Metal Gear Solid 1 Metal Gear Rex Boss Battle PSX PS1 Playstation 4k 1080 MGS Игры
Rex is the most technically impressive PS1 model. Not a single wobbling pixel.
It almost looks as clean as the Twin Snakes version. I kind of like it better here - maybe because the lighting is a bit darker and makes it look more imposing.
you realize this video is upscaled right?
twin snakes added a LOT of corny crap into the story line.@@MachFiveFalcon
Machines dont have hangovers. Tbh, Rex horrified me by the size and threat of it. Camera being fixed right behind you to see the desperate attempt to destroy this building behemoth as a man with a stinger gun
And they actually involved a taunt to it. That screech gives me Ocelots "meow" vibes after mgs3 tho xD
It's the voice acting that makes this game a privilege to experience
IMHO it had better voice acting here than in the remake MGS: The Twin Snakes.
Agreed, MGS/MGS2/MGS3/MGS4 and of course MG and MG2:SS were all Konami masterpiece's. the story so gripping but well executed. Shame Konami wont do MG/MG2:SS in the way 1-4 were done... they would fly off the shelves if they did... I mean who wouldn't pay good money to have voice acted Metal Gear battle with fox and the big boss 1 on 1 at the end? I would easily.
@@BiohazardX9 Kojima’s masterpiece, not Konami’s.
@@Duomaxwell02M Both games have specific performances that I think are better in one version of the other, you can’t say that every single line in the original is better, there’s bound to be a good amount of line delivery that’s better in Twin Snakes.
@@Duomaxwell02M this has never been a discussion. the original sound was half the experience basically. the remake sound was lame in general
MGS is almost twenty years old now, yet this battle is still one of the most exciting and memorable scenes I've ever seen in a videogame. And then you get to hear The Best Is Yet To Come over the end credits! Truly this game was a gift that kept on giving...

Honestly, it's impressive that MG REX is fully operational with minimal repair after years of disrepair after Moses in MGS4
it was built to last, after all
Otacon's masterpiece
Part of it was that the automated censor (the satellite dish thing) was the first thing that was destroyed. The pilot nest was rendered almost inoperable from the action, which left it a husk in a sense, but still operating.
This game is 20 years old.
So many memories
Fucking AMAZING

Still fresh in my mind. Still have three disc case that this came in. When games purchased at the register, meant you didn't have to pay for anything else because the creators knew what they wanted to create, and for anything extra, you just had to play the game some more to discover it. When they just wanted to tell a story through the only medium they knew best. When you purchased a game back, you didn't need to commit anymore money to support the company for the what used to be three to four years it'd take to make a game. All you needed to do to support the creators involved and encourage them, was purchase the game, and that was enough.

I distinctly remember as a kid getting up the point where the first stage of the battle begins. I remember having to stop and take a walk because I was so intimidated and in awe of having to actually fight REX. The sheer build up to fighting that thing made it really seem like it truly was impossible, yet somehow, you have to be the one to stop it
I remember this feeling. And it took so many tries I thought it was impossible. Then, I remember in MGS2 fighting all the RAYs I almost crapped my pants. I had to convince myself I could do it by telling myself that there’s no way the developers would make it that hard
@@zalden2565 it took me weeks to beat REX. The sheer iron will it took as a kid to finally beat it felt legendary
Yes the sun glasses did convince me.....us. you know it did. lol
I love that Metal Gear makes Godzilla noises
"Ok, Mr. Liquid, uh, sir, I have finished the bipedal locomotion system integration..."
"I want a button to make it roar like a dinosaur."
"...what?"
"Where is the 'roar like a dinosaur' button? MAKE IT HAPPEN."
@@PlayMadness You know Otakon was probably the one that added the roar button. Liquid probably found it by accident and was like "That's fucking awesome!"
The Japanese love Godzilla man...lol
I guess it kinda went over my head that a robot named "Rex" would naturally make dinosaur noises in the world of Kojima. Part of the reason Kojima games are so good is because he has the creative mind of a 12 year old boy.

