on end:
- alcohol from apples (Jablka), it's called Jablkovice. or Jabkovice, no Slivovice (Slivovice is form plums)
- Obecní dům" in Czech usually refers to a historic or significant building that serves as a center for cultural and social events, often managed by the local government.
- Špičková školka is a great homonym. It means "top-notch" (špičková/špičkové/špičkový) just as well as kindergarten in the village of Špička
- důkaz globálního oteplování = evidence of global warming
-
Trešnovice from cherries
André, you're amazing, I just had to say that first.
There was a plenty of signs near the abandoned village, if you see ''soukromý pozemek'' it means private property (mentioning this now so you won't get in trouble in your travels)
Also if you remove Š from Špičky, you'll end up with pičky, and that means cunts, in a more playful manner, but still offensive.
We grow apples because it requires little to no maitenance and we can make ''štrůdl''.
The reason why you see so much wood stockpiled, is that it's cheaper to heat up the house with wood rather than electric heating. ('cause you buy the amount for cheap for 3 years, basically.)
Fun fact, Jednota is actually called Unity in english, they were here since 1850.
That bug what attacked you when enjoying your deserved tlačenka is not ''včely'' but probably ''vosy'' that means wasps. (I despise those beings with every fiber of my body)
Tlačenka ''reminds me of cat food'' couldn't say it any better André :D
''Důkaz globalního oteplování'' means Proof of Global Warming, makes it even funnier.
That random tower you reffered to as a lollipop (that was hillarious André :D) is actually a water tower.
Czech barbecue is usally called ''grilovačka'', or if the pig was slain the very day, It's called ''zabijačka'' (zabít as to kill, and ačka is just a derivate from grilo *vačka* )
Fire brigades in villages are most of the time volunteers.
Safe travels André!
As a czech i LOVE your videos and absolutely LOVE to see that my czech brothers and sisters ain't racist ❤❤❤
Im Czech and this is beatiful video❤

Vďaka za video, Andre.
Človek si to môže porovnať aj z tvojho uhla.
Tvoja autentickost je 100% ďakujeme ❤
Skvělé video! Děláš mi úsměv na tváři!
Amazing video! You make me smile!

Thank you André for positive energy
Amazing people, so friendly and open! 🥰
Tlačenka…. Hmmmm…. This is like..reminds me cat food 😭🤣☠️😅 to je borec 😅😅😅
You killed it man! I am from that region in Moravia. It is lovely to see someone so excited by being there. You were very friendly and funny. And I am happy to see our ppl friendly, helpful and funny too.❤😂
Love it! Your ethusiasm and vibrant personality are delightful to watch. :) Thank you
The interaction in the shop was soooo heartwarming.. Almost made me cry man...
Guy is goin hard on the traditional life :D even I as a czech cant stand tlačenka.
Dont worry i hate tlačenka too 😅
I love it. . . tlačenka s octem a cibulkou je výborná.
Utopenec is worst in my opinion 😂😂😂😂. Although i last have it like 10 years ago cuz i no longer eat meat, but in this case I'm not missing much 😂😂😂😂
Tlačenka with onion, little bit of vinegar and the fresh bread is a guilty pleasure for me. But I've never tried ovar I think. He is more experienced in our traditional heart dishes than many of us are 😀
Thats awesome, man! Ta čeština je dobrá, na někoho z ciziny. Velmi cením. :3
Já jsem jednoduše rád že někdo z ciziny navštívil a ocenil naši Moravu 👍
Slepice :DDDDDDDD hey bro, made my day :D.. Gj, cheers from czech.
Very good skill at speaking czech. Love the enthusiasm.
Huge respect for André that he learnt pretty decent Czech.
Knowing the local language opens many doors 👍
As a czech person Im actually surprised of you! Very nice pronounce of the words! Keep it up! Doin great work!
Moravian people are the best. I took my gf from Chile to my village on Slovacko and she totally love it. Thanks for this to show other people 🙂

It's my hometown! André i have to say that your video Is absolutely gorgeous! 🎉😅
Great video. That guy was really nice and friendly, You are lucky to meet such kind people
Hranice na Moravě - Teplice nad Bečvou - Černotín - Špičky, that is like 10 minutes by train for me, nice love your energy man :D
its so cool seeing foreigners appreciating our culture and language!
Anglicky to je Cabin house, nebo prostě Cabin
The fire brigades are not day to day at the village, unlike in the cities. Members of the emergency unit respond to a call from the headquarters (usually the region capital fire unit) and they rush to the garage to get set up, take the car and go to the rescue. A big part of these operations are technical help situations where we just clear the road of fallen trees. Fires are rare.
I love when you interact with Czechs the man at the and was great!:D
All that for 79?? daamn
ovar je levný
Great. You speak Czech well. Bravo. You have probably been in the Czech Republic for a long time. Yes, there are beautiful places in our country. And what about Prague. Otherwise, the people are very nice. 💯🔥🔥
