The pure preposterousness of the first ever concept of vote splitting against an idol coming not only from Cao Boi, but **from a fucking dream** is so fantastic. In another world, he told the right person the plan, made it far, and is a fan favorite (probably with an edit not highlighting the thing everyone else was annoyed with him for).

Another S31 Jeremy moment that I have always found so lowkey yet SO smart: at the final five after Wentworth wins immunity, Jeremy knows he’s a target for Wentworth and Keith. He technically has the numbers, but if Keith were to pull out an idol, Jeremy knows he would be going home. So he tells Keith (who then tells Wentworth) that he’s voting for Spencer. In reality I don’t believe Jeremy ever considered voting for Spencer for a second. However, Just one subtle side convo was enough to make Keith and Wentworth put Spencer’s name down instead of Jeremy’s, which would’ve saved Jeremy’s life had Keith played an idol.
I just think it’s a great, subtle move that clearly Spencer didn’t even think about - he was too focused on ensuring that his two allies didn’t flip, rather than bother to entertain the fact that Keith *might* have the idol and least pretend to work with Wentworth and Keith to ensure his safety. Which is what solidifies Jeremy as the clear winner imo.

    • @handsoaphandsoap

Tbh Spencer should’ve flipped on Jeremy there, or even Tasha. Or at 6, both of them kind of blindly followed someone who was very obviously better respected than either of them, though I understand that they were probably scared of Wentworth’s threat level after all her big moves.

It’s great when explained but the show kind of failed in that regard. It was very unclear in the edit why they were doing what they were doing since we don’t get an explanation from either of them in the episode, probably due to the double tribal making it so they can’t explain everything (hence why they should either drop the split tribal twist or make that episode longer).

There was a good idol defence in Australian Survivor Brains v Brawn final 5 when Flick (the only minority alliance member left) had an idol that no one knew about and knew that if everyone voted for her she would have the deciding vote. The majority 4 (George, Cara, Hailey and Wai) all decided they would put their votes on Flick. George knew that in the unlikely event Flick did have an idol that he would be the one she voted for, so he told Cara in secret that he was going to instead vote for Wai, meaning that no matter what happened he would be safe, as if Flick played an idol Wai would go home, and if she did not it would go to a tie vote sending Flick home. In the end Flick did have an idol and Wai went home.

    Some of favorites are:
Sandra telling Russell that Coach was gunning for him was a great defensive move. Now while it would have been Courtney going that night, there's a chance she goes the following night. By having her ally survive another night, she gave herself a way better shot at making the merge at which point she knew she would have way more room to play.
JT protected his jury vote and reputation by not voting out Coach and instead making Stephen look like the bad guy for breaking his word.
Cesternino in the Amazon getting Jenna and Heidi to vote out Christy was also a great move after Christy didn't commit to the plan. Jenna and Heidi were pissed at Rob and he was the likely target. Very possible Butch or Matt don't go to rocks for him or he finds himself in the minority since in that case there was a 2 in 3 chance one of his allies draws a purple rock.
Similarly, Boston Rob targeted the swing vote on RI when he booted Matt at the merge. He knew in the event of a tie Zapatara was less likely to go to rocks for him. More importantly he recognized no one would see it coming or play an idol on Matt. Also very similar to Stacy targeting Egardo.
We also have to mention Bob's fake idols. Doing so made Randy overconfident and intentionally goad people into voting for him as well as people telling Bob he would be safe.
Another strategy I like is throwing an ally under the bus. Alex did so to Mookie by writing his name down because he knew the votes were split and by doing so he would give himself another 3 days.
Another underrated move is by Chris D. in Vanuatu. I think many people remember after the girls betrayed him he told them he was disappointed and tugging at their heart strings to make them feel bad. Part of why it worked so well was it was his allies who really argued with the girls, putting the spotlight on themselves.
Austin in Panama threw a challenge he knew he wouldn't win. He put on a good performance so others would catch on. Doing this he knew Terry or Nick would be the target. Now, I have no idea why he revealed this to everyone at tribal as it could have screwed him lol.

    • @TheMattHardyFan21

Alex did not vote for Mookie, it was Dreamz voting for Mookie. Alex, Mookie and Edgardo voted Cassandra. Dreamz voted Mookie for 3 reasons, first he was specifically angry with Mookie after he blew up at him on voting for Michelle the previous vote. Second although it showed he separated from the alliance it kept secret his involvement with the syndicate making sure it wasn't revealed he told the syndicate about the idol. And third if the plan failed and they somehow played the idol on Edgardo he could feign ignorance to Alex and Edgardo trying to pass his vote as some personal problem with Mookie, but still wanting to work with Edgardo and Alex.

