I am still waiting for the Patriot vs Drew's logger video that was teased several times... I have Patriots and the new Drew's contractor boots in rotation with a couple pairs of Nicks and they are both keepers for me.
One thing I've found is that I've gotta have a boot sized for winter and one sized for summer, because I'm somebody who has to have toe wiggle room. That means something that still gives me this with thick winter socks, and one that fits the same with summer socks.
I have a pair of thick flat leather insoles from Wesco. They come out in the winter for thick socks, and go in for the summer and thin socks....but it is more fun to have 2 sets of boots!
The Jim Green Razorbacks are my go-to work boots but mine are permanently banished to the garage. I had trodden through a sulfur separation facility on an audit and so far the stench hasn’t lessened. Fantastic boots though.
Been rocking the Jim Green Razorback steel toes on a big job for the past couple of months and they are awesome! Go about 5-10 miles a day on rocks, dirt, concrete, steel grating, caged ladders, etc it handles them all very well. Only thing I can might be an issue for some is the insole it comes with is a little hard. I personally like them, but if you don’t then you can easily swap them out for whichever ones you want.
Got my Nicks last August and absolutely love them. Having a high arch means inserts or ridiculous amounts of foam and after getting the Nicks it is hard to look back.
My boot journey (like 5 years so take this with a grain of salt; I also work in a warehouse so, maybe take NaCl and that’s it) has ended with Irish Setter’s 8’inch moc toe. Absolutely love them.
All I wear is whites, Wesco, and Nicks and eventually I will try a pair of Franks most of my boots are going on 20+ years and if you oil them with the OBENAUFS and take care of them. They will last a very long time. My boots at this point owe me nothing but they are in pristine shape. All I do is send them back for resoling to me and my opinion, I only use vibram soles They’re the best in the business and I’ve been using them for over 40 years. And thank you for sharing the info on JK boots they make a nice boot without a doubt, but what you just showed me in your video. The front of the boot doesn’t look right at all and it shouldn’t be at that price. Keep these great videos coming and have a great day. Sincerely, Matt. Also check out Limmer boots they are a great walking boot once you break them in.
You’d have no soles left in less than 5 months doing my job, believe me I’ve been down that road with nicks and whites, sharp ground concrete after my highway diamond grinder makes a pass eats every sole up but the absolute hardest ones around. And non he reviews are in that class

I started my quality-boot journey around 8 years ago with a pair of iron rangers. Bougt Wesco Jobmasters, 2 pair of Jim Green chuckas, and a pair of Drews contractors arrived last month. The Drews are on a completely different level than the Redwings, and imo even superior to the Wescos. Drews version of Horween Chrome Excel / Seidel Double Shot is unbelievable. Drews have to be the best quality to value boots in existence today. To top it off they fit better than anything else I own.
I just got a pair of custom steel toe tire sole razorbacks (the ones featured on the jim green channel a couple weeks ago) and they're probably the only work boots I'll be buying going forward, so comfortable and not even as heavy as I was expecting.

Really appreciate your videos! I don't work in the trades. But I wear boots daily just because I ride motorcycles and need something substantial. Also, I live in Minnesota and (other than this year), there's often snow on the ground. I have narrow feet and got tired of poor fitting boots that didn't last long. Ended up splurging on a pair of custom fitted Whites. I've had them resoled and rebuilt. I got a pair of Nicks for a second pair that I could wear when sending the Whites in, as well as just for variety. I wear them most often now. Occasionally I throw in a pair of sneakers, but I'm very happy with the Nicks, and also like the Whites. Yes they're heavy, but they fit great, very comfy, and durable.
That's interesting about yout OT's. I followed JK's sizing after they updated it to fall more in-line eith other PNW makers and they're my best fitting boots.
Hey Carl, Funny you mentioned the Whites being a bit tight, mine are actually loose one me lol! Same ones too just in black…. Soft toe Smokejumpers. My all time favorites are my Nick’s Urban loggers though personally 🤙
I think those JKs are nice looking.. I have a pair of Drew's arriving today or tomorrow.., same leather combo as yours.., looking forward to it.. otherwise I have some old Nick's Packers and with a cuban heel,, they're not very practical imo
I've been thinking about getting the Drew's logger boots; but I'm not sure about the sizing. I've never owned any PNW boots, so I'm not familiar with sizing. The only comparable options that I have experience are Danner and Timberland. I'm not sure about the sizing.
The Drew’s are measured to the same linear length as the nicks and whites. Nicks has a foot measuring tutorial somewhere in the website. The only difference is that the standard toe-box for Drew’s is a lot roomier than others.
The Jim Greens definitely appeal to me because of the wide toebox, what about their heel though? That’s an area that is not as commonly talked about, my preference would be for a narrow heel/wide toebox combo, kind of like a Munson last.
