I've been hunting for clear and descriptive puppet pin tutorials tonight, and this is by far the best one I've found. Damn nice work! Showing that you can change the type of pin in the effects panel is super helpful. But most helpful is showing you do the standard pins, then the starch pins before you do the animated pins. And that you can use the advanced pin for animation. All of that has taught me more than a bunch of other tutorials I've watched tonight. Thanks bud!

    • @BooneLovesVideo

Dude, I spent almost 3 days trying to figure out whether I wanted to rig, tween or do a frame by frame animation. None of those options felt particularly intuitive. I discovered pins using AE and I watched your tutorial to get started. This method is easily going to cut my project time in half. I'm excited to do my animation now!

It's a huge improvement that the new puppet carries scale and rotation properties, very exciting.
But it seems that the starch pin of advanced engine works very differently from the legacy one. In advanced engine, the mesh with starch pins will still be flexible which makes it difficult to actually make a "bone".
I wonder if there's a way to gain both of the advantages of advanced and legacy engines.
