If you attempt to replace a 3-5-R wave plate you MUST split the case! So much metal debris is generated it WILL clog the filter and you will lose line pressure. I have done hundreds of these. Just a tip if you attempt to do this at home.
Brian M. Hi Brian, thanks for the comment. As you can see from the video and my comment below, the waveplate in the video has not yet broken. I replaced this as a preventative measure and if you take on the job before it fails, splitting the cases is unnecessary.
Sometimes I wonder about that. In an automatic transmission, all the oil is filtered before going anywhere. Pulling the pan and changing the filter and maybe adding a magnet, if there isn't one already, is a lot easier than splitting the case as well.
My memory is a little fuzzy, but I think that I could have fished it back into place without removing the other packs. I would definitely use the Green Tranny-Goo this time around to hold those types of items in place during reassembly, too. It would make things much easier when trying to reinstall things horizontally.
NOTE: I installed all new motor mounts (including upper "strut" mount) on my 2010. On the trans mount he is working on here...GM gave the mount VERY long threaded studs. In my efforts I found that you cannot remove the old mount without cutting the stud off. I tried lowering the sub frame as much as I could get it to go and without possibly destroying things like the AC lines etc etc. It just seemed that the mount could almost be removed...and the new one almost installed but for the studs not wanting to clear. My fix was to take the new mount and trim down the studs just enough to fit in there. Then once everything is brought back into position there is plenty of threaded stud left for the nut and several threads past the nut. I couldn't figure out why GM felt those studs had to be so long as to have an inch or so past the nut. I used loctite on the threads and all is well thousands of miles later. Only my front mount was broke causing the engine to rise and fall under torque making an odd thump sound on occasion. So I replaced them all. However I will say typically only the front mount goes bad as it's somewhat different than the other basic type mounts...from what I could tell. The rest of my mounts and torque strut appeared very solid whereas the front was totally trashed.
Chris, i have a question regarding the clutch drum? I think its called. I followed your video, but when i pulled my assembly out, it was not tight like yours. I had a few more pieces come out and one of the waveplates was loose.

+Gabe Borscheid correct, from what i've heard the company that GM hired to make and assemble the wave plate, made one side sharp and the other flat and gave the builders no instructions on which side to put in first, so some are ok, others are not. Supposedly they have fixed this on new vehicles but we'll see.
+purplexenno This isn't quite accurate. Both old and new parts are stamped, which will always result in one sharp edge and one dull edge. While it is true that GM produced a TSB to inform on the proper orientation for installation, in my opinion, getting this wrong will only result in earlier wear of the adjacent clutch plates - not a fracturing failure that we are familiar with. The real difference between the old and new parts from my observations was that the old parts were flame hardened at the inner and outer edges whereas the new parts were case hardened all around. I suspect that the flame hardening was causing excessive brittleness, resulting in the early fatigue failures we experienced and that GM expected a case hardening process to prevent such brittleness. Just my $0.02.
2008 Saturn Vue 3.6liter and doing a motor swap so wanted to do this 35R also but you mention the thrust washer fell which requires deeper parts removal. If I wanted to just do the 35r plate should I separate the motor from the trans and tilt vertically so looking down at all parts and allowing gravity to hold that washer in place?
Fundamentally, the process is the same. Some people have reported being able to do this in the vehicle without fully removing the engine/trans, but you need to lower it from the car enough to get to the transmission cover as shown. Obviously it's a lot more restricted inside the car. Good luck!
Hi Chris Than you for your precious show. I have 1 question. You wrote "I biught the seal kit from the local dealer. It was about 120$". This kit is 24269587. I have Buick Enclave 2008 AWD with Transmission MH6 (SPD, HMD, X22, PTU) with cooling oil option , engine: LY7/3.6 - 7. Can I use the same kit or another?
This is great video. I am having the same issue with my 2008 Saturn Aura. I will attempt to change mine. So the rough side of the wavy plate will be facing the rest of the plate? There was a note there on the video.