I’m headed back out into the field after 2.5yrs in the office & looking for new boots. I’ve been doing my due diligence & researching daily. For now I’m just going to run with my Thorogood Steel Toe Moc Toes & a pair of Ariat Workhog XT. But going to give Drew’s a look and contemplating on pulling the trigger on some black Thorogood Moc Toes. But I’m going to running on Service & Small Projects, so I’m also leaving light weight & agile but also sturdy. So maybe leaning towards a carbon/comp/alloy toe & yes, a wedge sole. I need comfort at my age & while I love those Thorogood’s, the steel toe weight does catch up with me.
I prefer leather work boots , but I have found during the Pennsylvania humid summers that my feet are less prone to getting Athletes foot , when I wear a lighter pair of the Carhartt boots that allow them to breathe and get the moisture out , I've tried using powders and I'm not organized enough to remember to take and change socks , while they are not a year round wear they do have a place im my wardrobe
3 boots to keep. 1) carharrt 11 inch wellington steel toe. 2) 6 inch timberland direct attatch steel toe and 3) extra tuff rain boots fisherman boot like 5 or 6" non steel just rain 🌧 and slipper style
I wish the razorbacks worked for me but I don't like boots with a low height toe box, it was too uncomfortable for me. I have the drews but they are pretty heavy so I only use them with thick socks on cold days and snowy days. My go to boots for work is the Red Wing moc toe, love that they are light weight (compared to the drews) and it has a nice thick leather vamp.
Re: the Razorbacks. Try going up a half size. I bought my normal boot size and they felt small. I realize the toe box was low. Tried a half size up and am quite happy with them
Got the Jim Green Numzaan in Wallnut with frog sole. Now thinking about a custom Jim Green Boot perhaps in reversed out buffalo leather. Like this brand (value)
Great choice on the 3 pairs you’re keeping. I know exactly what you mean about boots that don’t breathe, a boot can be outstanding but if my feet sweat and stay wet, then I lose interest in the boots, especially if they start stinking quickly, I’m done lol. I typically do unlined or leather lined now, I’ll just wear super warm wool socks for cold days, I’d rather my feet breathe then be wet all day and stink to high heaven lol!
I feel like without telling everyone your shoe size, it's a little like speaking mandarin Chinese. I'm a 13D , went to a 13E in Thursdays, and they're still a little snug, but mostly in the length. I can feel the tops of my toe nails. I got some Danner Slip-on Chelsea's in 13M and they're comfortable right out of the box! I didn't OVER pay with black Friday @ $172. I would try Jim Green , i wish i knew your shoe size for a reference. I'm guessing you're like a 10 wide. As a 13 things get different ✨️
Would Jim Greens be a comfortable boot for warehouse work? On concrete daily at a large, popular, warehouse store. I’ved used Tim Pros, Keen, and Merrill, interchangeably so they dry/breathe. I still have lower back pain (I’m over 50 years old and, ahem heavier), I don’t do much heavy lifting, plenty of walking and need toe protection (leather at the least, usually composite to keep them lighter). Suggestions? I’m all ears, thanks.
I’ve been in aviation for a very long time I love RedWings & Keen’s some guys like Merrill. I need heavy duty work boots as do many of the men in my field. I work in an environment that requires safety toes, eletrically safe, chemicals & aviation fuel this this has been an education for me a few of those boots aren’t in aviation to my knowledge. I get about 18 months of wear out of my boots. I rotate them too so I’ll always buy two pair. I keep fresh dry boots daily. Thanks for the info 😎
100% share the Nicks bias, but I had a pair of Redwings Iron Rangers before my Nicks. I just always find myself reaching for them over my Redwings, JKs, or any of the 5 pair of quasi-military/quasi-work boots I had before my Nicks. They break into such a slipper feeling boot it's ridiculous.
Nicks over sands the stitchdown to the point of always having to blow the first row of stitches on a re-sole...it would be nice if they left more like JK did on your pair...who cares about the extra stuff sticking out. Jim Green wide toe box...very good stuff.
I can't make myself get rid of any boots I have. So, I guess, my 2 Danner's , my 3 pairs of White's and my new Jim Greens are not going anywhere. Pulled the plug and ordered a Nick's Americana boot today. And, still want a pair White's MP Service boots with the cap toe as well.. I hate having this addiction cause I don't have any will power when I see new kind of boot...
Do you still have your Nick's Urban Loggers? ... obviously not in your video but I was curious. Your video of those boots got me started on my first nice boot order of said Urban loggers for myself.
Hello! I need help, i wear redwing supersole 2.0. I love the boot, its helped with my back problems from wearing loggers in the past. But i have noticed the quality wears out so fast compared to how they used to hold up. Can anyone recommend another boot similar with the same sole style. I have also worn the redwing iron rangers and enjoy that boot but i need something with a steel toe. Thanks Carl Murawaski team!
