- In this video I can pair my Frank's boots to my Nick's boots talk about the differences between the main 3 custom boot manufacturers.
I also purchased a pair of Western work boots from Ariat. We'll talk about how those are doing for me in an upcoming video.
Dirt grime and wear and tear close ups will be at the end of the video. Where anyone who wants to see two years of work wear
I'll be cleaning up my Nicks and my Frank's before sending them back for a resole. Hopefully I'll get that video out soon let me know if that's something you're interested in seeing

White's has more custom options? Like what? I'd guess that being as big as they are, and corporate owned, that they would have the least options available?
Or do you just mean that they have more models?
Maybe more models would be a better way to say it. Seems as if there are more choices.
Appreciate the feed back
franks will do way more then nicks ! nicks is stream line franks will do lots of stuff knife pocket lighter pockets gun holster lots of things I asked nicks and they just won't !
@@truckcampertraveler7369 I want a glock 19 holster one. Plus they do colored stitching .
I want to see if they will do a mollie weave on a boot
@@NomadicINK I bet they would I asked about a g19 and frank told me it might work
I don't think you'll enjoy carrying a G19 on your boot. It's just too wide and heavy. A G43, shield, P365 would work a lot better.
Your best video yet! Nice job! We can rebuild those Nicks for you. No problem as the upper is in great shape!
Is this the real Nick's boots company
Yes it is. The manager Grant.
@@brycesailor7943 Is there a fake Nicks Boots company? ; )
@@nicksboots 😂 there probably is somewhere out there!
@@nicksboots I am in Minnesota and planning to come to Washington just to visit Nicks
with the kinda grime you collect on your boots, just taking a stiff nylon brush to them every few days would go a long way to keeping that leather in better condition. thanks for the vids!
You’re channel is one of the most helpful at the moment since I’m trying to get into Carpentry trade school. I appreciate everything keep up the good work!
How did I not see this video til now? Great boot collection. Excellent video.
I was just on the Nick's site and saw your Nick's before their rebuild! Pretty awesome they used your boots as the picture under the repair section. Your boots are recognizable for sure haha
Very informative video. I've ordered my type 1 commanders. Can't wait to get them
You nailed it right on the head. The exact reason I am watching this video is to choose between those different brands
Great video, James! I almost didn't recognize you with the clean shave. Stay safe out there!
Saddle soap and then oil those nicks bro! Love your boot vids. The reason I subscribe.
Excellent video!!
I am planning on taking a trip to Franks boots next year.
Since I live in chicago ill be buying 2 pairs.
When I get there I'll drop your name to frank and say I'm there because I watch your videos.
Hell yeah. They are super chill guys. Say hi to Jr and frank for me for sure
Yup Nick’s is the way to go i have a Black Builderpro smooth upper and roughout lowers with honey vibram super comfortable honey sole wears out little faster than the black vibram lug sole
I might go with some 8 or 10 inch lace ups from Nick's Frank's or JK, and the made in usa Justin pull ons
Definitely agree that custom is the way to go.I prefer the Nicks with a 10 inch top. Thanks for the video. Stay safe during this time.
tapers have the opposite problem. Mud sucks out the moisture in the leather. I never get soles worn out, before the leather is ruined. And I prefer wedges, as the tread wears out, less mud tracked around. As always, great vid man
Franks just rebuilt my Whites over the winter. Due to a toenail surgery I haven't been able to wear them much. They look incredible though, they're super comfortable. Found a pair of discontinued Hathorn 110 boots on ebay last fall for $240. Talked to whites about them. According to them they are the same materials as the smokejumper. Just a different last and McKay stitched. The Helitac actually replaced the 110. I'm super happy. You might be able to find some if your patient.
All the Vibram heels have a void in them to allow for some cushion as you walk. The softer honey material just wore through.
Thanks for the video
I bought a pair of White's Hathorns on sale to give this style a try and I have a pair of Frank's Type 1s on order based on some of your videos and other reviews. I think I'm going to end up going with Nick's for a pair of casual boots/shoes (shoots?) because I think they make the best looking casual boots.
I go with all U.S. Nicks, last week was the first time I paid $535.00 for a pair of work boots cept for Chippewa engeneere boots when I was welding.
Nicks seems uses a pale suede-ish interior liner that i like. I ordered an E size but it seems very wide, wider than a white's EE. it fit me alright.
Upoloaded right before I enter work! Goodmorning to you too james!
I have foot problems, so I'll have some days where my feet just plain hurt and days where I can forget I have my boots on.
I'm sure I could have even better days with a more custom fit boot and the day might come, but so far my $200 Justin conductor's have been good to me.
I got a year out of the first pair and am a couple months In on the 2nd pair.
I didn't clean the first pair often enough because I didn't have a boot dryer, so all the dirty water and such I got on them made 'em smell enough that a resole was a no-go so I had to just buy a new pair.
I looked at White's boots and I disagree with you on that they have more options. I have a narrow boot and I did not see any B width boots offered by them
I've heard that it's best for your feet if you have more than one pair of boots. Gives your feet a chance to move and breath.
great video
but you didn't tell us which one is the best...