It's not 'rough' so much as it has a sharper edge. And yes, the sharper edge side should go towards the other clutch plates. The sharp vs not-sharp difference is very subtle, though.
Hi Bubba, Good question. I actually went ahead and replaced the wave plates in those other clutch packs, so I took those sub assemblies out of the transmission. In doing so, replacing that thrust bearing was pretty straight forward. I didn't attempt to try to raise it back into position without removing the other pieces, so I'm not actually sure how tricky it would have been. I hope to have the other video put together soon (I'm pretty bad at finding the time to edit these videos to post them, apparently).
Hey Chris, I really like your videos. I recently purchased an 08 Enclave and I feel comfortable replacing my steering gear now that I watched your video. Looks like you have a lot of energy dude, I am hoping I don't have to tear this thing apart as far as you have. It looks like you touched on the most common problems with the Enclave, let's hope not much else becomes too common with them. I can see why the original purchasers would be upset as these are some high price repair issues. Thanks for the info and keep up the good work
The thrust washer you mention that dropped, was that deeper within the transmission or on the outer portion? Would I have to continue disassembling the transmission to find it?
@@rickygray7767 Be careful with that. When I did mine, the wave plate hadn't broken yet. Once it breaks, if it any pieces make their way around your trans, then a more significant breakdown and overhaul is needed.
Do you have any info. on how they did ot just lowering the cradle? Did they have to disconnect all of the hoses and things you would have to disconnect to remove the whole assembly or were they able to leave things hooked up and just dropped the cradle bolts and lowered it enough to clear the body on a jack?
+skiboyne74 There will probably be a few things that you'll need to disconnect, but if I recall, it appeared that there was considerable service slack in a lot of the major connections (coolant, for example), that it struck me that not too much would need to be disconnected to lower the cradle a significant amount. If you do it, write back and let me know what you ended up needing to do. Good luck!
good video but one shouldn't re install and drive, I believe bearings fell out of place internally, as noted by the "washers falling" text. You would need to further dissemble to get them bearings back in place.
Nope - it was just a thrust washer and I was easily able to place it back into position and finish the installation. We drove the car another 40K miles before trading it in, so it worked fine. If you have a similar problem and are having trouble getting such washers to stay in place, you can use "Dr. Tranny's Assemblee Goo" to help hold things in place.
I did this fix on my 2008 enclave but reverse still slips and when it goes to shift into 3rd gear it puts the car into limp mode. I believe I fixed it correctly. Do I need to flash the computer? Also after waveplate fix I dont have any tail lights. Hopefully someone here can help. Thanks!!!
Hi there. Im having an issue with my 2011 Acadia (delayed shift to reverse and slip when shifting to 3rd and 5th. 1st, 2nd, and 6th shift perfect. Took it to the dealer and they said it was the 3-5-R wave plate. So by replacing that on ring in this video should fix that issue? Thanks!
If you're having shifting problems, then you're probably past the point where you can get away with just replacing the wave plate.. If the wave plate is broken and the pieces have managed to make their way around your transmission, then your transmission is going to need more extensive disassembly and repair.
Need additional help? The 3,5,reverse wave plate is not flat, it's bent in several areas. Is that plate supposed to be flat? Symptoms are thump into reverse and not shifting out of low gear. Second question, the outer bigger plate still in the transmission came out of place. What position is it supposed to be in. I can give you my number if it's easier. Thank you.
The wave plate is a spring plate and is supposed to be 'wavy' so that's normal. Regarding your other questions, I'm afraid I can't be much help - but I tear deeper into the transmission in my second video... perhaps there is a shot of the other plate you are referring to in that video? Good luck!
I had this done by the GM dealer under warrenty, but after the repair i,m getting two or three miles to the gallon less fuel economy . anyone know why that might be?
Thanks Chris. Good video. What's your preference? Changing in vehicle or out? There are a few videos on engine removal, but nobody is as detailed as your video.Maybe you can do one on engine removal?
