I love that fact that i can still learn new techniques after 1 year of owning the mavic 2 pro simply by asking questions in the community. What's the favorite technique you have discovered on the mavic?

yep I found this by trial and error when I first got my mavic Air and have used a few times to good effect, nice little video jeff, all the best from the UK and of course myself.

This is great. I started on a Mavic Air 2 and LOVED the spotlight mode, but when I bought a Mavic 2 Pro, it just didn't work the same. This video is definitely going to help out in footage I want to get. Mostly I've been doing manual flying for spotlighting something. My 2 recent videos on my page are manual flying for spotlighting something. Thanks for the "hack"

Thanks Jeff.. the auto modes are not for me but I understand why there needed.. I love the challenge of flying and getting that perfect shot manually.. I did figure this out when playing with the auto modes along with a few other tricks that I'm sure you already made videos of...lol lol.. my shtick is live streaming from these birds . I love the raw entertainment of it.. one chance to get it right thing.. it's a cool rush for me.. lol lol.. great video and the my friend!

Nice one Jeff. I always struggle to smoothly operate gimbal and sticks during POI. Good man. Can't wait to try it out. I recently shot a castle where this technique would have been amazing.

That's a great find! So much for book learning. I did have an issue while panning. While flying my Mavic 2 zoom to the right I panned to move the subject in the frame and I got a warning, "Obstacle on the right." as well as a red arc on right of screen and the drone movement stopped. I was able to recreate this several times. I landed and removed the DJI prop guards which solved the issue. I love the concept of prop guards but find they affect handling especially when there's a breeze.
HI Roscoe, that is interesting. I never thought about the possibility of the prop guards getting in the way of the sensors.

Thanks Jeff - I wish I had found this explanation earlier - it would have saved me a lot of frustrating attempts at getting good pans while trying to smoothly manipulate the two sticks AND the gimbal tilt wheel at the same time!

Excellent tips,gj for your work. I like Poi in DjiGo4, but the big problem is in low light /night situation when it is not posible to activate it. On the Mavic Pro it was based on Gps, not visual. So, maybe is focus mode in Litchi better for those situations. But I dont like to switch between those apps...
Man thanks for this video. I've been trying to figure this out for a while. The best I could do was to get POI framed differently and limited use of the sticks using spotlight mode. I was about to try the Litchi app.

With your POI setting at 0.0 and rotating around with your left stick woud I be correct in saying, let go of the stick and it just hovers on your subject? Also, are all stick movements available? Hey Jeff. Yep, obvious once you see it! Great tip thanks and will defo be using this feature more. I'd often slowed the movement down but never hit pause and kept it to zero to give full control back to the sticks. Cheers, Ian in London 👍🏻

Wouldn't it be simpler to just use spotlight mode. You have paint the target in spotlight mode and fly around all day with the gimbal locked on target.

Yes I did it too in spotlight but I didn’t understand about how direction works. I think the direction where you move of the drone is in relation with the initial position calculated after the triangulation. You should test it and make another video with these modes. Sorry to give you some work !! LOL 😂

I use POI but the way the defalt speed setting many times it is not posible to use.
It demands a quite free air space Becurse the defalt speed is pretty high. Have you find a way to reduce the start speed to 0??
It startes all to fast many places and it flyes many meters and it takes sevel times to hit the pause buttom to stop the drone.
I realy thing it was me doing somthing wrong when I set the speed to 0 and the drone start in speed.

Great tip Jeff, I've been wondering how to get the Gimbal to operate automatically. Now will it work with the Mavic Pro. Guess I'll have to try it and see. Thanks for sharing that. oh I have a tip If you set POI 50' away from object you can get a very close arching fly by. With the old Mavic 2 that is.

Hi Ronan, not exactly since you don't paint the box around the target in POI mode. However, you may want to try Active Track in Spotlight mode and see if you get similar results.

