This was an awesome fix. Part cost $10!! There is an upgraded wave plate kit on ebay for about $70 USD. (6T70 6T75 Sonnax 3-5-R Drum Saver Kit) I would use this doing my next repair.
Just put a new engine in mine. The new valve cover gasket was modified from original, and may prevent the engine issue.140k miles when mine went. Personally know 5 people who had the same issue. You nailed it, known timing chain issues.
Good job! By the way the timing chains aren't the problem. These 3.6 engines suck oil off through the vent in the vavle case (I think that'swhat it'scalled). GM came out with a new type of gasket which helps correct this problem. If there isn't enough oil in the engine then the chains get very hot and stretch. With proper maintenance of an oil change every 3500 miles the chains will last. We have two 2017 Enclave premiums. We absolutely love them!
I have a 2012 Buick Enclave thats going in next week for transmission overhaul. GM should have a recall on all years of the Enclaves trannys! Great video !
GM covered this repair by an extension of the powertrain warranty. Supprised the previous owner didn't take advantage of it, maybe theirs failed after the extension? Also, make sure you pull the pressure switches that are the first plate under the plastic side cover you removed. They need to be rebuilt. There is a dorman kit for like $40 for this.
How did you get the sheet metal out that's directly in front of the transmission case? One shot it's there the next it's off. Looks on mine like it's welded on.
I have a 2008 Enclave. It has 240,000kms on it. I’m pretty sure the previous owner did the trans and wave plate. I find when I’m doing 80km/h and I try to speed up a tad. It won’t gear down to 5th it goes to 4 or 3. Almost like it struggles and doesn’t want to leave 6th
@@kartboarder22g17 do you have more on these switches and the rebuild kit you are referencing? I think I have the same trans in my 2014 Cadillac SRX and I guess it may be worth checking into.
Do you have a V6? First thing is to figure out what transmission is in there The v6s use the 6t70 or the 6t75 in the case of this Buick those seem to be the troublesome transmissions with the wave plate plus they seem to degrade from my point of view due to temperature as there were about four of the switches in the transmission but I believe only one or two were blown through and then another one was partially blown through and another one was completely fine. Now it might have been that they rebuilt one of them when they rebuilt the transmission but my guess is I doubt that. So it seems like some of them are getting hit with high temperature pressure and that's what's causing them to fail as I doubt that it's a fluid caused issue. I tried to paste the link but RUclips is not letting me pry cuz the link is too long but basically just Goole: 124740-TL30 - 6L45/6L50/6L80/6L90 And 6T70 (Gen.1), 6T75 (Gen.1) Transmission Sonnax Pressure Switch Installation Tool Kit
@@jsflagstad that should have the 6t70 in it. It's not too hard to do it yourself. Just the space is tight. Shifting vastly improves delay shift in reverse will likely remain.

Is it hard to find a place to do this kind of work I live in hamilton Ontario Canada .and if my transmission shutter is the same problem thank you harvey bender is this. A very costly problem to repair
Yes there are other wave plates. While you have the case open you could replace them all. The weak spot, though, is the 3-5-Reverse plate. It is most prone to wear and break.
Great video. My 2012 GMC Acadia slt drives good but if I'm on the highway after about 30min the transmission fluid gets super hot and it doesn't shift very good after that. Do you think it's the solenoids that shift the gears itself that's causing this hard sluggish shifting and the hot trans fluid

Hello, I came upon this video when search for transmission issues on my 2014 Cadillac SRX. It appears to possibly be the same transmission? My question is, is it possible to replace the clutches through that endplate? I guess kind of like an "in car" limited rebuild? Mine slips a bit in 6th gear and otherwise works pretty good. So what all is accessible through this side cover? Also, I'm not real clear on how you dealt with that speed sensor, I see you pulled the front cover as well but it wasn't real evident in the video of what you had to do there. It sure would be great if I could just access the clutches from this side plate opening and be back in business. My car has 288K MILES on it but otherwise runs and drives well.
Hey Jordan. I'm not a transmission expert but I believe all the clutch plates come out the end. I just carefully took them all out to replace the broken wave plate. The front cover needs to come off and the speed sensor wire is attached near the top. It has to be removed to pull the end plate off. Good luck. I hope this answered your questions.
ALL 6T70 & 6T75 transmissions will suffer from this failure eventually...even the 2010+ w/ the updated wave plates still fail eventually...you HAVE to replace 'em with a Sonnax drum-saver kit if you really don't want any comebacks 🤷
I have a problem with my vehicle it makes a grinding noise reverse doesn't work and when it hits 2nd gear sounds rough anybody had deal with anything similar
I'd say they are pretty nice reliable vehicles. They do have a couple weak spots. One is the transmission (this video covers). The other would be the timing chain. If you change the oil on time and keep it clean they will last longer. Dirty oil wears the timing chain linkages and essentially "stretches" the chains. I have a video on installing new chains on a Cadillac SRX (pretty much the same engine) here: ruclips.net/video/MTqds7Zrpg4/видео.html

Could you have replaced the wave plates w/o removing the wheel and strut? Just removed the cover plate andcslid the plates forward?.
Thanks
I don't think so. I took as many shortcuts as I could. By the book method is to drop the whole subframe.
Are there multiple wave plates, and are they all the same? If so, would it be wise to replace all of them at the same time?
Yes there are other wave plates. While you have the case open you could replace them all. The weak spot, though, is the 3-5-Reverse plate. It is most prone to wear and break.

same problem here...wave plate is damaged, and there is no reverse to our buick enclave... after you changed the wave plate, no problem after that?.

Where is the plug where I can plug my car into the garage ?
Do you mean the block heater cord? Depending on your climate, not all cars have them.
Would have been nice to see it go in reverse to see if that was the fix.
The 3-5-Reverse plate was broken! No 3rd gear. No 5th gear. No reverse gear! Take my word for it. 😇

I don't think so James. I'm pretty sure you have to drop the subframe. It was a tight one just getting the end cap off.