I will see what I can put together. I wasn't quite as good about the video recording when I pulled the engine but I do have some videos. I still have some engine timing chain videos for the Enclave that I keep meaning to process as well. If I had to do it over again, I'd do it the same way, I think... Pulling the engine was a pain, but it was a straight forward process. And once it was out, it was sooo much better for access. I will try to work on those engine removal videos, but please don't hold your breath.. I've been working 13 hour days on a big project at work which hasn't been leaving me much 'home-project' time. Good luck!
I had recorded some video of the engine removal process, but never put it into anything for youtube. You could checkout my timelapse video of putting the engine back in.. it was almost like that in reverse.
My understanding is that it is possible, though I have not personally done it. Sone folks on rhe the Acadia forum have followed this video without removing the engine, but I'm betting that you will need to lower the engine far enough that some of the electrical harnesses and hoses will need to be disconnected. You may also find the need to remove the radiator to get enough access to the valve body cover. Good luck! If you do it, write back here on how it went!
I have my 35R drum out and the wave plate is broke into 5 pieces. I ordered parts but the wave plate i got from Rock-auto does not fit the splines on the hub. it appears to be too large and would spin. Did I get the wrong 35R wave plate or does it just fit loose on the hub?
my question is why is anyone changing this wave plate at all and for what reason or trouble issue? I just bought an 08 enclave and it has never had fluid swapped out or rusted trans lines swapped out. Now with new coolant lines swapped out no longer leaking the new fluid Vl Dextron fluids, its slipping worse then ever? Is this why ???
OEM 3-5-R waveplates for these transmissions were not durable enough and had known issues fracturing. If they fractured, your transmission was toast, so it was advisable to replace them ahead of that problem if possible. Revised versions had a different heat treat and/or shot peening to improve durability.
My 2016 Traverse had the no reverse problem. Then it only went into 1st gear. We bought it at 23k miles and it had 27k at the time of issue. GM covered the cost of repair, but I was wondering if we're in danger of it happening again. Does anyone know if new parts have been able to be more reliable?
Normally when we rebuild them we use the most current parts that GM has updated to not be junk, but that doesn't mean your transmission is invincible, I do this repair pretty much on a daily basis and don't have return customers, so I would assume the newer parts are holding up much better than the original ones.
All speeds? Have you tried driving in the manual shift mode? The wave plate problem usually results in error codes and the transmission not working at all in a few gears. Shuddering is usually related to other things. If it gets better in manual shift mode, then it probably is related to the torque converter. The fact that it got worse after a flush suggests that there is a fluid pressure problem that they exacerbated with the backflushing. This could be either the filter getting clogged or they created or made worse a problem in the valve body - or the torque converter needs to be replaced. If it was*just* a problem with the valve body or control circuits, (TEHCM) those *could* be removed without taking out the transmission, but in all likelyhood, you'd want a shop that was going to tear down the transmission to check out the rest of the components anyways. Let me know how it goes!
I think you'll be fine to reuse the snap ring. However, you should know that if your wave plate is actually broken into pieces, you need to disassemble the transmission more than I did in this video to get all of the debris out.

@@dirty323 Only if it hasn't already broken. On my car, the ring hadn't broken yet, so I could replace it with the new one by itself.. Since your transmission is experiencing problems, it may have already shattered, in which case, you do end up having to replace other parts due to the debris that results. Good luck!
Hey Chris, I know this post is crazy old, but I'm having issues with my 2013 AWD Traverse. It seems to be slipping between the 2-3 shift....I took it to the dealer and I believe they thought it was the wave plate, but didn't do a breakdown to verify. Your videos are extremely informative, but I was curious of whether or not this symptom sounds about right for a wave plate and what was your reasoning for doing the timing? I'm still driving the vehicle... Currently I have 145k on it. Also would you call this a weekend or week project? Again, thanks for the info, and great video.
