THAT TICKLES DUDE
You da real MVP
Thank you
holy crap, I'm not even close to being fully familiarized with PS/AE, but you walked us through that so coherently and at a pace that seems manageable. Looking forward to the next one!
Thank you so much. I always struggle with how much to speak about apps we don't open often on this channel, but are pretty essential to a process. I'm so glad you enjoyed it :)
You see, when you get to 60 and you're a semi regular user of PS, this whole video looks like a Chipmunk on speed, but it is excellent none the less !
@@ECAbrams 16:38, how did you call up their position as you said here? is there some shortcut for that?
@@user-bu5tx3yt9f for calling up any property in After Effects there are keyboard shortcuts. They may be different depending on your keyboard language. For me it's the P key for the position. But you can access properties by twirling down in the timeline, and if you're working with the latest version of Ae, there is the new properties pannel. Many ways to call up position.
@@ECAbrams I have another question: when it comes to "particules" such as in a pinata thing or a mini volcano throwing multiple small items, what would you say is the best method to animate all the little items moving/ being thrown away by the mini volcano or sweet falling from a pinata? Its tricky because you need to animate every item/ every particule, and they must all have their own direction and angle.. so I wonder what do you have to say about that?
Alright everyone. I found the painting used in the picture - it's " *Joseph Ducreux - Discreet Secret* ". I don't know why the hell it is such a big deal to say the name instead of " _it's wildly available on wikipedia_ ", that the author answers to everyone, but anyways, here you go!
thank you very mch
thanks bro
Tks a bunch. This guy is sooo pro that sometimes he forgets about simple stuff!!!!
Perhaps he didn't share the name of the painting... because it's a rather discreet secret...
11:43 Love that sound effect
Only the best sound effects on this channel
@ECAbrams I can't stop laughing thank you lol 🤣 you had me at Monty Python and then you Do-do-da-do'ed me 🤣😭🤣
Really excellent tutorial! The vector masks in PS are a great tip for this and the camera parallax is something I'm definitely going to use immediately. Thank you!
Hands down one of the most thorough and well organized tutorials I've watched. Thank you for creating this - I've learned a lot and I can see this being a permaent refernce as I practice w/ AE.
That drag&drop mask from "paths" to the desired layer is simply amazing and so useful!!!
Glad to know that I have been using similar techniques in all my projects where I need to animate a still image. I always wonder if there is a better way to do this.
17:28 OOOOOOOH LAAA DEEE DAAAAAH
😂😭
I am SO far from being able to do any of this but was mesmerised by your skills. Great video!
"You can really Monty Python it up. Doo doo doop pa doop doop doo doo doop doop." 😂
I've learnt how to use Photoshop to a pretty good standard from RUclips, I think now it's time I got into After Effects, cheers for the vid, I think you will be my go to guy for this one 👍🏻
I really appreciate tutorials like this. I would never search "Animate a Portrait" but the learned new tools like content fill.
edit: and the control-click the scale nodes to deform (enter to confirm)
I have never used AE but you mannaged to explain it so clearly I can actually understand and have a general idea how to start practicing
WOW. This one was shocking. I'm - could say - pro in PS but never imagined these LOT of great tools could be used in AE! This is just brilliant!
Your face flipping, merging, blending technique was REALLY helpful! Thanks!
You're welcome. We may get into more Ps techniques in future videos so stay tuned for more!
P
Oh man Im kicking myself for not having started after effects until now, this is so exciting you can do all this, and you really have a great comprehension and explanation of how this many different elements work. perfect tutorial
Amazing tutorial! I’d been wanting to learn how to do this for a long time. Thank you so much for sharing the video! 😀🙌🙌🙌
2ManyDJs did this years ago. They would perform with a huge screen displaying album covers & have the figures move around. Such a trip.
Saw this on twitter, can't wait to watch the video!
This is a great tutorial, and just learned a bunch of new stuff for AE and PS. I will definitely try this and integrate that in one of my video, thank you!!
Damn, I feel so smart after watching this.
Jajajajajajajaj
Thank you, sir! I very much appreciate your tutorials!
Great tutorial, great audio quality, appropriate speed, useful side notes about hotkeys and corresponding editing techniques. New tutorials are highly appreciated.
Thanks. I'm glad people are enjoying them. It's taken a while but I might be finding a good groove with these things.
The puppet pin tool is gonna be a gamechanger for me, thanks!
omggg i've always wanted to do thisssss
In the pen tool I suggest using the rubber band mode. It allows fewer points because you can see the curved line your are creating.
Such a great tutorial! Thank you Evan!
Your voice and the way you're explaining everything so clearly are making me full of energy and ready to follow your tutorials :D Love this channel, thank you !
Great tutorial, thank you. I'd really love to know more ways how to animate fabric easily with After Effects other than Turbulent Displace if possible.
awesome video!
btw for photoshop id recommend using masking layers instead of erasers and you can group multiple layers with cmd+g instead of merging them down. i always find an issue when i come back to my work and having a non destructive edits means you can keep adjusting in the future :)
SO COOL! LOVE THIS KIND OF STUFF!
Your photoshop techniques to separate layers are very helpful. Thanks for the tip!
I've always wanted to learn how to do this! Thank you for the tutorial!
Manic Velocity oh my god I realised I said the exact same thing lol
You're very welcome. Enjoi!
Easily the most entertaining and informative Tut' I've seen. First rate.
This is a great and helpful tutorial, but can we just marvel at the creative programmers that were able to code all of this? Machine learning has come so far and the people behind them are wizards
that smooth bald head is goal. You rock this style like a king
I have so much to learn, thank you for this. I will be pausing the replay a lot! Have a great day, Rick.
Thanks that was fantastic!
I usually cannot stand video tutorials but this was fantastic. Great pace, very thorough with excellent tips! I feel like I've learned more from this video than 90% of every video I've seen combined. Well done!!
Happy to be a rare exception.
This is the tutorial I've been waiting forrrrrrrrrrr.
EC DA GOAT
I should have used a photo of a goat!!! Next time when we talk about making portraits talk there will be animals.
Wow wow, excellent tutorial thank you. I'm so glad that I come across to your channel!!! Just subscribed!

