Norbs Gaming I think that was the first season of Survivor I ever watched too. People hare him but he made that season watchable as everyone else just sat on their asses. So good

Kelly's idol play proves if u have a big alliance SPLIT THE VOTES
And it also proves how much exhaustion can mess with your head
however with no idol plays at all that season, they had no reason to believe that she even had one. very true for later seasons though!!
but u do know that u can never know how strong your big alliance is. for all you know, some of the people in ur alliance are mingling with the opposition, and all they need u to do is split the vote to give them the numbers. we saw that happen later that season with Stephen Fishbach
That was so frustrating to watch for the first time! I liked Wentworth but it was so dumb on their part!

Personal fav is the Russel on parv from HvV. The risk factor of him possibly idoling himself out + the fact it made the two of them go from premerge boots to final 3 is absolutely insane to me.

Honestly Micronesia’s my favorite season for jury reactions, because Eliza’s facial expressions, and every time Amanda did anything Badass Ozzy was just over on the jury like “Yea that’s my girl y’all get your own”

Great list! I still think you have to put the two Russell idol plays at the top of this list. By far the most "game changing" idol plays in Survivor history. For Samoa he went from being down 4 vs 7 to a 5 vs 4 advantage two votes later (swinging Shambo to his side to tie the numbers up at 5 vs 5, and there's always someone who won't want to go to rocks......) with complete control of the game the rest of the way.
But by far the best idol play ever was the Heroes vs Villains idol play. The only idol play ever that has changed the course of an entire season!!! This went from being a Boston-Rob led season a-la All-Stars to Russell & Parvati domination. Russell & Parvati were down & out: it was 6 vs 3 for crying out loud! Not only did Russell manage to convince Tyson to flip his vote to Parvati, not only did he give his immunity idol to Parvati & risk getting voted out then & there if Tyson didn't change his vote, but he also changed the complexion of the Villains tribe to his favor. By making such an enormously gutsy & selfless move, he won Coach & Jerri over to his side. That's what makes this move so amazing. It wasn't just this single moment at tribal council; it won him allies, control of the Villains tribe, and control of the whole season.
Amanda's idol play didn't do that, Parvati's idol play didn't do that, and Kelley's idol play didn't do that.

Was about to comment that if we really take the impact of the idol play the HVSV Russell idol play on Parvati is no 1. The most impactful in all aspects. Still my favorite moment.
I’d honestly put Russel’s idol play in HvV as the best. This is because there were so, so many ways it could have backfired on Russel if Tyson was smarter. I will list some factors.
-If Tyson was told to vote Parvati instead of Russel by Rob he wouldn’t be able to flip his vote to Parvati resulting in Russel’s loss.
-If Rob was not immune he would be able to to keep the vote split as Hantz would most likely not vote Tyson and the vote would stayed 3-3 as it should have.
-If anyone in Russel’s alliance flipped Russel would have lost.
-If Rob didn’t alert Tyson that Russel would vote him, Tyson would not be scared enough to flip.
-If Coach told Rob that Russel had the idol Tyson would not risk flipping his vote.
If any one of these things happened Russel would end up like Tony, an aggressive one-season wonder who was destroyed in his second outing. Kelly’s idol play was amazing, yes, but Russel’s idol was even more of a risk on all scales and singlehandedly bought him more days, allies, and power in the game. It also has a wow factor as again we had no idea if Tyson or anyone else would flip making it super suspenseful.

Overrated move
Nope, it was useless and made for the sake of a flashy move with no actual benefits. Voting out Tony would have been an excellent move. But then again Denise is Denise... Also based on Peridiam's rules for this top 5 she does not qualify.
We got a new #1 fam. Denise slaying the Queen is not just the #1 idol play ever, but one of the best survivor moves in history!!!

That was a flashy move but Sandra wanted to go home anyway and It put a huge target on Denise's back after that, which led to her being voted out

It's not as flashy, and technically the idol didn't get "played", but I think Yul using his as leverage to flip Jonathan is one of the most impactful as it arguably won him the game. Not only by taking over the majority alliance, but also it was a huge boon to his tribal council. The fact that he beat Ozzy of all people proves how much respect his gameplay received, and the idol play definitely was a huge part of that.
Russell's play to knock off Tyson in HvV was PURE GENIUS
Russel is basically a king plus “I ain’t finished playin’ just yet” is one of his best quotes.
3 of these videos involved Parvati and 3 of these moves involve Russell.
Wentworth’s idol play is still saved on my dvr all these years later.