Well, the wave plate is used in 3-5-R. So, it could be related. Most people, though, lose reverse and then the transmission gets REALLY bad. I replaced ours before it broke, so we never had any issues. If you're doing this at home without a lift, as I was, it's probably closer to a week project than a weekend project.
I know it's been a while since you made this video but I wanted to ask what year is/was your Enclave? I have a 2008 myself and it once in a while does not shift passed 1st gear. I have to turn vehicle off and on 2 or 3 times before it will change gears normally.
hey chris, thank you so much for making the videos. im gonna be doing this in a few weeks just waiting for parts. do you have a video of the engine removal? did you disconnect power steering, a/c, and brake lines. i have 2008 enclave 2wd with the MY9 version of the 6t75 and its been slipping in 3rd and 5th for about 2 months. i would also appreciate any advice you can give me. thanks again!
+o2civic21 Hi O2Civic, I have some videos that I still need to try to edit that gives an overview of the engine removal prep, but chances are I will not get those videos finished in the next few weeks (as much as I wish I could). You do disconnect the brake lines at the connection to the flexible lines in each wheel well. You disconnect the A/C lines at the quick disconnects that go into the firewall. But you do not need to disconnect the power steering lines as the entire steering hydraulic assembly travels with the subframe. The only other advice, if you are going to do it the way I did (with jacks instead of a lift), is that the intake will probably need to come off the engine before you drop it out the bottom because it's hard to get the front end high enough off the ground to clear the engine with the intake still attached. Good luck!
+Chris Bruno hey chris, one more thing. I noticed you said to disconnect the a/c quick disconnects. does that mean you didnt have to evac/ refill the a/c system?
+o2civic21 No - if you disconnect the A/C, you'll need to refill it. You can rent a vacuum pump for free at Autozone and then just refill with the appropriate number of cans for not much money at all. That said, you should know that I only dropped the entire engine because I was changing the timing chain. If all you are planning to work on is the transmission, there is a much simpler way to remove it. You'll need to rent or buy an engine support bar that holds the engine in place while you drop the subframe out from below. Then, you can remove the transmission without removing the whole engine and deal with all the stuff you are asking about.
+Chris Bruno Hey Chris, so I have my transmission apart and the clutch plate that is on top of my 3-5-R wave plate is severely damaged. I don't know how it could have gotten that way because the wave plate looks great. any thoughts?
Usually heat or lack of oil is what ruins clutch packs, but obviously it's impossible to diagnose over messages...(nevermind that I'm not a transmission tech.. Ha!) At this point, you really ought to break down the whole transmission to clean out any debris if the clutch was damaged that badly, though. Good luck!
Hi Paul, if the waveplate has already failed, then the symptoms are that it may not go into reverse or will go into a limp home mode when driving. If that is the case, then the transmission will need to be disassembled and this video may not be a lot of help. If it hasn't yet failed, then there won't be any symptoms and this video can help walk you through how to change the waveplate before it fails.
@@SlideruleRacingProducts Hi chris, I have a 2009 gmc acadia that I put it reverse and it barely moves and the rpms go really high. Do you think it might be the waveplate?
@@juanflores4279 It could be. If it doesn't do anything wrong in any of the forward gears, though, it is probably related to something else. If its the waveplate, you will see problems going forward in gears 3 & 5 also and it will be making a lot of noise because parts of the waveplate will be getting ground around inside the transmission.
Just a quick concern... My transmission just died on this exact model with the exact symptoms that require this repair. The TSB (09-07-30-012A) on the issue instructs the repair technician to clean out the transmission thoroughly - due to damaged pieces floating in that space - and replace a few of the additional items that were included in your kit. From your video, I'm thinking that you didn't do all that. Should that be a valid concern of mine? This video replaces about $4000 of cost with just hard work and know how - so it is well worth considering. Thanks for reading! -John.