Loved this tutorial! Thank you so much, after 3 years of being a full-time editor. Really helpfull and inspirationall!!
Great to hear!
This was BRILLIANT! Thanks for making this. I cant wait to try this out with some upcoming projects! I’m guessing I’ll have plenty of time now with potentially being locked down thanks to Coronavirus! My plan is to learn as much as possible in this time - going to be using your tutorials for sure!!
Absolutely. The goal is to keep content flowing as often as possible around here during this tough time.
You have been blesssed with this powerful knowledge thank you. I must go now and become the legend I was created to be 🤞🏾✨
That's brilliant tutorial! It looks rly cool)))
Nice job your tutorial are just perfect, you inspire me to start my channel (in french) in 2015 and I hope I will have more time to upload more videos soon. Tks for you time buddy!
That's fantastic! It's so good to get more Francophone educational resources out there.
Pin tool thats all i need thank you so much ive been struggling with rigging in AE and you sir helped me a lot with that!
This was a very good tutorial. You are a good teacher! Instant follow.
Very cool the final effect, I definetly want to try it
- hold down space to move a pen point around
- work path selected + layer selected + cmd + click mask icon to get a vector mask
- cmd E = merges selected layer with the one bellow, PRESERVING VECTOR MASK
- these are gonna save me YEARS of life, thank you
Loooooved this!! You did an awesome job explaining this.
oh man, your voice and your guiding skills are just top notch. How doesn't this video have more views??
I'm glad you like it. So long as the people who find it are into it, that's all I need.
Subscribed! Love how you explained it sir!
This is so helpful! Thank you for sharing.
As always listening to your soothing voice make me relax and enjoy along your video tutorials. 😊 Thanks
Fascinating stuff, I’m not versed in photoshop , just use Premiere Pro but I wanted to learn about animating very similar to what you just did. My Mom was a painter and my thought is to take a pic of her painting and have something move in it. I have a painting in mind, just to figure out what the heck you are doing and if it’s something I could even learn! Thanks
you're a great teacher, love the simplicity, with details! subbed!
Nicely done, Evan. Thank you.
Such a cool effect
Really interesting process. Very well presented. 👍🏻
Thank you! Perfect!!!!
Well you are very welcome :)
Another great tutorial by the master himself :D
Thanks!
SUCH A CLEAR VIDEO ! THANK YOU ! YES I AM SCREAMING !
I'm gonna try this out. I'm good with Photoshop, I just need to learn a bit more of after effects. Could you please point out to key tutorials for the techniques used here?
Thank you for the tutorial! Gave me a look into how people created those amazing painting animations. And I suspect that you are Canadian :)
You caught me.
amazing tutorial, thanks!
Thanks for the great tutorial but i have question, how did you make the frame appear at the start followed by the man jumping in middle of the frame?
Please if any one have an idea can also help.
Thanks!
awesome tutorial ! Gonna try this soon
I absolutely love this tutorial so much! Your work is brilliant. I'm so intrigued by the concept of animating classic art paintings. Do you have more samples of other paintings, or know of where I can find more examples? I definitely would like to try this. Maybe with a 16th century Holbein Tudor painting. Or another 18th century piece like this one! I appreciate your tutorials, they help so much!
Soooo happy I found this video!!
This was such an awsome tutorial he explained every aspect that matter instead skipping steps 5/5 !
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you ! You did a great job simplifying such a complex daw....Looking forward to be a great producer

I'm working on a project with the puppet pin tool and the link at the joints is going to help alot
Exactly how a tutorial should be! Thanks!
10:38 did I miss something? How did it go from erasing parts to moving parts?
You make the best tutorials of motion design ! Thank you !!!
One of the best tutorials I've ever seen. 11/10
Jesus, you make it look so easy. And then that reality when I open photoshop and am like “wtf” haha. Great video!

Love to see you again❤
It's great to be seen. :)
thank you for the share mate, it was to the point and easy to get.
Cool effect 🙂👍
Incredible, love this!
You explains this tutorial very fast ,hope you expline slowly because im new in these programs
Sorry about that. It's a lot to cover in a decent time. I recommend people pause, rewind, and sometimes watch twice when they miss-step. Stopping to try out the techniques and coming back is also a good idea. These things can be complex if it's your first go and we have to assume some familiarity with the apps when we're showing more intermediate uses of the program on a project basis. Thankfully though, adobe has some great beginner learning resources in the apps themselves that I really recommend checking out to get familiar with the tools and interface.
