I absolutely love my Stealth Hybrid. Played a narrow Par 5 this week and only hit the hybrid from tee to green. It is so easy to hit and is a massive confidence builder!
I always carry a 4-hybrid (and sometimes a 3, as well), and find while I rarely use it off the tee, it makes for a fantastic recovery club. If I have a pesky tree blocking my line after an errant tee shot, I find that I can still play 100-150 punch runners by choking down to the shaft an making crisp contact.
I’m a senior (70) golfer who typically shoots in the low to mid-80s. Just purchased a Mizuno JPX Fli-Hi 7 hybrid, so my longest iron is an 8 which I hit 130-135 yards. The thing is, I have an easy club to hit from any distance up to 200 yards. My driver goes 220 on average. I practice a lot with my wedges and putting. I even use my hybrids for chipping. I don’t mind when my playing partner is using an iron and I’m using a hybrid. More often than not, I’m writing down par to his bogey!
Ron Ito, I was interested in your comment because I am 80 and have a 16-17 handicap. I play forged blades with weak traditional lofts, so my 8 iron basically now carries 125 yards, possibly 130 on a perfect strike. My driver carries about 205-210 and goes about 225-235 depending on roll, so it seems similar to your length. Given that driver length, if you don't mind my asking, what tees do you play? Up until this year I had been playing the blue tees, or the second from the back, at the courses I go to, meaning total yardages of 6250 to 6825. That meant I had to use at least a 19 degree utility club or 5 wood if not a 3 wood on the longer par 4s, which in effect made them basically par 5s. But for the usual ego reasons I stayed on the long tees and accepted the higher scores. Last year I began playing on the white tees, with total yardage of 5975 to 6285. But I realize that I am still going to face long iron or utility club second shots on any par 4 longer than 390 or 400. After watching several PGA tournaments on TV this year, it suddenly occurred to me to pay close attention to what clubs the pros were using on approach shots and par 3s. On most par 4s the pros are using wedges and short irons. Almost all of them can hit drives of 295-300 yards, so on a 400 yard par 4 they are using a sand wedge. A drive and a 9 iron will get them to a 450-460 yard hole. So I thought to myself, what the heck, why not at least try playing some rounds from whatever tees will enable me to use more or less the same club selection that the pros use and see how I score. Forget ego, I told myself, you can always play the white tees if you wish. But why insist on putting myself in the position of playing driver and 5 wood when any pro or even a low handicap amateur would be playing driver and wedge. So have decided that this year, I am going to play some if not most of my rounds from whatever tee will allow me to use pretty much the same clubs the pros do. That means keeping most par 4s under 350 with the occasional one that is downhill or unavoidably longer, say 390 yards, meaning driver and 5 or 4 iron, with total yardages for 18 holes of 5,000 to 5725 an my courses. Are you getting close to doing the same thing for the same reasons?
Another great video. You gave the Ping G425 Max hybrid rave reviews, do you like the TM Stealth hybrid even more?
Great advice. The longest iron in my bag is the 7. Trying out hybrids from the 2-8. Really enjoy your channel.
Awesome! Thank you!
That’s definitely the way to go - I carry up to 6 iron and have #4 & #5 hybrids instead of longer irons
I have mizuno 4-7 fli hi hybrid irons, awesome,
I use my hybrid for a lot of shots. When I need a little less distance than my 3w, to bump and run, out of the rough and for a stinger shot when I have to keep the ball low due to a tree.
I ordered a Stealth Hybrid 6 custom from TM, sent it back, had a horrible left bias for me that I didn't have from my Sim2 max that I replaced it with after a little searching. But I also have the Cobra LTD Hybrid X in a 4, I love that club, 1deg stronger than my Sim2 max, but a good 10 yards longer. LOVE HYBRIDS!!!