Hi John, my waveplate hadn't failed yet. If the waveplate fails, then yes - all of the waveplate pieces will have spread throughout the transmission. My engine was out for me to change the timing chains and I changed the waveplates as a preventative measure. As you can see, when I remove the old waveplate it is entirely one piece.
just wanted to throw this out there maybe it will help someone, i work for a dealership and do these all day long, there is a special policy on some 07, 08 and 09 that goes 10 yrs or 120,000 miles, gm realized this was a big problem in these years so they added special policy 14404 some have it some dont i would call my gm dealer and ask b4 i spent a large amount on repairs also if it has a special policy and was done out of the normal gm warranty of 100,000 gm issues a refund if it was done and you can prove it was done at a repair facility, check it out if your having this problem, only wave plate failure though, not the tcm, hope it helps
Can you tell me if this apply's to the 2012 Sonic 6T30 transmission? It is clear GM has a "problem" with these series of transmissions, 6T30,40,45,70, and i believe 75 as well. They have a recall for the input turbine shaft causing limited speed which GM states can result in a crash. The wave plate breaking while the vehicle is in motion also produces the same symptoms as the turbine shaft, however, I don't believe GM acknowledges this.
No unfortunately not but depending on the dealer and if u are the original owner some dealerships will do a assessment and u pay so much and they pay the rest if u r the original owner, if so u may want to call the local dealership and ssk for assistance or gms number
for ANYONE with this problem GM has a special policiy on this issue up to 120k miles or something, if your within milaage then call the dealer and ask.
+Kevin Rogers just to add some clarification. Its 10yr/120k miles. i called my buick dealer and GM customer service and they told me that its only a certain batch that is included in the special adjustment program. even though my vehicle has the problem GM said they will not cover it because its not in the "batch" they also said even if it is included in the special adjustment program they will not cover it unless the transmission actually breaks. im sure i could get a manager or something and jump through hoops but that would mean that i would have to pay this out of pocket and then if they did cover it after jumping through their hoops i would have to fill out forms and wait for a reimbursement. i would rather do it myself for under 200 than have them give me the run around.
o2civic21 true statement, and straight up dude, i've only pulled one of these transmissions out before and it was a mother fucker, but i was also a lot less experienced then i am now, All i can say is have fun, i would recommend finding a 2 post lift dropping the cradle and resealing the front cover and oil pan if you plan on keeping the car, timing chains you need some tools to do it but is possible without them
the same thing happened to my Buick, so I took it in and wasn't sure what was wrong with it, because my vehicle was slipping gears turns out it was my wave plate in the transmission worn down and the man said its covered by GM it would have been 1500 dollar fix for them to do it lol praise god I don't have to spend that kinda money.
Makes one wonder why? It's a shame all these people may have to fork out the cash to pay for repairs but no one is willing to take GM to task for a flawed machine.
I appreciate this video, I have a 2008 Honda Accord Coupe and I can swap out the friken transmission right from the engine bay barely having to take out too many things. The enclave does not need this massive engine or removing the whole engine just to get to the transmission. The problem is dumb people who refuse to call out the American auto companies for the hypocrisy of building high torque 2.4 L diesel engines for the European market and giving us low torque low power monster piece of shit gasoline engines. It's the reason why everyone in the Western hemisphere is switching to Imports as we get the crappy products and they sell their best products over seas. Even Ford is going to be assembling Volkswagen vehicles on contract inside Ford plants lmfao. GM , Ford will be merging soon with other companies and FCA will surely go bust soon again as the Crap Pacifica is a joke and no one is buying that garbage.

I didn't disassemble any further than what you saw.
@@SlideruleRacingProducts ok thank you Chris. 2008 malibu with 81k miles and 3-5-reverse wave plate broke completely into two pieces 😠 ridiculous...
@@rickygray7767 Be careful with that. When I did mine, the wave plate hadn't broken yet. Once it breaks, if it any pieces make their way around your trans, then a more significant breakdown and overhaul is needed.
