Wampler Tumnus Deluxe Overdrive | Reverb Tone Report Demo

- The Wampler Tumnus Deluxe has the same great sound as the original, with added functionality. The active low and mid controls, added hot mode for extra gain, and buffer switch make the Tumnus Deluxe a truly versatile overdrive.

I want to see a That Pedal Show feat. Andy
we must go deeper!
I'd put a few bucks into a kickstarter or something to fly him out there and make this happen. That would be so much fun.
Or him on Andertons, imagine him and Danish Pete trading licks
Happened a few months ago!
First vid with the new setups, great natural guitar Sound , HD is awesome.Wampler has a winner in this gold clad stomp box too.onward and upward !!!
a great new look.... love it Andy... keep on keepin on!
I suspect these pedals form a very interesting combination with the guitars I build, will buy one to test it myself. Thanks for your very inspiring demo!
Great playing, and the intro was just dripping with tone! I had seen a tweet from Wampler about this pedal and I knew it was finally time to try one of these “K” type pedals! I never liked overdrive/distortion pedals that don’t have a treble, mid and bass tone stack, except on fuzzes! So I finally took the plunge and am happy I did! I’m still figuring out how to stack the pedal...Don’t really like it in front of fuzzes, the buffer really doesn’t do well with fuzz, but it’s nice to have after the fuzz with the buffer on...And I’ve actually been loving it as a stand-alone classic rock flavored overdrive/distortion! My Tele And Strat are in the Shop getting new pickups, so can’t comment on that yet, but I’m really looking forward to some low gain boost with some top end shimmer with the single Coils! I think it’s going to sound great!!
Great playing as always, so happy to be able to listen to your pedal demos! They are always very in depth and really give me ideas as to different ways to use the pedals, doing things with them I didn’t know could be done!
Thank you!
1 second into the video and im already sold, i can tell thats a stones tune
Scrolled past other Tumnus Deluxe reviews specifically to find Andy's review. Yup.
That progression at 4:20 is magical
It’s an even classier black backdrop.
Great Demo
Andy never loses a pick... because it’s his own fingers.
Thanks Andy!!!👍🏽
Hi Andy. I'm currently using Friedman's Dirty Shirley and BE-OD as my main tones but I'm looking for a low gain option. I'm considering the Danelectro Pride of Texas or the Tumnus Deluxe. What's your thoughts on the path I should take. Thanks.
Why only an almost completely "clean boost" setting for the Strat? Would love to hear more settings.
I wish where I can get these beautiful backing tracks on those videos? Sounds killer!
Funny thing is, on my Tumnus Deluxe the flat mid response is around 8 o'clock. I wonder if that's true for all of 'em.
After listening to this demo of the Tumnus Dlx, go find the original PGS Tumnus vid published Nov 2016. Back to back... it's all Andy, but it seems like night and day as far as sound quality. The old PGS vid sure sounds more dynamic, full, and open to me.
I think folks should give Reverb & Andy a break, for a few reasons. One, Andy just started these videos for Reverb & they are still working out the kinks. He said in his first pedal demo that he was still using his personal space until they could “extricate” him to a new space. Also, I believe Andy might be doing the editing himself. He’s said in interviews before that he went to film school & used to do all the video editing for PGS.
Nathan Sink right on brother! Very well said. It takes a lot to jump into a new company,it takes hours and days to setup a new studio and find the sweet spot. Andy is a pro , lets step back and watch the master tune up his new space. " Serenity now serenity now people. Lets show some Andy love here !!
Sounds stellar! It sounds like it has an ultra-low noise-floor, is that correct? If you feed a quiet signal into the pedal, does it stay quiet (no hiss or high background noise), even with the gain maxed in "Hot" mode?
I was just wondering I received my Wampler tumnus pedal today was really looking forward to it but can you tell me this when I switch it by the way I got the deluxe so when I switch it to hot is it supposed to make a popping noise and is the the hot side of the switch is it real subtle thanks I went through Reverb to get this I do a lot of business with you also thank you bud preciate it enjoy your videos enjoy your playing
Hey Andy, what year is your LP Standard and what pickups do you have in it?
That Hot Mode is so hot.
I think I'll still have to go with RYRA's The Klone for all my centaur needs, but this is a cool pedal all the same, and of course well-presented.
do i suck at guitar if i can't bend the g string like you do during the bridge of JJF
All the wampler pedals I’ve gotten were about 92% there but missed a little something mayb this one is different?
Is the deluxe reverb Andy always used modded in any way?
whats the song he plays with the reverand?
I keep hearing some clipping of the mic perhaps? Either way the sound isn't what I expected from prev. tone report and other tumnus videos.
whats the song at 3:35?
whats the name of the songs he play?
Sounds amazing! I might have missed it somehow, but what amp is Andy using? settings etc.? I'm always curious about this stuff because it gives you an idea of what to expect. I know everything's relative and subjective, but having a jumping off point to judge from always helps.
most likely a Fender DRRI
That’s why it sounds so bad
65 deluxe reissue
What amp is this running into?
Andy-San
Buddy Ollie Gain on- Gain off
I think that was supposed to be Sensei Andy.
Oss Sensei
notice me senpai
Yeah mang..
God I Love Andy's strat guitar, what is it if I may ask you guys?? Hard to see the logo there and it certainly isn't a Fender....