I love my Wesco's! I've never heard anyone say that they are too pretty to wear...lol😂 My first pair are 10 years old now. I'm sorry you couldn't bring yourself to put them to work. I love your channels.
I’ve had three pairs of JKs and all three were normal sizing, nothing strange about it. They’ve been my favorite boots. Carl I think you’re off on this one
Just wanted to clarify here that Drew's does make boots in the USA. I got a pair a few years ago and they're great but priced similarly to the other PNW boots. I just got mine back from their first rebuild (I used to do a lot of herbicide work and the moisture, surfactants, and terrain were pretty hard on the leather). They've been every bit as good since. If you want Drew's you can still choose some models built in USA, but you're gonna pay for it.
I have a Frank's Patriot is EE width and a Drews Contractor in EE and the whole boot is looser, they said the sizing is exactly the same and only the pinky toe is wider.
Been watching your channel quite a bit lately. Looking for a pair of daily work boots, with a steel or composite toe, for primary warehouse use. 10 to 12 hours on a smooth concrete floor walking an average of 16 miles a day. Any recommendations?
Shop Pair: Georgia Boot Wellington Slip on Pair for random stuff: Red Wing Rugged Chelsea’s Logging Style Pair: Whites General Work: Whites Perry Select. Carhart Boots hold no place in boot conversations.
My ears pricked up when you mentioned the squeak in your JK OTs. I have a pair of Vibergs that squeak in the layered sole construction, under the ball of my foot. It’s driving me insane. Was that the same thing you had on your JKs?
Drew’s are the way to go. For an inexpensive boot with the same build quality as White’s and Nicks. The Drew’s Logger MIM come with pre-molded leather insoles to accelerate the break-in period, a roomy toe-box, and white-cross vibram soles that are meant for extreme weather and are softer than the standard ones. You won’t regret buying them 🤘🏽
@@amateurstanding yep. The Rainiers are my daily drivers as a commercial service plumber. I wear the smokejumpers if I need to dig or if I am going to be on a ladder a lot.
@@joshuapopich5215 just dropped off a pair of smokejumpers for a resole and a pair of builder pros for a rebuild at Frank’s a couple days ago. It really is the best experience between all of the shops, IMO. Whites probably second for customer service.
I thought you had a pair of Frank's Patriots? I have too many boots, also, and the only 3 I wear are Nicks Overlanders in BWF cause they're beautiful, Franks Front Range in walnut cause they're just badass, they feel like an old baseball glove, and uhhh blunnies or African Rangers, but those are barely boots. I have some newish Numzaans in natural and I love the leather but the welt is huge and they're soooo clunky. They're really close to being awesome but they just don't look that great.
🤣🤣 you're so funny. I think I still can wear those boots. It looks universal to me. I often buy at the boys (children's) jeans section. And I know they build men's stuff wayyyyyy stronger/long lasting than women's stuff.
I was hoping to learn more about the OT than just a sizing issue since I'm curious if they are a great hiking option compared to all that extra mid and outsole or whatever. Most guys won't want the high logging heels if they are doing warehouse work and such.
I don't know why the Wesco aren't the backup pair for the Nick's, then. But we're only three pairs in, so... [and I think the Nick's run small that I shoulda got a wide maybe, BUT apparently they are not the same as walking on the gemming, so we'll see if they break in as instructed.]
I had no luck getting the Drew's to fit and lost money on return shipping. The OT only come in 8 and only three colors unless willing to wait for more customization.
I know a lot of people don't like or are not used to the jk boots and that bigger lip. But jk explains why its there. Its to provide extra wear protection. The lip can wear down a lot more for more resoles on the boots. Plus if you spend a lot of time on your knees that lip helps protect your toes on the boots from wearing as much.

Can't go wrong with Jim Green. 😉
Work boots and you did the tecovas. Let’s see a video on work pull ons. Maybe the thorogoods, they are easier to get then red wing pecos.
This is good inspiration to trim the fat from my sneaker collection. Impossible for me to get down to three though 😅
Poor Wesco boots never even got tried out.......I don't work outside for a living but do have some workish type boots.
I need a pair of work boots. Finally got an entry level engineering job after 2 years of applying. Graduated college with no hope haha
Love the vids lately!
The absolute BEST boots I’ve ever had the pleasure to own were a pair of Chippewa waterproof laceups I bought about 30 years ago.
What's a good rubber boot I don't like the Dunlop or Alco I am a cement finisher and spend a lot of time in rubber boots
Wish they made those Drew's with composite toes
Need to get Canada West! Amazing boot
Great review and insight
Much appreciated!
I love my Wesco's! I've never heard anyone say that they are too pretty to wear...lol😂
My first pair are 10 years old now.
