The moral of the story at the end, how the dogs prepared him for fatherhood, really warmed my heart.
I am here for all the antics of the dynamic dachshund duo of Pizza and Sizzle. I would love to see a follow-up of their baby sister as a toddler.

I had 3 dogs when I started having kids. The dogs trained me well to be a parent. Plus, I had 2 great babysitters. The oldest dog, who was 4 at the time, ignored the kids until they were older and not annoying him. All of the patience I learned with one sick dog, one chewing everything in sight dog, and one small dog trying to run with the big boys prepared me well to deal with 3 boys, all of whom have successfully survived to adulthood.
That baby will have the most amazing friends!! ❤️😍

As a longtime dad of both pets and human kids, I can honestly say human kids are much more demanding and slower to learn! While we consider ourselves the most ADVANCED species, dogs and cats hit all of the developmental benchmarks much earlier - walking, effective communication, potty training, etc.
I, too, had a dachshund like yours. I picked her out from a litter, waited till she was old enough to leave her mother and then went to pick her up on that exciting day she became mine. I was 9 years old and she was my Birthday present. I named her Pretzel, and she was a wonderful addition to our family.
"You have 2 seconds to come up with a good excuse." ... "I'm cute. Enough said!" XD

I'm always heart broken when I hear about people getting rid of their dogs (and cats) when they have a baby!!! I can't believe someone could do that! Our dogs are family members and you obviously believe that as well!!! I miss my little Dachshund, Brewski, so much! Also LOVE how you talk to the dogs when they misbehave. So funny!

Recommendation: start shopping for pull-toys or possibly push-toys. A toddler can definitely take over some of the dog entertainment chores.
As the eldest of four, I'm old enough to have heard my Dad say he was glad he had dogs before he had kids. I think he learned that shouting begets barking, calling over stops working if punishment follows, calm begets attention eventually, and that kind of thing...

I n my Mrs had 5 human babies. All while I was raising, training prize winning hunting beagles. Only a mom n dad beagles in small #'s. ALL our Beagles once the baby humans could "Play",,all was good.😊

Congratulations on the birth of your child. I have a feeling as their sister grows they’ll become protective of her. Making sure she’s always doing well. I found an old picture when I was about two years old and we had a Dachshund, Luchow. I don’t remember him. Seems he was given away because housebreaking wasn’t easy. As I grew older I would visit the Dachshund down our street. I would go up to Chris and pet him and talk to him. I couldn’t find any Dachshunds so I had a Chihuahua for 16 years. I’m fascinated by Dachshunds. I guess it’s their shape.

Yes they were! I have had so many over the years and they are the boss! My last one is in charge he’s old and everyone waits on him to eat and he runs them off if the others try to sit on me. But who would live without them.

Dachshunds are really loyal to the babies especially when the kids get older I've grown up with dachshunds and I still own them now and it's 37 years. My dachshund has taken really affectionate to my daughter that we can't even touch my daughter or all the other kids she may think that we're trying to kidnap them
