  • For today's unboxing review we bring you the 2017 Ford Focus SE sedan. Yes, finally, the sedan is getting some attention. Remember, the Focus hatchback has also been transformed into the ST and RS hot hatchbacks, but we felt the sedan needed the spotlight for once. Our SE tester is nearly the base model and yet we were quite impressed with its standard features, power and overall fun-to-drive factor. Quick translation: a basic compact sedan doesn't have to be rental car boring.
    Power comes from a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter inline-four with 160 hp and 146 lb-ft of torque, with power going to the front wheels through the optional ($1,095) six-speed dual-clutch transmission. For less than a $1,000 more, our tester also came with the Cold Weather Package, Power Seat Package, and SiriusXM Radio. Not bad. Even the exterior and interior design look and feel premium. The days of the old Ford Escort are long gone. And, if you're a super careful and conservative driver, you can manage to achieve 40 mpg. Not bad for a car that came to a grand total of $22,395. Enjoy the review!

    I have the 2017 SE model I got White Gold I really love this little car. I'm 65 so wasn't looking for a crotch rocket. But it does drive sporty. My only complaint is the gas mileage. I live in AZ so avg temp now is 109 so the air con is running on high. Speaking of air con it blows hard and cold love it. Back to the mileage As I only drive in town I am getting 23.9 MPG. I am hoping when winter comes it will get closer to 30. I am a rotund person (aka fat) and I fit fine. the tilt and telescopic steering wheel adjusts well. Another surprise is the trunk. I had a Crown Victoria before this car. I have to have a wheel chair for my wife. With the Vic I really had a hard time putting the chair in the trunk. So when I got the Focus I resigned myself to the fact I wouldn't be able to bring the chair. To my surprise it fit easily in the trunk. I think all in all this is a fine car. It is the first new America car I have ever owned. The Vic is used. I am impressed. As a little plug I bought my Car at San Tan Ford. There motto is "Its all about you" . I am a credit challenged person(aka credit sucks) and they worked hard an got me a loan. I always felt if Jesus came today the evil people would be Tax Collectors and Car salesman. But after San Tan Ford I no longer feel that way. (about Car Salesman tax collectors are still evil).

    For those screaming "Civic", a base model Civic is over 20K with no discounts being offered. You can literally get a base model S Focus for half that price, and my 17 SEL with Sync 3, moonroof and winter package cost me $13,500 after discounts before TTL. The car is a great daily back and forth to work driver.

      I am looking at a base they are asking $11,600 for it. I would like a Moonroof and heated seats, no doubt. If I can get them down to 10 grand, I might just forgo those things.

      Wow! Are you a Ford sales person?? A Focus fan? It's cool you know so much. Yeah, I agree with you regarding the Pros and Cons. But remember, the current Focus is several years old, meaning a redesign is happening quite soon where those cons will likely be fixed.

      CarBuzz - Unboxing Everyday Cars and Supercars You got me, I used to sell Fords. One of Ford's inventory strengths and weakness is the dizzying array of options. Is anyone at CarBuzz a former salesman too?

    My sisters 2014 se manual has been bulletproof. My 2015 se auto has been quirky sometimes but no actual problems and it’s quick and gets better mpg than the sticker @65

    My Focus SE stickered at 20,145. I went in looking for a Fusion, but found this car to be adequate for my needs. I mean fuck it. I am 63 years old. The first time I drive home from the bank and wind up in Shreveport, my daughter is going to take my keys anyway. A good choice for the money.

    Good coverage of features and good comments. The actual prices are much different. These cars are being given away right now. An S model - $10k, SE $12-15k and Titanium for under $20k. You have to know how to buy one. The 1.0L Ecoboost w/manual is a heck of a car. It will average 40 mpg if you drive conservatively. The dual clutch transmission - who is to say? There are complaints and lawsuits going right now. Hopefully the DCT's are better. Stick w/manual and remove all doubt. It's even hard to find anyone commenting on long-term reliability at 100,000 miles or 200,000 miles like you can find out on Corollas, Mazda 3's, Civics...

    I think the Focus'
    Pros: Sharp handling, lots of rebates, hatchback, SYNC3, ST & RS.
    Cons: Small backseat, no fwd collision braking, Powershift(DSG)Automatic.

    Honestly the 2017 focus SE looks way better than my 2008 focus SE , both cars are the identical color , but the 2017 feels like a way better car than my 08 , I test drove one yesterday and was blown away . It handles better has way faster acceleration , better handling and better breaking , I almost have my mind made up to get the 2017 and dump my 08 that has a ton of issues with it .

    I like my 2014 focus hatch. Reliable fuel economy and sleek design. I prefer the older facia compared to the hexagonal grill of the newer focus but that's minor. Seriously though folks, get the hatch over the sedan, better design and rear visibility.

    The focus is a great car sure the powershift transmission was a bad one but the 5 speed manual is great . My focus gets about 43mpg highway the seats are nice the handling is great . Have 40k on mine and zero problems so far.

    American cars handle poorly. The Ford Focus handles superbly. Therefore the Ford Focus is not designed in America.

      It's not a bad transmission (it was worse when it first came out) but it is fuel efficient.

    the dash layout is absolutely atrocious. I can forgive the lack of speed being an economic car but at least make the interior presentable

    • @carbuzzcom
      @carbuzzcom  7 лет назад +2

      I don't think the dash layout is "atrocious." Harsh description there. Is it as nice as, say, the Mazda3? Honda Civic? Perhaps not, but it's not horrible.

    • @scott9050
      @scott9050 7 лет назад

      Nothing wrong with the dash layout. It is quite good in the real world.

    I do have to say I owned a 2014 SE Hatch and don't get me wrong I absolutely loved that car and probably would still have it today if it weren't for one thing. Dual clutch automatic transmission. I had many "fixes" from Ford and I constantly just lurched and lunged along in traffic. Occasionally it would pop out of gear and not move until I restarted the vehicle. Oh how I loved that especially on the highway! But no I'd buy this car again in a heartbeat just with a 6speed manual which I should have gotten

    • @scott9050
      @scott9050 7 лет назад

      Newest clutch redesign has taken care of the problems. My wife's 14 Focus Titanium had the DCT rebuilt at 55K miles, 32K miles later it has not had a hiccup.

  • @py1211

    5-door hatchback is the no brainer because 1) more rear passenger headroom; 2) more cargo space; and 3) looks better.
    But if I were to buy a compact car today, the focus will not be my top 3 choices, unless it's a manual ST.

    • @carbuzzcom
      @carbuzzcom  7 лет назад

      Totally agree regarding sedan vs. hatchback Focus. BTW, what are your top three choices?

    • @py1211
      @py1211 7 лет назад

      In the mass compact car segment, that would be Civic, Cruze and Golf. I should say I like Cruze most but the price is a bit of concern. I don't know how to explain but most hatchbacks in this segment look better than sedans (Mazda 3, Impreza, Elantra, Forte....).

    • @brayan8346
      @brayan8346 7 лет назад +1

      The Focus is not reliable transportation at least not for long. Furthermore it's value takes a dive off a cliff, this isn't a vehicle or a brand that I recommend. Of course people are free to do whatever they want.

      Jonathan K My brother had a Focus, it leaked oil, transmission would not shifting. He bought it with 12,000 miles. 'Just saying', anecdotal evidence does not necessarily translate to real world results for the majority of people.