I'm sorry you couldn't bring yourself to put them to work.
I love your channels.
I’ve had three pairs of JKs and all three were normal sizing, nothing strange about it. They’ve been my favorite boots. Carl I think you’re off on this one
They’ve had like three different sizing changes while everyone else has used the same sizing forever and size like each other.
I would bet the builder pro could be cut down to a height that you prefer when you send them in for a re sole
I like your choices. But I’ve gotta have a dress pair of boots also
What is a Norwegian Storm welt? And, is there a boot with this design that you'd recommend? Thanks.
Still need that franks patriot vs Drew’s logger video
What is the leather chair you use in some videos?
Gotta try out the Danner Power Foreman, a good looking and tough american work boot.
I have a Frank's Patriot is EE width and a Drews Contractor in EE and the whole boot is looser, they said the sizing is exactly the same and only the pinky toe is wider.
I'm sorry, which boot is the looser EE?...
@@orangeruffian The Drew's, sorry.
Been watching your channel quite a bit lately. Looking for a pair of daily work boots, with a steel or composite toe, for primary warehouse use. 10 to 12 hours on a smooth concrete floor walking an average of 16 miles a day. Any recommendations?
What did you buy?
Do you recommend Danner work boots?
Nice picks! Now what about horse ridding, nicks jk or chisos??
I'm looking at getting the Drew's Packer, good balance for work and riding
Shop Pair: Georgia Boot Wellington
Slip on Pair for random stuff: Red Wing Rugged Chelsea’s
Logging Style Pair: Whites
General Work: Whites Perry Select.
Carhart Boots hold no place in boot conversations.
No steel toe rubber boots in the rotation?
What about your Tanker Pros?
What brands of t-shirts do you wear, please?
My ears pricked up when you mentioned the squeak in your JK OTs. I have a pair of Vibergs that squeak in the layered sole construction, under the ball of my foot. It’s driving me insane. Was that the same thing you had on your JKs?
Try ballistol on the insole, maybe a few times let it get into the leather it worked for my motorcycle boots.
I got some OTs I don’t have an issue with the squeak, they come with spenco insoles. Overall I’m very happy with those.
What about the Tanker Boots? Or are they already gone? 😅
Already gone!
@@CarlMurawski Must have missed that 😅👍
I have been looking at Drew's myself. If Carl says they are legit that's all I need to hear. Thanks Carl your knowledge is well received!
Only problem is they don’t do many different widths
Drew’s are the way to go. For an inexpensive boot with the same build quality as White’s and Nicks. The Drew’s Logger MIM come with pre-molded leather insoles to accelerate the break-in period, a roomy toe-box, and white-cross vibram soles that are meant for extreme weather and are softer than the standard ones. You won’t regret buying them 🤘🏽
Are you still going to get new boots that come out and review them?
1 Franks Rainiers 8” Christy wedge
2 Whites Smokejumpers rebuilt by Franks w/ honey vibram
3 Georgia waterproof Romeos
Think I’m goin to have Frank do some Rainiers for me next. You like em? I also had my smokejumpers rebuilt by Frank’s. FrankenWhites
@@amateurstanding yep. The Rainiers are my daily drivers as a commercial service plumber. I wear the smokejumpers if I need to dig or if I am going to be on a ladder a lot.
@@amateurstandingFrank’s is rebuilding my White’s Foreman’s into the Rainier model
@@joshuapopich5215 just dropped off a pair of smokejumpers for a resole and a pair of builder pros for a rebuild at Frank’s a couple days ago. It really is the best experience between all of the shops, IMO. Whites probably second for customer service.
@@amateurstandingI have Frankenwhite’s as well, Foreman’s converted to the Rainiers.
I do, but I destroyed them in a comparison video coming soon.
boots a few year ago it was sneakers what will be next???
🤣🤣 you're so funny. I think I still can wear those boots. It looks universal to me. I often buy at the boys (children's) jeans section. And I know they build men's stuff wayyyyyy stronger/long lasting than women's stuff.
*they look universal to me.
Sorry English isn't my first language
What happened to your Franks Patriots?
Patriot VS Drew's plzzzzz!!
What about the Patriot? Are you going to keep it?
"patriot" 😂
@@Highland_PaddyJK OT also come in 6"...
Yes, but not 10.
I got some OT Redwood, they are very comfortable for hiking.
Cool, wanna buy some OTs?
@@CarlMurawski whats the size??
I love my Wesco’s.
Can’t help but thinking the Nicks/Wesco boots like like overbuilt witches boots 😅🤷♂️
When someone's says "they're too nice to wear", that's a nice way of saying you don't like the way they look. Wesco definitely overhyped.
I love the thick lip
Let's make some wonder about the urban loggers
All i wear is White’s and Thursday’s.
After going with cowboy boots for work, i can never go back to laced