I know that many golfers love hybrids. Over the years I have had more than 20 hybrids in my bag, both steel and graphite, from 7 different manufacturers. I could not hit any of them well. This year I put a 3 and 4 Srixon ZX U in my bag. Even though I am a lower swing speed play er, they ate far superior to any hybrid I have ever had. I saw your video on the Srixon ZX4 irons, and although my heartrt said ZX5, my pro said ZX4, I got them 2 degrees weak and swapped out the stock shafts for the lighter KBS Tour 90's and got oversize grips. For me that combo is awesome
Try Apex UX from Callaway. They are the easiest, straightest and most consistent. They sit between a hybrid and fairway wood. They don't balloon at all. I hit the 17 and 19 degree further than my 3w.
I've had hybrids in the bag for the past 10 years. Currently, I have a 4 and 5 hybrid but have at times added a 3. Easiest clubs in the world to hit!
Hybrids are a good option, but I like to match my woods and hybrid in the same family....and possibly the same shaft...Much eaiser to play and control your clubs....
I have the Stealth 7,6&5 Hybrids. 165,180,195 yd carry on average and 85-100 ft peak height. 7 iron is my lowest lift iron at 34 degrees. So much easier to hit from whatever lie you run into. Just replaced my 7W with a Epic Super Hybrid now that the prices dropped. It is the 3H and is going 205 and higher than my 5H. Only problem is I’ve got a bag full of head covers now.
That’s an awful bag of clubs 🙈
I finally put a six and a seven hybrid in my bag this year. Had to do a little work to find ones with a stiff shaft, but it was well worth the wait.
I actually got the six and the seven because gapping they were replacing my five and six irons perfectly.
Great to read Sean and o bet your loving them?
How about some more hybrid love for us average golfers and do a comparison of around 7 or 8 different brands head to head? Taylor Made, Callaway, Cobra, PXG, Cleveland, Ping, Titleist, Ben Hogan, and Srixon are names that come to mind. PLEASE!!!
Yeah I like that idea
I also use my hybrid for punch shots when trees are the problem. 👍🏼
i would add versatility as hybrids are easy to hit out of rough and fairway bunkers
I just got done with a fitting and hit the Stealth hybrid like a beast. As soon as my new Stealth irons come in I’ll need to see what my distance is on my lowest iron (5) and fill in the gap with these rockets for hybrids.
Cobra King Tec 4 hybrid....I love it!
Hi Andy ! Love the new format with the specs at the end of the video ....Thank you and Cheers from Canada East Coast .
Hi Andy , great review and I couldn’t agree more- I’ve just bought the 3&4 hybrids which not only fill the yardage gaps I was hoping for, they are soooo consistent it’s amazing ! (200-215 with the 4 and 215-230 with the 3 )
Annnnd ! When I first tried the 4, I didn’t know what make of club the pro had handed me until I’d hit a few balls !
I love to hear feedback from golfers who have the product and glad you are finding the same, they are absolute beasts
I carry 3 hybrids and absolutely love them.
I've put 3,4 and 5 hybrids in my bag this winter, my 26 degree 5 hybrid is fast becoming my favorite club it's so easy to hit, I'm considering a 6 or 7 hybrid to finish my bag but they're difficult to find S/H with a regular shaft at present
Andy, have you tried the Cleveland Halo XL hybrid? Btw, your putting has become crazy good! Cheers!
I admit I changed to a 3 and 4 hybrid away from a 3 and 4 iron. Thinking of changing to a 5 wood from the 3 hybrid. Hoping to float it into the green a little more.
They really are good options
Yep I no longer carry 4 or 5 irons, I carry WS 22 and 28 degree hybrids. I think manufacturers should stamp clubs the loft in degrees (small font) and number (large font),as there is so much variation these days. Up to 6 degrees between 5 irons from the same manufacturer !
I currently game the TSI1 and it's an absolute wand from any lie
Glad you like the Stealth hybrid. I've got the 5 hybrid and also a M4 4 hybrid.
I’ve been fighting replacing my 4 iron for years now, but after watching this I might think about the 5 too!
The new ltdx hybrids are really good this year too I’ve just grabbed myself the 3h love it! Great vid
Think it's important that you have confidence and ease of use in clubs higher up the bag. The shots you where playing where rather impressive ,need to be playing more and try some different hybrids they've not been kind to me yet .
