    I have a question not really related to this video, but I haven't seen an answer yet. It has to do with cost per mile of power consumption. If you drove an M3LR and a YLR down a street neck and neck, does the M3 use less power overall than the Y? Another way. You drove each car from 80% to 20% charge, again, under same conditions, would the MY take more KW to charge back to 80%?

    • @sunnysider6350
      @sunnysider6350 3 месяца назад

      In CA the electricity rates are sky high, so the savings are dubious. I calculate about 20 % per mile saving vs gasoline tops. To save the $5000 per year I'd have to drive 1,000,000 miles like an Uber driver.

    • @derrekb4501
      @derrekb4501 3 месяца назад

      @@sunnysider6350 No one saying that, you are. The $5000 estimated saving is for 5 years and it's actually quite low. Avg car per gallon is 25MPG, average mileage driven per year is 15000, that's 600 gallons per year, or average CA fuel price of 4.5, That's $2700 fuel cost if you are in CA, on the low side, when you drive a Tesla you monthly electrical cost will about around $50 to $100, highest is probably $1200, there you saved $1500 per year fuel, times 5 years, you are look ing at $7500 saving in fuel. Plenty, the demand *growth* just slowed down this year, it didn't drop. And once you've driven one you realize just how dumb it is to waste so much time and effort to drill and refine fuel just to pay for gas, oil changes, transmissions, differential fluid, spark plugs, etc to burn that fuel by revving an engine at most to 40% efficiency. An EV just needs wipers and tires for 200k miles and still have 90% range left. It literally makes NO sense not to buy an EV, for at least a city car as long as you can charge at home or work.

    I'm sure Tesla has options with RWD 3, it can go LR like they did with the Y, they could drop the price and keep current battery, or who knows perhaps they're negotiating with CATL to license tech and produce them in NA, with latest LFP battery tech you would get improved energy density. How cool would that be, an LFP RWD with ~300 miles of range, with tax credit around $30,000.
