So true. There was a powerful movement against the adoption of gasoline (ICE) vehicles. In the earliest days they were unreliable, very hard to start, hard to find places to refuel them, very expensive and often referred to as toys for rich kids (sound familiar?). The gasoline vehicle was a serious threat to several large and well-established industries like veterinarian services, feed, grain and hay providers, blacksmiths, leather goods industry, buggy and cart makers, etc... These industries went to war with the internal combustion engine which they often referred to as "that infernal gasoline engine". Despite the fact that they were noisy, smelly and generally filthy machines, gasoline vehicles were cleaner than employing beasts of burden. Americans, especially those living in cities or towns, have largely forgotten what it was like to have their locations visited each day by hundreds, if not thousands of horses and or oxen. They've forgotten the literal TONS of manure that had to be removed from city streets and moved to collection areas. They've forgotten the fecal matter and 10's of thousands of gallons of animal urine that collected in storm drains creating breeding grounds for infectious diseases like Cholera, Hepatitis and Dysentery among others. They've forgotten the pervasive stench associated with using beasts of burden especially the corpses of those animals that died everyday. A client of mine took me for a spin in his Plaid today, it was a mind bending experience. I’ve been in plenty of fast cars but this was something else, it was like being electrocuted (in kind of a good way) vision went blurry, frozen in place, it didn’t make sense lol. Afterwards I felt like I just got in a fight my adrenaline was pumping. Unreal experience
My first drag strip-type launch in a 2015 Model S P90D with Ludicrous Mode made me dizzy. All the blood in my skull slammed into the back of my head. Focusing on steering was a problem. The Plaid is even worse. 🤣
I wish I could post a pic here. A Plaid owner sent me a photo of one of his mechanics falling out of the right front seat. Guy owns an auto shop. Anyhow, he bought a '21 MS Plaid and took an employee for an acceleration run. When they pulled back into the shop, the poor mechanic opened the door and literally fell out onto the concrete floor, legs inside, body on the floor, on his back. He told me whenever he drives the Plaid to work, that mechanic gives him the single-digit salute. LOL
I tweeted Elon Musk and told him if you're gonna name that launch stance after a cat, you need to add a butt wiggle, which could be programmed into the air suspension. Got no reply. 😪 Bummer.
I have a Tesla Y and a Camaro 1SS. I enjoy both for different reasons. Camaro is a 6 speed manual transmission. People sleep on Teslas until they are sitting behind one. 😂
My preference is "Don't You Want Somebody To Love?" (Jefferson Airplane) and "Waterloo" by ABBA. But the cameras pick up the music, then I have copyright problems with RUclips. LOL
What's most impressive to me about this is that the race WASN'T decided in the 60ft. The Plaid's party piece is its ability to boogie out of the hole compared to other cars, but this built Hellcat on the prepped surface had that sorted as well. So this victory from the Plaid was a matter of sheer, top-end horsepower. That used to be a weakness of EVs - obviously not anymore. Outrageous.
You did notice that the Tesla had to wait for the Hellcat to go first because they are racing to see who can get the best average time, not who is the quickest off the light. Because if that was the case, The Plaid would win every time by at least 3 to 4 car lengths
That was an as kicking of biblical proportions. And that was a strip-modified hellcat, mind u! Imagine what thrashing a stock hellcat would've gotten?!
I bought my Model S Plaid in Oct. '21, a few months after they came out. So I took it to Willow Springs International Raceway for drags night on their 1,000-foot strip. At one point I was against a Hellcat Challenger. Light turned green, I released the brake and I immediately buried the guy. In the shutdown area, he indicated he wanted to talk, so we went into the pit. He came over, with helmet in hand, and asked: "What kind of Tesla IS this?" He hadn't heard about the Plaid. Plaid is just a normal but well designed for everyday driving, nothing too sporty, fancy, or loudy, yet can easily be the fastest car on earth. I'm not a fan of ev, but respect must be given when it's due.
