What's crazy is that a $45000 Laredo is considered a "value." I mean considering $70000 is fully loaded, 45k doesn't sound like a lot, but its by no means affordable. I'm in shock with how expensive automobiles are getting!
That's because people keep buying them at these high prices and just getting 72/84 month loans nowadays. Used to be crazy to get anything over 48 months.
Jesse I remember in the '60s, you couldn't get car financing for over a year! But then again, the car warranties were for only a year, the cars were...crapolas and a $15,000 car was an expensive car! 😂 FYI, a new VW bug would set you back about $800 and a VW bus 1,700! I agree with Tommy 100% on that Laredo. I’m debating between Laredo or Altitude so please don’t forget to include a more affordable (Base Model) on one of your next reviews. Keep up the great work guys 🤙🏼
The Laredo is 45k with power liftgate and sunroof. That's insane for a base model with cloth seats. Not to mention Jeep's interest rate for one of these was at 6% with a credit score at 740 and above. I was recently in the market for a new suv and couldn't find a limited under 54k. That's what dealers were charging with market adjustment fees and that 6% interest rate.
We have a 2018 limited with the hemi and all the safety and tech options. I was nervous about it since reliability can be an issue but it has had absolutely no problems and has about 60k miles on it now. My grandparents are in love with the thing. Definitely would buy the new generation.
My 104k mile 2014 has had more break on it than all my other cars (3 other cars over 25 years) put together. I still like mine a lot but I sincerely hope you have better luck than I have had.
60K miles? Get ready to replace your first water pump. My '11 5.7 Overland needed one at 65K and ~120K. It was one of my favorite vehicles that I have every owned but, man it got expensive to keep it going. When the air suspension started leaking I had no choice but to trade it around 135K miles. I do like the look of these new ones but if I ever get one, I'll definitely make sure I put a 10 year/150,000 mile warranty on it.
Right. When I bought my well equipped '14 limited 4x4, it stickered at $42k, paid $37.5k. It felt like a great value at the time. $57k for a new one is insane.
It’s not ridiculous when you consider inflation and just how much nicer of a vehicle it is. It also has significantly more standard features. It is quieter, rides better, handles better, brakes better, and the interior is in a completely different league.
@@ksantolini Exactly. Just because it says Grand Cherokee and uses the same 3.6 V6 doesn't mean it is the same vehicle. It is all new from the ground up. Literally the only carry over parts are the headlights switches, wiper controls, and engine/transmission (though they are tuned to be smoother and more refined)... Everything else is 100% new. Go actually sit in and drive the car before you say shit like it is not worth the extra money. It is a much nicer vehicle in every way . Well worth the money.
Just leased one of these today! It's even better in person. I had 2 years left on my 2020 Jeep Cherokee lease and Chrysler Capital didn't charge me any fees or anything extra to do a "pull-ahead". I have been leasing with them since 2017. I actually had about $3000 of positive equity on the Cherokee. So excited to spend the next 3 years in my GC!

