Having been blessed to have recorded thru (2) genuine Dumbles once on a session. This Dude pedal, for a PEDAL Nails much of the 80's Dumble circuit sound. VERY CONVINCING.!!! Great demo Shawn.!!!! Peace.....
Here's the thing with this pedal. You know how most OD's have ONE sweet setting? This pedal has every setting that is sweet no matter how you dial it up. AMAZING!
Thanks to you and Chris for doing great demos of this pedal. I own an original KLON and a few other so called DUMBLE PEDALS!! My Les Paul into a Fender Amp with this pedal finally sounds the way I hear it in my head. Great pedal. Diggin' it!
I paused Pixels to watch this totally worth it. Haha! This thing sounds great and clean with good voicing options, especially for a low gain pedal. Probably your best song yet, man, with great Robben Ford-esque snap!
+MrLespaul2000 I did and apparently he refused. IF you happen to be at the NAMM show in LA that guitar is in the Rockett Pedals booth! He'll let you play it!
As always, you give the most comprehensive demo's. I really like the way you showcased various musical styles where this pedal can work. Dumble-esque flavored pedals do get pigeon holed and this pedal indeed can go more directions tonally. Lastly, everytime I watch you play, it makes me want to practice! If only I could add 10% of your skills ...I would be happy!!
Loved the bite it does everytime you pick the notes on a humbucker guitar. Seems to be that pedal that you can leave turned on all day long, and it will bright and hair up your signal chain, like EP booster, for example.
Very well done. I recently purchased The Dude and it is a great versatile pedal. I play Strats and an LP Traditional through a Fender Blues Jr III, or a Peavey Delta Blues 115 or a Peavey JSX 412 half stack. This pedal lets me play much cleaner while still getting the sustain and punch I'm looking for.
Man Shawn, great video! Thanks for the extensive review. I've been looking for "The Tone" for playing with my strat. I think the Dude is the one. I've subscribed btw!
Um, dude. I need lessons on your scale choices because your improvisation is absolutely out of this world! I'm going to be watching your videos regardless of the product, just so I can try and steal some licks! Absolutely phenomenal man.
Step upwards it's 2017, Shawn the Gibson and PRS. I wish that they made as many left handed guitars as they did right handed. When you describe the pedals it helps place this info into perspective. The Dude pedal if this is a Dumble esk sound then Dumble Amps are truly the tone I have been looking for but we seem to be talking tens of thousands of dollars if you can get your hands on one. I love that PRS McCarty tight bottom end nice mids and light top end. And that Shur Amp and Divided by 13 Amp it reminds me of the late 70's amps. Big Ballsy and very tight AC/DC it has this tone not over the top but gain structure that is so sweet. Thanks for the demo and keep them coming.
Oh man nice slide sound! Does the Lindley thing justice. That may have swayed me to buy this pedal. I hate picking just one "Dumble" pedal but they're kind of expensive. This one looks appealing because it apparently has the most gain on tap.
+Shawn Tubbs I wish I had one locally to try out. Seems like an excellent pedal and would pair nicely with my Archer. Would you say this pedal compresses the attack transient a bit? Kind of hard to tell without playing one. I like how my Archer has a fast response. Something like a King of Tone has a similar thing in the compression vs like a Blues Driver or a Tube Screamer, which feels like it kind of compress that initial attack of the note to me.
I'm playing a PRS McCarty with 57/08 through a Fender Blues Jr or Hotrod DeVille. What settings help me have a good controlled distortion without too mud or to much harshness?
Shawn- don't know if you;re still responding to such an ancient demo but I'm giving it a shot. Just listened to your Archer IKON demo. I'm seriously torn between getting The Dude or the IKON. LP & Strat thru a DSL 40. No hard rock or Metal. Classic rock, I guess. Appreciate your feedback. Thank you.
+thearoom Hey there, thanks for the kind words. I have yet to do a pedal board demo but I will say that the Silver Archer, The Dude and XTS Winford are main stays on my boards.
+Shawn Tubbs I like the dude and i have a morning glory. I can never decide what to stack in to what so, i go back and forth, sometime the Glory isn't enough boost and gets lost with a full band but great with a 3 piece.., my other option is the oddfellow bishop. is that a good in-between pedal from the Glory and the dude, I like the tone of glory but want a little more umph. and the dude sounds best to me with the gain up but seam to saturated when turned up.... the bishop ?. is it worth the investment?? Is it very different from the two i have? Your view is greatly appreciated.
+JJ JJ Hi there thanks! I actually do play without a pick a bit. Check our the XTS Winford, Visual Sound VS-XO and Visual Sound Jekyll and Hyde demo songs!
I just noticed a pair of 20/20's on Auralex pads...had to do a double take to make sure what I was listening was still sitting there! You don't look that old...LOL! Bought my 20/20's 23 years ago!
How different is it to the the Blue Note and would they work well together if I use the Blue Note as a clean boost and the Dude for some gain? I'm looking for low volume bluesy type tube amp break up (from my very clean Trace Velocette).
The Blue Note has a lot less gain and sounds really open. The Dude has quite a bit more gain and has a bit more natural compression. The two pedals would pair nicely together.
@@ShawnTubbs Thank you. I'm not sure I need that much gain so I'm thinking the Lenny as a clean boost into the Blue Note. Thanks again, I love your videos.
It really just depends on what you're after. The Tumnus Deluxe is based on a Klon Circuit. It's going to be less compressed and has that classic Klon mid-bite. The Dude is based on a Dumble ODS, specifically Robben Ford's Dumble ODS. It has a slightly more compressed feel, fat mids, and a smoother overdrive tone. Both are great pedals.
Hey Shawn, great demo as always. Quick question...I use my 'archer' as an always on boost. I'm thinking about purchasing 'the dude' and use it as an overdrive. Have you tried the 'archer' with' the dude' at the same time? If so, how did you make out?