What respect? They're a cheat code on drag strips. Combustion vs instant electromagnetic acceleration. Fire vs lighting. That isn't fun to watch and it's definitely not what we as spectators want to experience. We want engineering. Tuning. The noises petrol engines produce. All the factors that make a race an actual race. Not putting electric coils together powered by a huge battery and hitting the gas. Dude in the Tesla could have taken a nap. Where's the fun in that?
It often cannot be understood, until it is experienced. Their head is thrown back, and stays back until I let up on the accelerator (or until my wife screams SLOW DOWN!)
Sad watching people try to make expensive ICE vehicles do what they really aren't designed to do. Making a high-performance ICE vehicle "hook-up" like that will never be conducive to long life. A nine second or faster ICE vehicle has to push huge torque and Hp numbers through a drivetrain that includes a multi-speed transmission and differential. The design of which will never be as robust as that of an EV especially in a production car. To keep a nine second or faster ICE vehicle track ready every week will require a team of mechanics and an owner with deep pockets. That Tesla can drag race 15 times everyday, 365 days a year for several years and never need to open the hood. LOL, you'd be lucky to get through one weekend of drag racing with a high-performance ICE without needing to repair or replace something expensive. You'd spend more time under the hood than you would behind the wheel.
@@Tron-Jockey Okay, let's look at the Tesla then. You need 100k for a Plaid, then at least 3k for a charger in your garage. And Pete forbid something break, then you'd need to replace that part at a specialized repair shop, where with an ICE, you just roll into the mechanic. Far more expensive to repair an EV. Not to mention battery replacements and tires because they weigh a lot more. ICE vehicles have been racing and pushing their limits longer than you've been pooping on this earth, so I would say they definitely are designed to go fast.
@@dirtbagliberalsnake5729 or just a slightly built demon, idk if you could tell it any kind of super or turbo charger on a Tesla, and ik a demon has a supercharger, you can still put on different tires, lighter rims, cut out some other things that weigh a good amount
"It's all sound and fury, signifying nothing"...sad. I used to, and still occasionally do, build ICE cars. It was a big part of my growing up, but the power of EVs is undeniably superior. All that said, people still watch horse racing, so motorsports is unlikely to ever die out
They'll flick their cigarettes at you, nearly cause a head on trying to beat me at a green, try to roll coal, spit, yell and act like the smooth brains they are. These people are knuckle dragging morons.
So I pulled into a CVS one day. Two guys in a nearby car said: "Is a Tesla faster than a Hellcat?" I said, "With over a thousand HP, sure." WHAT? they said. "You guys wanna go for a ride around the block?" I took care of my business in CVS and told them to get in. And we went around the block in my 2021 Model S Plaid. I live in the SoCali desert, and shortly we were in the semi-boondocks, moving at 35 mph. Then I floored it, and they shot backwards. They were shouting at me to slow down. In 2 or 3 seconds I was at 85 mph. I looked over at them and said: "Yeah. Faster than a Hellcat."
The experience is certainly different, and I can agree that if your first love is always special. Head snapping launch and flat acceleration curves ease the transition, and fuel savings can buy a case of beer every day. :) *this message is not meant to encourage excessive drinking. the reader is responsible for their own decisions hehehehehehehe*
That wasn't the plaid, it was just a model S, the plaid has a wing in the back and a thicker hood, the plaid is much much faster with an option of insane acceleration and lowering cheetah stance
Ehhh, sorry, that is wrong. It is the Plaid. The other option is the Long Range, and it won't do a quarter mile in the 9s. No big wing comes stock, the hoods are the same, and I'm sure that blue Tesla has the Plaid badge on the back.
Its almost dumb that most of these gas cars even try racing these teslas. All of the power in electric cars goes straight from the batteries to the wheels which makes it pretty difficult for any gas car to beat becauseof all the mechanical parts in a gas car to get the power from engine to wheels.
The tesla plaid is the best for sure for many years to come in every way !!! Very practical slick and superb in performance etc.. Sad to see some many jealous tesla haters out there man!!:(!!

