This was the first song I heard from the first date with my "boyfriend" He actually sang it to me and we have been together for 33 years now, and every anniversary he sings this song to me- Thank you Johnny Rivers - This song is the best!!!!!
Who cares about the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? They should pay Johnny $2 million dollars just Kto have the honor of his membership. After all, they're just a racket. Johnny is cool!
In '77 my girlfriend and I loved it when this song was played at our school dances. I was a horrible dancer but *anybody* can slow dance. I have the J.R's greatest hits CD and the intro of this song has cricket noises (so I'm guessing the radio version did too--can't remember). With or without crickets, this is a great song.
If heaven is what I am hoping for, then I will be taken back to the carefree days of my youth and music like this. The memories are so thick I have to brush them away from my face. Thanks for the post
Takes me back to Friday & Saturday nights at the local roller rink in the 70's. Fallng in love for the first time during a "couples only" skate with this song playing. The love affair ended by the end of the night (hey, we were only ten!) but was awesome while it lasted!!
He has to be the greatest live performer I have come across. He sounds amazing. His live albums often sound just as good or better than his studio performances.
One of my favorite all time songs. Wife and I danced to this years ago. Beautiful song. I'd recommend it to others to dance to. With the lights off. Very nice.
This is a wonderful performance from a generation of great performers. I don't think many people realize how many songs this man performed. I have shared this video with several young people online and everyone loves this song.
Saw Johnny when I was 14 in 1972 at The Hook and Ladder Club in Toronto. I was shocked when I saw him because he was so short... but the guy was awesome. At that time, he was my favourite singer. I had my older brother's albums, from Live at The Whiskey A Go Go Right through to his more contemporary stuff. Man, he was good. Ever since that time, I have kept buying his albums and own every one. Finally, my wife and I took 3 of my brothers and their wives to see Johnny about 5 years ago
Tunes like this don't exist anymore, Just a good all around song to dance and Make Love too, Today's music just doesn't have the sound or soul like it did in the 80's and 70's, With that being said relive in the moment were you were and what you where doing when great songs like this come on....
This one brings back a great memory of moving into my first apartment, and this song came on the radio, and my boyfriend and I put down the boxes we had, and started to slow dance to this. Then it was back to work after it was over.
And we just flow together when the lights are low Shadows dancin' all across the wall Music's playin' so soft and slow Rest of the world so far away and small When we're Slow dancin', swayin' to the music
heard this song on the radio. i'm into different music, but i got hooked the 1st time i heard this 1 song! i love it. there is just something about this song that makes me happy and feel at peace :D wish i can see him live
when i was just a kid . i would go in the garage , and listen to the platters, and johnny rivers , out of boxes my parents had , and a turn table , it was the only music i had in the 70s LOL,
Was one of "Our" very favorite songs for so many years, lost my high school sweetheart two years ago. Shared it to Facebook while listening to it tonight, had to sit back to keep the keyboard dry.
Got to see Johnny Rivers perform in concert last year and if possible he has gotten better! This song written by Jack Tempchin is such a classic. Jack also wrote several Eagle songs.
ill always remember this song, where I was, how i felt; emotions, everything that night. WOW. a beautiful moment in my life...And the Friggin Midnight Special? OMG throwback thurs. Classic!
Sweet as can be and I still see her & me listing to Johnny River sing this and love was rule, two crazy teenagers. Thank You, Johnny ... do come true. Favorite ... Johnny Rivers song in my life.
I love this song my husband song this to me when we frist time we made love he not here to sang it no more when I hear he with me all the time rip pat see u soon
Wow. Johnny and Midnight Special. Just listening to it and I'm no longer a 53 year old with 6 kids...I'm 19 with two kids. (kidding. always wanted a way to push that joke into a conversation.) Look at that perm, the bell bottoms (or are they baggies? hmmm.) I got to meet Johnny at a local "taste of' event about ten years back. The Killer was playing there that night too. Johnny introduced us and later we all went out and burned up a number. We all commented about how much weed impr
I knew that was him! Man, Herb is one of those guys who could write a book about all the people he's played with. Great musician who probably deserved a larger career than he got, but he's made the most of it.

I remember dancing to this with my late husband. I will never forget Tom. Always there in my heart!

Wow - real musicians playing real music live!
How refreshing.
I hope that is what my daughters think of me long after I am gone. That is what I tell them as I make them listen to all this great old time music.

Back when a artist performed live and it sounded like the album version. A far cry from today.
BerlinFan82 totally agree Some 30-40 years later and when it comes up on my iTunes I still get chills. Love it, man!
yea, it's called talent
Indeed!

Beautiful love song. Haunting. Always loved Johnny Rivers. This song brings back so many memories.
Wow, amazing. He is singing this live, not lip synched. Not too many people can pull that off and sound this good.
I'm amazed at how many songs Johnny Rivers composed and performed!
These great songs will forever stand the test of time throughout the eons!
And we just flow together when the lights are low
Shadows dancin' all across the wall
Music's playin' so soft and slow
Rest of the world so far away and small
When we're
Slow dancin', swayin' to the music
This is the ultimate slow dance song. Love it!!

What a career this guy had. He was big for about a fifteen year period. Not too many acts can claim that in music.