bitchen video brutha, nice TG2 pres ive got those . Im thinking of getting a nice overdrive pedal, How do you think this compares to the fulltone ocd or vodoo sparkle drive. thanks again peace
Shawn, would you prefer the Providence Stampede OD SOV-2 Overdrive over this one? Planning on buying either one, you're recomandations are highly appreciated :)
wich are the differences you feel between Duda and the GTO? you have the last one on your board...so? i'm thinking in buying one of them...any help would be wellcome! thnks
Well I've got the Dude on my bigger board hat the GTO on my smaller board and honestly they go back and forth between the two...The Dude is a little more compressed and fatter sounding but doesn't stay together as well for me when I need a higher gain sound. They're both great. The top end on the GTO is brighter then the top end on the Dude...Just depends on what you want...
thanks for the answer! i'm between blues and funk, actually using the xotic bbpreamp, but i'd like found out something with more extragain for just in cases....thnks a lot Shawn, and keep giving us news and knowlegdes about the guitar!
Nice, sounds great, nice video edits and great playing as usual! mind if I ask if you tried the pedal Into the suhr badger? I'm just wondering does the pedal work with a more British sounding amp.
I just bought one of these today, great review. I'm a LP guy mostly and have a few PRS guitars including a SC58.....but your MC58 😳 is absolutely beautiful. Is that a private stock version or standard?
+McSoappy Yeah that's not my Les Paul. It belongs to Chris Van Tassel of Rockett Pedals. It's got Lollar Low wind Imperials in it that sound pretty nice. I've had that D13 FTR 37 for a long time now. It's one of the best amps I own.
Does this pedal play nicely with Strats and Teles? Any pedal I buy has to work well with Gibson type as well as Fender type guitars. Thanks! Great demo for those Gibson type guitars, btw.
Steely Dan-esque, the playing AND the tone, but with a name like 'The Dude', should I feel a bit of uneasiness hearing a bit of the Eagles in there, too?
One man's demo, another man's worth of 6 months of lessons..., time to hit that half-speed button...
Hahaha...Thanks Gerry! I think I'm gonna start doing Skype coaching soon.
More like years for me. Yeah, he is an incredible player.
Having been blessed to have recorded thru (2) genuine Dumbles once on a session. This Dude pedal, for a PEDAL Nails much of the 80's Dumble circuit sound. VERY CONVINCING.!!! Great demo Shawn.!!!! Peace.....
You are blessed indeed to have played and recorded the real deal!!! Thanks Vic!
My two favourite players on RUclips Shawn and Pete Thorn these guys are ridiculously talented and inspiring guitarists
Thanks very much Tom!!
Here's the thing with this pedal. You know how most OD's have ONE sweet setting? This pedal has every setting that is sweet no matter how you dial it up. AMAZING!
Shawn is a recent discovery for me. I can't stop watching and listening to such an awesome player.
I'm seriously addicted to this pedal,it's taken over my board and the tube screamers have fallen by the way side
always great and honest demo's love the way you tune the pedal to any style
+prsfrank Thanks so much!
Great demo and DAYMN! you have some serious chops
Thanks to you and Chris for doing great demos of this pedal. I own an original KLON and a few other so called DUMBLE PEDALS!! My Les Paul into a Fender Amp with this pedal finally sounds the way I hear it in my head. Great pedal. Diggin' it!
Man you rip it. Thanks for all of your hard work and great demos
Simply great tone and super playing!
“Dude” ... you are sooooooo good. Great vids!
Great job ,wicked tone and fantastic playing :)
Great, Great Demo! You really know what guitarists want to hear. Thanks!
I paused Pixels to watch this totally worth it. Haha! This thing sounds great and clean with good voicing options, especially for a low gain pedal. Probably your best song yet, man, with great Robben Ford-esque snap!
+tonepoet Thanks so much! RF is the man!
Very nice guitar, great playing and great tone. I need this pedal.
I just discovered your review, but I like how you explain the controls. It sounds like you actually know a little bit of what you're talking about!
;) thanks very much!
Jesus that Les Paul sounds awesome! nice playing as always Mr. Tubbs
+MrLespaul2000 Thanks man! That Les Paul is actually owned by a friend of mine. It's a killer R9.
I think you should make him an offer he can't refuse Shawn
Offer
+MrLespaul2000 I did and apparently he refused. IF you happen to be at the NAMM show in LA that guitar is in the Rockett Pedals booth! He'll let you play it!
+Shawn Tubbs I'd love to go there sadly I'm a little bit too far away ....UK
Stellar chart at the start. Fantastic playing.
You are the man Shawn, these demos are astounding..
Holy Duck awesome playing & tone
As always, you give the most comprehensive demo's. I really like the way you showcased various musical styles where this pedal can work. Thanks Gary I really appreciate it!
You nailed it again!
That PRS might just be the most beautiful guitar I think I've ever seen.
That lick at 1:38 gets me every time. I need to transcribe that one.
+After Osmosis - sounds like a Drew Zingg lick, really cool.
+After Osmosis Yes ,please do.
I like the half bend on the rest
Melodic minor.
Loved the bite it does everytime you pick the notes on a humbucker guitar. Seems to be that pedal that you can leave turned on all day long, and it will bright and hair up your signal chain, like EP booster, for example.
pretty sure i'm going to buy this one. From what I've heard it sound like one of the best overdrive pedals. especially at low gain.
Yeah I think it's a keeper! Glad you dig it!
Killer playing and tone, Shawn. Color me a fan sir. Gotta get me a Dude. What a second....
Man !
You sir is such a badass!
Great demo and pedal! :)
+Crippe Johansson Thanks very much!
Wish I still had my Duesy...
Oh, and some really cool video edits there Shawn!
+Realfi Well if it makes you feel any better...That doozy isn't mine...I miss mine too.
+Shawn Tubbs :-(
Man I adore the intro groove for this video man!!! I WISH I could play like that :)
That prs is amazingly nice
Great job on that Shawn. Love your vids man. SOLD!
I really enjoyed your playing! Very inspiring.