Dude if you’re going to pay for custom boots buy a damn bottle of conditioner and use it 3-4 times a year! If you don’t take care of the uppers there won’t be any sole replacements‼️😷👍🇺🇸🥾🇺🇸
I'd love to get a brush to these
Is it possible to get a good year welt on a boot that never had one? Specifically a Carolina glue construction.
Do a comparison on the two big Canadian guys Dayton and viberg
Twisted x. Current ones still going since 2019
How do I decide between: WESCO, Whites, Nick's, JR or Franks?!?
I think you should get georgia boot romeos and try them out at work
I’m stuck between vibergs and daytons
JK is great. They probably have the least stock models but they’ll customize almost to any extent and have the shortest lead times.
No Wesco?
Why send Nick's back to Nick's & Frank's back to Frank's?
I'd think you'd send them both back to whichever company you've decided you like the most & does the best work?
I can say first hand franks has better customer service
@@truckcampertraveler7369 I'm sure they do.
If it was me I'd send both boots to Frank's.
I want to know why he isn't
I got a nicks rebuild on a whites boot, it took 6+ months but otherwise no complaints, they got my order right.
What do you think about jk boots?????
I’m curious in this as well. Any update on your feelings with JK? I’m trying to decide between Frank’s and JK
@@JayyBird93 I have 2 pair of JK boots. They are awesome boots! I ordered my second pair a few months after buying my 1st pair cause i liked them so much. I didn't have to wait too long for them either. Hardly a break in period. I wore my send pair to work right away with no problem. If you choose to go with them you wont be dissapointed.
@@chadhall2593 thanks, that helps.
I ordered a pair of jk boots Dec 9 20 took about two weeks before they called me about the fit and order .. so they’ve been really helpful plus you speak directly to the boot maker .. probably post a video when they arrive
Yea u def aint getting 3 years out of the ariats, ive got like 4 pairs of them and some other slip ons and metatarsals and tired of wasting my money getting ready to order nicks hot shots this week
quick brush and oil would go a long way. It'd make them last much longer. Geesh those aren't thowaway boots.
I’m thinking about JK boots just found out about them actually. I initially bought a parish whites smoke jumpers I think I started the process late February beginning of March and I still do not have them versus size was wrong send them back then I had a squeaky so in the meantime a wait for that I ordered another pair of smoke jumpers but with a thorough good vibrant so they sent the boot worth what they call their crispy sole Sent that back to get the correct soul and once I receive that back sent back the original smoke jumpers to get a new sole And resized I’m currently still waiting on that supposed to be here tonight but the second pair I had made that they Messed sole up on my left foot is still too big I just don’t understand what you have so I’m definitely in the market to try to find a company that can make me a custom pair of boots that fit my different sized feet! I was assuming whites is the best out there considering to me it seems like they were the first out there and it seems like everybody branched off to create their own business but I don’t know would appreciate feedback
you should give JK boots a call and talk to them and see what they have to say.
I have 2 pair of JK's. They are great boots. HArdly a break in period. Didn't take too long to get them either. If you sedide to get a pair you'll like them.
Hi if there is no need for steel toe why don't you buy second hand military boots for less tan 50 euro and pass a good year out of them .....remember army boots are mare for a purpose not with cost in mind...
Man you're tough on boots. I just have Redwings Danners and domestic made Carolinas the Redwings are my most expensive. I brush them everyday after use and clean with saddle soap and redwing voot oil once a month. All 3 of my boots still look new except for a couple scratches on the toes. I don't work with sheet rock or spackle though it looks like you do lots of that type of work which will destroy boots. So you have a very good excuse
Looks like both of those need a complete rebuild lol
What size are you
10.5 ee most of the time.
Pull the sheet metal screws out of the soles for God's sake!! The ones that look like wood screws and recessed into the tread with even spacing, are holding the soles together. The ones that are all clustered up on the heal are definitely screws you must have stepped on... FYI. Great video and reviews!
it costs 200 dollars for a resole?
160ish for a resole depending on some type.
I was charged 200 for a rebuild at the same price as a resole but I got the fire rated soles so it was more
Why spend so much money to not take care of them that's the point of buying expensive boots is for them to last longer than normal
Now i know how long they will last if i don't take care of them 😆
@@NomadicINK that is true if you were testing them out
I was actually just lazy. But ive fixed each boot so we can see how they look resoled and rebuilt.
This time around I'll keep them a bit cleaner and oiled up.
I get the Nick back in a week and I'll compare the 2 boots again.
And id agree it's pretty stupid not to care for these as ive done.
But hey we got to see them beat down and rebuilt and that might help people make a choice to actually buy these boots at a 500 plus price tag.
@@NomadicINK are you going to make a video showing all of them rebuilt
@@MrStreetninja007 yeah. The franks are done and the nicks will be finished next week. I got pictures in the rebuild stage the manager sent me on Instagram.
They are looking nice.
So maybe a few weeks and I'll be able to post it.
My dude, when you step on a fucking nail or a huge screw that wasn't put into the by franks or nicks... you should probably pull it out!!! Then you will wear down the sole more evenly when there isn't a giant screw on the right side of the boot making your step uneven. That was hilarious to see and incredible you can't notice a giant screw with a washer embedded into the sole.
You definitely work in your boots and are certainly a terrible boot dad, ha!