TFL Should consider doing an offroad review for the Jeep GC 2022 4X4 Limited as more customers are likely to purchase the mid-range option, especially seeing these exuberant prices.
@@theone5404 - only a fool would disregard reliability when discussing the purchase of a $60k-$70k vehicle!! Also, the OP specifically spoke about “…buying Jeep again due to the low reliability.”! Where did you see the word ‘lease’ in this thread?
@@Bacnow well, 85% of the luxury car buyers are fools. All cars come with a warranty. Use it. The word buy means lease when it comes to buying cars in this time. Many that buy cars often get extended warranties. I don't buy into that old school nonsense of chrysler isn't reliable or German cars aren't reliable. Nonsense. You take care of the car and put the proper fuel in it, it'll take care of you. Never had a problem with my Jeeps or Audi's. 54 thousand and 98 thousand perspectively I keep my cars for 3.5 years and pay them off in cash over the course of 2 months of $9500 a week. That's relatively quick. After they're paid for, I don't have a single problem with them. However, my wife's current Lexus, Cadillac prior and Infiniti prior to that all had an issue or 2. They were supposed to be so great and reliable. My mother had a pricey amount of trouble out of her 4-Runner and none out of her Durango. So, I'm different and buy what appeals to oneself. Most people do. When spending this kind of money, you get what you want and not worry about so called reliability. In case something go's wrong, trade that car in and get another one.
I like the way this new Cherokee looks -- and I *REALLY* like the color on that $57K example! Reminds me of the 2015 Ecoboost Mustang convertible I owned before I traded it in April of 2019 for a Ranger XLT. It was a color Ford called Ruby Red. Really nice color, especially in the sunlight. They had a "candy" mixed in with the clearcoat, and it really popped.
Tommy does a good job letting know what this version is all about. I just got my 2021 GC Limited with the 5.7 (my be the last 5.7 WK2 ever built). I feel I got a deal even in this market because to get a 2022 with the 5.7 is significantly more expensive than the 2021. The drive lines are the same in 2022. No low range in the lower trim levels on the 2022. No sunroof or nav in the the 2022 limited trim. For me, they did reduce manufacturing defects over the 10 years of production. Not perfect but acceptable. Looked at other products. I wanted a better balance driving experience than the 3.6 provides. Good luck with the new ones.
I like the L my mom just got one absolutely love it drives nice the overland fully loaded spec with luxury 2 package fully loaded and all dealer add on options
Got my wife an Altitude L. I really like it. I would have loved to get the Overland (I had the previous gen overland). But we couldn’t justify that price. I leased my 2019 Jeep Overland for 550 per month. Now it would have been into the 700s. I took a quick drive it in and I like it.
At $17k more than I paid for my ‘14, it must be more reliable. The $8k of warranty work I’ve had done would go away! Thankfully I bought a Mopar warranty online that helped (highly recommended)
We're moving to New England soon and a 4x4 is a must have due to the snow so this is at the top of our list, but will be sad to see the Challeger Scat Pack go. I love what they have done with the interior of the new GC, especially that you can get cloth seats with the heated option since leather doesn't work for us in colder weather and they are pretty attractive. It has all of the safety features, remote start and driving assistance features as well. Actually, the only thing I can think of that we would want added to the red 4x4 Laredo shown here is fog lights. It's not a bad price for what you get and we'd delete the sunroof because we never use them which would save $1,095. Wouldn't need the passenger screen, either, as the husband or I would be on our smartphones on a long trip anyway. That trim level absolutely meets our needs. We haven't ruled out the 4xe for better mileage, but we trust the reliability of the 3.6L. So happy with the new exterior design as well. Looking forward to test driving one!
Went with the 22 Summit Reserve and so far besides the crazy price, I have no regrets!! Amazing Technology features, safety & comfort!! I do feel that this new model / redesign is slightly shorter / has less space than its previous Gen. besides that, great job Jeep!!
I just bought the 2024 Summit and added the passenger side screen, night vision (which is a great safety feature) and the MacIntosh stereo. Picking it up tomorrow. Its basically the same package as the Reserve without the ventilated rear seats and 20 vs 21 inch wheels but with the added night vision which I wanted. Its absolutely stunning. I really like the massaging front seats for long drives. The price is steep but it compares favorably to the BMW X5 and MB GLE350 which I've owned 2. To get those German cars appointed like the Summit would cost well over $80k. Inflation has really taken its toll on auto prices plus the new tech is not cheap.
In 5-7 years the passenger screen will no longer work, the tranny will be on its second rebuild, and the air suspension will be on its way out😂 I still want one tho!
@L H same here. My 2014 is an Alaskan Jeep and has seen some really bad weather and always got us home. So reliable I’m giving it to my oldest when she goes to Anchorage for college and I’m getting a 2022! 😂
I know a lot of people are complaining about the price, and by no means are they cheap, but to compare the new GC to the previous editions isn’t a fair match. The 2022 Laredo has more options and convenience features than the previous WK Limited and is evenly equipped with the WK2, with the exception of leather seats. The question is whether they moved it too far upscale. As far as looks, Jeep has apparently intentionally dramatically changed the looks and style of each new generation. My personal favorite was the WK with the sharp corners and compact size and the semi-circle headlights. I just wish they’d go back to the flip window hatch.
Just wanted to say thank you again for this video I have a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo and love it and for the most part I just need a simple 4x4 and for what you get in the new ones well I'm personally sold, thank you so much and till next time, have a Blessed day everyone
I’m really looking forward to seeing the pricing for the upcoming 4xe trailhawk version and to see what is standard and what is available to add. I will definitely be keeping this one towards the front of the list of vehicles to get.
The new GC is significantly more expensive. The Trailhawk starts at $51,670. My '18 Trailhawk started at $43,295: $8500 less...! This is a big jump, and the only practical difference I see is a bit more ground clearance and the sway bars. Destination charge is an outrageous $1800! ($1100 on the '18) Huge profit center for Jeep. I am left wondering about the Trailhawk's seats. Before, Trailhawk was the only way to get the much superior SRT seats in a non-SRT GC. I wonder if that's still the case? Also, if you want a (sluggish) V8, it's worth noting it's not available on the Limited anymore, meaning you'll have pay a lot more for a higher end trim level to get it.
I was going to pay a $670/mo lease for a 2020 JGC Limited 4x4 WK2 w/ a luxury package. I leased a 2022 JGC Limited 4x4 WL w/ a customer preferred package for $27/mo more. Extra $27/mo is very much worth it 👌🏽
As longest people pay prices will be high -it’s the dealers that have a freedom to set the pricing as they like and seat back and rake all profits-will see them next year when economy collapse
Every approx 6 years a new grand cherokee is introduced Tommy ... You guys are great your content is amazing please please if you can try to talk to us about the grand cherokee 2005 to 2010 i would appreciate it

