Bigger And More Luxurious Than Ever | 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee First Drive Review

  • The "American Range Rover" just got a full redesign with a more premium interior, more capable off-road systems, and soon a plug-in hybrid system will join the party. Most folks will be happy to know that the Grand Cherokee still comes with V6 or V8 engines, rear wheel drive and more doo-dads than most folks will ever need. Want the plug-in hybrid or semi-autonomous driving option? You'll need to wait until later 2022...

Wow, Jeep is really knocking it out of the park with the interiors of all their new vehicles. The Grand Cherokee was luxury-lite before but it’s full on luxury now in the upper trim.

Currently have an alfa stelvio which i love but thinking about switching to this new jeep.
Do you think the handling/cornering is anywhere near the alfa stelvio? Closer to a bmw/audi/mercedes? Or is this just a slight improvement from the typical jeep? Thanks again!

People who can afford to dish out this much for a fully capable vehicle really owe it to themselves to look into the Rivian R1S and make an educated decision. A decade ago I would have LOL'ed at any comparison between a Jeep and a Land Rover ( Range Rover?? PLEASE!!!). However, I have to give credit where it is due. Jeep/Dodge are no longer the low quality laughingstock they've been my whole life. When Fiat bought them out of the ashes, they put a global supply chain of high quality parts into those brands for the first time in----well----EVER. ZF transmissions, Bilstein shocks, Bosch electronic controls, etc. the whole panoply of the Fiat parts bin now flowed into what used to be the "cheapo" domestic. Now, Stellantis and their 11M cars a year juggernaut is going to keep that trend going. Let's see how this holds up 6 or 8 years from now for the final verdict; but I'm laughing no more.

I like it and i love jeep , but when i remember that my 2015 summit with only 87k miles and i had to change front air suspension 3 months ago which are pricey …, only to wake up this morning going to work with service air suspension immediately message forcing me to take my 2012 camaro which never failed me all these years ! While the jeep every year had 1-3 problems!! , on top of that big price jump? , no thank you unless with 7 years 150k miles warranty , if jeep can’t trust their product , i can’t.

Those economy numbers seem...optimistic. Squared. Like a seventies Caddy which had so many gee-whiz gadgets that failed prematurely, these layers upon layers of wizardry and gizmos will most like result in a depreciation dropping as fast as a Range Rover's. I'd like to like it but Americans just don't do complicated all that well. See the Space shuttle.

The new GC is significantly more expensive. The Trailhawk starts at $51,670. My '18 Trailhawk started at $43,295: $8500 less...! This is a big jump. New, more refined platform, but practically, you only get a bit more ground clearance and the adjustable sway bars. In ’18 Jeep didn’t charge for paint (now $400). Destination charge is now an outrageous $1800! ($1100 on the '18), a profit center for Jeep. Also, it's worth noting that if you want a (sluggish) V8, it's not available on the Limited anymore, meaning you'll have pay a lot more for a higher trim level to get it.
This is a lot of scratch for what cannot be described as Toyota levels of quality. No Thanks.

Inflation and improved features and technology. Would like to see the 18 and 22 side by side comparison.

@@2012Edger Changes/updates to every new car generation are significant, but this hasn't traditionally resulted in price increases this high. Jeep, like many makers, is trying to move upscale. Nothing but that justifies this kind of increase. Don't be naïve. They're gouging, and for a vehicle that cannot be described as Toyota levels of quality.

The American Range Rover? In terms of reliability, probably yes.