Such nice playing on this demo... man.
Awesome playing and tone Shawn, just found you out yestersay!
Amazing playing skills😍😍😍😍😍

Truly the best FEELING pedal I own!

Really digging your demos and playing man! Tasty like a coke and BBQ wings!!!
+Camilo Velandia Thanks very much Camilo! I appreciate it!
Dude with the les paul you EXACTLY sounded like Robben Ford. Apart from time it was also the style ofc, but I tell you SPOT ON
Glad I found your channel, excellent review!
Thanks so much!
excellent demo
+M jones Thanks so much!
Try the Archer into the Dude yet? Great demo and fabulous playing as always. Was waiting for this one

If I could only choose one between the IKON and the DUDE, I'd go with the IKON.
@@ShawnTubbs Much obliged Shawn. Thank you.
"It's feeling really Chewy"... agreed.
Hey Shawn! Don't mean to be a huge nerd here but what is that exotic scale you play at the beginning? Great vids by the way
Hey Brandon thanks very much man. That tonality is based on a G7b5add13 chord. That's all I know man....;)
Shawn Tubbs sick man thanks!
Very tasteful soloing. Is the backing track something you put together or is it a downloadable jam track?
Thanks man! The back track is mine:)
Thanks man! The backing track is mine.
Just wondering how would it siund if anTS9 pushes it. Awesome playing man!
Thanks very much man. I would think a TS9 dialed with lower gain would work well in front.
Hi Shawn, Do you have a lesson site/channel ? ta
Sean, off topic and this video is dated, but is that an eleven rack you have in Your desk rack behind you? How do you use that?
Hi Shawn, I just got one and I’m wondering how would you use it, in front of a Pettyjohn Chime or after it and why. Thanks buddy, loving your videos!
Man, if that Ratio could be controlled with an expression pedal it would be killer!
Very robben fordesque playing - lovely
+Alex Fixsen Thanks Alex!
damn. solid playing again!
Great stuff. I have the pedal. Wondering what you actually use, how you pedal board is set up. Any videos on that???