When it's time to replace my '14 JGC Limited 4x4, it won't be with one of these. No two speed transfer case on the limited? Shiny black plastic everywhere? And it's $15k more than my nearly identically equipped '14? What a disappointment.
The limited has low range and hill decent control just like your 14’. It is also not 15k more lol. It is about 8k more and comes with significantly mote standard features. It is much quieter, smoother ride, better handling, and a significantly nicer interior. It is well worth the money. Better in every way.
@@jjchockey According to this video, the tested limited did not have a two speed transfer case. Also, it stickered at $57k, which is $15k more than the $42k my similarly specked '14 stickered at. Standard features here are irrelevant given that mine and the example here are similarly specked. I didn't say the new one lacked hill decent control so I don't know why you brought that up. Is the new one quieter? Does it have a smoother ride I don't know. And you don't either because you haven't driven both. Anyway, if you feel the new one is a great value, feel free to go ahead and buy one. If it was my 57k,. I would pick a Mercedes GLE 4matic over this. When I bought mine, there was nothing on the market and in its price range that could compete. That's just not the case now.
This Jeep the overland is so comfortable. With the higher upgrade packages. You get heat and cold lumber massage seats. I have nerve damage in my tailbone and so I need a really comfortable seat. I tested 25 passenger seats from cheaper and much more expensive luxury brands. The massage systems in other brands have. None compared to the Jeep. I fell asleep in it. During the test drive. So if you have a bad back and want to drive longer then 3o min get one. I built an Overland 3 row with the two higher tech and tow package. On the Jeep website. And came to a price of $63,645.
We bought the Overland late 2022 and it’s an excellent vehicle for long trips. The seats, stereo, and interior upsold us from the Limited. No regrets and no issues so far
@Bluemagoo2002 I still love it. We drove from Ogden to Denver for 9 hours and no back pain!!! And with the seats down loads of room for our dogs. They are big dogs. For Christmas, we are visiting our son, who is at ft Lewis Seattle. That will be a true test.
Remember when the WK2 was considered brand new back in 2011 and they did the same kind of review like this with the same red colour, time surely flies. The WK2 was still somewhat buff looking from the rear, and those acceleration numbers surely looked better than what this thing got. This happens when you add a bunch of electric crap dead weight without any power increase
The WL is supposedly 250 lbs. lighter than the WK2 so unless there’s some other changes like gear ratios, it should be as quick or quicker than the outgoing model.
I thought I might be able to find a deal on a left over 2021 WK2 now the 2022 WL is hitting showrooms, but it's the opposite! Some dealers are asking for a $7k "market adjustment" over MSRP for 2021s that they have on the lot, but will let me order a 2022 for MSRP. Crazy!
I ordered the Summit Reserve with night vision earlier this month…I wanted the V8, bigger rims and upgraded 19 speaker audio system and RGB ambient lights…
I just bought the Summit. I know its pricey but if you can afford it then why not. This is my 2nd GC. I also have a 2019 Limited 4x4 that I'm giving to my daughter. I kept the MSRP sticker and was shocked to see that it was $41,000 and change. I believe I bought it for $38,000. Now to be fair it does not have the interior of the new Limited BUT it was still very nicely appointed and very comfortable. It has a sun roof but not a panoramic sunroof. There is no real wood trim. Its probably more like today's Laredo but what a great value it was just few short years earlier. Can't believe I'm paying almost $70k for a new loaded version. I will say though, the air suspension and creature comforts are on par with a BMW X5 and Mercedes GLE350 (I've owned 2 in the past). My only complaint is that middle console with the piano black plastic. Cmon Jeep! For that price it should be wood. But otherwise its a beautiful swiss knife luxury SUV that can handle just about any weather or road condition thrown at it.
I would have a hard time spending 70 grand on the summit reserve. I’ve got a 2019 grand Cherokee trail hawk that’s had a lot of issues. Love the car but im probably done with jeeps after this.
@@kervensferdinand669 so you just assume I don’t take care of it? Two of the big issues I’ve had with the car have nothing to do with taking care of it.
Tommy, why do you think that people won't take these $40, $50, $60, and $70k vehicles off-road. Despite your modest means, you take a $35k vehicle off-road regularly. Also how is this different from someone taking a Jeep Rubicon or Badlands Bronco off-road (both arguably $50k+ vehicles)?
The difference is 90% of people buying those broncos won’t be taking them off road either. No different from this overpriced unit.. Tommys wrangler is priced rignt at what a nice sxs would cost
There's a different between going off-road and trying to do Mickey's Hottub. Not all off-roading is extreme or involves people throwing their rigs off Black Bear Pass.
Just bought 2023 grand Cherokee limited First, we had an issue with our trunk door being unevenly closed, which more likely will cause water damage, they fixed it under the warranty but it was not an easy task going through with dealerships, customer service, or the service center. Anyways after that issue was fixed, AC blew out hot air randomly, had to make an appointment with the dealer, and had to talk to Jeep customer care, going back and forth 8 times to the dealer, but it has not been fixed. All they saying is sorry, and to be patient, all I did was be nice and patient with the dealers and Jeep customer care. It’s been my worst nightmare won't buy anything from them ever again! !!!?!?!
Anyone who hasn’t had a car with gloss black console accents yet is in for such a horrible surprise when they scratch it to pieces the very first time they wipe the dust off of it. Lol this is a horrendous amount it and even in the base model. Man that sucks.
Great review! Unfortunately, it’s an FCA product with some of the worst reliability in America. They break & then FCA’s terrible service either won’t or can’t fix them. They should keep the lemon law attorneys gainfully employed for a while.
Literally happened with my 2021 wrangler. Trash dealer kept it for 60 days and then told me it was “normal” that the rear end was knocking lol. And when they refuse to fix something and say it’s “normal” and you try to work with jeep on a buyback they literally will not talk to you. Be ready to get a lawyer or trade it because those are you only options. CJDR have the absolute WORST mechanics at every dealership I have dealt with over the last 6 years. They have done things to my trucks and Jeep’s you would not believe on simple service issues.