It's a Redtail
Adam thank You!!
Check the phase guys! Audio Recording 101
I don't know... it might just be me but I liked how the PGS Andy videos were definetely more open sounding. Something's off with the tones here.
Nicolás del Castillo you're not alone. Reverb vids tend to have excessively dry and harsh sound. I'd hate to see that become the standard with Andy's demos.
You're 100% right. I'm very worried.
the reverb curse, brittle sounding
i'm thinking it's equalized to sound the same through any speaker, so i guess we're getting the tone you would hear from an iphone speaker...
We hear you, and we definitely hear the issues with the sound quality as well. We're still working on getting Andy's new studio up and running smoothly. We appreciate the feedback, and Andy will have his normal set-up back very soon. :)
Would be good to see an A-B between this and a Keeley Oxblood
Andrew Bentley I did it with the original tumnus (not a video, just for myself), and the tumnus won easily. Sent the oxblood back. And that’s no knock on keeley stuff as I have and love many of his pedals.
Thumbs up if you want Andy to do a finger picking lesson!
what brant is that black strat ? so gilmurish and cool. anybody knows ?
wrongguy1963 www.redtailguitars.com
thank you brother
Yep I hear mic clipping too. Reverb needs to take more care PGS never had the harshness like I hear here.
Can you get the exact tones that the original Tumnus gives?
According to Brian Wampler's youtube video, yes.
NerveFunk yeah, Brian Wampler said that it's the original eq when you have the bass and mids set to twelve o'clock.
What the hell is a crossfire hurricane and why wasn't I born in one?
I don't know but it sounds bad. Consider yourself lucky.
I'm not sure which sounds better, the pedal, his playing, or his voice. haha
So is this the end of Andy's ProGuitarShop videos? What's going on?
As you may or may not know, ProGuitarShop has decided to end their retail operations. Andy and the Tone Report found their new home with us at Reverb, and we are excited to continue bringing you the same excellent content that you've come to expect from him.
Thanks for the update Reverb, I wasn't aware of any of this. The end of a long era on RUclips for PGS, but the beginning of a new one, and I'm looking forward to the future content. Best wishes.
Where is unity gain on that level pot? I just got one today and I have to crank the level to hit unity...is mine defective?
Reach out to Wampler. That doesn't sound right at all.
I love Wampler and Andy. But this pedal is really best suited for fattening up an already slightly driven amp sound, not as a stand-alone drive. There you go - take that home with you.
There are some serious issues with the editing in this video. At multiple spots, the image of Andy fades out before he's even done talking. I think the sound quality is also poor.
Daniel Neamtu you're right, it reminds me of the spotty quality in the other Reverb vids, especially the harsh sound. I wonder why.
I can also tell the PGS script writers aren't helping him out on the pedal explanation at 1:20.
hd andy
RIP PGS. :(
Sounds fizzy to me. The 3 band EQ is awesome though!
it might be because he has the gain so high. i know klons and most 'transparent' drives dont enjoy being gained up
Yeah its a Klone. Best as a boost into a cooking amp.
But Andy makes it sound pretty cool. A hair of Fuzztone there.
Tried the pedal and really liked it didn't buy it because of the loud annoying pop on and off switch
Anyone else think reverb is trying to make music video monarchy?
Chronicles of Narnia?
Yup, it's a play on the demi-human theme: Tumnus a faun, the pedal being "klon"ed a centaur.
Rick C that was very educational 👍
I really like my Soul Food into an EQ pedal.
Tumnus festival
Somebody get this lad a pick.
Pedal’s not hot
This pedal has a very audible pop when you click it on and off. I emailed them. They said this is normal. I returned it. Beware before you buy it.
the p90 is very 70's rush, ima be honest here
So you're going with the infamous brittle sound of reverb.com Andy? hopefully not.
Erick Chicas no .new setup, new gear new studio. Believe in Andy.he will find the sweet spot.
Yes, it's good that reverb even acknowledge it in the comments, there's still hope!
I noticed it too. Andy's no hack, so hopefully it'll get dialed in soon.
bros
ohhh come on this is not how a klon sound like. andy please please show some ribbon love to your amp
No... no.... the lighting is all different... You lost the PGS magic... JK. Happy to see Andy demoing again. Huge improvement to the Reverb.com demos.
Is the centaur meant to be peeing on the lamppost?
well......ya can't un see that.
This sounds like a shitty Reverb demo and not a high-quality PGS demo. Ugh, this concerns me. Damn, I miss PGS. Andy is a god so I trust he'll find a way to fix the sound issue.
andy, for once, turn the bass down....
he likey his bass sounds.
How he does all that "picking" with NO PICK is beyond me, lol... Way to sell me a Klon, hoss, lol...
Did he say Johnny Winter??? LMAO not even close
RLMUD ruclips.net/video/eAQYaVlY_SU/видео.html
Let's be honest this sounds like a pile of wank in this demo
Either this pedal sucks or the Audio Quality is pure crap!
Mark Rodriguez Agreed!
Sounds like the mic is being overdriven
Every time I hear a K style pedal, I am disappointed. Andy makes everything sound great but the K clones. The original was a real marketing hoax. I’ll keep using modified tubescreamers.
Apparently it’s through a Fender DRRI. No wonder it sounds awful. It needs to be in front of a proper amp like a Vox, Orange, or Marshall.