Should we explain to Liquid that's not how genetics work?
What do u mean
@@benjamin6523
"Recessive" doesn't necessarily mean "inferior". It simply means the Gene is covered up when a "Dominant" gene is present. For example, having six fingers on your right hand is a "Dominant" trait.
This is not a developer oversight either; one of the developers actually said Liquid doesn't really understand genetics.
@@psyxypher3881 yeah, the whole point is that liquid sucks at science
He REALLY thinks to be the "inferior" copy of big boss
Liquid was the superior clone to Big Boss
Liquid: "Talk to the REX."
As someone who's played this before; it's hard to see you not use the chaff grenades. That's how this fight works use the chaff grenades to disable the radome, and then when that antenna is destroyed use the stun grenades to disorient liquid.
I'm more annoyed OP doesn't seem to know how to work REX's pattern to dodge the autocannons and missiles, instead tanking all the damage and wasting rations.
I was just looking for how to get through the second part of this fight! Thanks for outlining the use of stun grenades as I completely forgot they existed lol
Man this is the one fight in the game I had to look up. I got through the whole game without guides but this boss seriously kicked my ass. Thanks lol
@@CidSilverWingHe still won so what does it matter? There’s always picky weirdos where if you’re not a master class EVERY SINGLE TIME then you shouldn’t make a video of you playing a game. Wait you could use stun on Liquid? Always learning something new with this game I swear. I always used chaff to get up close and personal for both phases. I'll give that a shot next time.
Anyone else get frustrated seeing him using the chaff grenades when he didn’t need to and not using it when he needed to lol
Yes chaff is suposed to be used in the first round
I remember the time I played this and learning to get closer to the Rex each time when it fires the missiles as the best way to dodge them, then to fall back again when it uses the laser. Dodging each missile volley gives you a short opening to use the stinger missile on the radar dish or the cockpit depending on which battle you’re in.

@@They_are_Arthur I actually have the PS3 collection but I haven’t played it yet, I plan on it in the near future
I came here looking for a way to dodge the missiles but this dude is getting hit by every single one of them and just brute forcing through with rations -_-
I was thinking the same thing. I was in the mood to re-watch a few select favorite scenes in MGS1 and I just can't bare to watch anymore because I'm bothered at how poorly they are playing.
You can dodge them by running towards him, but keep a close distance to him.
That work sometimes
The best way to avoid the missiles is to prevent MG to use them. If you stay too far right it front of it MG will just spam missiles and when you get hit, you can't recover to dodge the next salvo. You need to regulary close the gap so it has to either rotate, use the laser or tread on you. In each cases, it will have to finish it's animation and face you again before being able to fire missiles. In other words, you have to force MG into moves with long animation, fire the stinger if you can, and quickly get into another position so you can force it again in the loop.
If it still manages to get a lock at you, you need to start moving left or right at the very beginning of its "sitting" animation before it fires the salvo. If you wait for the firing sound, it's too late. Missiles are fast with a quite bad turn radius and you can avoid them 100% of the time if you dodge soon enough. In the worse scenario in which you are sure to get hit, it better to get hit by the 2nd or the 3rd missiles, than the 1st and the 4th. If you get hit by 1 and 4 you can't recover quick enough if it fires a new salvo.
I usually spam chaff grenades..
When there's chaff in the air, the missiles cannot lock on to you and you can dodge them by running away.
When the cockpit is closed, try to get on the right side of Metal Gear and fire as many stingers on the radome when there's chaff in the air (just aim manually, it's not necessary to wait for a missile lock); this way you can save your rations and chaff grenades to fight Metal Gear with an open cockpit.
When the cockpit is open, try to have a chaff grenade active as much as possible (don't forget the delay when throwing them).
Fire stingers on the cockpit when chaff is active, run away to dodge the missiles and to throw a new chaff grenade.
As long there's chaff in the air, the missiles only lock on to your initial position but they cannot home in to you when you run to dodge them.
(Remain close to Metal Gear when there's no chaff active, Liquid can't use it's missiles at close range but you'll have to dodge the laser and the machine gun).
I think one key element that makes this voice acting better than Twin Snakes is the echo effect, that makes you believe they were in a big place environment.
Not only that. Twin Snakes has a lot of awkward pauses between lines of dialogue. And frankly, some voice actors completely phone in their performance in the remake, especially Paul Eiding and Jennifer Hale. I cannot understand why they sound so bored when they knocked it out of the park in the original.