This Laredo seems to be optioned much better then the outgoing models but I would prefer a different wheel and tire package. I don't mind the 18's but I would like an A/T tire and perhaps an inexpensive black steel wheel or a dark grey/charcoal wheel.
20%+ in options seems to be the standard no matter what brand or model you choose...yet, ironically, luxury brands come standard with less luxury features that have to be "added" back in with oprions/packages...
Tommy, the Laredo needs to be specked like that with a High AND Low range transfer case and a class IV receiver and then you're talking sense. Nobody wants leather in a real offroader. I'd also delete all sunroofs for a solid steel roof. First thing I would do when I got it off the dealer lot is try to go with as small of wheels as possible, 15", 16" if I could and get some real offroad tires. No air ride suspension either. You're not as old school as me. Lol!
I agree, the piano black on the console needs to go! It will never look clean. Huge Jeep fan, but yeah the prices are going up and up. 2017 my fully loaded California Edition Summit was stickered at $48k. Now in the $70s? Wow… still a value compared to the German competitors… but wow!

i have 2017 limited and its been killing i dont know if these new ones are better or not in term of reliability you know fun to drive handling road noise ???
This generation of grand cherokee wk2 on a solid frame, the new wl is no longer available, the dealer in Australia sent me with regards to the welded frame in wk2: Monocoque Body with Built-in Ladder Frame They say that superior off-road handling capability could only come at the expense of on-road smoothness. They have obviously never driven grand cherokee . By incorporating a lightweight and highly rigid monocoque body with a built-in ladder frame that provides added resistance to torsion and flexing and fixing them atop a dynamic independent suspension, Grand cherokee achieves an unprecedented combination of all-terrain control and luxury-sedan comfort. For added durability, grand cherokee now makes more extensive use of galvanized steel body panels, while the new aluminum hood panel reduces weight for better handling.
"Piano black" is a dumb phrase. It implies the highly lacquered wood on a piano. But for car interiors it really just means glossy black plastic. I'm much less impressed by the lower trim level quality than the above narrator. Still hard plastics in the same locations as before. I guess you'd have to jump up to Overland to get a good looking interior.
I see a lot of folks off-roading the air suspension versions and wondering why they have no articulation. If you plan on lifting and off-roading, be sure to do your homework to see what version is best for your long term plan.