My favorite is when David tries to get Jess to align with him because her alliance were going to vote her out. David played the idol and saves her. It was a great play. only brought down later when she went home from drawing rocks.

Russle went on Australia Survivor this year, he was the third person voted out.
I mean tbf, Russel is such a dominant force when he plays, he's a strategic player, a threat in challenges, and absolutely cut throat. He is a player, like Rob, Sandra, Parvati, etc that if u let him stay long enough he gets in ppls heads and they start listening to what he has to say.
Tbh he out played everyone his first two seasons and didn't get sole Survivor because of butt hurt ppl on the jury and out of spite they voted for a coat tailer the first time and Sandra the second time.
@@ryangilchrist56 Tbf I can understand why Sandra and Parvati got the votes while Russell got none. He was a bit too cutthroat and he for some reason thought it was smart to bring stiff competition like Sandra and Parv to the finals. However I do agree Russell should of won Samoa. I understand the aspect of Natalie playing the social game and making a few strategic moves, but imo what Russell did in that season was WORTH the title of the winner and getting the million. Natalie did have smart moves but for me it wasnt a million dollar-worthy game.
@@jy1173 Sandra should never have sniffed the million in HvV. Russell should have won, if you take jury management into account then Parvati should have won but Sandra had such little impact on the game. Parvati and Russell were playing on a whole different level with huge targets on their backs especially Parvati because Russell scared everyone from voting for him
@@lwandilemsiza8027 Yeah I agree to a certain extent that Sandra shouldnt have gotten the million. However, it's just the fact that people have different perspectives of what the winner of survivor should be. For me, I look at it in a way of who's gameplay is worth a milllion dollars, not necessarily who deserves the title of sole survivor. That's why I don't necessary agree with Sandra in HvV, Natalie W, and Michelle F and their wins because sure, I don't mind you winning the title of sole survivor, but 1 mill? nah. If I was a hero jury on HvV and I heard Sandra say "hey i tried to help you but yall wouldnt listen and thats why you are out", I would of thought thanks Sandra but Im still voting for Parvati. Also people really give Sandra too much credit, especially when she says "I know how to get to the end", even though had she gotten Russell out , she wouldn't have made it to final 3.

People been saying "why savage and not jeremy?" when they dont know Savage is literally the one holding the entire team. And he's not someone that's willing to flip flop and make abig game move. He's an oldschool player who based his game on being loyal while Jeremy is willing to shake things up (voting Wiggles/Joe), Savage would never do that. So i think the move on getting Andrew Savage out was the correct move
That's not true. If Jeremy really is the one holding the group together then he wouldnt be voting out Wiggles, or Joe. He would take out the Witches like Savage would. Jeremy's willing to switch things up, Savage isn't.
i think its just because Wentworth and Jeremy played on the same season and got along and he was just a chill dude everyone wanted to take to the end ig
Kelley herself has said that she wanted to idol Jeremy out at Final 12, but Ciera and Abi were set on voting out Savage. She didn't tell either of her allies that she had the idol because she didn't want her plan to fail and also didn't want her allies to feel like she betrayed them.
Savage is my least favorite player of any season. The guy was straight-up delusional.
Also, jeremys meat shield strategy put the target on savage, Stephen, and joe, so even if it wasn’t savage, it was unlikely for Jeremy to go out

Russell’s play in HvV is my favorite all time bc of how in tune he was to exactly what everyone in the game was thinking and then flawlessly pulling off his strategy to basically convince Tyson to vote himself out 😂 it really was brilliant

I know you have to be worried about vote splits, but all I wanted in the #1 video was for the three of them to each vote for a different person. Thus making the group of 9 have to turn on each other in a revote. It could have made the rest of the season even more delicious than it was.
This is what Malcolm, Reynold and Eddie should have done in Caramoan. With probably Cochran, Andrea and Erik getting votes as the were probably the favourites at that point
I think top 2 should be the two iconic HvV plays - Russel going for the riskiest move ever and somehow succeeding (to this date imo the most intriguing move ever, no one seems to know what EXACTLY happened) + Parvati playing 2 idols for other people. Kelley's is deservedly Top 5 (baby!) tho :-)
Tyson got greedy cuz it was potentially a 3-3-3 vote and he was potentially the tie so when Russell came to him and said he'd turn on Parvati Tyson gladly abandoned Boston robs plan to split the vote. Leading to 4 for Parvati 2 for Russel and 3 for Tyson