I came here just for the fight but the voice acting and genuine emotion surrounding those characters made me watch whole video :)
Man, playing this game back then when I was 14 years old was mind blsowing experience
Chaff grenade must used when radome is operating, and he can't see you. When the radome is disabled, you must use stung grenade for blind liquid. If you play in hard difficult it's the only way to pass him.
Thanks for the tip now i will have my revenge on liquid
I ran out of stun grenades in that 2nd Rex fight, what i did was just hide out of Liquid's sight until he starts searching, i just keep hiding until he eventually stops moving for a few seconds then shoot the Stinger at him
You can still use chaff grenades in the 2nd phase, it throws off his missile targetting. However, it will not stop him from doing anything else.
i defeat rex without chaff nor stun. Hard difficult. My strategy was to get asap below Rex, then wait until stop moving then stinger, and so on and so on. Eventually defeat it in both close and open cockpit.
See I just hid underneath Rex until he forgot where I was lmao
Of all the lines to quote from this memorable, classic exchange, the one I use is "Did you like my sunglasses?"
as confusing as the story has been with MGS over the years, the gameplay and the voice acting is top notch! its the whole package of what a game should be

Holly shit.
Eli actually refers to venom snake as his father.
That's only fitting conaidering venom was alwaysvery forgiving towards eli as a kid.
He even says "well I'm not like you". Liquid literally never grew up.
There's something so imposing about that massive red vision cone MG-Rex gets when it spots you on the radar.
Fox's final words will always be an emotional gut punch.
I remember the missiles, it took forever for me to find out that you can just move towards Rex's knee and avoid them, this series is amazing
When you can't stop replaying and or watching countless videos of MGS of the series you grew up with. Consider it an honor...haha!

I legitimately cried, R.I.P Gray Fox
When Metal Gear made sense...
Gray fox : Em I a joke to you ?
Are you sure about that
Summer of 1999. Nostalgia. Still got the original 2 case set it came in.
Just pulled it out of storage. Been playing it for the past 3 days. Still remember all the strategies.
Run in when the missiles are about to fire and stay close but not too close that he fires the lazer too much
Chaff Grenade only works when Rex have the Radar...
The chaff is to jam the lock-on of the missiles. Alternatively, using Stun Grenades can make Liquid lose sight of you if you're quick enough. Otherwise, keeping a long enough distance while using chaff was the solution here. Using Body Armor does work against missiles, though, reducing damage.
"Les Enfants Terribles" AKA the lost sequel to Les Miserables.
One of the top 10 games of PS1. Brought be back to my high school years
I know I'm really late to the party but I figured I could help reduce the damage in the fight as I ran into the same issue as you; getting hit by the missiles. If you're close enough to the Rex it actually can't hit you with it's missiles well at all (Though it'll still fire them). It will then mostly switch to the Rotary gun or the free electron laser (Which does a lot of damage). Basically the strat to minimize damage is to stick close enough to it to keep the missiles from hitting you but not too close as it can hit you with a very fast and hard to avoid laser. It also stomps too. Wait till it shoots the missiles, dance around right in that happy medium range, then when you hear the third one let fly, pull up the stinger and fire at the Radome/cockpit depending on phase. You might take some hits from the rotary cannon which isn't very powerful, but do be aware that if you linger and try to shoot twice in one go you'll take that nasty F.E. Laser and it'll do serious damage. I love Rex and it really has some cool hardware; Otacon really went all out on it haha. I know that was a lot of text but I figured I'd mention it as once I started fighting it like that I used relatively few rations. Of course, the way you did it works too obviously! Anyway, Cheers!
I use the same technique
@@tgdude6379 it really helps reduce damage. Even so REX is tough as that FE Laser is quick to fire and does tons of damage. The strategy works fairly well with the RAYs in MGS2 but that's still a hard fight, especially on harder difficulties.
@@renc7305 the way he did it wouldn't have worked if it was normal or higher levels and also body Armor helps
@@tgdude6379 Haha yeah I did normal my first time and didn't find the armor and I tried to shoot it from far back like in this vid and got roasted so many times. The missiles do so much damage on normal mode and up so I went online to see if I was fighting it right. Turns out I wasn't and after I tried the close fighting strategy, I beat REX after 2 or 3 more tries. Haha I could have saved a lot of time if I had just looked it up from the start but I wanted to try it myself first just for the fun of it. Even with the knowledge, REX still got me a few times because of that laser.
I also learned this tactic back when I played it. I still have the game disc. Ah, the memberberries.
Thank you boss fight database you get these vids right
Man i loved this game back in 1999 2000
That power up and hiss stretch rex does is me every morning
Wait... chaff works after the radome is destroyed? Dang. I had no idea. Either way, you're an absolute madlad for taking it head-on. When I was little I could only win by getting under REX and blasting it from below. The stomp and laser were easier for me to dodge than the miniguns and hellfires.
So epic. The voices, the lines, the music, the story, the gameplay.
I honestly think most PSX games look better with the jaggy polygons.
Yes i dont like the character of 80s, 90s and early 2000 games
The fact that this was once Sahelanthropus
4:54 25 years later and i still get goosebumps, during this sequence i remember thinking "surely i wont have to destroy it alone right? someone will come help right? right?"
I always wondered how an FIM-92 Stinger could lock onto REX (since the Stinger is an anti-air missile launcher)
It's also a single use, disposable rocket. Meaning Snake has 35 launchers on him 😁
The cinematic the music the action it perfect 😊
"It's moving..."
I don't think I ever felt that dread before in a video game.
Wow this story is hard to follow, I hope the sequels clear it up and make it easy to understand.