My dad had the 15 overland with air suspension, heated and cooled seats, heated rear, NO blindspot, v6 for 43k
It’s not ridiculous when you consider inflation and just how much nicer of a vehicle it is. It also has significantly more standard features. It is quieter, rides better, handles better, brakes better, and the interior is in a completely different league.
It’s not the same vehicle. The amount of technology in this generation vs the last is LIGHTYEARS ahead. You can’t compare the two
@@ksantolini Exactly.
I like the WK 2 style better, perhaps because I own one.
Much better.
From generation to generation they keep on straying further from its root, which was suppose to be a offroad vehicle...
Yup. I have the 2015 summit. It still looks new.
I had a '98, Gen 1. Loved it and it's Magnum 318 V8.

If you don’t mind me asking, how much are you paying for the lease on one of these?
@@XxBigBrotherxXX $697 per month for 39 months for a Limited 4x4 with a "customer preferred package". I also always put $0 down.

TFL Should consider doing an offroad review for the Jeep GC 2022 4X4 Limited as more customers are likely to purchase the mid-range option, especially seeing these exuberant prices.
As much as I love my 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit V8, I don't think I will be buying Jeep again due to the low reliability.
I agree. In the end, they're just another Chrysler product. Once it's out of warranty, it just turns into a money pit.
Same…and the prices are ridiculous considering the competition which is ultra reliable!
@@Bacnow people buy what they like. Plus, 90% of the market is lease based. It's all about what you like. That reliability crap way of talking is old.
Please keep doing this base vs expensive. This is what matters
That sucks. My 14 Limited has been bullet proof since leaving the lot, May 2013. In my case we got the extended warranty and never used it.
The 4xe is an awesome way to get people comfortable with owning an EV without compromise. 25 miles is a lot for many people to use very little gas.
Visually, the two-row GC looks so much better than the three-row, extended version. Jeep got the proportions just right with the shorter version.

To me, the limited is the sweet spot. Got one myself, L. Incredible vehicle
In 5-7 years the passenger screen will no longer work, the tranny will be on its second rebuild, and the air suspension will be on its way out😂 I still want one tho!
That’s why you gotta lease!
Not exactly. My 2014 is flawless, big screen and all.
It’s nuts that “mid 40k range” is budget now.
If it scales at these insane prices will be looking at $80k
Showing LOVE for the channel thank you and have a Blessed day everyone
Inflation sucks
@@bradlaflamme6127 This is more than inflation. It's just flat out gouging at the limit of what buyers will pay.

This Jeep the overland
is so comfortable.

Nice vehicle, I'm starting to think TFL stands for Tommy Fast Lane, they're working you hard. At what price do tow hooks become recovery points?
Thank you very much for showing the SUV's in full without obstructing the view.

Thanks for showing the Laredo
I thought I might be able to find a deal on a left over 2021 WK2 now the 2022 WL is hitting showrooms, but it's the opposite! Some dealers are asking for a $7k "market adjustment" over MSRP for 2021s that they have on the lot, but will let me order a 2022 for MSRP. Crazy!
You are getting rubbed this days every way you turn around it’s like fypay pay me

Hey JLR interiors are pretty good as far as electronics quality……
I ordered the Summit Reserve with night vision earlier this month…I wanted the V8, bigger rims and upgraded 19 speaker audio system and RGB ambient lights…
Congrats and thank you! This simple video is way better than the Jeep website.
Jeep continues to improve there game, I hope it is enough as it will be 10 more years before we see another overhaul.
“🤔”When the base model stickers at $44,000…

Tommy, why do you think that people won't take these $40, $50, $60, and $70k vehicles off-road. Despite your modest means, you take a $35k vehicle off-road regularly. Also how is this different from someone taking a Jeep Rubicon or Badlands Bronco off-road (both arguably $50k+ vehicles)?

First, we had an issue with our trunk door being unevenly closed, which more likely will cause water damage, they fixed it under the warranty but it was not an easy task going through with dealerships, customer service, or the service center. !!!?!?!

This generation of grand cherokee wk2 on a solid frame, the new wl is no longer available, the dealer in Australia sent me with regards to the welded frame in wk2:
Monocoque Body with Built-in Ladder Frame
They say that superior off-road handling capability could only come at the expense of on-road smoothness.