Great list, but i still don't think Parvati move with the idol play was that obvious... she purposely threw the immunity challenge to give the necklace to Danielle, if she had won the necklace her move had less chance of working it out, because the Heroes would have 3 people to put their "safe vote". IMO this was not obvious, she clearly thought of every steep of the plan to make sure the Villians had the numbers. Beside, Amanda could have been telling the truth, they were friends in Micronesia. Also, it would make sense to target Russell, Sandra had said he was not to be trusted and sometimes is best to aim for the "middle man". Even if they did trust him, they would have the numbers if they took him out. I think it is really impressive when a player reads others so well and has the guts to play a idol for someone else, putting myself in their shoes, i don't know if it is that easy, they have very limited information - in a way that as viewers we cannot understand and also if they are wrong they go home. It way safer to play for yourself, because if you miss at least you guarantee your spot, if you miss playing for some else, you go home. It's a bold and very smart move.
I love the Kelley idol move - it made for great tv and i loved watching Savage going home, but i think Parvati's move took more guts and more skills in reading the players, since Kelley admited Joe revelead to her they would vote for her.
Yes, I agree. I think the fact that Parvati set this up by letting Danielle win Immunity makes this even better of a strategic move. Definitely better than Russell playing his idol in Samoa, for example.

Russell’s play is obviously the best one. Everything that went into it, having to trick Tyson, the suspense that it would not have worked without that. And you talk about it like it was Tyson’s choice, it was... but Russell fooled him into it. It was a beautiful move and the fact that nobody saw him playing that on Parv made it all the better. It’s not even close in my book. NOT EVEN CLOSE.
And also the double idol play by Parv was also basically Russell and you can look that up on his channel where he explains but basically he told her to play the idol on Jerri instead of the original target Sandra feeling there had been a switch. She was so confused she decided to use both of her idols to avoid disaster. So good choice on her end but Russell made her play it on Jerri and that in turn secured the move. It’s funny how they edited that to make everyone feel like it was Parvs master plan. Russell is just the king haha.
But yeah that first one is iconic and Russell really did save the show, and that moment was a huge part of why.
the king who could never win... I've heard many people try to discredit Parvati from that move.
John Olson the entire jury from his first season came out and said they regret not giving Russell the win because Natalie was incredibly undeserving and they were all just salty. And I literally already explained the Parvati move.. the reason people discredit it is because her move never would have happened if Russell didn’t tell her the vote changed from Sandra to Jeri.
@@chewwa1700 understandable point. but Neither Russell or Parv could know for sure what the other alliance move would have been and Russell did not know PArv had two idols. Russell was not in the heroes alliance. Parv playing two was the best she could have done and not trusting Amanda. Neither natalie or russell deserved the win in somoa. For survivor fans like me, Social game does matter and Russells social game was terrible.

Tony's bluff of the "special idol" deserves a mention. It was a better play than what that idol was meant for and thankfully, it only lasted one season.

Amanda has an amazing smile. If Ozzy ever got with her in the real world they would have conceived persons that rival that of mythical greek gods and goddesses. Their firstborn would genuinely be a living Kratos. But alas, their split may have spared the planet a few more generations.

my favorite idol play was when ben from season 35 played his idol before the votes were cast to force the remaining players to turn on each other.

Wentworth has always been one of my favorites. Always rooted for her to win. But I think it’s her 3rd time playing now on Edge of Extinction, if she doesn’t win this time I don’t see her coming back again
It seems like this list is the "The Top Best 5 Idol Plays in terms of creating entertaining television." Which is cool and I enjoyed the video. But if you're looking for suggestions for future videos I would say maybe you should also make a "Top 5 most IMPRESSIVE idol plays." Like from a strategic perspective, because that list would be completely different. This list includes people who knew for a fact that they were in trouble and would have been complete idiots not to play the idol they possessed on themselves at that TC

I'd say Natalie saving Jac in SJDS would be on a list like that or Russell in HvV. Parv's double play I'd also still keep and it's my personal #1. I'd also include Jessica being saved in MvGX
