Emotorad is set to revolutionize the electric cycle industry with the construction of the world's largest electric cycle gigafactory in Pune. Co-founder Kunal Gupta reveals that the factory's first phase is nearing completion and is projected to go live in August this year. Once fully operational, the factory will have the capacity to manufacture 5 lakh electric cycles annually, making it South Asia’s largest electric cycle factory.
But Emotorad’s ambitions don’t stop there; they plan to produce not only electric cycles but also key components like battery packs, motors, displays, and chargers in-house. Gupta aims to increase domestic sourcing to 92% by the end of 2024, emphasizing India's role as a manufacturing hub.
In other news, EV startup EVage partners with DG Innovate, founded by a former Tesla executive, to establish a joint venture in India. This move aims to utilize EVage’s innovative manufacturing technology for producing efficient motors, while Pravaig Dynamics extends offers to Tesla interns, strengthening its team for the launch of their first electric car, DEFY.
Additionally, Mindgrove Technologies introduces India’s first commercial SoC chip, poised to revolutionize IoT devices and potentially disrupt the EV market. Meanwhile, Sarvam AI collaborates with Pine Labs Setu to launch Sesame, India’s first LLM tailored for the BFSI sector.
Zomato’s latest initiative, "Weather Union," offers real-time hyperlocal weather information for free, showcasing the company's commitment to community welfare.
In the funding landscape, Indian startups raised a total of 89 million dollars this week, with notable investments in GreenCell Mobility, Superplum, Myelin Foundry, Ecozen, Atomgrid, and 50Fin.