I think hybrids have come on a lot in recent years
It’s a great call, deliver consistently that way
I have the 3 stealth hybrid and it's my go to club especially on tight courses. Can't fault it
I added a Tour Edge hybrid this year, and I'm starting to go to it more and more!
I would like to try Tour Edge but cant access the product
@@TheAverageGolfer I have Tour edge the 3 wood and 2 hybrid .. last years model... only American golf sell them in uk... lovely looking clubs.. got them in sale...
My g20 3 hybrid is also my driving iron
I thought you were completely sold on the new Callway Rogue hybrids this year?
I was watching your video with the Rogue hybrid and as you point out, why endure the risk/reward of my 4 or 5 iron? I started using my G425 4 hybrid in many situations that I would normally pull an iron. Once I wrapped my head around the fact that I’m not as good a ball striker as I imagine 🙈, there is so much less stress in difficult situations taking an easy pass with the hybrid. Last month I added the Stealth 3/4/5 hybrid. Better , more fun rounds. Stealth hybrids feel great!
Would be great to see your numbers on the 5 hybrid (your other video on that was good) vs 4 hybrid, and 3 hybrid if you have one one hand! Be interesting how much difference you see between the models…eg is it worth carrying 5 and 4 hybrid
Thanks for the idea!
Yes please. That’s a vote from me. I find the hybrid numbers so confusing as so often the equivalent iron does not go nearly as far distance-wise and then you end up with gapping issues. Often there isn’t the whole range to demo so you end up taking a bit of a guess. I’d love to see your data Andy from the range. Appreciate it is only your data but would give us Averages a good starting point.
Question. I have a terrible time with shot number 2. Good off the tee. Around the green is my strength. Any idea of a hybrid i could try that id be less likely to top the ball. Enjoy the channel. Checking out your new one too
I completely agree that more people should replace king irons with hybrids. I have a question though. I currently play the sim 2 max, how would it compare to the stealth?
Styling, they don’t change much yearly
@@jayholiday256 that’s pretty much what I figured. Not that I was going to run out and buy it, but still 🤣
@@silvertone6273 we all need to remember that, me too, I’ll get a weak moment and buy the stick sometimes
Andy, I have driver, 7 wood, the Apex Utility wood, a 6Hybrid, then 7-9 irons. Which club would I benefit from by adding to the bag?
Have you tried the Cleveland hy wood?
Could you do a comparison between the big hybrid irons at the moment? I feel like hybrid irons are a category on their own seperate from super game improvement clubs.. (super dooper game improvement lol)
I was thinking:
Cleveland xl halo
Cleveland hb turbo
Cobra trail
Wilson launchpad
And possibly tour edge iron Woods?
for 370.00 canadian i think i will stick to my 7 wood Ping itsi it does it all (range is about 190 yds)
Which loft we're you using? I missed that on the video? Great video showing all the options for this club during a round.
It was a 4 hybrid at 22°
@@TheAverageGolfer Thanks Andy.
Where did you find the ball marker? I play the Tour Response Stripe ball and believe the ball marker would make alignment easier
Hi Andy! Is the hybrids versatility tge reason it replaced a FW? I have a 7 and 5 wood, no hybrids. FW much easier to hit for me! 😊
Great vid picked up a set of PXG 0211DC great irons love em
Wise decision Tommy
I added a Fourteen 3 hybrid, and a Callaway 7 wood.
What shaft in your driver? UST V2 high launch?
Hey Andy, which hybrid is easier to hit between stealth and rogue st max?
Seems like your really pushing Taylormade this year yet you still use PXG irons. I think the Ping G425 Hybrid is more versatile and forgiving than the Stealth.
Better than the g425 then?
So does this club replace your 7 wood?
Couldn’t get on with the stealth Andy. Looks and feel are huge. Went for the Rogue st just on feel and looks no difference on performance.
Absolutely Andy a great choice
Stealth Plus rescue hybrid is the best I've ever had.
Thanks for the feedback Gary
Great review Andy. What do you play on either end of your hybrid? 5 iron / 5W?
