      Council housing is is similar to social housing in the US .basically its for people that can't afford a mortgage or to rent from a private landlord but can afford to pay £ 300 to £ 500 a month for a three bed one bathroom house.

    • @tarantulagirl666
      @tarantulagirl666 25 дней назад +7

      @@kirstygunn9149well it's not necessarily for people who can't afford a mortgage, anyone can apply for council or HA housing. I was a hospice nurse earning £40k and lived in a council house, I only moved out and bought a property because i needed a 3 bed and would have had to have waited years for a swap into a 3 bed council property.

    • @andybaker2456
      @andybaker2456 25 дней назад +1

      @@tarantulagirl666 That's true. A friend of mine lives in a council flat in Lewisham, South London. At one time she was my boss, and I know for a fact that at that time she was earning £70k! She could easily have bought somewhere, but the flat was perfect for her, so she chose to stay. She gets brilliant views over London from her flat on the 13th floor, too.
      Some might argue that she should have given it up so that someone who really needed it could move in, but she didn't. But her circumstances changed, and she's now pretty much earning minimum wage, so kind of needs the flat herself now!

She is known as the creator and star of the top-rated radio comedy series The Baby Snooks Show.[2]
    Her life story was loosely adapted into the stage musical Funny Girl. Brice was famously portrayed by Barbra Streisand in both the original Broadway production of the musical and its 1968 film adaptation.
    Fanny is a feminine given name. Its origins include diminutives of the French name Frances.
    Sweet Fanny Adams:
    In English (originally Royal Navy) slang originating from the murder of eight-year-old Fanny Adams in 1867 and means "nothing at all" as well as a similar euphemism "F.A." = "fuck all".

    I think the clip where you couldn't work out what was going on (I couldn't either!) was supposed to be funny because the copper was telling them not to move and to stay in the car, but in the next breath he tells them to get out of the car! I could be wrong, but who knows?! 🤷‍♂️😄

    I am guessing that a Council Mum is a mother that rents social housing from the local council. They are often single parents that are not employed. Of course, some mothers end up in that situation through no fault of their own, this caricature is one of those that chooses it as a lifestyle.

    If you want funny, A comedian called Julian Clary is good to watch. He calls himself Britains favourite homosexual, he is a bit of a national treasure and much loved by many. He has done many things and also writes childrens books loved by my 10 year old granddaughter. They are about a family called the Bolds. He brought out a video of his concert tour when he was 50 called `Lord of The Minge'. I dont know if you can see this on you tube but its worth trying. it`s hilarious.

    Council housing is housing owned by the local authority, with low rents. Its impossiibly hard to get into these days, as there are so few that become available. Some estates are historically "rough" (noisy, anti social behaviour etc) but many, many places - my own estate included - are lovely communities to live in. Just working class people doing the best we can with the hand life punched us with.

    Youre right, council is for low income housing. I live on a council estate (area/street run by the local council). Each town has a local council which is funded by the government.
    It is a lot cheaper then private rented (landlords) and can come come with longer tenancies.
    Either a short term 6 month lease (extendible) similar to private rented or long term lease like I do.
    Lived here 26 year now since I was 18 yr old.
    You might here a lot of bad stuff about council estates but I can honestly say I would never leave this home for another, too many good people around me.

  • @lottieew135

    Council houses are owned by the government and are used to house low/no income people. Mum got one in an emergency (her ex-stepdad destroyed the lock in the front door by jamming a thin necklace into it). She took me, my sister, our dog, and what she could carry (essentially) to that house.