This feels like when you see a huge WWE wrestler dude go against some "average" looking BJJ fighter in MMA. Those tires on the Hellcat are certainly intimidating and the roar of that engine is really impressive.
It's all sound and fury, signifying nothing. Clip clop of horses gave way to sound of gasoline motors, It's now time to realize that "sound" generate from those motors signifies a waste of "energy", and that the next generation is electric. As you can see from the comments... there will be those that will fight for what they've grown comfortable with... just like our parents fought against email and the internet and netflix and youtube ;) It's always fun to have a front seat to change!
This reminds me of an air show I went to. They had a P51D Spitfire next to a 737-800. Ya the Boeing was a faster craft, and it was all but ignored by the fans, but what a crowd around that P51.

Not quite. Highest percentage of American made parts and built in the USA, true. The number of Tesla employees is 127,800, not far removed from GM's total. And apparently UAW-union employees make more than most Tesla employees do.
Max torque at several thousand rpm vs. max torque at zero rpm. Most of this is just physics, and the Tesla is not having to avoid wheel-spin because the nature of electric motors means they are controllable with electronic feedback...

Temperature has minimal if any effect on the power output of an electric motor. It can have an impact on range, which is why we set our Tesla to prewarm the battery in the winter, and to cool the car in the summer, while it is still plugged in. Put good tires on, and our dual motor model 3 will easily crush most if not all street legal vehicles.
Electric cars are less efficient than gas cars, it takes 6 years to become more efficient because it makes what an average gas car does in 6 years in a few months because of the batteries being made, and after 5-6 years the batteries need replaced

Afterwards I felt like I just got in a fight my adrenaline was pumping. Unreal experience
Same thing happened to me when I was a passenger in a P100D in Ludicrous mode. When launching, I had the same blurred vision.
Outrageous.
Tesla's new party trick, once they figured out how to do it. Full power all the way.

@@Tron-Jockey 🥱… Look up the McLaren S. It’s a 9 sec ICE car with a warranty.

Did they really think that Detroit made piece of metal could stand a chance against a Tesla?
Cheated the jump, kept scooting further ahead before the go. Still got absolutely shit on. Love to see it.
Tesla guy was late, Dodge didn't go early
Tesla gave him the jump on the first run.
But guys with muscle cars still claim they are faster than a Plaid… if not faster they “sound” better. 😂
I dont know the specs of the cars but I can guess that teslas weight is way below the others. Still impressive for barbie jeep power
It's prob way heavier. Batteries weigh A LOT.
In a straight line, electric will always win. Throw in some turns, or require them to run at any distance, and internal combustion takes over.
@andrewsherwood6693 our awd model 3 has a low *center* of gravity and corners like it is on rails. Will crush ICE vehicles 0-60, 20-80, you name it. Straight line, or track. All while I enjoy having my tunes cranked 😉
Our range on 90% full charge is over 300 miles. At which point we take a 30 min break and charge up both the car and our stomachs (and visit washroom!)
@@KenLowe65 I'm happy you're proud of your purchase, but it's not true. Weight differences are massive.
I'd love to know what your range is while flat out on a track. Plus the fact that the car has massive overheating problems after only 10-20 minutes of pushing the car on track.
For performance differences at the top end, look at formula 1 vs formula e.
@andrewsherwood6693 appreciate the respectful reply! Doesn't always happen on the web. I spent my career fighting fear, uncertainty, doubt... tough to let go and not engage. Enjoy doing so with open minded thoughtful people.
About 4,800 lbs.
My daughter just bought a new Plaid. I’ll see it for the first time tomorrow. You think she’ll let her daddy drive it? Lol
She finally got a car that will beat her husband’s Porsche 911.
How did you enjoy the drive?
Or did she say "sorry dad, you're too old" hheheheheehe damn kids!!
I'm a gearhead, electric cars should be in their own bracket.
Tired of getting beat?
I'd like to see this race in January in nothern New England or Chicago, where the tempeture is less than ZERO!
Petrol or diesel any day over electric… the sound of the engine makes you feel alive
G forces do it for me. I don't care about the sound.
Apples and oranges. People drive ICE cars for the experience. People drive ev cars for ESG score. 🤣
Steam engines man! Nothing like the old chug a chug!
@@michaelwomack2602agreed
Electric cars are less efficient than gas cars, it takes 6 years to become more efficient because it makes what an average gas car does in 6 years in a few months because of the batteries being made, and after 5-6 years the batteries need replaced
@@WesternEagle467just you keep repeating the same lie doesn't make it magically true. None of what you wrote is true.
I drive performance EV's BECAUSE of the driving experience. Insane instant linear acceleration, the lowest center of gravity available, one pedal driving and actually hearing great music through awesome speakers. Now that's a great driving experience.
