Demo did not sound good, however, you can get the character. AO if you want to cut through the mix and take over midrange frequencies. Infinity if you want to place yourself in the high-midrange range of the mix with good bottom end, also if you need clean sounds. ADAM if you want to blend in the mix to support and intensify heavy guitars.
I have several DG pedals, including the ADAM. But man, I wouldn’t buy any based off of this video, the tones this dude gets, particularly out of the ADAM, are horrendous. I promise you, they sound better than this
As an ADAM owner, I have to ask-- did they update the firmware of the unit they were using? The firmware update allows the ADAM to lower the gain floor of the Drive function, allowing for a surprisingly-good "mild grit" level of dirt, bordering on "clean-ish", that works very well for Blues and Classic Rock. I gotta go back and check, but I think the firmware update also lets the user move the location of the cab sim in the signal chain... And that, ladies and gentlemen is the moral of the story-- yes, these units are pricey... but you're not getting *just* the unit, you're also getting future content via the app.
Not a good demo of these pedals at all. I know for sure the ADAM has nice low-drive tones in it and is capable of going into high gain territory with clarity and snap. Try using all the strings on your bass as just sticking with that B-string was not good.
I agree! I also have the ADAM and I can get somewhat of a clean tone with slight tube driven sound. Having no cab sim was also not the best idea for this comparison video. This video would not make me want any of these.
Im kinda dissapointed to see we didn't compare the Cabsims because one of the main selling points of the ADAM is the cabsims Nolly recorded SPECIFICALLY for the pedal
I’ve used it for over half a year now and had it on gigs and whatnot. It was expencive but IMO worth every cent. I mean my whole bass rig is this tiny box that fits into my backpack! And the amount of clean and overdriven tones is great, all the way from little grit to full on fuzz. All the other ”pedals” (tuner, compression, eq etc.) are also nice and solidify the pedal into a nice package.
I'm not entirely sure wheter the signal of the DI was properly captured. Sounds like a fuckton of clipping, and not distortion, from 3:43 on, while I think the real sound would be like that open B string at 5:25 (which I think was captured by your ambient mic, is that correct?). Nonetheless, thanks for this review!
I personally own the ADAM and I really enjoy how it sits in the mix. That's when you really see how special the pedal really is. My favorite features are the compression on the dial and the cab sims! It's definitely a great investment!
I'm a Darkglass user, and this video has some of the worst tones I have ever heard from a DG pedal. I demoed the Microtunes version of this pedal recently, and it sounded so much better in person than anything on this video.
Me: oh boy finally a review with raw tones, just out of the box! Can’t wait! No post eq or changes/processing by darkglass to sell the product! Video: so I’ve made some changes to this first tone
Brother, you need to check the settings of your processor, by default it’s set to passive bass and it also doesn’t have the input gain knob, so you gotta change the input levels on your bass or it will sound like in your video
Man I really wanted to hear your opinion!!! I have the microtones infinity and I love it. Basically bought it because it was the new model before doing my research. I didn’t even know there were these other two options. But I’m definitely glad I got the infinity. It’s amazing.
I thought that my audio card was clipping lol it sounds soooooo bad I cant even understand how to make the Adam sounds that terrible, too bad because the review is really really good
I didn't get it. What's the difference and how do those devices differentiate. Is there a table with side-by-side comparison anywhere? I'd better choose based on the checkboxes to match my needs than based on the sound.
Hello, Joshua! Yep, we were just running the DI output to the recorder. There’s also a line running to the amp behind me, but that amp is not coming through in the video, and was not mic’ed or anything. Thanks for the interest! I have my microtubes x7 ( i bought it from another person) awesome pedal, but really, i made pedalboard with literally all that stuff ( without cabsim) that already here in one pedal)) and im waited so much the pedal that based on microtubes x7 (x) and here it is... But now i lost my work, and there is war in my country, so i can only wait when i could afford it again... And i still cant be shure what pedal should work best for me)))
Awesome demo! 😎🤘🏻🎸 all of these preamps sounds pretty killer. Between these 3 preamps, I would personally go with the infinity. I do dig the vintage microtubes settings. Especially since I’m a huge fan of the vintage series. I have a darkglass vintage microtubes and it is my most treasured bass overdrive pedal. Anywho, I would consider getting the darkglass infinity if I ever needed a new preamp pedal.
I had never seen someone capable of making Darkglass pedals sound so bad, c'mon Sweetwater, get someone that knows what he's doing It is a GREAT pedal people, go watch another review
These push the envelope technologically but I think the Ultra line are still Darkglass's masterpieces. These have a "softness" to the sound that I hear with a lot of digital drives. They don't have the ear-splitting sound of the analog ones, which is what you need in order for it to really show up in a band. The distortion seems kind of mellow and in the background even at high mix. In a full band these sounds would present as just a blurry clean tone, like running a big muff at low tone. I don't hear the presence that I normally hear with Darkglass on these.
I really would have thought that the Photon would be the one i liked best/had the tone/settings i was looking for. Hands down, the Microtubes was the winner. The Adam seemed promising but soumded like garbage.
You didn't even mention going into the computer settings. I love Metal, but there are more than full on Overdrive tones! Geez, I'm looking for a job. Let me talk to your supervisor! 😂
Bass (and guitar) tones without a decent IR are "trvly" bad. I can't believe he is saying such good things about the ADAM (sorry that's all i could watch) while experiencing these horrendous tones.😂
USELESS demos!! The descriptions were helpful. But the demos… how can I hear multi band distortion when all you play is low B for most of this?? Also the TONE of the B string is not good WAY up past the 12 fret. I need to know the tones across many strings. I play ALL strings on my 5 & 6 string basses. Please redo the video with a bass player. Or at least re launch with new demos.

Not bad on a 1-string bass. I wonder how it would sound if my bass had more strings.
Beat me to it
🤣
I can't even tell what note he's playing
Distorted

My impression is that the audio didn't come from the XLR but from his mic instead. I've lost 12min on the worst review ever
@@mgsblackhawk No these are line sounds
That's the worst I've ever heard Darkglass pedals sound.
Should've used the cab sims. These pedals do not sound good direct without an IR. The distortion is much too fizzy.
💯

Yeah this guys is weak when it comes to demo videos with bass guitar.

Yeah if you go zero on drive and zero on blend, this thing spits out crazy bass.

AOP was one of the best purchases I've made they are so much more than just distortion

Its weird that Sweetwater posted this the same day I bought the alpha omega photon

Right now it's:
$500 - ADAM
$550 - AOP
$600 - Infinity
So the prices are "basically" the same.
And after watching this I still can't decide.
Thanks bro. This reaffirms me that plugging my bass into a DS-1 might be a better idea instead.

I am looking for information if the clean signal is also getting compressed?
I feel like ALL of them, but specifically the ADAM, need the cab IRs to sound proper.
How are you connecting these pedals in the video ? Trs line out ?
Hello, Joshua! Yep, we were just running the DI output to the recorder. There’s also a line running to the amp behind me, but that amp is not coming through in the video, and was not mic’ed or anything.

@@sweetwater did you have the mixer input set up at -10dbv or +4 on the adc or were you guys using a standard xlr mic input ? Thank you for this !

If you're going to record with the XLR out, use the IRs!!!! It sounds like hot garbage without them (like in this video)
These are preamp pedals, they go in the effects return NOT the amp input. :(
That bass is so scooped in the first place....sigh......ALL pedals respond so much better to a full frequency signal.