Yes spot on
It’s kind of funny not long ago you were praising the Callaway Rogue. Now not sure what I wii do lol.
I'll take the New ADAMS Golf Hybrids over any TaylorMade Hybrid ANYDAY, and EVERYDAY of the week!!!
Hi Andy, would you prefer the stealth hybrid over the Ping G425 Hybrid ore vice versa? 16hcp needs some support here;-) Thx & Cheers, Frank
Tough one and depends what you are looking for, I would say the G425 more forgiving and higher launching & probably my choice
@@TheAverageGolfer Bought a TourEdge 5Hybrid C721 for UKP 99,- the other day - will put it to the test soon thx & cheers
I’ve tried both and I like the G425 more than the Stealth. But my driver, iron set, and bag are all TM. So I went with the Stealth over the G425 😢
I thought you were going to say it was the Apex21 hybrid. You commented on a previous video that it was a secret weapon.
It was the Callaway UW Randy, and I do feel it is a great club but this offers more flexibility for average golfers IMO
Sorry to conplane again I do love your revewes but the smash factory can not be right 1.53 is not possible with a driver let alone a 4 hybrid
It’s a constant issue Martyn and I have continually raised with Trackman, I feel the club head speed is incorrect but they haven’t resolved. If your wrapped up in the data then it’s an issue but the metrics that matter to me are the carry, launch and spin all of which seem accurate when taking to the course as you can see.
how can you not like the stealth 3 wood if you love the 4 hybrid 💀
Is it adjustable?
Not this model
What about a budget friendly brand. Recommend?
PXG 0211 range is incredible value
@@TheAverageGolfer thank you! Love this channel
@@jimharvey9894 cheers Jim
1 minute 37 seconds into the video pixels appeared to cover the hybrid. Why did that happen?
We used it to create the thumbnail and forgot to delete before we uploaded the video
I’ve got this as a 5 hybrid. Think it’s brilliant for hitting into the green 170-180. I hit it so straight and high. Tried the 4 hybrid but can’t get on with it. Seen to push everything right. It’s very bizarre
Thats is odd, same shaft?
I had the same issue, love my Stealth 5H, but not so much the 3 and 4. Try the Epic Super Hybrid in a 3H, the prices just dropped.
@@gregborst8213 it’s really bizarre to explain. Had the old rogue hybrid in 4 not a problem and now G425 absolutely smash that just couldn’t use the stealth 4 and lost all confidence in it. Obviously me and not the club but absolutely no explanation for it
i don't get that kind of distance out of my 22 degree g425 hybrid (about 195yrs max), with swing speed similar to yours or slightly higher. is stealth that much longer?
I am never persuaded by 'data' alone but the Stealth seems hot off the face and was definitely longer than the suggested loft
I think you would need the same launch monitor to check your launch angle at impact. That would probably show a higher launch due to your angle of attack at impact.
U just recently said the Callaway st rogue was the best.
I would check your facts Kent
What facts did I miss?
@@kentnewkirk759 the bit where I say this is the best golf club I tested in 2022 👍
@@kentnewkirk759 he did rave about the Rogue in a video 2 months ago
What about the Callaway UW?
I found the hybrid to give me more options
how much different is it to the sim 2 hybrid
The Sim2 is a great hybrid, the surprise to me is as to how fast the face is on the Stealth and they seem very long for the stated loft, thats not necessarily a positive but they maintain a great ball flight as well.
Not really any different to any other hybrid!.....I play Ping ....wonderful hybrids!
When did you try it Ken?
More consistent than G425🤔
What a let down. Thought it was going to be a less known boutique style like fourteen or something.
Was fitted for new hybrids yesterday. Stealth was by far the worse for me. Surprisingly Cobra LTDX out performed all via trackman and hitting onto the range. I’m a 12 handicap
You have a interesting voice but one I barely know what is being said
😂😂
no hybrid has ever worked in my bag.
Pat phelan
0p
Poppppppppppppppp
Lol every club is your best club of the year
Is it really though Devon?