Could you not have done this with the regular circular movement around a POI by moving the sticks though?
So I understand.. you can still get above (poi) and back out to desired radius or select to "box" the (poi) by selecting the options next to mph on bottom of app. I don't think this option is on the Air but when the rain lets up Ill check my 2
I think it should work on the Mavic Air as well. But let me know what you find out. Happy Flying!
The air only allows you to gps center point and orbit around it. I also discovered that the air lets you touch screen and move camera up and down , the M2 you can hold finger on screen and move camera in any direction at any time.

Ok I may have missed the trick here haha.. in the end you flew the drone manually, or how was the POI working while you were overriding the feature? I was trying to figure it out. Or was it that the POI was working the spin around while you were adjusting the framing? Anywas Awesome composition and subject selection!
Yes you are correct Rogelio, the poi was working the entire time. I just adjusted the framing with my left stick. Thanks for the comment!
I cant figure how to make a quare as a target? For doing POI i need yo fly over the Target, centre it and then that is my target. How do you draw the target square?
My old Inspire, using the standard DJI Go, requires the center over the target. This is with the DJI Go 4 with the Mavic 2. Are you using these?
So you’re doing manual orbit and gimbal tracks tower? I guess I’m asking full manual control other than gimbal?
Yes, full manual other than the gimbal. However when you move the sticks you are still in orbit. So for example if you move you right stick to the right you will still go in a complete circle eventually counterclockwise around the POI.

Interesting; I"ll have to give it a try. I noticed that all the anti-collision sensors were off (icon all red.) Did you turn them off, or is that normal for POI, or an artifact of this undocumented menthod?
Yep, that is just me turning the sensors off. I like to fly pretty close to things sometimes, so the sensore can be a little too sensitive and make the shot pause. That being said, having the sensors on has saved my bacon several times in the past.
Jeff, I have to ask you a question. I have Mavic Pro, latest version of DJI Go APP, When I went o follow your instructions, I could not "Paint" the box around the POI. I tried and tried. Is there some secret how to do this. My Mavic is about 18 months old. Want to try it out, but I i cannot get it to record the POI like you did in your video.

Hi Nick, that is a good question. If you have a mavic pro, you can only use GPS to set the poi. If you have the mavic 2 pro, this additional option allows you to paint the target like active track. You may be able to do something similar using active track in spotlight mode. I'll double-check and see what I can find.
@@JeffGreeneChannel, thanks for info, I thought I was losing it for a second. I was following along with your video, then I would get to the painting of the box and nothing...Hopefully they may update the app for Pro someday to include that same feature.
Jeff, one last question. I have not been able to put my drone up in the air. I am in Florida and with Dorian, we have been getting wind gusts and a lot of rain. So, being I have mavic pro, will I still be able to manually control the movements like you did in the video and will the process still be the same? Reduce speed to 0mph, etc...
@@NickandCindyDavis I think you can get very similar results. There will basically be a slider that allows you to choose clockwise or counterclockwise (in the middle is neither direction). So after you set the poi, you should still be able to manipulate the sticks. Stay safe in FL. We are up next in NC😳

Can you do this with a moving POI? For example a boat or car or similar?
Oh man, now we're talking! Not sure, but another commenter did mention this may be possible using spotlight mode in active track. I have not tried this but is a really good idea if it works. Let's find out

I am not sure about that. I believe the Mavic Air only uses GPS for POI...but what about Active Track perhaps?

Hi Abel, unfortunately this may only be possible on the mavic 2 pro. However you may get similar results with active track in spotlight mode. i have not tried that yet but is just an idea.
@@JeffGreeneChannel Hi. I already tried the spotlight mode in MA. It works but I also found a "situation" and I'm not sure if I'm doing it wrong or it's an technical problem. When I select the spotlight mode, select the object to track and hit GO everything works well but when I start to move far to the side the right stick direction changes (left becomes back, right becomes forward,forward left and backwards right) and it doesn't change until I get closer to the tracked object. That happened also with trace mode but also affects the left stick. Any idea what could be the problem? Btw I almost crashed the drone because of this issue. Thanks in advance.