Thank you Chris
Where you buy that parts at
It was quite a while ago. I believe I purchased them from GMPartsDirect.
@@SlideruleRacingProducts thank you sir
Excellent video thank you for posting I’m going to attempt this on my daughters car thanks again
Good luck!
Is this a 6t70 transmission i have a 2011 equinox with small engine is this the same tranny i got ?
@@SlideruleRacingProducts thats bad news but thanks anyway.
Good luck!
Thank you, it was very helpful
I had this done by the GM dealer under warrenty, but after the repair i,m getting two or three miles to the gallon less fuel economy . anyone know why that might be?
Thanks Chris. Good video. What's your preference? Changing in vehicle or out? There are a few videos on engine removal, but nobody is as detailed as your video.Maybe you can do one on engine removal?
I will see what I can put together. I wasn't quite as good about the
video recording when I pulled the engine but I do have some videos. I
still have some engine timing chain videos for the Enclave that I keep
meaning to process as well. If I had to do it over again, I'd do it the
same way, I think... Pulling the engine was a pain, but it was a
straight forward process. And once it was out, it was sooo much better
for access. I will try to work on those engine removal videos, but
please don't hold your breath.. I've been working 13 hour days on a big
project at work which hasn't been leaving me much 'home-project' time.
Good luck!
I know this video is old but by any chance do you know wich one is the speed sensor?
Speed sensors are in the valve body area
I know this is old video, but did you happen to video the engine/trans cradle removal?
I had recorded some video of the engine removal process, but never put it into anything for youtube. You could checkout my timelapse video of putting the engine back in.. it was almost like that in reverse.
is it possible to do this without removing the whole engine?
It should not spin around the splines on the hub
Hey i know its an old comment but did you finally get this back together? If so how is it holding up?
hi Chris.. i have 2008 buick Enclave i got transmission problems and obd code 2723cluch pressure control solenoid 5 thanks
my question is why is anyone changing this wave plate at all and for what reason or trouble issue?
Is this the same process for the Acadia?
Acadias of the same years and AWD would look exactly the same.
My wifes 2008 Acadia shutters at about all speeds. Is this caused by the wave plates? I had the transmission flushed and it got worse.
Did you get it fixed?
2007 gmc acadia broken waved plate but didn't have the the snap ring should I order a new one also or just the plate
I think you'll be fine to reuse the snap ring. However, you should know that if your wave plate is actually broken into pieces, you need to disassemble the transmission more than I did in this video to get all of the debris out.
Thank you
@@SlideruleRacingProducts Hi there. Im having an issue with my 2011 Acadia (delayed shift to reverse and slip when shifting to 3rd and 5th. 1st, 2nd, 4th and 6th shift perfect. Took it to the dealer and they said it was the 3-5-R wave plate. So by replacing that one ring in this video should fix that issue? Thanks!
Just thought about it, and it may also be slipping in 5th
Well, the wave plate is used in 3-5-R. So, it could be related. Most people, though, lose reverse and then the transmission gets REALLY bad. I replaced ours before it broke, so we never had any issues. If you're doing this at home without a lift, as I was, it's probably closer to a week project than a weekend project.
Did you end up replacing the parts yourself? Gm has a recall on these transmissions btw
I know it's been a while since you made this video but I wanted to ask what year is/was your Enclave? I have a 2008 myself and it once in a while does not shift passed 1st gear. I have to turn vehicle off and on 2 or 3 times before it will change gears normally.
Ours was a 2008. Good luck!
mines it’s doing the same, not shifting to 2nd gear , please let me know if this fix works on yours, cuz i don’t have problems in 3,5 or reverse
i hope this isn't the issue with my 07 acadia but if it is you just eased my mind about fixing it thank you for the video!!