How the hell is this story hard to follow, did you doze off every few minutes?
@@They_are_Arthur it is, not to an MGS fan like us
This game is a masterpiece
Why is the music wrong?
During the grey fox scene it's supposed to be 'escape' not 'encounter'. And during the second battle with Rex, again, is supposed to be 'escape' instead of 'duel'...
I know right? What the fuck is wrong with this version. The original is 100000 times better

i will always regard that man as my favorite teacher heck back then i even saw him as a father figure of sorts since i loved learning stuff from his games
much of it was fiction true but there were so many beautiful ideas and ways to see and interpret things in Metal Gear that its astonishing
ideas like Memes being the DNA of society ideas the characters also felt deeper than anything before them in anything that wasn't in book format not even movies felt like they had characters this rich and interesting and most of them if not each one was woven in the plot so masterfully in MGS1 that i could think all day and i wouldn't find anything i would change in this game
I played this masterpiece at age of 13 sometimes in darkness I must say the Italian dubbing is by far the best. Grey fox speech remains stuck in your mind for long as well as ocelot words

Why this version completely KILLED the epicness of this fight? WTF...
Agreed, the Foxes Death version really uped the ante for the 2nd phase.
You are so correct, I was really listening to it and saying the same thing. That why is this version playing here for the Rex battle, it should've been the version where the drums beat rapidly and not break. I know this game like I was the developer
First scene I thought of when the remaster was announced
That thing would be so ineffective in the real world for countless reasons. It has a high center of gravity that is constantly changing, it probably need like 30 gyros running at all times just to keep it stable and battle ready. I would need 3 people running it. One driver, one on weapons and one person monitoring systems. Yeah I know I'm that guy making comments. LOL. Believe me I love the series.
I think I would just be a tank but with legs and multi barrel rockets. Still I think if Metal Gear is in real life, I would think it's really a destructive weapon but can be so exposed to enemy fire due to its size
Even Metal Gear-series itself acknowledges concept being silly. Granin's plan of bridging the gap between artillery and infantry by making walking artillery is lampshaded as impractical. Tank threads provide that mobility.
Crazy how MGSV is mentioned here. Kojima...
MGS games where made to be linked to all others
Whats the line?
Still my favorite MGS of all time, this game was an absolute revolution back in 98, just compare it with any other game of that time, it's just mind blowing. Apart from that, the music, the drama, it's just a fucking masterpiece.
Liquid: "You'd point a weapon at your own broth-"
Snake: *Shoots and kills him*
Grey Fox: "Welp, so much for my glorious sacrifice..."
in the second round you stand between rex's legs and shoot up under the rex chin.
Why use a chaff grenade only after the radome has been destroyed?
The music here fits so much better than the Remake. Really feels dire and like an all out battle, but the remake is just kind of there
My goodness... why are you not using chaff grenades to first confuse Rex then get clean hits? The damage you taking in the beginning of the battle there is massive.
Made the video better in a weird way, reminded me of exactly how I played when I was 8 😂
Fuck how I miss playing this game!
I so wished Cam Clarke / James Flinders continued to voice Liquid Ocelot.
It’s just occurred to me how liquid resents snake for having flawed genes says the exact same things as Danny de vitos character says to Arnold in Twins

Liquid loves the sound of his own voice
I'd like some help with finding the track at 4:54

Same thing, I've tried to searh but nothing comes up, that piece is soo deep!
Seeing this guy not even try and evade the Rex attacks hurts me!
you know if you run inwards during missile barrage you don't need to use a chaffe g.
Pretty sure I beat this boss by hiding behind a back left pillar where he can't hit or see you. And whenever he thinks you can't possibly be there and looks away, just shot him and hid behind indestructible pillar again.
It was on the original ps1version. Don't know if it changed.
