    Shawn, I would love to hear your thoughts on the Tumnus Deluxe vs the Rockaway Archer. Both seem really great because of tonal flexibility.

    • @ShawnTubbs
      @ShawnTubbs  6 лет назад

      Both great pedals. The Rockaway is less compressed and a bit more aggressive sounding than the TD. The TD to me has more gain and is more compressed sounding.Just depends on what you want.

  • @nickardasis4

    Hey Shawn, stellar playing and thanks for such an informative review, your videos are amazing. Between this and the Dirty Shirley, which one would you get if you had to choose one? Which is more versatile and which one has more gain overall?

    • @ShawnTubbs
      @ShawnTubbs  6 лет назад +2

      Thanks so much!! I guess the decision between the DS and the Tumnus boils down to how you want to sound. They're both extremely versatile. So do you want a pedal that sounds like a Klon or a pedal that sounds like a Friedman Dirty Shirley? Gain wise they're both pretty close.

    @jeffbateman2339 6 лет назад +1

    Thanks so much for what you do, Shawn, I'm trying to figure out the differences between the Tumnus and Dirty Shirley? I'm leaning towards the DS... Which one would YOU say is more versatile?

    • @ShawnTubbs
      @ShawnTubbs  6 лет назад +1

      Thanks for tuning in Jeff. Both pedals are very versatile. If you want more of a Klon based OD go for the Tumnus. If you want something that will get you closer to the tone of a Friedman DS amp, go that route.

  • @rickmilam413
    @rickmilam413 6 лет назад

    I use a standard Tumnus now. I'm not sure that I need the additional flexibility; I tend to leave it set up one way and it's kind of a go to sound into a clean amp. Ignoring features, any thoughts on how they compare sonically? Thanks

    • @ShawnTubbs
      @ShawnTubbs  6 лет назад

      Hey Rick, thanks for the question. I've never played the standard Tumnus so I can't say for sure how the two compare. In my opinion, it sounds like you're good to go with the standard Tumnus. If it ain't broke don't fix it!!;)

  • @GabrielObregonMusic
    @GabrielObregonMusic 6 лет назад +1

    Hi shawn! Awesome stuff!
    Just wondering a couple of things
    1. What are your thoughts on using the Tumnus Deluxe vs The Archer
    2. On what context would you personally employ the Tumnus Deluxe? i.e soloing, comping, riffs etc? Just curious!

    • @ShawnTubbs
      @ShawnTubbs  6 лет назад

      Thanks Gabriel and thanks for the questions. I think the Archer is about as close as you're going to get to a Klon in my opinion but the Tumnus is good too. Depends on what you want. If you want more of a true Klon clone the Archer is hard to beat. If you want a pedal that sounds really close to a Klon but with more EQ possibilities, the Tumnus is really the way to go. As far as context goes I tend to use Klon style pedals more for rhythm or riff stuff but that being said there are no rules on the subject. I've used the Archer for solos quite a bit and I zero problems dialing in the Tumnus for solo tones.

    Hey! Do you have to higher the bass on your amp in order to get a well balanced sound with that Wampler ? I bought the Wampler Hot Wired and found that it lacks bass, so it is basically unusable because i have to higher the bass on my amp every time...great videos and playing btw!

    • @ShawnTubbs
      @ShawnTubbs  5 лет назад

      The Hot Wired is based on a TS-9 circuit if I'm not mistaken which typically will present with less low end. I didn't notice an issue with low end using the Tumnus. Thanks for watching!

    Great vid Shawn. How does this pedal compare with the Friedman Dirty Shirley. I love the DS but I'm looking for a pedal to give me a different lower gain tonal option on my board. Keep up the good work.

    • @ShawnTubbs
      @ShawnTubbs  6 лет назад +1

      Thanks so much. The Tumnus is certainly more a Klon based pedal whereas the Friedman Dirty Shirley is based on the Friedman Dirty Shirley amp. The Tumnus will have more mid bark and focus so I would be a good pedal to have in addition to the DS for sure.

  • @musicmann1967
    @musicmann1967 6 лет назад +6

    The mid boost / cut is a huge selling with this kind of pedal. These Klon types generally add mids when gain is added, but that doesn't always sound great, depending on the guitar and amp being used. Nice to have control in that area.

    • @mattgilbert7347
      @mattgilbert7347 6 лет назад

      Larry Lachmann Couldn't you use a separate EQ to handle that issue?

    • @TimMer1981
      @TimMer1981 5 лет назад

      @@mattgilbert7347 Ofcourse, but it will always be a different result than changing the mids inside the pedal itself. If you change it before, the pedal gets a different input, if you change it after, you alter the result sound of the pedal. Now it gets taken up into the internal mix of the pedal.

    Hi great demo. What do you think about Walrus Warhorn against Tumnus or Archer? Any experience?

    • @ShawnTubbs
      @ShawnTubbs  5 лет назад +1

      Thanks so much! I don't have any experience with the Walrus. I liked the Silver Archer enough to sell my original Silver Klon. The Tumnus Deluxe is great but it's more of a variation based on the Klon circuit. If you really want a Klon Centaur sound go the Archer route but if you want more of a Klon character with more tweakability, go with the Tumnus Deluxe.

    Still rocking an 11 rack? Do you still record with that?

      No, I stopped using it a while ago. I gave it to a friend of mine that could really use it. Now that I've got my amp switcher and my OX, I don't really have a need for it.

    This pedal has a very audible pop when you click it on and off. I emailed them. They said this is normal. I returned it. Beware before you buy it.

    This is meant to sound like a Dumble?? A Zen drive owns it,

      No, it's not meant to sound like a Dumble. It's modeled after a Klon Centaur.