Great demo...ordered the Dude today!
Awesome!!! Thanks!
Nice playing man and great tone.
Do you ever play without a pick?
+JJ JJ Hi there thanks! I actually do play without a pick a bit. Check our the XTS Winford, Visual Sound VS-XO and Visual Sound Jekyll and Hyde demo songs!
Hi the switch have a problem of pop when you turn on/off?
Send an email to Rockett Pedals and I'm sure they'll help you get that sorted.

Shawn, the riff you are playing over at the beginning is Chevrolet by Robben isnt it?
:) No but I guess it sounds similar... There's a bit of "Talk To Your Daughter" in there as well. I was definitely going for the RF thing on this one.
Shawn Tubbs haha, was listening to the blue line record and thought I heard the riff earlier in the week when I was watching this.
That's such a great record.

Hello Shawn.. another awesome video ..hey I have a question. What kind of drum software do you use for your tracks? Sounds great!
Thanks man. I use Easy Drummer by Toontracks.
Thanks for sharing Shawn :-)
I like that technique.. Robin who? i need to do some research on him
Robben Ford is a killer player!
Halo sir,....did you record with mic/direct in this video???
Great video...
Thanks very much! I used a Royer R121 and Shure SM57 into a Chandler Limited TG2 Mic Pre.
Shawn, would you prefer the Providence Stampede OD SOV-2 Overdrive over this one? Planning on buying either one, you're recomandations are highly appreciated :)
I've never played the Providence Stampede or really any Providence products so I can't give an honest answer on that one. Sorry man.

Nice, sounds great, nice video edits and great playing as usual!
mind if I ask if you tried the pedal
Into the suhr badger? I'm just wondering does the pedal work with a more British sounding amp.
+Tadhg McDonnell-leahy I haven't cranked it though my Badger yet. I'm sure it will sound great.
I just bought one of these today, great review. I'm a LP guy mostly and have a few PRS guitars including a SC58.....but your MC58 😳 is absolutely beautiful. Is that a private stock version or standard?
how do i set this pedal to achieve steel string singer tones
It's not made for that type of Dumble sound, I afraid :-)
JRAD make the Lenny which is a SSS type pedal.
Is the %13 cab open or closed back? Great sounding demo as usual!
+Telepick2 The D13 cab seen in the vid is an open back but I'm using a Suhr 1x12 closed with a V30 for the demo. Thanks!
So good! You've been missed!
What a great lesson. Thanks man.
+Stan Lindert Nice when you can get something out of a demo.
That Les Paul tone with the gain up is amazing man! What is the model of the /13 you're playing?
+McSoappy Yeah that's not my Les Paul. It belongs to Chris Van Tassel of Rockett Pedals. It's got Lollar Low wind Imperials in it that sound pretty nice. I've had that D13 FTR 37 for a long time now. It's one of the best amps I own.
A Doozy through a Dude - its what guitars are supposed to do, "Chewy" is a great description
Does this pedal play nicely with Strats and Teles? Any pedal I buy has to work well with Gibson type as well as Fender type guitars. Thanks! Great demo for those Gibson type guitars, btw.
+Brad Dietz Yeah it will work fine with single coil pickups ranging from Strat to P90s.
good demo and explanation
Thanks very much!
What amp are you playing The Dude pedal through? What amps does this pedal work best with in your opinion?
That amp is a D13 FTR 37. It's a 6V6 Fender style amp. I've hear the Dude pedal with Marshall and Fender style amps and it sounds great with both.
So in your opinion, this or the zendrive? Great video too
+Adam James Rogers I gotta go with the Dude for sure.
Great guitar player!!!
Steely Dan-esque, the playing AND the tone, but with a name like 'The Dude', should I feel a bit of uneasiness hearing a bit of the Eagles in there, too?
This guy would make a $50 OD pedal sound awesome! Cool pedal though
is this better or more versitile than the Pierce Overdrive ?
It's really quite a bit different than the TPOD. I will say that overall the TP is really hard to beat in the versatility category.
Oh look at the dusenberg man how iv listed after those guitars for yrs