I'll take Spencer and Tasha from that actual season and tribe, but throw in a little extra spice from other people. For reference, I care, because I'd be a Brain, for sure. I'm ugly, so not Beauty, and I'm five feet tall, soooo, not Brawn. I'd get slaughtered.
    5. Much as I love MOST of the people on this cast, ahem, umm...can we NOT talk about this season...? 'Kay, thanks. I think it may have killed Survivor because of that asshole pervert, and no, I'm not censoring that. He WAS an asshole.
    6. I'm NOT a fan of Richard. Didn't like him when I was eleven, and I don't like him now that I'm 32. But I have to admit, that was a brilliant move.
    7. You would THINK this wouldn't work--and it wouldn't nowadays--because he was always so much better at playing it straight, but good thinking, Pirate. Still love ya.
    8. Yeah, sorry, after seeing everything he's done, another candidate for Brains here. Alright, people, help me draw up a second "BBB" with your favourites. I seem to be covering all the Brains, but six people per tribe.
    9. Oops...? XD Good move. "Oh, don't mind me, I'm just dumb." No you're freaking not.
    10. Yeah, this strategy is notoriously good at working. I'd use it, because, as previously mentioned, five feet tall. Just find myself the biggest bear and snuggle up at night. Bam. Problem is, depending on who I'm playing with, I COULD be the smartest person out there. It's a good problem to have, but they'd figure it out, and my ass would be grass.

A friend of mine asked why I like to watch Survivor. It's a stupid reality Gilligan's Island. That's her quote not mine, she said this a couple of years ago. So.......yeah, she's has been living under a rock. This video is the reason that I like to watch it. The strategy, the psychology (which can be different), and the humanity (I can't tell you how many times I've cried watching survivor, the stories told, people giving up an idol or immunity for someone else). My three favorite idol plays was Wentworth, Parvati (playing for Jerri), and Amanda (the reason I like hers is the sing-song way she says she's got the idol and the twirling of it).

If were gonna talk about some modern seasons and their defensive plays:
In S43, we just saw Noelle pull off a blindside on James during the split merge twist, by stealing Owen's vote (the intended target) and turning it around and voting James out with the Knowledge is Power advantage in his pocket.
S42 had Maryanne pull off the Omar blindside by using her extra vote on Omar as a way of ensuring that the frontrunner would go home and she would be in the best position to win. You could also say that her not telling anyone about her idol until the final tribal can be seen as a defensive play.
In Aussie Survivor Brains vs Brawn, I remember Hayley and Dani pulled in their allies and worked together to get out Simon, who had 2 idols in his pockets.

In french Survivor's recent season koh lanta: the sacred fire (Koh Lanta: le feu sacré). Tania and Julie were the last women standing in the F5. The led a brillant strategy to eliminate one of the boys's trio.
22 yo dietetician Tania, the youngest contestant of the season is the ultimate underdog. She was voted out on 12th day but came back due to a medevac. She was in danger on and on at each council as too weak for challenges but she's positive and has some sense of wit. She managed to gain the immunity challenge at the pairs episode alongg with Frédéric, the winner. But then, was exiled to participate at a challenge and win against the last one voted out Esteban. She managed to find an immunity necklace before the penultimate council but took the risk not to play it. Laura was voted out 5-4 as too witty for the orienteering race. Brillant move.
Tania tells Julie she has a necklace as one of them is in danger for the last coucil before the finale. The 33 yo football player Julie has a magnificent idea, she begs Tania to lend her necklace and show them to the boys as it was her own. Former military Nicolas falls to the trap and tells the other boys about it and direct theirs votes to Tania.
Tania and Julie's strategy works at its best. The last council, It's an amazing blindside as Quentin, Frédéric and Nicolas vote against Tania as she exposes her Necklace. All votes against Tania do not count and Quentin who psychologically harassed Tania (as he deemed her undeserving) throughout the season exits with only 2 votes.
Julie will fail at the orienteering race (F4) and Tania will last runner-up as Frédéric won the season 7-2.

The crazy part about Richard Hatch, and to be fair there are several crazy parts to him, is that at the end of the day, Hatch’s plan was never a full proof one! He made educated guesses about where he stood with the jury and how they would vote. While he was correct in all of his presumptions, you also know that there was always a chance Hatch was wrong and that he could have won had he won that final immunity challenge! It’s fascinating how strategic that move was to the point that Hatch decided his only winning path was throwing the challenge!