It's probably a good idea to replace it before it breaks and takes something else out with it.
hey chris, thank you so much for making the videos. im gonna be doing this in a few weeks just waiting for parts. do you have a video of the engine removal? did you disconnect power steering, a/c, and brake lines. i have 2008 enclave 2wd with the MY9 version of the 6t75 and its been slipping in 3rd and 5th for about 2 months. i would also appreciate any advice you can give me. thanks again!
+o2civic21 Hi O2Civic,
I have some videos that I still need to try to edit that gives an overview of the engine removal prep, but chances are I will not get those videos finished in the next few weeks (as much as I wish I could).
Good luck!
SO WHAT IS THE SYMTOMES??? IN ORDER TO THIS JOB?
Hi Paul, if the waveplate has already failed, then the symptoms are that
it may not go into reverse or will go into a limp home mode when
driving. If that is the case, then the transmission will need to be
disassembled and this video may not be a lot of help. If it hasn't yet
failed, then there won't be any symptoms and this video can help walk
you through how to change the waveplate before it fails.
Thanks. For you help...
Thank you for posting this extremely helpful video! 👍🏼👍🏼
where do you order your transmission parts from?
Hi John, I bought the seal kit from the local dealer. It was about $120.
+Chris Bruno thanks!
Chris Bruno Thank you, Chris! That's exactly what I needed to know.
just wanted to throw this out there maybe it will help someone, i work for a dealership and do these all day long, there is a special policy on some 07, 08 and 09 that goes 10 yrs or 120,000 miles, gm realized this was a big problem in these years so they added special policy 14404 some have it some dont i would call my gm dealer and ask b4 i spent a large amount on repairs also if it has a special policy and was done out of the normal gm warranty of 100,000 gm issues a refund if it was done and you can prove it was done at a repair facility, check it out if your having this problem, only wave plate failure though, not the tcm, hope it helps
This just happened on my wife's 2010, with 65k miles. are 10's not included at all?
No unfortunately not but depending on the dealer and if u are the original owner some dealerships will do a assessment and u pay so much and they pay the rest if u r the original owner, if so u may want to call the local dealership and ssk for assistance or gms number
Ask
joez701 i'm in that process right now. Have been on the phone with GM, and the car is at the dealership. The diagnosis is the wave plate
wow you really did this the hard way man!
all though i give you major props for doing this on the ground
What is the easy way?
I'm from San Jose California my Saturn i believe has this problem
for ANYONE with this problem GM has a special policiy on this issue up to 120k miles or something, if your within milaage then call the dealer and ask.
+Kevin Rogers just to add some clarification. Its 10yr/120k miles. i called my buick dealer and GM customer service and they told me that its only a certain batch that is included in the special adjustment program. even though my vehicle has the problem GM said they will not cover it because its not in the "batch" they also said even if it is included in the special adjustment program they will not cover it unless the transmission actually breaks. im sure i could get a manager or something and jump through hoops but that would mean that i would have to pay this out of pocket and then if they did cover it after jumping through their hoops i would have to fill out forms and wait for a reimbursement. i would rather do it myself for under 200 than have them give me the run around.
o2civic21 true statement, and straight up dude, i've only pulled one of these transmissions out before and it was a mother fucker, but i was also a lot less experienced then i am now, All i can say is have fun, i would recommend finding a 2 post lift dropping the cradle and resealing the front cover and oil pan if you plan on keeping the car, timing chains you need some tools to do it but is possible without them
the same thing happened to my Buick, so I took it in and wasn't sure what was wrong with it, because my vehicle was slipping gears turns out it was my wave plate in the transmission worn down and the man said its covered by GM it would have been 1500 dollar fix for them to do it lol praise god I don't have to spend that kinda money.
how many miles did you have? I'm guessing yours was under warranty otherwise, why did GM cover it? Did they recall yours?
Something so simple, yet no recall.
Makes one wonder why? It's a shame all these people may have to fork out the cash to pay for repairs but no one is willing to take GM to task for a flawed machine.
JM811Cars there is a recall. Pay attention. It takes 30 seconds to look it up on Google.
Thank you! You are my hero :-)
