    Expensive, but may be worth it.
    Another stellar ST demo!

      Great pedal! For me it's a fantastic lead pedal. Perfect for jazz fusion type stuff (Steely Dan), or any time you want to jump out of the mix. Even though it has a lot of gain, it still sounds and feels organic and natural. The other day I A/B'd with my old ProCo Rat and I can definitely hear and feel the resemblance. But the Winford is much more refined. It's a tad loose in the low end at higher gain levels, so higher gain tight palm muted rhythm riffs aren't its forte. But the payoff is the amount of hair you get on each note of your solo. So sweet for solos! In my mind I sort of think of it as being in between my Rat and my J Rockett The Dude.

    Shawn, your demos sound so good! True inspiration!
    I was wondering if you maybe could make a demo of your pedalboard and how you use all the different gain pedals? Would be interesting to see how you use your effects!

    Another great demo Shawn !!! You know, between You , Pete and Brett , you give us such good info on these pedal demo's that it really helps to clarify what can buy to get our own tones and sounds together on our rigs ... Thank you !!!!

    Killer demos man! Would love to hear some more rhythm parts as well though, just to hear how the gain and EQ responds to full chords. Keep up the good work!!

    Sometimes I look up your demos just to look at that PRS beautiful color and I love the clean no inlays neck. Really though your demos are great the sound is always spot on and demos are pointless unless the sound is good. You are in my top three of guys to check out when I want to hear what a pedal sounds like and get your reactions to it.

    Another great vid. Thanks!
    I'm a big fan of the XTS stuff. Got their Preamp on my big board and a Multi-Drive followed by an XTS modded GE-7 (really sweet eq). Both boards sound great.
    I'm intrigued by this Winford Drive. Don't know where I'd put it on either board, though...as I'm really happy with the setups I've got. But this pedal sounds great.

    Hi Shawn! I love the tone of my Winford Drive but do you ever notice there is a split second sound drop out when you turn the pedal on or off? It's really only an issue if you're stacking during a song. But it's annoying. Wondering if perhaps my switch might have a glitch, or if they all do that. I've never experienced this with any of my other pedals (Suhr, JHS, JRockett, Radial, Barber, etc.). You may not even notice this because your pedal is always on in your "big rig" where you have that switching system. Just thought I'd see if you ever noticed that, or like I said, perhaps I just got a lemon. Thanks, Dan

    • @ShawnTubbs
      @ShawnTubbs  4 года назад +1

      Most of the pedals you mentioned are hard mech switched. The Winford is relay bypassed so there would be a very slight blip. Thanks for the question and for watching!!

    • @stratodan27
      @stratodan27 4 года назад

      @@ShawnTubbs Wow thanks for the quick response! Ya know that thought crossed my mind. I don't have any other drive pedals with the "soft switch" that the Winford has. I have some other pedals with that type of switch (Wampler Ego compressor, TC Electronic Flashback delay), but since they're not dirt boxes, and don't immediately change the tone when engaged, I don't notice the slight delay when I turn them on or off. I'm going to reach out to XTS to see if there is a standard mechanical switch that they'd recommend for the Winford if I were to replace the switch. It's really not a big deal, but for some reason it bothers me. Must be an OCD guitar player thing!

    • @stratodan27

      FYI - so I reached out to XTS on my issue with the switch and they modified my pedal for me. Barry at XTS was awesome! Here is his initial response to my question about the switch. "Yes, there is a 20ms ducking when ever the footswitch is depressed.
      This negates the transient switching noise of the true bypass relay." Barry mod'd the pedal for me and now there is no delay at all when I kick on the pedal, which still has the soft switch. No noise, no pop, just cleanly turns the pedal on/off when I hit the switch. Perfect! I'm very impressed with the pedal and the company.

      @@stratodan27 So glad you got that all sorted out! Barry and all of the gang at XTS are top-shelf.

    Nicely done! Thank you. I'm looking for a pedal to leave on all of the time to give my tone little dirt. Just enough for character. Would you recommend this pedal for that application Shawn? Again, thanks for your time.

    Your guitar licks are so tasteful. Do you have advice on how to approach the guitar the way you do? Learning tools? Scale recommendations?

    • @ShawnTubbs
      @ShawnTubbs  9 лет назад

      Paul Kreuzer Thanks Paul. Really I just listened to tons of different players and just pick up the tonalities. I'm not a scale driven player at all. For the most part I haven't got a clue what I'm doing.;)

    I have and love the winford but want to try something different to fill the same needs on my small board. What would you recommend?

    • @ShawnTubbs
      @ShawnTubbs  7 лет назад +2

      The Winford is pretty unique so it will be hard to duplicate but if you want something different for solo sounds, maybe the GTO by Rockett Pedals?

    Hey Shawn do you find the winford to be noisy? I'm looking to get one but I've heard it's noisy. However in your video it seems quiet. Killer playing by the way.

    • @ShawnTubbs
      @ShawnTubbs  7 лет назад +1

      I haven't had a noise issue with mine. If I totally dime the gain or something theres a bit of noise floor but not at all out of the ordinary. Thanks for the question.

      The Winford will give you more control over the mids. Both pedals are dynamic sounding overdrives.
